Déferlante de riffs, bonne humeur et joyeux pas de danse, on n’attendait pas moins de 4 suédois de ROYAL REPUBLIC et leur punk disco déluré, le mardi 10 décembre à l’Elysée Montmartre.
Après trois albums – We Are Royal (2010), Save the Nation (2012) et Weekend Man (2016) – Jonas Almen (basse), Par Andreasson (batterie), Hannes Irengard (guitare), Adam Grahn (guitare et chant) nous invitaient cette fois à découvrir Club Majesty, leur excellent album sorti en mai dernier. Pas étonnant que le concert parisien affichait complet.
En ouverture, le groupe allemand BLACKOUT PROBLEMS fait le maximum pour mettre de l’ambiance et chauffer le public. Et ce dernier est conquis par le rock alternatif avec des influences électro, plein d’énergie et de peps. Le Frontman Mario Radetzky est déchainé Il profite pour annoncer (en français) qu’ils seront de retour en février pour un concert en tête d’affiche.
Les garçons de ROYAL REPUBLIC débarquent sur scène habillés en costumes avec des vestes colorés et pailletés, nœuds papillon et colliers de perles. Que la fête commence ! Fireman & Dancer et Can’t Fight The Disco démarre le marathon dancing qui sera servi au menu ce soir. La fosse réagit rapidement et toute la salle devient une immense piste de danse.
Comme maître de cérémonie le chanteur – guitariste charismatique Adam Grahn, crooner moustachu, un peu fanfaron rétro qui saute, se tortille et chauffe la foule sans effort. Jonas et Hannes délirants et séducteurs, l’accompagne dans son show.
Des morceaux accrocheurs et ultra dansants se déroulent sous les yeux éblouis des fans, de plus un plus chauds. Le drôle Underwear et le très énervé Full Steam Spacemachine suivis par le très groovie et sexy, Like A Lover qui change et calme un peu l’ambiance.
Interlude sympathique avec Jonas qui sort son keytar pour un bref extrait de Jump (Van Halen) et The Final Countdown (EUROPE – petit clin d’œil à leur compatriotes suédois ?). Vers la fin du concert le même Jonas nous interprétera une variante divertissante quasi disco de Ace Of Spades (Motorhead).
Les punky et rapides Stop Movin’ et Boomerang montent la température encore mais le point culminant arrive avec Walk ! et Tommy Gun, décidemment les favoris de public qui chante les refrains avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme.
Quoi d’autre ? L’excellent solo de batterie de Par, qui excelle derrière se futs, même sans utiliser les pieds et qu’Adam va même l’aider avec brio. Et une chanceuse fan sera invitée sur scène pour jouer à la guitare, danser et boire du champagne.
L’excellent Anna-Leigh et sa mélodie 80’s annonce la fin mais Adam nous rassure que de toute façon ils vont revenir. American Dream, When I See You Dance with Another, Flower Power Madness et Baby – un bombastic final pour cette Fièvre du Mardi Soir.
Mélange de rock, disco et punk, des chansons électrisantes et une brillante présence scénique les incroyables ROYAL REPUBLIC, frappent fort avec un concert mémorable ou il fallait vraiment chausser ses dancing shoes. Un final encore plus grandiose car ils prennent leur temps pour saluer le public et continuer à se déhancher sur Lonley Boy de Black Keys. Ils vont quitter la scène en pas de danse et avec grands sourires.
En espace d’une soirée, l’Elysée Montmartre s’est transformée en Club Majesty avec de la bonne musique, des chorégraphies, un superbe éclairage et beaucoup des rires. Un régal !

ROYAL REPUBLIC smashing it at Elysée Montmartre, Paris – 10.12.2019
Fantastic riffs, good humour and great dancing steps, we did not expect less from the 4-pieces Swedish band ROYAL REPUBLIC and their delirious disco punk on Tuesday, December 10th at the Elysée Montmartre, Paris.
After three albums – We Are Royal (2010), Save the Nation (2012) and Weekend Man (2016) – Jonas Almen (bass), Par Andreasson (drums), Hannes Irengard (guitar), Adam Grahn (guitar and vocals) invited us this time to discover Club Majesty, their excellent album released last May. And the Paris concert was sold out.
As opening band, the German band BLACKOUT PROBLEMS does everything possible to set the mood and warm the audience. And the audience love the alternative rock with some electro influences full of energy and enthusiasm. Frontman Mario Radetzky totally crazy and he speaks French. He took the opportunity to announce that they will be back in February for a headline concert.
ROYAL REPUBLIC take the stage wearing elegant colourful and sequined jackets, bow ties and pearl necklaces. Let the party begin! Fireman – Dancer and Can’t Fight The Disco kick off the dancing marathon that will be on the menu tonight. The pit reacts quickly and the whole room becomes a huge dance floor.
As master of ceremonies the singer – charismatic guitarist Adam Grahn, the crooner with moustache, a little retro swagger who jumps, squirms and warms the crowd effortlessly. Jonas and Hannes, delirious and seductive, accompany him on his show. Catchy and ultra-dancing songs, the funny Underwear and the heavy nervous Full Steam Spacemachine followed by the very groovie and sexy, Like A Lover.
Great interlude with Jonas who perform at his keytar a brief excerpt of Jump (Van Halen) and of The Final Countdown (EUROPE – a little nod to their Swedish compatriots?). Towards the end of the concert, the same Jonas will perform an entertaining almost disco variant of Ace Of Spades (Motorhead).
The punky and fast paced Stop Movin’ and Boomerang raise the temperature again but the hottest comes with Walk! and Tommy Gun, definitely the audience’s favourites who sing along the choruses with great enthusiasm. What else? The excellent drum solo of Par, who excels behind his kits drum even without using the feet. Adam will even help him brilliantly. And a lucky fan invited on stage to play guitar, dance and drink champagne.
The excellent Anna-Leigh and its 80’s melody announces the end of the show but Adam tell us not to worry as they will come back anyway. American Dream, When I See You Dance with Another, Flower Power Madness and Baby – a bombastic end of this Tuesday Night’s Fever.
Mix of rock, disco and punk, electrifying songs and a brilliant stage presence, the incredible ROYAL REPUBLIC hits hard with a memorable concert where you really had to wear your dancing shoes. At the end they will take their time to greet the audience, continue to dance on Lonley Boy of Black Keys and finally leave the stage with dance steps and big smiles.
For an evening, the Elysée Montmartre was transformed into a real Club Majesty with fantastic music, choreography, superb lighting and lots of laughs. Fabulous!
