Ce 11 février 2022 marque le retour de l’iconique guitariste SLASH avec son groupe SLASH FT. MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS.
Intitulé simplement « 4 » ce nouvel album est le cinquième album solo de SLASH et le quatrième avec ses acolytes MYLES KENNEDY (chant), BRENT FITZ (batterie), TODD KERNS (basse et chant) et FRANK SIDORIS (guitare et chant) en 10 ans de carrière.
Depuis Living The Dream sorti en 2018, on attendait ce nouveau disque avec beaucoup d’impatience. Entre temps le Covid est passé par là mais ça n’a pas empêché les 5 musiciens de voyager ensemble à travers le pays, en bus, jusqu’à Nashville et d’investir le fameux RCA Studio A où ils ont enregistré avec le fameux producteur Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Chris Stapleton, John Prine, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile).
Nashville est aussi la ville natale de la marque emblématique d’instruments américains, GIBSON et on le sait, cela fait plus que 30 ans que Gibson et SLASH collaborent ensemble.Cette collaboration a été donc poussé encore plus loin car 4 a la particularité d’être aussi le premier album à sortir sur Gibson Records, le nouveau label crée par la marque en partenariat avec BMG.
Les 10 morceaux ont été entièrement capturés “live” en studio. Les musiciens ont pu ainsi laisser libre cours à leur talent et à l’improvisation, ce qui confère à 4 une ambiance chaleureuse, propre aux jam sessions en même temps qu’une approche old school Rock N’Roll.
D’ailleurs, SLASH avoue qu’il a voulu enregistrer un album de cette manière depuis bien longtemps car c’est la meilleure manière de capturer l’énergie brute et l’âme du groupe, mais aucun producteur n’a voulu relever le défi. Voilà, donc que Dave Cobb s’est plié à son désir.
Et le résultat est là : un album magnifique du début à la fin qui sans surprise, reconfirme la capacité et le talent infinie de SLASH à créer un travail de guitare sublime, révèle un Myles Kennedy au top de sa forme au chant et surtout confirme de nouveau cette incroyable alchimie développée entre ces deux artistes au fil des années.
Le titre d’ouverture The River is Rising nous met toute suite dans le bain avec son riff percutant comme seulement Slash sait le faire. Un morceau hard et puissant avec un énorme refrain qui devient rapidement mémorable.
Whatever Gets You By démarre avec une batterie forte suivi d’un solo frénétique. C’est La Vie et son riff grinçant est groovy et accrocheuse et The Path Less Followed est plus bluesy.
Sur Actions Speak Louder Than Words la guitare est à tomber. Très rythmé, on ressent ici une influence country. Pas étonnant, car Cobb a beaucoup collaboré avec de artistes country.
L’intro au sitar du Spirit Love donne à la chanson un son moyen-oriental et psychédélique avant qu’elle ne devienne plus hard. Slash détient en sitar électrique depuis les années 90 ‘s, mais il ne l’a jamais utilisé par crainte de faire top cliché Beatles ou n’importe quel groupe des années 60’s. Eh bien, branché au Marshall, il en a fait excellent usage sur ce morceau.
Fill My World met en vedette un solo fulgurant très inspiré Sweet Child of Mine. La voix est pleine d’émotion et la guitare brillante bien enveloppé part une section rythmique sans faute.
Sur la Call off the Dogs la spontanéité de l’enregistrement est évidente. Une chanson immensément rock, ultra énergique et incendiaire qui s’appuie parfaitement encore une fois sur un solo percutant.
Fall Back to Earth qui fais office de grande finale est tout simplement magique. Ma préférée. Un morceau complexe et époustouflant qui commence toute en douceur et va en crescendo avec des riffs que se succèdent en toute beauté et un refrain émotionnel. SLASH nous a révélé qui c’est morceau inspiré du cinéma (le guitariste est très fan des film horror, il a d’ailleurs crée SLASHfiction, sa société de production de films et de télévision spécialisée dans ce genre et il est souvent inspiré musicalement par ce type de cinéma.)
4 est aboutissement de plus d’une décennie de collaboration. Le fait de l’enregistrer live lui attribue un son encore plus authentique et énergique. L’empreinte de Slash est évidement omniprésente. Son travail de guitare enflammé et passionné est tout simplement génial.
La belle voix de Myles Kennedy est toujours aussi solide, Frank Sidoris continue d’être un excellent partner in crime pour Slash, ensemble forme un tandem parfait, tandis que la section rythmique formé par le bassiste Todd Kerns et le batteur Brent Fitz enveloppe étroitement et brillamment les riffs de Slash.
En continuation de Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, Snakepit et avec ce 4ème album de SLASH FT. MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS, SLASH rajoute une nouvelle pierre précieuse à édifice du Rock N’ Roll.
Des riffs mémorables, des refrains grandioses, 4 est l’album destiné d’être interprétée dans son intégralité sur les plus grandes scènes du monde. Une tournée Européenne est prévue pour début 2023.
Mais jusqu’à là, il y aura la tournée avec Guns N’Roses qui commence cet été et qui va passer par HELLFEST, le 25 Juin 2022.

This February 11, 2022 marks the come back of the iconic guitarist SLASH with his band SLASH FT. MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS.
Entitled simply “4” this new album is SLASH‘s fifth solo album and the fourth with his acolytes MYLES KENNEDY (vocals), BRENT FITZ (drums), TODD KERNS (bass and vocals) and FRANK SIDORIS (guitar and vocals) in 10 years of career.
Since Living The Dream released in 2018, we have been waiting for this new record with great impatience. Meanwhile the Covid has passed by but it has not stopped the 5 musicians to travel together across the country, by bus, to Nashville and to invest the famous RCA Studio A, where they recorded with the famous producer Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Chris Stapleton, John Prine, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile).
Nashville is also the hometown of the iconic American instrument brand, GIBSON and as we know, Gibson and SLASH have been working together for more than 30 years. This collaboration was pushed even further because 4 has the distinction of also being the first album to be released on Gibson Records, the new label created by the brand in partnership with BMG.
All 10 tracks were fully captured “live” in the studio. The musicians were thus able to give free rein to their talent and improvisation, which gives 4 a warm atmosphere, specific to jam sessions at the same time as an old school Rock N’ Roll flavour.
Moreover, SLASH admits that he wished to record an album in this way for a long time because it is the best way to capture the raw energy and soul of the band, but no producer wanted to take up the challenge. Till Dave Cobb.
And the result is there: a magnificent album from beginning to end that reconfirms SLASH‘s ability and infinite talent to create a sublime guitar work, it reveals a Myles Kennedy at the top of his vocal shape and above all, it confirms once again this incredible chemistry developed between these two rock artists over the years.
The opening track The River is Rising put us in the mood with its powerful riff as only Slash knows how to do. A hard and powerful track with a huge chorus that quickly becomes memorable.
Whatever Gets You By starts with a strong drum beat followed by a frenetic solo. C’est la vie and its squeaky riff is groovy and catchy and The Path Less Followed is more bluesy.
On Actions Speak Louder Than Words the guitar is a killer. Very rhythmic, we feel here a country influence. No wonder, because Cobb has collaborated a lot with country music artists.
The Sitar intro to Spirit Love gives the song a Middle Eastern and psychedelic sound before it becomes harder. Slash has an electric sitar since the 90’s, but he never used because he thought it was so cliché sounded and he never wanted to do anything that trying to sound like Beatles or any other 60s band. Well, plugged into the Marshall, he made excellent use of it on this track.
Fill My World features a dazzling solo obviously inspired by Sweet Child of Mine. The vocals is full of emotion and the bright guitar well wrapped reveal a rhythm section without fail.
On the Call off the Dogs the spontaneity of the recording is obvious. An immensely rock, ultra-energetic and incendiary song that relies perfectly once again on a hard-hitting solo.
Fall Back to Earth, which serves as a grand finale, is simply magical. My favourite.
A complex and breath-taking song that begins smoothly and goes into crescendo with riffs that follow one another in all beauty and an emotional chorus. SLASH revealed that this track has a cinematic inspiration (the guitarist is a big fan of horror films, he created SLASHfiction, his film production and television company specializing in this film genre and he is often musically inspired by this type of cinema.)
4 is the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration. The fact of recording it live gives it an even more authentic and energetic sound. Slash’s footprint is obviously omnipresent. His fiery and passionate guitar work is just awesome.
Miles Kennedy’s beautiful voice is still as solid as ever, Frank Sidoris continues to be an excellent partner in crime for Slash, while the rhythm section formed by bassist Todd Kerns and drummer Brent Fitz tightly and brilliantly envelops Slash’s riffs.
In continuation of Guns ‘n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, Snakepit, with this 4th album of SLASH FT. MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS, SLASH adds a new gem to the Rock N’ Roll legacy.
Memorable riffs, grandiose choruses, 4 is definitelly, the album made to be performed full-length on the biggest stages of the world. A European tour is planned for early 2023. But until then, there will be the tour with Guns N’ Roses that starts this summer and will go through HELLFEST on June 25, 2022.

It excites me more now that probably when I first started – it’s a journey that never ends, it’s always news things to do, it’s not even a matter of reinventing myself I am still in the process of inventing myself in the first place.
As far as guitar playing is concerns that far too is a never-ending journey there will be always new things to discover on guitar until I’m pushing daises….I have always learnt that you have to persevere, that’s part of my nature anyway I love what I do and I can’t imagine ever stopping”
