Bon, 2022 commence doucement et toujours dans la confusion. C’est peut-être difficile de prévoir ce qui va se passer cette année mais une chose est sure : 2022 va être une fabuleuse année pour la musique ! En fin… pour les concerts ce n’est pas encore gagné mais ne perdons pas l’espoir. No Panic !
Dans le programme de ce janvier 2022, un hommage à David Bowie, plein des nouveautés (Placebo, KORN, The Rasmus, Heather Nova, Fixation, Hangman’s Chair, AVATAR), quelques reports de concerts (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, THE LUKA STATE) et le festival Morsure. Bonne lecture et écoute !
David Bowie – Let’s Dance
Musicien, auteur-compositeur de génie, acteur et peintre néo-expressionniste, David Bowie aura fêté ses 75 ans le 8 Janvier 2021. Rock Star visionnaire, icône pop rock d’une créativité hors du commun, son héritage est impressionnant. Cette fois, je lui rends hommage avec Let’s Dance !
Comme on n’a pas toujours le droit de danser dans les lieus publics, dansons chez nous sur ce morceau et son rythme funky, sa guitare fantastique et sa mélodie entraînante qui restent gravés dans nos mémoires dès la première écoute.
La chanson titre du quinzième album studio sorti en 1983 fut un immense tube dans le monde entier et le seul single de David Bowie à atteindre la première place des hits-parades à la fois au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis.
Et n’oublions pas la sortie de TOY (TOY:BOX), une édition spéciale de l’album TOY enregistré au lendemain de la performance triomphale de David Bowie à Glastonbury, en 2000 mais jamais sorti jusqu’à aujourd’hui.
PLACEBO- TRY BETTER NEXT TIME
Après Beautiful James et Surrounded by Spies, PLACEBO dévoile un troisième single Try Better Next Time, extrait de son nouvel album Never Let Me Go prévu pour le 25 mars 2021.
Try Better Next Time est un titre rock électrique, extrêmement puissant et entêtant, un cri d’alarme sur l’état actuel de la planète et la fin de l’espèce humaine rongé par l’orgueil et le narcissisme.

HANGMAN’S CHAIR – Loner
Désormais signés chez le prestigieux label allemand Nuclear Blast Records, HANGMAN’S CHAIR sortira un 6eme album : A Loner le 11 février 2022.
Un album majestueux, profond, émotionnel et torturé. A l’image de sa pochette, A Loner nous propose un regard en plongée sur un sentiment de solitude tenace, existentielle. Celle qui pousse à commettre les pires excès, quand on finit par se sentir trop à l’étroit dans sa peau, et inutile.
Formé en 2005 à Paris, HANGMAN’S CHAIR a peu à peu développé un son unique qui donne au groupe une place particulière sur la scène Doom Metal actuelle. Au fil des années, ils ont trouvé et peaufiné leur propre vision sonore, quelque part à la croisée des chemins entre Type O Negative, Life of Agony et Sisters of Mercy.
Avec ce nouvel opus, A Loner, les quatre musiciens s’éloignent de leur racines hardcore, doom metal et renforcent le côté cold wave, glacial plus accrocheur déjà annoncé sur leur dernier EP Bus de nuit (novembre 2019).
On retrouve notamment des influences The Cure avec la guitare magique de Robert Smith sur des morceaux comme (« The Pariah and the Plague », « Who Wants to Die Old »…)
J’ai eu le grand plaisir de discuter avec Julien Chanut, fondateur et guitariste du groupe et je vous en parlerai bientôt.
Découvrez le magnifique morceau Loner, accompagné d’une vidéo poignante tourné en mode documentaire qui met en scène quatre protagonistes qui ont eu le courage de partager sans fard leurs chagrins, mais leurs espoirs et rêves aussi.
Au sujet de cette chanson et de cette vidéo, le groupe ajoute : “La solitude est dangereuse, elle crée une dépendance, dit le vieil adage. Ce clip n’est pas une fiction, c’est un court documentaire réalisé par le talentueux Kendy Ty.
Dans l’esprit contemplatif du réalisateur canadien Terrence Malick, il a suivi les personnages qui ne jouent pas un rôle – Laura, Sam, Sébastien et Michel – dans leurs préoccupations quotidiennes, leurs luttes contre le monde extérieur, leur vraie vie coupée de la masse. Dans ces situations bien réelles, leur différence et leur exclusion sont leur point commun. La photo du tatouage de Michel en prison parle d’elle-même.
“Don’t waste your time on people, don’t give them anysecond chnace and lock yourself away from anybody”(Ne perds pas ton temps avec les gens, ne leur donne pas de seconde chance et enferme-toi loin de tout le monde). Poignant!

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE- Rainbow Veins
On doit encore patienter pour découvrir en live le 7eme album éponyme des BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.
En raison de la situation sanitaire impactant l’organisation de leur prochaine tournée, le groupe gallois se voit dans l’obligation de reporter leurs dates européennes, dont les concerts initialement prévus à Paris à l’Olympia le 15 février 2022 et à Toulouse au Bikini le 18 février 2022.
Leur passage au Hellfest le 26 juin 2022 aux côtés de Metallica, Sabaton, Black Label Society, Avatar, BMTH est bien maintenu.

NAKED GYPSY QUEENS – If Your Name is New York( Then mine is Amsterdam)
NAKED GYPSY QUEENS a dévoilé un Nouvel extrait de leur EP Georgiana disponible le 21 février 2022 en vinyle & digital via Mascot records.
Leur hard rock old-school aux puissants accents blues, les grooves efficaces et les duos de guitares s’inscrit dans la vague de renaissance moderne du rock’n’roll.
Le quatuor originaire du Tennessee s’est taillé une solide réputation en écumant le circuit des clubs américains. C’est là que les musiciens ont peu à peu réussit à conjuguer leurs influences (The Rolling Stones, MC5, the Allman Brothers, mais aussi Pink Floyd) à des sons son plus modernes, établissant ainsi un pont entre différentes générations de groupes et d’amateurs de rock, qui ont tous en commun une soif d’énergie et la sincérité.
Ça n’est pas par hasard si NAKED GYPSY QUEENS a décidé d’enregistrer son disque à Detroit, sous la houlette de Marlon Young, Al Sutton et Herschel Boone, trio connu pour avoir bossé avec Greta Van Fleet.
La belle power ballad If Your Name is New York est l’un des morceaux que le guitariste Cade Pickering préfère jouer en concert : « Notre chanteur Chris en a composé les prémices avant qu’on le finalise ensemble pour en faire une chanson que l’on estime tous parfaite. Le titre est tiré d’une ligne de dialogue du personnage joué par Daniel Day Lewis dans le film Gangs Of New York. »
AVATAR – Cruel and Unusual
Les infatigables suédois d’Avatar on finit 2021 avec un nouveau morceau : Cruel and Unusual, qui annonce en quelques sorte leur résolution 2022 : d’être plus cruels et plus extraordinaires que jamais.
Nous, on espère qu’on pourra les voir sur scène en France cette année… le 12 février : L’Olympia (Paris), 16 février : Le Transbordeur (Villeurbanne), 21 février : Le Rocher de Palmer (Cenon) et au Hellfest le 26 juin 2022. Croisons les doigts…
THE LUKA STATE – [Insert Girls Name Here]
Après un premier concert explosif à Paris en septembre dernier, on attendait les britanniques de The Luka State de nouveau dans la capitale le 25 janvier 2022. Mais malheureusement le quatuor est contraint de reprogrammer tous leurs concerts. On devrait donc attendre le 12 mai 2022 pour le voir aux Etoiles, Paris. Pour nous réconforter le groupe a annoncé la sortie d’une nouvelle chanson la semaine prochaine Oxygen Thief.

Jonas Hansen - chant, Martin Selen – guitare, Tobias Østerdal – guitare, Martin Gravdal – basse débarquent de Norvège avec un excellent son metalcore mélodique qui combine librement des éléments électro avec des riffs de guitares massifs.
Ils avaient commencé à faire parler d’eux durant l’automne 2020 avec un EP intitulé Global Suicide, qui leur a permis d’être rapidement considérés comme les “espoirs” de la scène rock norvégienne.
Stay Awake est leur nouvelle chanson. Un texte écrit suite aux événements qui ont secoué les élections américaines et, notamment, l’assaut du Capitole…

Heather Nova- Waiting For A Girl Like You
Le 29 octobre dernier, en lançant le titre Waiting For A Girl Like You la chanteuse, originaire des Bermudes, Heather Nova a annoncé la sortie de Other Shores un magnifique album uniquement constitué de reprises acoustiques qui sortira le 26 août 2022.
Ce disque fait suite à “Pearl ” paru en 2019. Si ce dernier était 100% rock et électrique, avec “Other Shores” Heather a clairement décidé d’explorer d’autres rivages.
La chanteuse propose donc ses versions de classiques bien connus, ainsi que de quelques titres que vous n’avez peut-être jamais entendus, mais tous sont interprétés dans une ambiance aussi douce que feutrée.
Ecoutez la superbe version de Waiting For a Girl Like You, la célèbre ballade de Foreigner. Surement Others Shores nous réserve bien d’autres surprises toutes aussi délicieuses ( Don’t Stop Believin la reprise de Journey est aussi disponible.
En mars prochain, on pourra retrouver HEATHER NOVA en première partie de la tournée française d’ASAF AVIDAN
THE RASMUS –JEZEBEL( dispo le 17/01/2022)
Le groupe THE RASMUS annonce sa participation au concours de l’Eurovision 2022 et se sépare du guitariste fondateur Pauli Rantasalmi. Il est remplacé par Emilia Emppu Suhonen.
Jezebel a été co-écrit et produit par Desmond Child, qui a collaboré avec The Rasmus sur leur septième album studio ” Black Roses “. Child est responsable de la formulation de certains des plus grands succès du rock, avec des crédits de co-écriture et de production sur des chansons emblématiques de KISS, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith et Alice Cooper, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.
Lauri Ylönen commente : “C’était génial de travailler à nouveau avec Desmond. Il sait vraiment comment créer une chanson à succès. Jezebel parle d’une fille qui prend ce qu’elle veut, sans demander. Un esprit libre.”

MORSURE FESTIVAL, deuxième édition : le 5 février 2022 A La Boule Noire !
Le 15 février 2020, peu avant que la France soit totalement confinée, l’association parisienne MORSURE organisait la première édition de son festival à La Boule Noire, réunissant une bonne partie de la scène rock émergente parisienne. Vous vous souvenez ? – on a parlé ici !
En 2022, MORSURE annonce la deuxième édition de son festival le 5 février.
Composée de quatre fondus de rock (Sacha, Béa, Léa et Justine), l’association met en valeur la scène «underground » rock française. Une scène vive, créative et aussi bonne que ses cousines américaines et anglaises mais malheureusement boudée de la plupart des gros médias français. Qualité, amitié, entraide, liberté, le tout dans un esprit festif : telles sont les valeurs de MORSURE.
Cette deuxième édition du MORSURE FESTIVAL marquera les quatre ans de l’association. Pour fêter cet anniversaire, le 5 février 2022, sept jeunes groupes à tendance punk ou garage se succéderont sur les planches de La Boule Noire : Dealing For Dimes, ØRA, Gurl, Bilbao Kung-Fu, Dye Crap, The Huile et Cheap Teen.
Une plus grosse tête d’affiche qui sera annoncé courant janvier viendra s’ajouter pour donner un concert exclusif à Paris !

David Bowie – Let’s Dance
Musician, genius songwriter, actor and neo-expressionist painter, David Bowie will have celebrated his 75th birthday on January 8, 2021. A visionary rock star, a pop rock icon of extraordinary creativity, his legacy is impressive.
This time, I pay tribute to him with Let’s Dance! As we are not always allowed to dance in public places, let’s dance at home on this song and its funky rhythm, its fantastic guitar and its catchy melody that remain engraved in our memories from the first listening. The title track of the fifteenth studio album released in 1983, Let’s Dance was a huge worldwide hit and David Bowie’s only single to reach number one on the charts in both the UK and the US.
And do not forget the release of TOY (TOY:BOX) this January, a special edition of the TOY album recorded in the aftermath of David Bowie’s triumphant performance at Glastonbury in 2000 but never released until today.
PLACEBO – TRY BETTER NEXT TIME

HANGMAN’S CHAIR – Loner
Now signed to the prestigious German label Nuclear Blast Records, HANGMAN’S CHAIR will release a 6th album: A Loner on February 11, 2022.
A majestic, deep, emotional and tortured album. Like its cover, A Loner offers us a deep look at a feeling of tenacious, existential loneliness. The one that pushes to commit the worst excesses, when you end up feeling too cramped in your skin, and useless.
Formed in 2005 in Paris, HANGMAN’S CHAIR has gradually developed a unique sound that gives the band a special place on the current Doom Metal scene. Over the years, they have found and refined their own sound vision, somewhere at the crossroads between Type O Negative, Life of Agony and Sisters of Mercy.
With this new album, A Loner, the four musicians move away from their hardcore, doom metal roots and reinforce the cold wave side, catchier, an influence already announced on their latest EP Buse de Nuit (November 2019). We find some The Cure influences with the magic guitar of Robert Smith on songs like (“The Pariah and the Plague”, “Who Wants to Die Old”…)
I had the great pleasure to talk with Julien Chanut, founder and guitarist of the band and I will tell you about this great album soon.
Discover the magnificent truck Loner, accompanied by a great video shot in documentary mode that features four protagonists who had the courage to share their sorrows, but their hopes and dreams too.
The band adds: “Loneliness is dangerous, it’s addictive,” the old saying goes. This clip is not a fiction, it is a short documentary directed by the talented Kendy Ty. In the contemplative spirit of Canadian director Terrence Malick, he followed the characters who do not play a role – Laura, Sam, Sébastien and Michel – in their daily concerns, their struggles against the outside world, their real life cut off from the masses. In these very real situations, their difference and exclusion are what they have in common. The photo of Michel’s tattoo in prison speaks for itself.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE – Rainbow Veins
We still have to wait to discover live the 7th eponymous album of BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE. Due to the Covid 19 situation impacting the organization of their next tour, the Welsh band is forced to postpone their European dates, including the concerts initially scheduled in Paris at the Olympia on February 15, 2022 and in Toulouse at the Bikini on February 18, 2022.
Their appearance at Hellfest on June 26, 2022 alongside Metallica, Sabaton, Black Label Society, Avatar, BMTH is well maintained.

NAKED GYPSY QUEENS has unveiled a new single from their EP: GEORGIANA available on February 21, 2022 on vinyl & digital via Mascot records.
Their old-school hard rock with powerful blues accents, effective grooves and guitar duets is part of the modern renaissance wave of rock’n’roll. The Tennessee-based quartet has earned a solid reputation by scouring the American club circuit. It was there that the musicians gradually managed to combine their influences (The Rolling Stones, MC5, the Allman Brothers, but also Pink Floyd) with more modern sounds, thus establishing a bridge between different generations of bands and rock lovers, all of whom have in common a thirst for energy and sincerity.
It is no coincidence that NAKED GYPSY QUEENS decided to record their record in Detroit, under the guidance of Marlon Young, Al Sutton and Herschel Boone, a trio known for having worked with Greta Van Fleet.

After an explosive first concert in Paris last September, we were waiting for the British of The Luka State again in the capital on January 25, 2022.
But unfortunately, the quartet is forced to reschedule all their concerts. We should therefore wait until May 12, 2022 to see him at Les Etoiles, Paris.

FIXATION – Stay Awake
Did you know FIXATION? Me neither…. you should listen to urgently!
Jonas Hansen – vocals, Martin Selen – guitar, Tobias Østerdal – guitar, Martin Gravdal – bass arrive from Norway with an excellent melodic metalcore sound that freely combines electro elements with massive guitar riffs.
They had started to be known in the fall of 2020 with an EP entitled Global Suicide, which allowed them to be quickly considered the “hopes” of the Norwegian rock scene.

HEATHER NOVA – Waiting For A Girl Like You
On October 29, by launching the title Waiting For A Girl Like You the singer, Heather Nova announced the release of Other Shores a magnificent album consisting only of acoustic covers that will be released on August 26, 2022.
This record follows “Pearl” released in 2019. If the latter was 100% rock and electric, with “Other Shores” Heather clearly decided to explore other shores.
The singer offers her versions of well-known classics, as well as a few titles that you may have never heard, but all are performed in an atmosphere as soft as it is hushed.

THE RASMUS – Jezebel( available 17/01/22)

MORSURE FESTIVAL, second edition: February 5, 2022 A La Boule Noire, Paris!
On February 15, 2020, shortly before France was totally in lockdown, the Parisian association MORSURE organized the first edition of its festival at La Boule Noire in Paris, bringing together a good part of the emerging Parisian rock scene. Do you Remember? – we talked about here!
In 2022, MORSURE announces the second edition of its festival on February 5th.
Composed of four rock lovers (Sacha, Béa, Léa and Justine), the association highlights the French “underground” rock scene. A lively scene, creative and as good as its American and English cousins but unfortunately shunned by most of the big French media. Quality, friendship, mutual aid, freedom, all in a festive spirit: these are the values of MORSURE.
This second edition of the MORSURE FESTIVAL will mark the four years of the association. To celebrate this anniversary, on February 5, 2022, seven young punk , garage, rock bands will follow one after another on the stage of La Boule Noire: Dealing For Dimes, ØRA, Gurl, Bilbao Kung-Fu, Dye Crap, The Huile and Cheap Teen.
A bigger headliner who will be announced in January will be added to give an exclusive concert in Paris!
