Trois ans d’attente, trois reprogrammations, nous y voilà, enfin, le 27 Novembre 2022, à Accor Arena, Paris, pour assister à la soirée qui réunissait deux géants du métal alternative : WITHIN TEMPTATION, le groupe phare du métal symphonique et EVANESCENCE, les monstres du métal gothique, dans le cadre de leur tournée mondiale en co-headline, Worlds Collide Tour.
A 19h devant la salle, la file d’attente serpente sous la pluie fine de ce dimanche soir de novembre très tristounet.
A l’intérieur, une énorme foule de fans habillées en noir, looks gothiques, de sweaters siglées Evanescence, Within Temptation, Nightwish ou Hellfest est déjà massée devant la scène. Les gradins sont pas mal remplis également.
19h40 : Smash Into Pieces monte sur scène fermement décidé de chauffer la foule et ça marche plutôt bien. Le batteur avec son look Kylo Ren de Star Wars porte un masque lumineux spectaculaire qui change de couleurs au fil des chansons. Des néons de plusieurs couleurs encadrent la batterie ; le son est super fort, des boules quies s’imposent.
Le rock métal électro du quatuor suédois est très énergique et le combo utilise très bien la grande scène pour montrer leurs talents et dynamisme. Les premiers rangs sont enthousiastes et agitent les bras en l’air et chantent avec eux. Plusieurs albums à leur actif les musiciens de Smash Into Pieces n’ont pas vraiment le temp de mettre en valeur leur discographie bien fourni – pas moins de 7 albums à leur actif, dont 3 sorti ces 3 dernières années – car le show est très court. Les 30 minutes qui leur sont accordées passent super vite.
20h25 c’est l’heure d’entrée en scène pour EVANESCENCE. Il faut savoir que tout au longue de la tournée, les 2 tête d’affiche alternent leur performance, premier ou deuxième de la soirée. A Paris c’est donc le tour des américainsde chanter en premier.
Alors que la voix incroyable d’Amy Lee fait écho sur l’intro d’Artifact/The Turn, la scène sombre est baignée seulement par de lumières violettes donnés par les barres de leds qui clignotent. Doucement, on commence à apercevoir sa silhouette en haut de la plate-forme, devant un énorme écran triangulaire qui diffuse une lueur semblable à celle du soleil.
Le reste du groupe entre sur scène et Amy descend vers eux, alors que l’intro se fond dans le morceau suivant, Broken Pieces Shine.
L’écran s‘anime avec des images d’un volcan en éruption et l’impressionnante batterie de Will Hunt qui donne le tempo de ce morceau, explose sous les coups de baguette puissants.
Les riffs des guitares incendiaires se rajoutent à cet énorme déluge de sons. Un début de show extraordinaire. L’émotion est extrême. La chair de poule.
Amy Lee, icone de la mode gotique qui a inspirés des nombreux fans, est habillée en noir : top bustier, jupe vaporeuse et plateformes lacées, elle porte des brassards avec de longues tissus fluides tie & dye qui donnent une magnifique grâce et fluidité à ses mouvements.
Les poings pompant en l’air, elle s’est cambre en arrière comme si elle voulait prendre son élan vocal et arriver au sommet de la perfection de ses aiguës. Une puissance et force époustouflante. Sa voix est d’une beauté phénoménale.
A la fin de morceau, Amy crie Parissss et la foule est en délire. L’Energie est formidable.
Made of Stone et Take Cover continuent avec la même énergie et émotion. Les guitares de Tim McCord et Troy McLawhorn sont exceptionnelles, la basse d’Emma Anzai suit parfaitement, comme d’ailleurs ses harmonies vocales aux côtés de la voix puissante et obsédante d’Amy. Will Hunt domine la scène en haut de sa plateforme et continue à envoyer ses coups de baguettes magiques.
Tonnerre d’applaudissements après chaque morceau. Enorme réaction du public à l’écoute du riff d’ouverture de la glorieuse Going Under, reprise en cœur par la foule déchainé.
On observe une petite hésitation dans la voix d’Amy Lee qui a un peu du mal de monter dans les aiguës sur ce morceau. Y a-t-il un problème ? Mais les craintes sont vite dissipées, car la chanteuse après s’être éclipsé dans le backstage pour revenir avec des nouvelles bottes, nous expliquent que les chaussures plateformes lui faisaient très mal aux pieds. Apparemment, il faut être bien chaussé pour avoir une voix parfaite.
La set list donnera la priorité aux nouveaux morceaux de l’album The Bitter Truth, sorti en 2021. Wasted on You est un pur moment d’émotion, la voix est sublime. Amy Lee dans toute sa splendeur.
Plusieurs fois un piano noir surgira sur scène de nulle part (en fait, il y a une trappe en dessous de la scène par où il monte et il descend) et Amy Lee s’installe pour interpréter magistralement Far from Heaven et Your Star.
Il ya aussi un synthé installé sur la plateforme surélevé et la chanteuse s’en servira pour Call me when you are sober, Imaginary ou Use Your Voice. Pour ce dernier titre engagé, elle fera une introduction très forte “Ladies, Gentelmen ! Don’t let anybody else speak for you”.
Elle nous dira que notre voix est l’un des outils les plus puissants dont nous disposons. Il faut s’exprimer et se battre pour ce qu’on sache être juste, n’arrêterons pas de nous battre les uns pour les autres…
Ce morceau plein de force et de l’espoir sera accompagné sur l’écran par des images fortes montrant la guerre en Ukraine, le drapeau ukrainien et des manifestants arborant des pancartes « Stop War ».
C’est une performance magnifique. Tous les musiciens travaillent ensemble pour que ce morceau devient un énorme hymne porteur d’un message très puissant.
Le show va se terminer avec 2 de chansons, les plus emblématiques du groupe.
La puissance de My Imortal est tout simplement phénoménale. Des frissons d’émotion. Amy joue au piano et sa voix est impeccable, absolument parfaite. Des spots lumineux dirigés vers elle rendent ce moment plus intimiste.
Elle fait participer la foule « Let Me See your Light, Put your Lights n the Air “. Toute l’arène est submergée et absorbé par chaque mot qu’elle dit ou chante (« tes désirs sont des ordres » affirme quelqu’un derrière moi). Les torches des téléphones sont allumées. Un moment sublime.
Et pour clôturer quoi de mieux que la célèbre, Bring Me To Life, le morceau ayant permis à Evanescence de connaitre le plus grand succès. Les fans accompagnent alors Amy Lee au chant sous une pluie de confettis et d’applaudissements. Nombre record de téléphones qui enregistre.
Quel show époustouflant !
Le pouvoir d’Amy Lee à chanter et à maîtriser sa gamme vocale est exceptionnel. Du début jusqu’à la fin elle nous a ensorcelé avec sa voix angélique et sa présence scénique incroyable. Le reste du groupe a été également en feu ce soir. Bravo !
Impressionnante opération de reconstruction de la scène pendant la pause tandis que les écrans diffusent un QR code qu’on nous demande de scanner pour être les premiers à écouter/ télécharger la nouvelle chanson de Within Temptation, « The Fire Within » qui sortira le 9 décembre 2022.
Enfin, l’écran rond au-dessous de la scène s’illumine et le visage de Winston Churchill apparait. Une gigantesque tête inspirée de l’artwork de la pochette du single de The Purge se trouve au milieu de la plateforme centrale et un énorme crucifix descende vers la foule. C’est sur l’intro de You Want It Darker de Leonard Cohen que le show Within Temptation démarre. Tout de suite on prend plein les yeux. La mise en scène est exceptionnelle.
La chanteuse Sharon den Adel fait son entrée spectaculaire émergeant gracieusement d’un panache de fumée et s’installe sur sa plate-forme centrale, alors que l’écran rond central s’élève.
Elle est vêtue d’une magnifique robe bustier doré, façon déesse guerrière et porte une couronne. Le outfit est similaire à cellui de la video Don’t Pray for Me. Les autres musiciens les guitaristes Ruud Jolie et Stefan Helleblad, Jeroen van Veen – basse, Martijn Spierenburg – clavier ont leurs propres petites plates-formes sur scène, tandis que la batterie de Mike Coolen est placée un peu à gauche de la tête imposante.
La voix obsédante de Sharon Den Adel retentit sur Our Solemn Hour. Faster et Paradise suivent et la foule estémerveillé. Sharon fait résonner sa gamme vocale et mène le show. Sur Paradise, la chanteuse Tarja Turunen apparait à l’écran pour un duo au chant avec Sharon.
L’éclairage est spectaculaire, les flammes et les colonnes de fumées se déclenchent en rythme de la musique et l’ambiance est électrique. L’Energie au maximum. On retient notre respiration. Les vibrations orchestrales et symphoniques s’entremêlent avec les riffs lourds et des chants magnifiques.
La performance du groupe est exceptionnelle et les hits continuent à s’enchaîner. Aucun temp mort. Aucun répit ni pour le groupe ni pour l’audience. Pas le temps de reprendre son souffle, qu’un autre morceau nous éblouit. L’énergie et la précision du show sont formidables.
Les flammes continuent de voler, les colonnes de fumée se déclenchent en rafales régulières et les lumières et les écrans continuent de fournir un spectacle visuel fantastique.
“If your country was invaded would you defend it?” (Si votre pays était envahi, le défendriez-vous ?) demande Sharon avant de saisir un énorme drapeau ukrainien et de l’agiter en signe de solidarité tout au long de Rise your Banner.
La cadence infernale du morceau et les cris de soutien de la foule sont époustouflants et créent une admirable ambiance de force et d’unité.
Sharon prend un moment pour se souvenir avec beaucoup d’émotion de son père disparu récemment, avant d’interpréter Supernova en cœur avec le public.
The Reckoning resonne lourdement avec son symphonique et sa magnifique mélodie, Amy Lee rejoint Sharon pour une duo magistral. Don’t Pray for Me marque un autre moment de vive émotion.
Après un changement rapide de tenue, Sharon réapparaît dans une belle robe rouge longue et s’accroche à un cerceau aérien, avant d’être hissée dans les airs pour une interprétation fantaisiste de All I Need. Elle entraîne le public dans une vague de bras et de lumières du téléphone.
Le deux dernières morceaux Ice Queen et Mother Earth feront exploser la salle avec ses énormes sons orchestraux et des riffs impressionnants.
Concert magistral !
Within Temptation et Evanescence nous ont offert une soirée inoubliable à Paris, avec deux performances hypnotisantes qui prouvent qu’ils sont deux groupes fantastiques, deux énormes groupes qui ont tous deux leurs propres styles uniques, une force incroyable et un puissant pouvoir d’expression.
Deux des plus grandes voix féminines du métal moderne réunis sur la même affiche, c’est clair que cela n’arrive pas tous les jours. Superbe !

Three years of waiting, three reprogramming, here we are, finally on November 27, 2022, at Accor Arena, Paris, to attend the evening that brought together two giants of alternative metal: WITHIN TEMPTATION, the flagship band of symphonic metal and EVANESCENCE, the monsters of gothic metal, as part of their world tour in co-headline, Worlds Collide Tour.
At 7pm in front of the venue, the queue weaves this Sunday evening of November rain. Inside, a huge crowd of fans dressed in black, with gothic looks, wearing sweaters with the logo Evanescence, Within Temptation, Nightwish or Hellfest is already massed in front of the stage. The stands are quite full as well.
7:40 pm: Smash Into Pieces takes the stage firmly decided to warm up the crowd and it works pretty well. The drummer with his look Kylo Ren from Star Wars wears a spectacular light mask that changes colours over the songs. Neon lights of several colours frame the drums; The sound is super loud, earplugs are required.
The electro metal rock of the Swedish quartet is very energetic and the combo uses the big stage very well to show their talents and dynamism. The front rows are enthusiastic and wave their arms in the air and sing along. Their discography counts seven albums to including 3 albums released in the last 3 years. But Smash Into Pieces does not really have the time to highlight it well as the 30 minutes allotted to their show go by super-fast.
20:25 is the time of entry on stage for EVANESCENCE. You should know that throughout the tour, the 2 headliners alternate their performances. In Paris, it is therefore the turn of the Americans to sing first.
While Amy Lee’s incredible voice echoes on the intro of Artifact/The Turn, the dark stage is bathed only in purple lights given by the flashing LED bars. Slowly, we started to see her silhouette at the top of the platform, in front of a huge triangular screen that diffuses a glow similar to that of the sun.
The rest of the band enters the stage and Amy descends towards them, while the intro merges into the next track, Broken Pieces Shine.
The screen comes alive under an erupting volcano and Will Hunt’s impressive drums that set the tempo of this song, explode under the powerful sticks hit.
Incendiary guitars riffs join to this huge deluge of sounds. An extraordinary start to the show. The emotion is extreme. Goosebumps.
Amy Lee, an icon of gothic fashion who has inspired many fans, is dressed in black: bustier top, filmy skirt, laced platforms, she wears armbands with long flowing tie & dye fabrics that give a magnificent grace and fluidity to her movements.
With her fists pumping in the air, she arched back as if she wanted to take her vocal momentum and reach the perfection for her high -pitched voice. Breath-taking power and strength. Her voice is phenomenally beautiful. At the end of the song, Amy shouts Parissss and the crowd is delirious. The energy is great.
Made of Stone and Take Cover continue with the same energy and emotion. The guitarists Tim McCord and Troy McLawhorn are exceptional, Emma Anzai’s bass follows perfectly, as well as her vocal harmonies alongside Amy’s powerful and haunting voice.
Will Hunt dominates the stage at the top of his platform and continues to hit hard with his magic wands.
Thunderous applause after each song. Huge reaction of the audience while listening to the opening riff of the glorious Going Under, followed by big singalong.
There is a little hesitation in the voice of Amy Lee who has some difficulties to reach her high voice on this track. Will there be a problem? But the fears are quickly dispelled, because the singer after slipping away in the backstage to come back with new boots, explain that the platform shoes hurt her feet very much. Apparently, you need good shoes to have a perfect voice.
The set list will prioritize new tracks from the album The Bitter Truth, released in 2021. Wasted on You is a pure moment of emotion, the voice is sublime. Amy Lee in all her glory.
Several times a black piano will appear on stage out of nowhere (in fact, there is a trapdoor below the stage through which it goes up and down) and Amy Lee settles down to masterfully perform Far from Heaven and Your Star.
There is also a keyboard installed on the raised platform and the singer will use it for Call me when you are sober, Imaginary or Use Your Voice. For this last committed title, she will make a very strong introduction “Ladies, Gentelmen ! Don’t let anybody else speak for you”.
She tells us that our voice is one of the most powerful tools we have. We must express ourselves and fight for what we know to be fair and we should not stop fighting for each other…
This song full of strength and hope will be accompanied on the screen by powerful images showing the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian flag and protesters carrying “Stop War” signs. It’s a magnificent performance. All the musicians work together to make this song a huge anthem with a very powerful message.
The show will end with 2 songs, the most emblematic of the American band.
The power of My Imortal is simply phenomenal. Shivers of emotion. Amy plays the piano and her voice is absolutely perfect. Light spots directed towards her and make this moment more intimate.
“Let Me See your Light, Put your Lights in the Air” she ask (“your desires are orders,” says someone behind me). The whole arena is overwhelmed and totally absorbed by every word she says or sings. Phone torches are lit. A sublime moment.
And to close what better than the famous, Bring Me To Life, the song that allowed Evanescence to know the greatest success. Fans then accompany Amy Lee singing under a shower of confetti and huge applauses. Big number of phones that records this magnificent instant.
What a breath-taking show! Amy Lee’s power to sing and master her vocal range is exceptional. From beginning to end she mesmerised us with her angelic voice and her incredible stage presence. The rest of the group was also on fire tonight. BRAVO!
Impressive operation to rebuild the stage during the break while the screens broadcast a QR code that we are asked to scan to be the first to listen to / download the new song of Within Temptation, “The Fire Within” which will be released on December 9, 2022.
Finally, the round screen below the stage lights up and Winston Churchill’s face appears. A gigantic head inspired by the artwork of the cover of The Purge single sits in the middle of the central platform and a huge crucifix descends towards the crowd. It is on the intro of You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen that the show Within Temptation starts. The staging is exceptional. Our eyes are sparkling.
The Singer Sharon den Adel makes her spectacular entrance gracefully emerging from a plume of smoke and settles onto her central platform, as the central round screen rises. She is dressed in a beautiful golden strapless dress, like a warrior goddess and wears a crown. The outfit is similar to the one from the video Don’t Pray for Me.
The other musicians’ guitarists Ruud Jolie and Stefan Helleblad, Jeroen van Veen – bass, Martijn Spierenburg – keyboard have their own small platforms on stage, while Mike Coolen’s drums are placed a little to the left of the imposing head.
Sharon Den Adel’s haunting voice echoes over Our Solemn Hour. Faster and Paradise follow and the crowd is amazed. Sharon makes her superb vocal range resonate and leads the show.
On Paradise, the singer Tarja Turunen appears on screen for a vocal duet with Sharon.
The lighting is spectacular, the flames and columns of smoke are triggered to the rhythm of the music and the atmosphere is electric. Energy to the maximum. We hold our breath. Orchestral and symphonic vibrations intertwine with heavy riffs and beautiful vocals.
The performance of the band is exceptional and the hits continue to follow one another. No dead time. No respite for either the group or the audience. No time to catch your breath, that another track dazzles us. The energy and precision of the show is great.
The flames continue to fly, the columns of smoke go off in regular bursts, and the lights and screens continue to provide a fantastic visual spectacle.
“If your country was invaded, would you defend it?” Sharon asks before grabbing a huge Ukrainian flag and waving it in solidarity throughout the song Rise your Banner.
The infernal cadence of the song and the shouts of support from the crowd are breath-taking and create an admirable atmosphere of strength and unity.
Sharon takes a moment to fondly remember her recently deceased father, before performing Supernova with a lot of emotion.
The Reckoning resonates heavily with its symphonic and beautiful melody, Amy Lee joins Sharon for a masterful duet.
Don’t Pray for Me marks another moment of strong emotion. After a quick change of outfit, Sharon reappears in a beautiful long red dress and clings to an aerial hoop, before being hoisted into the air for an awesome performance of All I Need. She pulls the audience into a wave of arms and lights from the phone.
The last two tracks Ice Queen and Mother Earth will blow the room with its huge orchestral sounds and impressive riffs. Masterful concert!
Within Temptation and Evanescence offered us an unforgettable evening with two mesmerizing performances that prove that they are two huge bands that both have their own unique styles, incredible strength and a fantastic power of expression. Two of the greatest female voices in modern metal on the in the same evening, it’s clear that this doesn’t happen every day. Phenomenal!
