Lorsque on parle d’EVANESCENCE, on pense immédiatement à leur premier album Fallen paru en 2003. Deux fois récompensé aux Grammy Awards (Meilleur Nouvel Artiste et Meilleure Performance hard rock), cet album a été un énorme succès dans le monde entier. On pense bien évidement à Bring Me to Life ou My Immortal, ces véritables hymnes du métal gothique ET surtout on pense à Amy Lee, sans aucun doute l’une de voix les plus reconnaissables et les plus époustouflantes dans l’univers du rock et du heavy metal.
The Bitter Truth marque le retour phénoménal d’un groupe au sommet de sa forme.
Le 26 Mars 2021, EVANESCENCE est de retour avec une nouvel opus intitulé The Bitter Truth. Un événement que les fans attendaient depuis presque une décennie. Dès avril 2020, le groupe avait commencé à dévoiler au fur et à mesure quelques chansons qui nous ont donné un aperçu de l’album… Eh bien, The Bitter Truth est tout simplement fabuleux.
Un album passionnant et passionné dans lequel on retrouve avec plaisir l’esprit sombre et hard, l’émotion, une grande énergie et surtout, on retrouve cette voix sublime qui nous a beaucoup manqué. The Bitter Truth marque le retour phénoménal d’un groupe au sommet de sa forme.
Il faut savoir que le groupe a connu plusieurs changements de line up depuis ses débuts et cette formation actuelle semble être la plus forte. L’alchimie entre les musiciens marche à merveille. Avec Amy Lee (chant, piano) on retrouve l’excellent batteur Will Hunt, son partenaire dans la section rythmique Tim McCord à la basse et le duo de guitares qui se complète parfaitement Troy Mc Lawhorn et Jen Majura, cette dernière étant la recrue plus récente.
Le meilleur l’album d’EVANESCENCE à ce jour!
L’album démarre tout en douceur par l’atmosphérique Artifact / The Turn, un déluge de synthés accompagne la voix superbe d’Amy. Une parfaite introduction pourle très théâtral Broken Pieces Shine, un morceau énorme, l’un de mes préférées de l’album. Ici comme sur le titre suivant The Game is Over, on retrouve la lourdeur typique et puissante d’EVANESCENCEavec la rhythmique forte, des guitares superbes et une chanteuse en grande forme vocale.
Yeah Right est assez diffèrent car s’éloigne un peu de la noirceur caractéristique du groupe et sort de sentiers battus avec un registre plutôt pop et joyeux, couronné d’un solo surprenant. Toute aussi différent est Take Cover qui nous ramène vers des sonorités électro – orchestrales.
Avec Feeding the Dark on revient au style EVANESCENCE, la voix plus grave est accompagnée par plusieurs couches instrumentales qui lui confèrent une superbe profondeur. Sur la magnifique Wasted on You la voix est splendide et le rock mélodique à son apogée. Cette chanson a été le premier extrait de l’album et a été accompagné par une vidéo tournée de manière intimiste par chaque membre du groupe sur leurs iPhones alors qu’ils étaient en isolement.
Better Without You est du pur rock brut et dynamique. Use My Voice est le point culminant de l’album, la voix est angélique et le message est très fort. Ne laisse personne parler pour toi ! « Don’t you speak for me ! ». C’est l’hymne de l’empowerment de femmes et célèbre le pouvoir de s’exprimer afin de promouvoir de justice dans le monde. De femmes fortes on pose leur voix sur le refrain de cette chanson, comme Sharon den Adel de Within Temptation, Taylor Momsen deThe Pretty Reckless ou Lzzy Hale de Halestorm.
Far From Heaven est une superbe balade très émotionnelle avec des paroles très personnelles qui met encore une fois la voix sublime d’Amy en avance. Part of me et Blind Belief constituent un final puissant au son rock brut et des passages symphoniques.
Certes, EVANESCENCE a mis 10 ans pour réaliser The Bitter Truth mais le résultat est spectaculaire. Le meilleur l’album d’EVANESCENCE à ce jour! BRAVO !!!

When we talk about EVANESCENCE, we immediately think of their first album Fallen released in 2003. On March 26, 2021, EVANESCENCE is back with a new album called The Bitter Truth. An event that the fans have been waiting for almost a decade. By April 2020, the band had begun to release one song at a time that gave us a glimpse of what we should expect from this fifth album.
Well, The Bitter Truth is fabulous. An exciting and passionate album in which we find with pleasure the darkness, the heaviness and the emotional band’s spirit, a huge energy and above all, we find this splendid voice that we missed a lot.
The Bitter Truth is the phenomenal come-back of a band at the height of its art. Because you should know that the band had several line-up changes since their beginning and this current formation seems to be the strongest one. The chemistry between the musicians works perfectly. With Amy Lee (vocals, piano) we find the excellent drummer Will Hunt, his partner in the rhythm section Tim McCord on bass and the perfect duo of guitarists Troy Mc Lawhorn and Jen Majura the latter being the newest recruit in the band.
The best EVANESCENCE album so far!
The album starts off smoothly with the atmospheric Artifact / The Turn, a deluge of synths accompanies Amy‘s superb voice. A perfect introduction to the very theatrical Broken Pieces Shine, a huge track, one of my favourites of the album. Here, as on the following track The Game is Over, we find the typical and powerful heaviness of EVANESCENCE with strong rhythmic section, awesome guitars and a singer in great vocal form.
Yeah Right is quite different of band’s characteristic darkness with a rather pop and joyful register, crowned by a surprising guitar solo. Further on the album, Take Cover is also unexpected with orchestral-electro sounds.
With Feeding the Dark we return to the EVANESCENCE style, voice is accompanied by several instrumental layers that gives it a superb depth. With the magnificent Wasted on You the voice is fantastic and the melodic rock is at its best. This song was the first single out of the album and it was accompanied by a great video shot intimately by each band member on their iPhones while currently in isolation and directed by P.R. Brown in collaboration with the band through lots of Facetime.
Better Without You is pure raw and dynamic rock. Use My Voice is the highlight of the album, the voice is angelic and the message is very strong. “Don’t you speak for me!” It is a female empowerment anthem that celebrates the power of speaking out in order to promote more justice in the world.
Some badass women lent their voices to the anthemic chorus of this song such as Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation, Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless or Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.
Far From Heaven is a beautiful, very emotional ride with personal lyrics that once again puts Amy’s haunting voice ahead. Part of me and Blind Belief are a powerful finale with raw rock sound and symphonic parts.
Certainly, EVANESCENCE took 10 years to make The Bitter Truth, but the result is spectacular. The best EVANESCENCE album so far! Well done!!!
