Manus X Machina – Fashion And Technology at MET, New York

Fashion and technology are totally connected.

The amazing exibition Manus x Machina presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York explains this very well.

Through 170 awesome pieces of haute couture and ready to wear, the exibition is reconciling the hand made with machine made long time opposite.

The technologies evolved , step by step they were integrated in the work of the greatest designers in the world.  3D printers, laser cutting, ultrasonic welding, computer modeling took up easily alongside the traditional hand made work.

The haute couture or ready to wear creations are more and more sophisticated, high tech. There is no more frontier between two of them, the distinction is blurred, they borrow technics one from each other. The future is in Fashion.

The display covers all fashion métiers : pleating, lacework, leatherwork, embroideries with gems, feathers, pearls or flowers…remarkable art pieces hand made, made with innovating  technologies or both.

We do not have so many opportunities to approach and admire such fabulous gowns, so it was an excellent occasion to spent some good fascinating hours between the 2 levels of this beautiful exibition.

La Mode et la technologie sont étroitement liées. La magnifique exposition Manus X Machina présentée au Metropolitan Museum of Art  à New York explique cela très bien .

A travers 170 superbes pièces de haute couture et pret à porter, l’exposition réconcilie le fait main avec le fait machine qui autre fois se retrouvaient en opposition.

Les technologies ont  beaucoup évolués, petit à petit, elles ont été intégrés dans le travail de grands créateurs. Les imprimantes 3D, la découpe au laser, la couture aux ultra son ou la modélisation informatique ont pris place aisément à côté du travail traditionnel fait main. 

Les créations prêt à porter ou haute couture sont de plus en plus sophistiqués, high tech. Il n’y a plus de frontières entre les deux, la distinction s’efface. Le future est dans la mode.

L’exposition regroupe tous les métiers de la mode : le plissé, la dantele, le travail du cuir, la broderie avec des sequins, pierres ou plumes, des fleurs… de pièces représentatives fait main, avec des technologies innovantes ou mixtes. 

Nous n’avons pas souvent l’opportunité d’approcher et d’admirer des vêtements aussi fabuleux et donc, c’était une excellente ocassion pour moi de passer quelques bonnes heures totalement fascinantes dans les deux niveaux de cette belle exposition.

Voilà quelques tenues remarquables, quelques unes iront très bien dans  ma garderobe…
