Il est bien connu que Seattle est le berceau du grunge. Seattle est la ville qui a vu naître Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Pearl Jam ou Soundgarden. Désormais à cette remarquable liste d’artistes, il faudra rajouter le talentueux guitariste, chanteur et songwriter, AYRON JONES.
Je vous préviens, AYRON JONES est un nom que nous entendrons probablement beaucoup au cours des prochains mois. Car son album Child Of The State sorti le 21 Mai 2021 sur le label du styliste John Varvatos, Big Machine, est certainement un de meilleurs albums de l’année.
Sa musique est un mélange explosif de hard rock, de grunge, de blues et de soul, le musicien n’hésitant pas à s’aventurer même vers les territoires de la musique classique, folk ou pop. Ses influences sont multiples : Jimi Hendrix, son idole absolue, mais aussi Prince, Nirvana, Lenny Kravitz ou Michael Jackson …
AYRON JONES est un guitariste phénoménal et possède une superbe voix tantôt d’une délicieuse émotion et douceur tantôt rageuse et colérique, extrêmement puissante.
Le musicien n’a pas toujours connu une vie facile, les obstacles ne l’ont pas épargné, mais c’est aussi de ces heures sombres de sa vie qu’il tire les inspirations les plus brutes de sa musique, dont les compositions laissent indéniablement des traces… Les événements de ces 12 derniers mois – à la fois aux États-Unis et dans le monde entier – ont eu visiblement une forte influence sur le contenu de Child of the State.
Les 12 morceaux de l’album sont remarquablement bien construits, chacun a son propre solo qui décoiffe. Le ton de l’album est donné par les 3 premiers chansons. Boys From The Puget Sound et sa bonne dose d’énergie et ses vibrations blues rock.
Suivie de Mercy, une chanson directement inspirée des événements qui ont eu lieu aux États-Unis récemment. Comme l’a déclaré AYRON « Mercy est l’aboutissement de tout ce qui s’est passé en 2020. Pas seulement l’injustice sociale, pas seulement le fait d’être noir en Amerique, pas seulement le Covid -19, pas seulement les feux de forêts. C’était tout à la fois ».
«The flag is burnin’, but the world keeps turnin’ »…ou ces mots obsédants « Got me on my knees / too much smoke, can’t breathe »…Un titre fort que le guitariste/chanteur de Seattle a cosigné avec Marty Fredericksen et Scott Stevens, fin 2020, au crépuscule de l’une des années les plus tumultueuses de l’histoire récente des États-Unis. Le texte est poignant et l’interprétation d’Ayron est saisissante.
Le coup de poing, TAKE ME AWAY englobe tout son talent ! Grace de cette incroyable guitare bien sûr, un solo impressionnant qui n’est pas sans rappeler Tom Morello, mais aussi grâce à cette manière de chanter à fleur de peau…
Énergie éclatante dans des morceaux comme Killing Season ou Supercharged ce dernier étant grunge et glam rock à la fois dans le style de Lenny Kravitz. Spinning Circles est tendre et groovy s’ouvrant par un joli passage de cordes et nous offre plus loin un superbe solo qui nous fait penser à Prince.
My Love Remains est une magnifique ballade acoustique couronné d’un solo de guitare une fois de plus sublime. Sur Free Ayron hurle haut et fort sa liberté, Hot Friends est funky avec solo monstrueux, tandis que Emily est une fantastique ballade blues rock avec des riffs bruts et lourds. Take Your Time est un joyau inestimable qui bénéficie d’un solo renversant et clôture l’album avec maestria.
Dans un monde dans lequel on nous rappelle sans cesse que la guitare électrique est morte écoutez celle de Ayron Jones. Elle est bluffante ! Et bien vivante !
Child Of The State est un excellent album, un véritable porte-étendard du grunge et du blues-rock d’une immense qualité Made in Seattle. Avec Child Of The State, Ayron Jones frappe fort et dévoile son génie. Réjouissant !

AYRON JONES is a phenomenal guitarist with a fabulous voice: sometimes full of sweetness and emotion, sometimes angry and extremely powerful. The musician has not always had an easy life, the obstacles have not spared him, but it is also from these dark hours of his life that he draws the rawest inspirations for his music, whose compositions undeniably leave traces…
Also, the events of the past 12 months – both in the United States and around the world – have had a strong influence on the theme of Child of the State.
The album’s 12 tracks are remarkably well constructed, each one having its own breath-taking solo. The tone of the album is set by the first 3 songs. Boys From The Puget Sound– a strong dose of energy and blues rock vibes. Followed by Mercy, a song directly inspired by the events that took place in the United States recently. As AYRON declared “Mercy is a culmination of everything that happen in 2020. Not just the social injustice, not just being a Bleck American, not just Covid -19, not just the forest fires. It was all of it at once”.

The lyrics are poignant and the Ayron’s interpretation is outstanding.
The punchy, TAKE ME AWAY takes in all his talent! Thanks to this incredible guitar, an impressive solo very Tom Morello style but also thanks to his emotional way of singing. Brilliant grunge energy in tracks like Killing Season or Supercharged this later including some glam rock Lenny Kravitz style. Spinning Circles is tender and groovy that opens with a passage of strings and offers us further a superb solo that makes us think of Prince.
My Love Remains is a magnificent acoustic ballad crowned with a guitar solo once again sublime. On Free Ayron claims his freedom loud and clear, Hot Friends is funky with monstrous solo, while Emily is a fantastic blues rock ballad with raw and heavy riffs. Take Your Time is a gem that closes the album with great mastery.
In a world in which we are constantly reminded that the electric guitar is dead, listen to the one of Ayron Jones. It is stunning! And alive! Child Of The State is an fabulous album, a true flagship of grunge and blues-rock of immense quality Made in Seattle. With Child Of The State, Ayron Jones blow us away and reveals his genius!
