SAINT AGNES – Animal

Le concert de SAINT AGNES à Paris, les Etoiles s’approche à grands pas. Une bonne occasion de vous reparler de mon l’énorme coup de foudre pour ce groupe anglais originaire de l’est de Londres. Formé par Kitty Arabella Austen (chant, basse, guitare, claviers), Andy Head (batterie) et Jon Tufnell (guitare, basse) le trio a sorti en 2023, Bloodsuckers, unbrillant deuxième album qui a figuré dans notre liste de meilleurs albums de l’année.

Enragé, explosif, sombre, sincère et totalement engagé, le punk metal rock féroce du gang anglais est terriblement obsédant et accrocheur.

ARCHITECTS – Seeing Red

J’ai découvert ARCHITECTS l’année dernière en première partie de METALLICA au Stade de France. La tournée2023 faisant suite à la sortie de leur dixième album The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit a littéralement propulsé le groupe dans sa conquête du monde avec des nombreuse concerts donnés à guichets fermés.

Le groupe britannique de metal core formé par Dan Searle (batterie), Sam Carter (Chant), Alex Dean (guitare basse) & Adam Christianson (guitare) entamera sa prochaine tournée européenne le 24 janvier prochain, à Paris, au Zénith.

Ecoutez leur nouveau single Seeing Red, un morceaux brut et agressif couronné d’un refrain mélodique et accrocheur et venez les voir en concert.

URNE – Becoming the Ocean

Découvrez URNE, le trio de stoner/sludge/metalcore londonien qui a sorti en août dernier son deuxième album, A Feast On Sorrow sur via Candlelight Records / Spinefarm (distribution PIAS).

Un album sombre, puissant et chargée d’émotion produit par Joe Duplantier, le leader de Gojira, qui ayant apprécié “Serpent & Spirit”, le 1er album d’Urne sortie en 2021, les a contactés directement afin d’offrir aux trois anglais l’opportunité d’enregistrer ce nouvel opus avec lui dans son studio Silver Cord à Brooklyn.

Pouvoir se rendre à New York pour travailler avec Joe Duplantier et Johann Meyer est quelque chose que le groupe n’avait jamais osé envisager.

A Feast On Sorrow est extrêmement personnel pour Joe Nally, le leader d’Urne :”Il m’a fait grandir en tant que personne et m’a aidé à mieux comprendre le processus de deuil. Ce n’est pas un album joyeux ou édifiant, il est très brut et réel. Lorsque l’opportunité de travailler avec Joe s’est présentée, nous savions tous qu’il était la personne idéale pour capturer le message que nous souhaitions porter”

On aura l’occasion de voir le groupe britannique en concert en France au mois de mars en 1ère partie d’AVATAR ! Jusqu’à là écoutez cet excellent album.

THERAPHOSA – LUST

Les 3 français de Theraphosa ouvrent les portes de l’Enfer avec leur second album Inferno qui sortira le 2 février 2024.

Inspiré par la célèbre “La Divina Commedia” écrites par Dante Alighieri au début du XIVe siècle, le groupe plonge profondément dans le cœur des hommes et explore les plus sombres aspects de l’humanité.

Rampant au travers des neuf cercles de l’Enfer, le trio nous invite à être témoin de l’essence de tous les péchés et à nous interroger sur nous-même.

Greed, Lust, Gluttony, Violence des compositions avant-gardistes, des mélodies envoûtantes et des refrains accrocheurs, Theraphosa nous tient en haleine jusqu’à la fin et apporte à ce voyage dans le monde souterrain, une véritable dimension cinématographique.

L’aura religieuse du triumvirat Parisien mélangée à une image inspirée de la Haute-Couture catalyse la mystérieuse, froide et frappante atmosphère qui émane du groupe. A suivre.

No Money Kids – Motel Way of Life

Avec leur nouveau single/video, Motel Way of Life, le duo français No Money Kids, nous invite à danser sur des rythmiques blues rock abrasif mêles à des touches électro endiables. Sortez les boules à facette été les dancing shoes.

Un morceau qui donne envie de sortir de sa zone de confort et traverser le désert à vive allure.

BRUCE DICKINSON – Afterglow of Ragnarok

Le Nouvel album solo de Bruce Dickinsons, THE MANDRAKE PROJECT, sortira le 1er mars 2024 sur BMG.

Afterglow of Ragnarok, le premier single, est accompagné d’une vidéo spectaculaire qui a été présentée devant une salle comble, le jour de l’inauguration du CCXP23, l’énorme Comic-Con brésilien qui s’est déroulé en décembre dernier à Sao Paulo.

A cette occasion le chanteur a présenté en avant-première ce remarquable mini-film, révélant au passage d’autres détails sur l’album et la série de bandes dessinées qui va l’accompagner.

Voilà ce qu’on sait :

Conçu en partenariat avec Z2, ce “comic book” comprendra 2000 “CCXP-exclusive versions” pour le plus grand plaisir de la communauté internationale des amateurs de ce type d’ouvrage.

À travers dix titres d’une richesse captivante, Bruce Dickinson et son co-auteur/producteur de longue date, Roy Z, ont créé une œuvre qui va définitivement marquer l’année 2024.

Heavy à souhait et dotées de somptueuses textures musicales, ces compositions permettent à Dickinson de donner vie à une vision artistique longuement mûrie, et de délivrer ainsi certaines des meilleures performances vocales de sa carrière.

Pour l’enregistrement, réalisé en grande partie au Doom Room de Los Angeles, Bruce et Roy, qui assure à la fois le poste de guitariste et de bassiste,  se sont adjoints les services du Maestro des claviers Mistheria et du batteur Dave Moreno, tous deux déjà présents en 2005 sur “Tyranny Of Souls”.

Afterglow of Ragnarok, présente non seulement un avant-goût de la musique mais aussi une première idée du récit fascinant qui est à la base de “The Mandrake Project”. Comme Bruce l’a déjà expliqué : “Ce morceau donne le ton du projet, c’est important. Comme son titre l’indique, c’est une chanson heavy, dotée d’un gros riff… mais il y a aussi une vraie mélodie dans le refrain qui lève le voile sur les ombres et les lumières qui entourent l’album…”

Réalisé par Ryan Mackfall, écrit par Bruce Dickinson et le célèbre scénariste britannique Tony Lee (qui a notamment travaillé pour l’hebdomadaire 2000 AD, les crossovers Marvel contre DC, allant de Doctor Who & Star Trek à Spider Man & X-Men), ce film dévoile le Dr Necropolis, principal protagoniste au cœur du projet Mandrake.

Il plante également le décor de l’histoire à venir, reflétant le récit sombre contenu dans la bande dessinée de 8 pages qui figure dans l’édition vinyle “gatefold” du single.

The Mandrake Project n’est pas juste un album, c’est une histoire sombre qui traite des pouvoirs, d’abus et de lutte pour l’identité, sur fond de génie scientifique et occulte.

On attend l’album avec grande impatience.

Bruce Dickinson jouera au Hellfest le 29 juin 2024, un mois après s’être produit, le 26 mai et pour la 1ère fois, à l’Olympia !

JUDAS PRIEST – Panic Attack

Un autre album tant attendu : Invincible Shield, le Nouvel album de Judas Priest sortira le 8 Mars 2024. Deux extraits incendiaires sont déjà disponibles Trial by Fire et Panic Attack. Le groupe et son chanteur légendaire, Rob Halford, passera par la France le 5 avril à Lyon à la Halle Tony Garnier et le 8 avril à Paris au Zénith.

Et en special guest, SAXON qui justement vient de sortir aujourd’hui leur 24 ème album :  HELL, FIRE AND DAMNATION.

SAXON – There’s Something In Roswell

A travers les 10 chansons puissantes et énergiques de “Hell, Fire And Damnation” SAXON explore tous les domaines de l’histoire et de ses mystères.

“There’s Something In Roswell ” est un véritable trésor parmi ces joyaux, avec le genre un groove expansif à même de faire remuer la foule des stades.

Le morceau parle des événements énigmatiques entourant le crash d’un ballon météorologique militaire, en 1947, à Roswell, au Nouveau-Mexique. Un événement baptisé “The Roswell incident”.

« C’est une histoire aussi extraordinaire que mystérieuse. Elle subsiste depuis des années, c’est exactement ce que dit la chanson : il doit y avoir quelque chose à Roswell parce qu’il reste beaucoup de choses à découvrir. et qu’on en parle encore trop”, explique le chanteur et membre fondateur Biff Byford.

Fort de sa grande expérience, le groupe fait preuve d’une impressionnante maîtrise. Biff délivre une performance vocale ultra riche et d’une grande intensité, tandis que Nigel Glockler (batterie) et Nibbs Carter (basse) imposent leurs lois rythmiques. De son côté, la paire de guitaristes composée de Doug Scarratt et Brian Tatler sonne plus fraîche et ardente que jamais.

L’écoute de “Hellfire And Damnation” nous rappelle, s’il en était encore besoin, que Saxon est bel et bien l’un des pionniers de la New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, ce mouvement qui a redéfinit les bases de cette musique pour les 45 années qui sont suivit sa fondation.

DEAD POET SOCIETY – My Condition

FISSION, 2ème album de DEAD POET SOCIETY sortira le 26 janvier 2024.

Après avoir créé la sensation en sortant, en mars 2021, “-!-” (prononcez ‘The exclamation album’), Dead Poet Society revient en 2024 avant un œuvre encore plus avant-gardiste. Ayant passé une décennie à définir, redéfinir et perfectionner son art, le quatuor californien apparaît désormais comme l’un des groupes les plus prometteurs de la scène rock internationale.

Avec ses 13 titres, “Fission” s’impose comme une sorte de révélation. Les changements personnels et différentes turbulences n’ont pas entamé la créativité de son leader Jack Underkoffler (guitare/chant), qui jette “un regard à la fois microscopique et large sur les événements qui ont changé ce que nous sommes” et affirme “vouloir laisser la vérité…” aux auditeurs. Et d’expliquer plus en détail ce concept : “Ce n’est pas aussi simple que de dire que nous voulons que notre musique laisse les gens dans un état d’esprit positif. Nous voulons que la musique parle de l’endroit où l’on se trouve. Nous voulons que les gens aient le sentiment que ce qu’ils vivent est valable, quel que soit l’endroit où ils se trouvent dans leur vie”.

Mélange unique de new wave de 80’s, de hard rock sombre, d’indie rock limite progressif sur fond de paroles douce-amère inspirés des ruptures et des relations tumultueuse ou des addictons et dépendances, le quatuor nous offre de d’hymnes alternatifs comme HURT, Runnig in Circles, I hope You Hate Me, How Could I Love You? et My Condition sont déjà disponibles. Après un concert archi complet à la Boule Noire en juin 2022 et la 1ère partie de Badflower au Petit Bain en décembre 2022 Dead Poet Society sera de retour en tête d’affiche à Paris le 24 mars 2024 !!

BRING ME THE HORIZON – KOOL AID

En attendant, leur prochain opus Post Human : NeX GEn prévu initialement en septembre, mais repoussés en raison d’imprévus, les Anglais de BRING ME THE HORIZON sortent un nouveau single, le premier depuis le départ du claviériste Jordan Fish. Le groupe sera en concert cet été au festival de Beauregard et au Mainsquare.

The Dandy Warhols – Danzig With Myself

Les Dandy Warhols se sentent cyniques sur Danzig With Myself, le premier single de leur 12ème album studio, ROCKMAKER en feat avec Frank Black.

Bien sûr, c’est peut-être la fin des temps, comme le voit Courtney Taylor-Taylor, mais vu la façon  dont  l’humanité   s’est   comportée,   avons-nous seulement mérité d’être ici ?  C’est une angoisse existentielle trop lourde à porter, mais le maître des Pixies, Frank Black, sort de l’ombre avec des riffs optimistes pour l’assistance. Les Dandys posent de lourdes questions, mais ils savent que le rock est la réponse.

ROYAL REPUBLIC – My House

Nos suédois préférés ont débuté 2024 sur les chapeaux de roue en lançant My House, une toute nouvelle chanson accompagnée d’un vidéo clip super fun.

Fidèle au son et à l’image qui ont fait son succès, Royal Republic délivre, une fois de plus, un délicieux cocktail de riffs entraînants et puissants dotés de mélodies accrocheuses pour le moins excentriques.

Un peu tout et n’importe quoi à la fois… du RR comme on l’aime !

Depuis son passage à Taratata en septembre 2022, le groupe a gardé le pied à fond sur l’accélérateur enchaînant les concerts complets (dont l’Olympia en janvier 2023) dans l’hexagone, ainsi que plusieurs apparitions mémorables en festival (Mainsquare, Beauregard, Lollapalooza…)

Fort de son succès à la radio, chaque soir, leur hit “Rata-Tata” était spontanément repris en chœur par un public ultra chaleureux.

C’est cette ambiance chaude et conviviale que Royal Republic va à nouveau partager la semaine prochaine, le mercredi 24 janvier, à l’occasion d’un concert donné dans le cadre du MIDEM au Grand auditorium Louis Lumière du Palais des festivals et des congrès de Cannes.

ARCHITECTS – Seeing Red

I discovered ARCHITECTS last year as the opening act for METALLICA at the Stade de France. The 2023 tour following the release of their tenth album, The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit, literally propelled the band into its conquest of the world with many sold-out concerts.

The British metal core band formed by Dan Searle (drums), Sam Carter (vocals), Alex Dean (bass guitar) and Adam Christianson (guitar) will start their next European tour on January 24th, in Paris, at the Zenith.  Listen to their new single Seeing Red, a raw and aggressive track crowned with a melodic and catchy chorus and come see them live.

URNE – Becoming the Ocean

Meet URNE, the stoner/sludge/metalcore trio from London who released their second album, A Feast On Sorrow, last August on via Candlelight Records / Spinefarm (distributed by PIAS).

A dark, powerful, and emotionally charged album produced by Joe Duplantier, the leader of Gojira, who having enjoyed “Serpent & Spirit”, Urne’s 1st album released in 2021, contacted them directly to offer the three Englishmen the opportunity to record this new record with him in his Silver Cord studio in Brooklyn.

Being able to travel to New York to work with Joe Duplantier and Johann Meyer is something the band had never dared to consider.

A Feast On Sorrow is extremely personal for Joe Nally, the leader of Urne: “It made me grow as a person and helped me better understand the grieving process. It’s not a joyful or uplifting album, it’s very raw and real. When the opportunity to work with Joe arose, we all knew he was the perfect person to capture the message we wanted to convey”.

We will have the opportunity to see the British band live in France in March as the 1st part of AVATAR! Until then, listen to theri excellent album.

THERAPHOSA – LUST

The 3 French members of Theraphosa open the gates of Hell with their second album, Inferno which will be released on February 2, 2024.

Inspired by the famous “La Divina Commedia” written by Dante Alighieri in the early fourteenth century, the group delves deep into the hearts of men and explores the darkest aspects of humanity.

BRUCE DICKINSON – Afterglow of Ragnarok

Bruce Dickinsons’ new solo album, THE MANDRAKE PROJECT, will be released on March 1, 2024, on BMG.

Afterglow of Ragnarok, the first single, is accompanied by a spectacular video that was presented in front of a full house on the opening day of CCXP23, the huge Brazilian Comic-Con that took place last December in Sao Paulo.

On this occasion, the singer presented a preview of this remarkable mini-film, revealing other details about the album and the comic book series that will accompany it.

Here’s what we know:

 Designed in partnership with Z2, this “comic book” will include 2000 “CCXP-exclusive versions” to the delight of the international community of fans of this type of book.

Through ten captivatingly rich tracks, Bruce Dickinson and his longtime co-writer/producer, Roy Z, have created a body of work that will definitely mark the year 2024.  Heavy as can be and endowed with sumptuous musical textures, these compositions allow Dickinson to bring to life a long-matured artistic vision, and thus deliver some of the best vocal performances of his career.

For the recording, which was largely made at the Doom Room in Los Angeles, Bruce and Roy, who serves as both guitarist and bassist, enlisted the services of keyboard maestro Mistheria and drummer Dave Moreno, both of whom were already present in 2005 on “Tyranny Of Souls”.

Afterglow of Ragnarok, presents not only a taste of the music but also a first idea of the fascinating narrative that is the basis of “The Mandrake Project“. As Bruce has already explained: “This song sets the tone of the project, it’s important. As its title suggests, it’s a heavy song, with a big riff… But there’s also a real melody in the chorus that lifts the veil on the shadows and lights that surround the album…”

Directed by Ryan Mackfall, written by Bruce Dickinson and renowned British screenwriter Tony Lee (who has worked for the weekly 2000 AD, Marvel vs. DC crossovers, ranging from Doctor Who & Star Trek to Spider-Man & X-Men), this film reveals Dr. Necropolis, the main protagonist at the heart of the Manrake project. 

It also sets the scene for the story to come, mirroring the dark narrative contained in the 8-page comic that features in the “gatefold” vinyl edition of the single. The Mandrake Project isn’t just an album, it’s a dark story about power, abuse, and the struggle for identity, set against a backdrop of scientific and occult genius.  We’re looking forward to the album.

The Dandy Warhols – Danzig With Myself

Faithful to the sound and image that made its success, Royal Republic delivers, once again, a delicious cocktail of catchy and powerful riffs with catchy melodies that are eccentric to say the least.  A little bit of everything and anything at the same time… RR just the way we like it! Since its visit to Taratata in September 2022, the band has kept its foot on the accelerator by playing sold-out concerts (including the Olympia in January 2023) in France, as well as several memorable appearances at festivals (Mainsquare, Beauregard, Lollapalooza…) On the strength of its success on the radio, every evening, their hit “Rata-Tata” was spontaneously taken up in chorus by an ultra-warm audience.

It is this warm and friendly atmosphere that Royal Republic will share again next week, on Wednesday 24 January, during a concert given as part of the MIDEM at the Grand auditorium Louis Lumière of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes.
