La journée du 5 décembre s’annonçait mouvementée de coté de Paris. Grèves dans les de transports, manifestations, on se faisait donc plein de soucis pour le concert de TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN au Nouveau Casino.
La tournée française de 4 rockers de Nashville avait débuté le 2 décembre et comptait par moins de 5 dates en France : Marseille, Lyon, Belfort, Paris et Lille avec presque tous les dates affichant Sold Out.
Après quelques d’embouteillages et une bonne marche à pied, on arrive enfin à la salle qui est déjà pleine à craquer. Cool ! Le rock a donc vaincu les grevés et les fans ont pu de venir. Heureusement pour eux mais aussi pour le groupe car ça aurait été bien dommage de jouer devant une salle vide.
Trop tard pour découvrir le premier groupe de la soirée, Son of Fortune qui avait déjà terminé son set. C’est le tour de GRIT de faire leur apparition sur la scène en pagaille avec des instruments, des panneaux, des câbles, des pédales éparpillés un peu partout. Mais pas beaucoup de chance pour le groupe pop rock parisien de faire ses preuves car rapidement, ils rencontrent un problème technique avec la guitare. Malgré les efforts du chanteur et de la section rythmique basse – batterie, le show ne passe pas. Le chanteur essaie de chauffer le public qui les encouragent, mais Il manque vraiment quelque chose dans leur sound pour accrocher. Dommage !
Une vingtaine de minutes plus tard TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN arrivent dans une salve de gros riffs endiables et avec des grands sourires. Drive Me Mad et On To The Next extraits de leur nouvel Album Truth and Lies sorti en Juin Dernier seront les 2 premières morceaux qui mettent immédiatement l’empreinte accrocheuse et infernale du show qui nous attend.
Tyler Bryant porte une joli veste longue rayé, un slim déchiré et un haut léopard. Ses riffs sont tous simplement ensorcelants et exécutes avec une facilité déconcertante. Impressionnante capacité de jeu tout en bougeant non-stop à travers la scène ou en se jetant à genoux. Il est incapable de rester immobile, une pile électrique alimenté par ses riffs de guitares. Pareil pour son acolyte batteur, Caleb Crosby qui derrière ses futs debout ou assis, tape frénétiquement avec ses baquettes ou avec ses mains et n’arrête pas de monter, descendre et chauffer le public. Il s’avancera plusieurs fois devant la scène avec une de ses caisses pour mettre encore plus d’ambiance.
Ce soir c’est la priorité au nouvel album car sept chansons sont au programme. En plus, il y aura des morceaux extrais d’EP ou de leur premier album éponyme : on écoutera House On Fire, l’excellent Mojo Workin, Aftershock, Weak and Weepin’. On remarque qu’ils choisissent plutôt des morceaux hyper énergiques plus hard. Il y aura bien sûr des morceaux plus slow et blues comme The Wayside et Out There qui nous permettent d’apprécier encore plus la voix vibrante et viscérale de Tyler mais j‘avoue j’aurais aimé écouter plus de morceaux dans ce registre. Comme Devil’s Keep, “Shape I’m In” ou Into the black.
Guitariste de génie, Tyler changera plusieurs fois ses guitares. On reconnaitra la Pinky Strat (sa préférée, une guitare rose tout usé), un Resonator et mais aussi une Strat qui a appartenu Jimmy Hendrix et qui lui a été prêtée pour la soirée. Avec l’autre guitariste du groupe, Graham Whitford, ils se complètent merveilleusement bien en se livrant à plusieurs beaux solos au long de la soirée. Excellent à la basse, Noah Denney est le plus calme du combo et il envoie ses riffs pulsés avec maestria.
Tyler parle pratiquement entre chaque chanson soit pour exprimer son plaisir de jouer de nouveau à Paris soit pour remercier l’audience qui a fait de tant efforts pour venir les voir mais aussi aux media français qui les ont soutenus. Récemment, ils ont atteint le Top 40 en France (OUI FM).
Le rythme s’accélère, le son excellent nous emporte (on ne peut pas dire la même chose pour les lumières). Parfaite alchimie entre les quatre musiciens, sourires aux lèvres, ils enchaînent les tubes électrisants. Ils sont vraiment très à l’aise sur scène. L’expérience de tournées dit son mot.
La température monte de plus en plus dans la salle, voir un peu trop, car Noah sera obligé de remettre un peu l’ordre dans un groupe un peu trop excité qui gêne tout le monde. Il faut savoir que le Nouveau Casino est assez petit et ne se prête pas vraiment au pogo.
Tyler annonce Couldn’t See The Fire comme sa chanson préférée à jouer en live qui sera suivi par une flamboyante Lipstick Wonder Woman. Petit rappel aveclabluesy Ramblin’ Bones qui clôture le show sur un jamming ardent.
Comme à leur habitude, quelques minutes après la fin, Tyler Bryant, Caleb Crosby, Graham Whitford et Noah Denney, fatigués mais souriants reviendrons dans la salle faire de accolades, des selfies, signer des autographes, serrer des mains et remercier tout le monde d’être venu pour les voir.
Un show éblouissant et immersive, parfait du début jusqu’à la fin. Du blues rock du plus haut niveau joué avec beaucoup de talent, passion et générosité. Et bien sûr des applaudissements pour le public qui a affronté avec bravoure les grèves et le froid.
Qui pourra encore dire que le Rock N’ Roll is dead après avoir vu TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN sur scène ? Personne! Je vous lejure !!!

ROCK N’ ROLL RULES in Paris with TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN – Concert Review – 05.12.2019
December 5th, 2019 was expected to be a day with lot of problems in Paris. Strikes in public transport, street demonstrations, so we were worried about the concert of TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN at the New Casino.
The French tour of the 4 rockers of Nashville had started on December 2nd and included not less than 5 dates in France: Marseille, Lyon, Belfort, Paris and Lille almost all sold out venues. After some unavoidable traffic jams and a long walk, we finally arrive at the venue which is already overpacked. Cool! So, rock beats the strike. Excellent news for the fans but also for the band because it would have been sad to play in front of an empty room.
Arrived too late to discover the first band of the evening, Son of Fortune who had already finished its set, it’s now GRIT‘s turn to make their appearance on the stage and start their show in front of the impatient audience. But no chance for the Parisian pop rock band to prove themselves in front of home town audience because quickly, they encounter a technical problem with the guitar. Despite the efforts of the singer and the rhythm section bass-drums, the show does not catch the attention. The singer tries to warm up the audience who encourage them, but something is missing to their sound. Pity!
Around 20 minutes later TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN arrives with devilish riffs and big smiles. Drive Me Mad and On To The Next, both out of their new album Truth and Lies released last June, will be the first 2 tracks that immediately input the catchy and insane print to the whole show.
Tyler Bryant wears a pretty long striped jacket, a ripped slim and a leopard top. His riffs are all simply bewitching and performing with disconcerting ease. Impressive ability to play while moving non-stop through the stage or throwing himself to his knees. He is unable to stand still, an electric battery powered by his guitar riffs. The same goes for his drummer acolyte, Caleb Crosby, who behind his drums standing or sitting, bangs frantically with his sticks or with his hands and keep warming the audience. He will go several times in front of the stage with one of his snares.
Tonight, it is the priority to the new album because seven songs are on the program. In addition, there will be songs from their EP or their self-titled debut album: we will listen to House On Fire, the excellent Mojo Workin, Aftershock, Weak and Weepin’. We notice that they choose rather hyper energetic hard rock songs. There will be also some slower and blues songs like The Wayside and Out There that allow us to appreciate even more the Tyler‘s vibrant and visceral voice but I admit I would have liked to listen to more songs in this register like Devil’s Keep, Shape I’m In or Into the black.
Guitar genius, Tyler changed the guitars several times. We will recognize the Pinky Strat (his favourite, a pink guitar all worn out), a Resonator and also a Strat that belonged Jimmy Hendrix and that was loaned to him for the evening. Together with the band’s other guitarist, Graham Whitford, they complement each other wonderfully and will perform several beautiful solos throughout the evening. Excellent on bass, Noah Denney is the quietest of the combo and he sends his pulsed riffs with mastery.
Tyler speaks practically between each song either to express his pleasure to play again in Paris or to thank the audience who made so much effort to come and see them but also to thank the French media who supported them. Recently, they reached the Top 40 in France (OUI FM).
The rhythm accelerates, the excellent sound takes us away (we cannot say the same for the lights). Perfect alchemy between the four musicians, they perform together the electrifying tubes. They are really very comfortable on stage. The touring experience says its word.
The temperature rises more and more in the room, a little too much maybe, because Noah will be forced to put some order in a group a little bit too excited that annoys everyone. You should know that the Nouveau Casino venue is quite small and pogo is really a bad idea.
Tyler announces Couldn’t See The Fire as his favourite song to play live which will be followed by a flamboyant Lipstick Wonder Woman. The bluesy Ramblin’ Bones will close the show on an incendiary jamming.
As usual, a few minutes after the end, Tyler Bryant, Caleb Crosby, Graham Whitford and Noah Denney, tired but smiling, will come back to the room to shake hands, do some hugs, take selfies, sign autographs, chat with fans and thank everyone for coming to see them.
A dazzling and immersive show, perfect from start to finish. Blues rock at the highest level performed with great talent, passion and generosity. And of course, big applause for the audience who bravely faced the strikes and the cold weather.
Who can say that the Rock N’ Roll is dead after seeing TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN live on stage? No one! I swear!!!
