Le Novembre pluvieux est arrivé… Il fait de plus en plus froid, les jours se raccourcissent, le monde est devenu fou et la déprime de l’automne s’installe ? Pas de soucis, on a de quoi s’occuper l’esprit. Comme par exemple… les films de Noël à la télé… je plaisante, évidement. Je parle plutôt de la bonne musique.
Cela fait un petit moment que je ne vous ai pas concocté une playlist avec mes récents coups de cœur. Beaucoup d’excellente musique est sortie ces derniers mois et la liste de concerts auxquels je voudrais assister est de plus un plus longue. Aujourd’hui, voilà une courte sélection : MEGADETH, Ozzy Osbourne, Ayron Jones, Last Temptation, Evanescence, Within Temptation, ROYAL REPUBLIC, KO KO MO, AVATAR, Ghost.
MEGADETH – The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!: Chapter III
Après le grand succès de Dystopia (2016), pour lequel MEGADETH a reçu son premier Grammy Award, l’attente fut assez longue avant de découvrir le prochain album du groupe American. Mais voilà que peu avant la célébration de leur 40eme anniversaire, Dave Mustaine et sa bande est revenu en force avec un nouvel opus : The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead ! sorti le 2 septembre sur Tradecraft / Capitol / Universal Music.
Les malades, les mourants… et les morts, le titre fait peur, je l’avoue, mais il faut comprendre le contexte. Car cet album célèbre la victoire du fontman, Dave Mustaine, dans la bataille contre son cancer de la gorge.
Et cette bataille rageuse on la ressente pleinement à travers ce 16eme album qui ne manque pas d’agressivité et respecte tous les codes Megadeth qui lui ont permis son succès et sa longevité. Le thrash metal rapide et mélodique parfaitement orné des riffs techniques et déchiquetés, des rythmiques imbattables et la voix haineuse et infaillible de Dave Mustaine. Tous ce qu’on aime.
Petit résumé : Démarrant avec le cri lugubre du fossoyeur « Bring out your dead », la chanson titre de l’album développe le thrash galopant typiquement Megadeth.
Life in Hell passe à la vitesse supérieure avec son urgence, son rythme effréné, des grognements explosifs et solos coup de fouet. Ambiance guérilla avec Night Stalkers, un morceau speed et hargneux comme seul Dave Mustaine sait en composer. Excellent interlude acoustique, des solos vertigineux, une batterie incessante, le morceau bénéficie aussi de la participation de Ice-T qui vient renforcer l’impact de cette bombe de presque 7 minutes !
Des voix effrayantes sur le début de Dogs of Chernobyl, rapidement effacés par une intro grandiose. Un morceau super lourd et grinçant qui fait référence au chiens abandonnés de Chernobyl et nous transporte dans ambiance d’aliénation, l’isolation d’une société dystopique et chaotique. Un monologue quasi théâtral en face de guitares écrasantes – fascinant !
Déferlantes des guitares sur Sacrifice, Junkie ou Psychopathy pour arriver à Killing Time qui ralentit légèrement le rythme (en fin juste un petit peu …) mais garde ses riffs grinçants et la colère de Mustaine. Excellent refrain sarcastique et vénéneux qui reclame « Stop Moving your lips, I know that you’re lying, don’t tell me you need me, you’re killing my time… so hatefull ».
Soldier On! est lourdement chargé des riffs frénétiques et des mélodies déchainées et Celebutante est mega rapide et fulgurante couronné d’un solo monstrueux à la fin.
Mission to Mars est une sorte d’épopée sonique et cinématographique, un récit SF assez inattendu : le périple d’un astronaute en route vers Mars. Elle est rapide avec un martèlement impitoyable de batterie et une mélodie accrocheuse tandis que We’ll Be Back est absolument délirant, un morceau évocateur qui clôture frénétiquement ce chef œuvre trash métal.
The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! est un album génial que tout fan de métal doit avoir dans sa collection . Je n’ai pas ecouté Megadeth avec autant de plaisir depuis longtemps.
OZZY OSBOURNE- Patient Number 9 ft. Jeff Beck
The prince of darkness is back. Malgré de nombreux problèmes de santé, le parrain du heavy metal, OZZY OSBOURNE, a sorti le 9 septembre 22, un nouvel album intitulé « Patient Number 9 ».
La liste des illustres invitées sur ce 13 album de sa carrière solo est impressionnante : son ancien acolyte de Black Sabbath – le guitariste Tony Iommi, Mike McCready de Pearl Jam, le bassiste de Metallica, Robert Trujillo, son collaborateur de longue date, Zakk Wylde, le guitariste légendaire, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck et ainsi que le regretté batteur de Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins.
Pour la réalisation des treize titres de ce nouvel opus, Ozzy a retrouvé le producteur Andrew Watt avec qui il avait déjà travaillé sur l’album precedent “Ordinary Man”.
Sa voix légendaire toujours au top de sa forme se pose sur un condensé remarquable de riffs heavy musclés et brulantes. L’énergie est toujours aussi magnétique. Les paroles de l’album évoquent souvent des thèmes comme la mortalité, l’enfer ou la vision sombre de l’avenir.
Ozzy restera toujours Ozzy et comme il le promet sur le morceau, Immortal, « I’ll never die, ‘Cause I’m immortal ( Je ne mourrai jamais / Parce que je suis immortel) »
A noter qu’Ozzy Osbourne s’est également associé à la légende de la bande dessinée Todd McFarlane [Spawn] pour son tout premier roman graphique, et qu’ils présenteront ensemble lors d’une apparition au Comic Con 2022.
AYRON JONES –Filthy
Le chanteur & le guitariste d’exception, AYRON JONES nous avait ébloui avec un concert explosif en novembre 2021 à Paris, au New Morning. C’était son tout premier concert en France (et en Europe).
Suivi en juin 2022 d’une tournée française couronnée de succès, des participations à Solidays, au Hellfest et au festival de Nîmes, et une 1ère partie des Rolling Stones à Longchamp le 23 juillet 2022.
AYRON JONES sera de retour dans l’hexagone au mois de novembre pour 11 concerts supplémentaires !
C’est LAST TEMPTATION qui assurera la première de cette tournée, groupe au sein duquel on retrouve l’ex-Trust, Farid Medjane, à la batterie.LAST TEMPTATION propose un son hard rock des années 80 imprégné de riffs et fusionné avec les meilleurs éléments de métal traditionnel.
Il y a quelques semaines le charismatique guitariste/chanteur originaire de Seattle a présenté “Filthy”, une toute nouvelle chanson inédite. “Là d’où je viens, le mot “Filthy” (sale) est utilisé comme le plus grand des compliments. Cela signifie que ça devrait être considéré comme un péché d’être aussi bon dans ce que l’on fait. C’est ce que j’avais en tête lorsque j’ai commencé à travailler sur cette chanson. Je voulais célébrer la contre-culture et promouvoir la fierté de ce que signifie être considéré comme ‘différent’.”
Ayron a co-signé cette chanson avec Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, The Struts) et Scott Stevens (Shinedown, Halestorm)

Within Temptation & Evanescence
Le 27 Novembre 2022 à Accor Arena, Paris, Within Temptation & Evanescence deux groupe de métal mélodique vont se produire dans le cadre du Worlds Collide Tour. Une soirée qui s’annonce exceptionnelle. Tournée plusieurs fois reportée à cause de la pandémie, on aura en fin l’occasion d’écouter deux de plus grandes voix féminines du métal : Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation) et Amy Lee (Evanescence).
Groupe phare du métal symphonique depuis 25 ans, le groupe néerlandais, WITHIN TEMPTATION, a sorti 7 albums – Enter [1997], Mother Earth [2000], The Silent Force [2004], The Heart of Everything [2007], The Unforgiving [2011], Hydra [2014] et RESIST [2019] : tous représentant plus de 4 millions de ventes de disques à leur actif.

ROYAL REPUBLIC – Diggin’ It
Depuis leur passage explosif en 2016 au festival Rock en Seine ROYAL REPUBLIC ne cessent de rencontrer un succès croissant en France où ils enchaînent les concerts archi-complets à Paris et en Province !
Si nous n’avais pas encore entendu parler d’eux, je vous invite de faire connaissance de toute urgence ici avec les 4 suédois délirants et séducteurs et leur disco funky Rock N’Roll exubérant garni d’humour qui débordent de refrains entrainâtes et de riffs incisifs.
Dans quelques jours, ils démarrent une nouvelle tournée de 5 dates dans l’Hexagone, avant de revenir en janvier 2023 pour un show à Paris, à l’Olympia !
Pour cette tournée française et européenne les suédois ont choisi d’inviter KO KO MO en 1ère partie, le duo français explosif formé par Warren (guitare – chant) et Kevin « K20 » (batterie – chœurs) qui conjuguent avec aisance le meilleur du rock de 70’s, du blues, des riffs frénétiques et des éléments électro et pop très actuelles.
Autant dire que ce périple s’annonce plus que sympathique…
ROYAL REPUBLIC & KO KO MO seront aussi à l’affiche de Taratata le 4 Novembre. Ce soir-là le groupe de Göteborg interprétera son single “Diggin’ It” actuellement dispo sur toutes les plateformes et en playlist.

Avatar a été pour le moins actif durant l’été dernier. Après avoir parcouru l’Amérique du Nord pour une tournée en tête d’affiche, ils se sont ensuite lancés dans quelques-uns des plus grands concerts de leur carrière, dont un voyage en première partie d’Iron Maiden dans des stades au Brésil et des prestations dans des festivals comme le Summer Breeze en Allemagne, Bloodstock en Angleterre et, bien sûr, le Hellfest, en France, où ils ont partagé la même scène que Metallica.

GHOST- Spillways
GHOST est indiscutablement LE groupe dont l’ascension fulgurante ne laisse aucun doute. Leurs chansons accrocheuses comme “Rats”, “Square Hammer” Dance Macabre sont mélange festif et passionnant de pop et de rock- métal mélodique qui ont attirés les faveurs d’un public de plus en plus large.
Le dernier album Impera a été largement salues par l’ensemble des médias spécialisés ou non. Le groupe vient d’ailleurs de lancer un nouveau single extrait de ce disque, l’irrésistible Spillways.
La scène est l’autre domaine où GHOST excelle. Proposant des shows sombrement extravagants et parfaitement orchestrés, le groupe ne compte plus les concerts complets dans l’hexagone ont laissé des traces indélébiles dans la mémoire des fans. En mai 2019, Metallica les avait même spécialement invités sur son concert au Stade de France. En 2022, après avoir fait salle comble à l’Accor Arena de Paris, on les a retrouvés parmi les têtes du Hellfest.

Rainy November has arrived… It is getting colder; the days are getting shorter; the world is getting crazy and the autumn anxiety is growing up? No worries, we have something to take care of and keep your mind busy. Like for example… Christmas movies on TV… I’m kidding, of course. I am talking about good music.
It’s been a while since I did not put together a playlist of my recent favourite releases. A lot of great music was realased these last months and the list of must see concerts become longer and longer. A short overview!: MEGADETH, Ozzy Osbourne, Ayron Jones, Last Temptation, Evanescence, Within Temptation, ROYAL REPUBLIC, KO KO MO, AVATAR, Ghost.
MEGADETH – The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!
After the great success of Dystopia (2016), for which MEGADETH received its first Grammy Award, the wait was quite long before discovering the next album of the American trash metal band. Just before the celebration of their 40th anniversary, Dave Mustaine and Co came back in force with a new record: The Sick, The Dying … And The Dead! released on September 2 on Tradecraft / Capitol / Universal Music.
The sick, the dying… And the dead, the album title is quite scary, I admit, but you have to understand the context. Because this album celebrates the victory of the fontman, Dave Mustaine, in the battle against his throat cancer.
And this fiery battle is fully felt through this 16th album which does not lack aggressiveness and respects all the Megadeth codes that allowed it its success and longevity. Fast, melodic thrash metal perfectly adorned with technical and jagged riffs, unbeatable rhythms and Dave Mustaine’s hateful and infallible voice. Everything we love.
Beginning with the gravedigger’s gloomy cry “Bring out your dead”, the album’s title track develops quickly the galloping thrash typically Megadeth.
Life in Hell speed up the things with its urgency, fast-paced pace, explosive growls and whiplash solos. Guerrilla atmosphere on Night Stalkers, a fast and snarling song as only Dave Mustaine knows how to compose. Excellent acoustic interlude, vertiginous solos, incessant drums, the song also benefits of the participation of Ice-T who reinforces the impact of this bomb of almost 7 minutes!
Scary voices on the beginning of Dogs of Chernobyl, quickly erased by a grandiose intro. A super heavy and squeaky track that refers to the abandoned dogs of Chernobyl and transports us into an atmosphere of alienation, the isolation of a dystopian and chaotic society. An almost theatrical monologue in front of overwhelming guitars – fascinating!
Surging guitars on Sacrifice, Junkie or Psychopathy to arrive at Killing Time which slows down the rhythm slightly (well, just a little …) but keeps its raw riffs and the Mustaine’s anger. Excellent sarcastic and poisonous chorus that claims “Stop Moving your lips, I know that you’re lying, don’t tell me you need me, you’re killing my time… so hateful”.
Soldier On! is heavily loaded with frenetic riffs and wild melodies and Celebutante is mega fast and dazzling crowned with a monstrous solo at the end. Mission to Mars is a kind of sonic and cinematic epic, a rather unexpected SF story: the journey of an astronaut on his way to Mars. It is fast with a ruthless pounding of drums and a catchy melody while We’ll Be Back is absolutely delirious, an evocative track that frantically closes this trash metal masterpiece.
The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! is a great album that every metal fan must have in their collection. I haven’t listened to Megadeth with so much pleasure in a long time.
OZZY OSBOURNE- Patient Number 9 ft. Jeff Beck
The prince of darkness is back. Despite lot of health problems, the godfather of heavy metal, OZZY OSBOURNE, released on September 9, 22, a new album entitled Patient Number 9. The list of famous guests on this 13th album of his solo career is impressive: his former Black Sabbath bandmate – guitarist Tony Iommi, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Metallica’s bass player Robert Trujillo, long-time collaborator Zakk Wylde, legendary guitarist Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and the late Foo Fighters’ drummer, Taylor Hawkins.
For the realization of the thirteen tracks of this new record, Ozzy collaborated with the producer Andrew Watt with whom he had already worked on the previous album “Ordinary Man”.
His legendary voice always at the top of his form lands on a remarkable condensation of muscular and burning heavy riffs. The energy is still magnetic. The album’s lyrics often evoke themes such as mortality, hell or the dark vision of the future.

Note that Ozzy Osbourne has also teamed up with comic book legend Todd McFarlane [Spawn] for his very first graphic novel, and that they will present together during an appearance at Comic Con 2022.
AYRON JONES – Filthy The exceptional singer & guitarist, AYRON JONES amazed us with an explosive concert in November 2021 in Paris, at the New Morning. It was his very first concert in France (and Europe). Followed in June 2022 by a successful French tour, participations in Solidays, Hellfest and the Nîmes festival, and a 1st part of the Rolling Stones in Longchamp on July 23, 2022.
AYRON JONES will be back in France in November for 11 more concerts! LAST TEMPTATION will open on this tour, a band in which we find the ex-Trust, Farid Medjane, on drums. LAST TEMPTATION offers an 80s hard rock sound infused with energetic riffs and fused with the best elements of traditional metal.

ROYAL REPUBLIC – Diggin’ It
Since their explosive performance in 2016 at the Rock En Seine festival, ROYAL REPUBLIC continue to meet a growing success in France where they played lot of sold-out gigs in Paris and all over France. If we haven’t heard of them yet, I invite you to meet here the 4 delirious and seductive Swedes and their funky disco Rock N’Roll exuberant filled with humor that overflow with catchy choruses and incisive riffs.
In a few days, they start a new tour of 5 dates in France, before returning in January 2023 for a show in Paris, at the Olympia!
For this French and European tour the Swedes have chosen to invite as guest, KO KO MO, the explosive French duo formed by Warren (guitar – vocals) and Kevin “K20” (drums – backing vocals), the perfect mix of 70’s rock, blues, frenetic riffs and actual electro and pop elements.Needless to say that this tour promises to be more than nice …

For sure, GHOST is THE BAND whose meteoric rise leaves no doubt. Their catchy songs like “Rats”, “Square Hammer, Dance Macabre or Call Me little Sunshine are a festive and exciting mix of pop and melodic rock-metal that have attracted the favours of an increasingly wide audience.
The last album Impera was widely hailed by all the specialized media.The band has just released a new single from this record, the irresistible Spillways. Offering darkly extravagant and perfectly orchestrated shows, the group no longer counts the sold-out concerts in France that have left indelible traces in the memory of fans. In May 2019, Metallica even invited them to its concert at the Stade de France. In 2022, after a full house at the Accor Arena in Paris, they were found among the headliners of Hellfest.
So, good news: Papa Emeritus IV and his Ghouls – will be back to France next year (tickets on sale here)
