Après leur concert en ouverture de Metallica au Stade de France en mai 2023 et leur prestation très remarquée à Hellfest en Juin 2023, ARCHITECTS était de retour en France à Paris au Zenith, le 24 janvier 2024.

En activité depuis 20 ans, le groupe de Brighton s’est forgé une solide réputation notamment grâce à leur l’excellent album The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit sortie en octobre 2022 qui a connu un énorme succès mondial.

Ce soir, on allait donc assister à un concert très attendu à Paris, concert qui marquait également le démarrage de leur tournée européenne.

C’était aussi mon premier concert de l’année, j’arrive tôt vers 18h50 au Zenith et je ne suis pas la seule car une grande foule très motivée se dirige de grands pas vers la salle.

La fosse est quasiment remplie quand vers 19h « Nessun Dorma » le fameux air de l’Opera « Turandot » de Puccini retenti dans la salle. Eh Non, on ne s’est pas trompé de concert, c’est bien l’intro sur laquelle fait son apparition LOATHE, le premier groupe de la soirée.

Le groupe originaire de Liverpool, composé du chanteur Kadeem France, du guitariste et second chanteur Erik Bickerstaffe, du batteur Sean Radcliffe et du bassiste Feisal El-Khazragi s’inscrit dans un style metalcore bien énervé mélangé à du metal progressif, industriel et shoegazing.

Malgré le son un peu chaotique et les lumières inexistantes, le groupe réussi rapidement à chauffer l’ambiance et les premiers slameurs font déjà leur apparition.

Les deux chanteurs se complète plutôt bien en growls et en clair, et Kadeem se montre très énergique dans son jeu de scène.

Alors que qu’ils demandent à la salle d’allumer leurs torches de téléphone pour interpréter Is It Really You, ungros problème technique qui dure plusieurs minutes et mettra les musiciens mal à l’aise pour le reste du set. Dommage !

A 19h50, c’est le tour du groupe SPIRITBOX de monter sur scène. La fosse est pleine à craquer et l’accueil est extrêmement chaleureux. Visiblement, il y beaucoup de fans dans le public.

J’avais entendu beaucoup du bien du groupe canadien, mais je n’avais pas encore eu l’occasion de le voir live. Bonne nouvelle, il ya déjà plus de lumière sur scène, même un écran lumineux qui diffuse le logo du groupe et le son est meilleur.

On pourra qualifier leur style du métal moderne alternatif :  du metalcore, de post-métal, de djent, de métal progressif avec beaucoup d’influences pop et électro. 

La chanteuse Courtney LaPlante alterne avec beaucoup de facilité les growls et chant clair. Je préfère de loin le growl, les parties mélodiques étant un peu trop pop mainstream à mon gout. Pareil pour sa présence scénique, je n’arrive pas à accrocher.

Le set du groupe aux allures de « best of » ravi les fans très enthousiastes qui chante en cœur sur plusieurs morceaux. Des mosh pit se font et se défont sans arrêt. Notons les très énergique Rotoscope et Holly Roller et surtout Yellowjacket avec en guest Sam Carter d’ARCHITECTS, qui reprendra ses parties sur la chanson.

Courte pause et à quelque minutes du début de concert d’ARCHITECTS, c’est le capitaine Paul Watson de l’association SEA SHEPHERD accompagné par Lamya Essemlali (Presidente  Sea Shepherd France) qui arrivent sur scène  pour nous parler de cette association pour la protection des océans et nous présenter leurs actions et combats partout dans le monde, notamment en France pour la préservation des dauphins. Ils remercient Sam Carter et Architects pour leur soutien precieux et la grande implication dans cette cause. Enfin, sous les rugissements assourdissants du public, ARCHITECTS démarre en trombe avec leur dernier single Seeing Red et toute de suite le groupe déchaîné nous met plein la vue. C’est le massive attack auditive et visuel !

Riffs agressifs, rhythmique implacable, voix hyper puissante, le son est énorme et la scène absolument impressionnante. Gigantesque, la structure est construite en 3 étages, comme en escalier paré d’écrans lumineux à chaque niveau. Les couleurs changent sans arrêt et des paroles des chansons se déroulent. Les musiciens se baladent d’un étage à l’autre (sauf le batteur et le claviériste évidement) en empruntant des escaliers assez abrupts des deux côtés. L’effet ombre contrejour est époustouflant. 

Un nombre énorme de jeux de lumières qui bougent dans tous les sens de trouvent d’un côté et de l’autre de la scène. Spectaculaire !

Délire total dans le public ! La fosse est déchainée !

Le groupe nous accorde aucun répit. Ça sera 1h40 de concert intense de début jusqu’à la fin. La set list mettra accent sur l’album For Those That Wish to Exist sortie en 2021 avec 8 titres, alors que le dernier album sera représenté avec seulement 3 titres, sans oublier des petites incursions dans leur discographie plus ancienne.

Giving Blood, Deep Fake, Black Lungs, Gravedigger… à chaque morceau le public réagit au quart de tour. L’énergie est sans limite.

Le frontman, Sam Carter est sur tour les plans. Il court tout au long de la scène et à tous les niveaux. Très communicatif, il créé facilement une vraie communion avec les fans et il les incite à sauter et à chanter sans arrêt. Des jets de confettis explosent en début de Dead Butterflies alors que Doomsday sera dédié à leur ancien guitariste, Tom Searle, décédé en 2016.

Les titres s’enchainent sans temp mort alors que les images qui défilent sur les écrans sont de plus en plus spectaculaires. La rythmique rouleau compresseur nous écrase, les grosses guitares sont ravageuses, les mélodies sont catchy et le chant de Sam est génial que ça soit dans le clair ou le screamé.

Sam nous rappelle qu’après leur show à l’Olympia et ses approximatif 2000 spectateurs, les voilà au Zenith devant 5.000 fans. Sans aucun doute la popularité du groupe de Brighton a grandi d’une façon spectaculaire ses derniers années.

En fin de set sur When we where young se formera un énorme circle pit à la demande de chanteur « comme à Hellfest » va-t-il préciser !

Les énormes hits Nihilist et Animals seront laissés pour le rappel et la foule deviendra folle. La fosse est en effervescence avec de mosh pit endiablés et de crowd surf à ne pas en finir sous une pluie de confetti !  Dans les gradins quasiment tout le monde est debout et assite médusé au spectacle grandiose que ça soit sur scène ou dans la fosse.

Là on peut vraiment dire que le final fut en APOTHEOSE !

ARCHITECTS livre ce soir un concert monumental ! Une maitrise parfaite du Metalcore et un équilibre admirable entre le son sauvage et brutal et les interludes mélodiques. Energie phénoménale, scénographie majestueuse, une performance électrisante et inoubliable devant une marée humaine complètement engagée et dévouée qui a chanté chaque refrain à tue-tête.

« We just want to rock the World » va affirmer Sam pedant le concert! On ne peut qu’être d’accord avec lui. Le groupe le fait avec brio ce soir à Paris !  Bravo aux musiciens et au public infatigable!

After their opening concert for Metallica at the Stade de France in May 2023 and their remarkable performance at Hellfest in June 2023, ARCHITECTS was back in Paris at the Zenith, on January 24, 2024. 

Formed 20 years ago, the band from Brighton has built a solid reputation especially thanks to their excellent album The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit released in October 2022 which was a huge worldwide success. 

For my first concert of the year, I arrive early, around 6:50 pm at the Zenith and I’m not the only one because a large and highly motivated crowd is heading for the venue.

The pit was almost full when, around 7 p.m., “Nessun Dorma”, the famous aria from Puccini’s opera “Turandot”, resounded in the hall. Oh no, we didn’t go to the wrong concert, it’s really the intro on which LOATHE, the first band of the evening, burst on stage.

The band from Liverpool, formed of singer Kadeem France, guitarist and second singer Erik Bickerstaffe, drummer Sean Radcliffe and bassist Feisal El-Khazragi is part of a well-edgy metalcore style mixed with progressive, industrial metal and shoegazing.

Despite the somewhat chaotic sound, the non-existent lights, the band quickly managed to heat up the atmosphere and the first slammers already appeared. 

The two singers complement each other quite well in growls and clear, and Kadeem is very energetic in his stage acting. 

As they ask the venue to turn on their phone torches to perform Is It Really You, a big technical problem that lasts several minutes and will make the musicians uncomfortable for the rest of the set. Too bad!

At 7:50 p.m., it’s the turn of the band SPIRITBOX to take the stage. The pit is packed and the welcome is extremely warm. Obviously, there are a lot of fans in the audience.

I had heard a lot of good things about the Canadian band, but I hadn’t had the opportunity to see them live yet. Good news, there’s already more lights on stage, even a bright screen that plays the band’s logo and the sound is better.

Their style can be described as alternative modern metal: metalcore, post-metal, djent, progressive metal with a lot of pop and electro influences.  The Singer, Courtney LaPlante, alternates between growls and clean vocals with ease. I much prefer the growl, the melodic parts being a bit too pop mainstream for my taste. The same goes for her stage presence, I can’t get hooked onto.

The band’s “best of” set delighted the very enthusiastic fans who sang along on several tracks. Mosh pits are made and undone all the time.

Let’s note the very energetic Rotoscope and Holly Roller and especially Yellowjacket with guest Sam Carter from ARCHITECTS, who will sing his parts on the studio song. 

Short break and a few minutes before the start of the concert of ARCHITECTS, it is the captain Paul Watson of the SEA SHEPHERD association accompanied by Lamya Essemlali (Presidente Sea Shepherd France) who arrive on stage to talk to us about this association for the protection of the oceans and present us their actions and their struggles all over the world, especially in France for the preservation of dolphins. Finally, under the deafening roars of the audience, ARCHITECTS starts with a bang with their latest single Seeing Red and immediately the unleashed band blows us away. It’s the massive auditory and visual attack!

Aggressive riffs, relentless rhythmic, super powerful vocals, the sound is huge and the stage absolutely impressive. The gigantic structure is built in 3 floors, like a staircase adorned with luminous screens on each level. The colours change all the time and the lyrics of the songs unfold.

The musicians wander from one floor to another (except for the drummer and keyboardist of course) by taking quite steep stairs on both sides. The shadows effect is breathtaking.  

A huge number of lights that move in all directions can be found on either side of the stage. Spectacular! Total delirium in the audience! The pit is unleashed!

The band gives us no respite. It will be 1h40 of intense concert from the beginning to the end. The set list will focus on the album For Those That Wish to Exist released in 2021 with 8 tracks, while the last album will be represented with only 3 tracks, not to mention small incursions into their older discography.

Giving Blood, Deep Fake, Black Lungs, Gravedigger… With each song, the audience reacts at the drop of a hat. The energy is limitless.

The frontman, Sam Carter is everywhere. He runs throughout the stage and at all levels. Very communicative, he easily creates a real communion with the fans and he encourages them to jump and sing non-stop. Confetti jets explode at the beginning of Dead Butterflies while Doomsday will be dedicated to their former guitarist, Tom Searle, who died in 2016.

The titles follow one another without a dead time while the images that scroll on the screens are more and more spectacular. The rhythmic steamroller crushes us, the big guitars are devastating, the melodies are catchy and Sam’s vocals are great whether it’s clean or screamed.

Sam reminds us that after their performance at Olympia in front of 2000 spectators, here they are at the Zenith in front of 5,000 fans. There is no doubt, that the popularity of the Brighton band has grown dramatically in these last years. 

At the end of the set on When We Where Young, the fans will form a huge circle pit at the request of the singer “like at Hellfest” he will specify!

The huge hits Nihilist and Animals will be left for the encore and the crowd will go crazy. The pit is buzzing with frenzied mosh pits and crowd surfing to no end under a shower of confetti! 

In the stands, almost everyone is standing and totally stunned by the grandiose show, whether on stage or in the pit. Here we can really say that the finale was in APOTHEOSIS!

ARCHITECTS delivers a monumental concert tonight! A perfect mastery of metalcore and a perfect balance between wild and brutal sound and melodic interludes. Phenomenal energy, majestic scenography, an electrifying and unforgettable performance in front of a completely committed and dedicated human tide who sang every chorus at the top of their lungs.

“We just want to rock the World” will say Sam during the show!  We can only agree with him. The band does it brilliantly tonight in Paris!  Congratulations to the musicians and the tireless audience!
