Kaiser Chiefs, Trianon, Paris – 02.11.2016 Live Report

Wednesday evening, Kaiser Chiefs was in Paris to defend their sixth album “Stay Together”.

My surprise was big when I found the beautiful hall of the Trianon not so crowded. Why?

Was it because the fans have really hated this new album, so bad rated by the musical press (too superficial, too sweety pop, far too many synths, very commercial melodies, etc …)?

Or the large number of concerts scheduled in Paris the same day guided their steps to other gigs (Glass Animals played at the Elysée Montmartre, just next door, or Slaves played at Trabendo…)

On my side, I have chosen the British from Leeds and frankly, their show was no exception to the rule: electric, bouncy, hyper dynamic. The band is still as crazy as before, motivated, friendly…

Their charismatic lead singer Ricky Wilson is still so enthusiastic and great performer.

Well, despite the fact that the new songs “Parachute”, “Hole in My Soul”,” Good Clean Fun” have clearly a variety, dancing sound, a bit far from the indie-rock that the band used to do at their beginning, but finally, they are not bad…and sound good live.

Anyway, their big hits as “Ruby”, “I predict a Riot”, “Every day I love you less and less”, “Oh My God” or “Angry Mob” take the lead and keep intact the Kaiser’s precious live reputation. Honestly, they proved once again that they are a fantastic live band.

The audience really enjoyed. At least around me, everyone was singing-a-long and jumping around. The Trianon’s floor trembled dangerously. And the lights were beautiful.

Mercredi soir, Kaiser Chiefs était à Paris pour défendre leur sixième album « Stay Together ».

A ma grande surprise, la belle salle du Trianon n’était pas remplie. Pourquoi ?

Est-ce que les fans ont vraiment détesté ce nouvel album tant descendu par la critique de spécialité (trop pop sucré, trop superficiel, trop de synthés, des mélodies très commerciales, etc …) ?

Où le grand nombre de concerts programmés à Paris le même jour a dirigé leurs pas vers d’autres salles (Glass Animals jouait à l’Elysée Montmartre, juste la porte à côte, Slaves jouait au Trabendo) ?

Bref, moi j’ai choisi les anglais de Leeds et franchement, leur show n’a pas dérogé à la règle : électrique, plein d’entrain, hyper dynamique …le groupe est toujours aussi fou, motivé et sympathique… Et Ricky Wilson, leur chanteur charismatique, a toujours la pèche : un grand performeur.

Eh oui, même si les nouvelles chansons « Parachute », « Hole in My Soul », « Good Clean Fun » ont une tendance plus variété, dansante, 80 ‘s… un peu loin de l’indie rock auquel le groupe nous avait habitué à leur débuts, finalement, elles ne sont pas si mauvaises .. Et elles sonnent assez bien en live.

Bien sûr, les fabuleux vieux hits « Ruby », « I predict a Riot », « Every day I love you less and less », « Oh My God » ou « Angry Mob » prennent le dessous et garde intacte la précieuse réputation des Kaisers. Ils sont toujours le même super groupe live.

Le public a vraiment apprécié…au tour de moi, l’ambiance était chaude, joyeuse et sautillante…le planché du Trianon tremblais dangereusement.

Et les lumières étaient très belles.
