One month to go till the release of Anything But Words, the debut album of Banks & Steelz, the pretty unlikely rap – rock duo formed by RZA from Wu-Tang Clan and Paul Banks from Interpol.
So time for a short preview of this huge collaboration, especially that the second video for Giant was put on line yesterday and it is a total gem.
This crossroad of two imense talents looks to me as one of the most interesting musical dialogue of 2016.
The furious RZA rapping and superb powerful beats interfere with the calm, haunting and majestic Paul Banks’s voice. The rhythm is mad, melodic and unsustained.This project is elegantly frantic.
Other famous names like Florence Welsh, Kool Keith, GhostFace Killah, Method Man, Masta Killa are part of this adventure.
Already 3 songs revealed, 3 smashing clash in our ears, just to make us kindly wait till end of August: Love and War, Giant, Speedway Sonora are accompagnied by 2 videos, beautifully directed.
While the first video for Love and War is a tribute to Reservoir Dogs, the Tarantino’s movie, with a yakuza torture scene that finally ends up in an unexpected dancing party
the second one for Giant is a visual arty aesthetic piece very Brooklyn style.
It starts in a delapidated room, old walls, a walk arround in a empty abandoned building where some gracious break dancers perform, and it turns into a spectacular double Manhattan sky line view in a cool sunset light. The city of the future hanging from the sky, image that reminds me the Nolan’s Inception amazing filming. JUST WOW !!!
Paul and RZA, both in love with music and cinema, the confluence of two rich musical universes… we only can expect a high quality inteligent sound and visual fabulous stories.

Encore un mois attente pour le premier album- Anything But Words– du unprobable duo rap rock BANKS & STEELZ formé par RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) et Paul Banks (Interpol).
A l’occasion de la sortie hier, du deuxième video clip pour Giant, un vrai bijou, voila une petite avant-première de cette collaboration énorme.
Cette rencontre de deux artistes d’un imense talent me paraît un de plus intéressants dialogues musicaux de cette année.
La rap enragé et les superbes puissants beats de RZA interfèrent avec la voix calme, majestueuse, envoûtante de Paul Banks. Le rythme est fou. La collaboration s’annonce d’une élégance frénétique.
D’autres artists comme Florence Welsh, Kool Keith, GhostFace Killah, Method Man, Masta Killa font partie de l’aventure.
3 morceaux ont déjà été dévoilées, 3 grosses claques dans nos oreilles, l’histoire de nous faire pacienter gentillment jusqu’à la fin août : Love and War,Giant, Speedway Sonora accompagnées par 2 magnifiques videos.
Tandis que la première vidéo pour Love and War est un hommage au Reservoir Dogs, le film de Tarantino, avec un scène de torture dans le clan de yakuza et qui se termine dans une dance party totalement inattendu, la deuxième vidéo pour Giant, dévoilée hier est très esthétique Brooklyn.
Ça commence dans une chambre délabrée, des vieux murs, un immeuble abandonné, où de temps en temps on retrouve des gracieux breakdancers et se termine avec la vue spectaculaire d’un Manhattan dédoublé, en haut et en bas, filmé dans la lumière idilique du couché de soleil. Certainement, une ville du future qui me rappelle les belles images d’Inception de Christopher Nolan. JUSTE WOW !!!
Paul Banks et RZA, deux artistes amoureux de musique et du cinema, la confluence de deux riches univers musicaux… nous pouvons seulement s’attendre à un son inteligent, d’une grande qualité et à des histoires visuels fabuleuses.
J’attends la suite avec impatience.
