Qui se cache derrière Ego Kill Talent ? Eh bien, c’est l’un des groupes rock les plus prometteurs et plus accompli à l’heure actuelle. Originaire de São Paulo et formé en 2014 par 5 jeunes et talentueux musiciens, le groupe a déjà à son actif plusieurs EP et un album éponyme sorti en 2017.
Les 5 acolytes Jonathan Dörr (chant) Theo van der Loo (guitare, basse), Niper Boaventura (guitare, basse), Raphael Miranda (batterie, basse), Jean Dolabella (batterie, guitare) ont été invités à jouer à des grands festivals tels que Lollapalooza Brésil et Chili, Rock In Rio ou Download Festival en France (2017 et 2018). Ils ont également tourné avec les Foo Fighters et Queens of the Stone Age.
2020 aurait dû être leur année de consécration car leur deuxième album aurait dû sortir en mai et ils auraient dû tourner les grands stades et les arénas du monde entier avec Metallica, Greta van Fleet et System of A Down.
Mais la pandémie en a voulu autrement. Enregistré à Los Angeles dans les Studio 606 de Dave Grohl et Foo Fighters, l’album est finalement sorti en trois parties : un premier EP The Dance en avril 2020, le deuxième EP, The Dance Between en décembre 2020 et enfin l’album entier The Dance Between Extremes qui réunis l’ensemble des morceaux sortira le 19 mars 2021.
Difficile de lui mettre une étiquette, The Dance Between Extremes est l’excellent résultat d’un mélange des styles pop, rock et grunge et pas seulement. NOW !,The Call, Deliverance, Lifeporn, Sin and Saint ou Our Song sont juste quelques exemples des morceaux qui illustrent merveilleusement le groove de l’album et l’étendue de leur créativité : des refrains accrocheurs, des riffs heavy, des solos rugueux, des mélodies inoubliables et même quelques inspirations de samba.
Une autre particularité ? Ils sont connus pour échanger d’instrument parmi les membres d’une chanson à l’autre en studio et mais aussi sur scène, désireux de montrer leurs prouesses et maitrise musicale. J’ai eu la chance de discuter via Zoom avec Theo et Jonathan. Nous avons parlé des débuts du groupe, de leur processus d’écriture, du nouvel album, des concerts et bien plus encore !
Comment allez-vous ?
Jonathan : ça va bien, on est sains et saufs.
Theo : on danse entre les extrêmes (we dance The Dance Between Extreme) …
Vous deviez faire une grande tournée en 2020, vous devez vous sentir très frustrés.
Theo : Je pense que le monde entier est comme ça. Je veux dire que peu importe ce que vous faites dans la vie, vous parlez aux gens et tout le monde traverse la même chose. On est très frustrés parce qu’on avait tellement de chose à faire, mais en même temps, on ne va pas se plaindre parce que tout le monde est dans la même situation. On n’est pas spéciaux. Mais on a hâte de reprendre la route.
Parlons un peu de vos débuts, comment avez-vous formé votre groupe ?
Theo : Eh bien, je connais Jonathan depuis environ 17 ans. Il avait un grand groupe ici au Brésil qui chantait en portugais. Nous étions amis et à mon avis, et je ne dis pas cela seulement parce qu’il est dans notre groupe maintenant, mais Jonathan est le meilleur chanteur de rock du Brésil.
Jonathan : Merci mon ami.
Theo : Et pour revenir à ta question, Jean (ndlr Jean Dolabella) jouait de la batterie dans Sepultura et un jour, il a décidé de quitter Sepultura et il m’a appelé et il m’a demandé si on pourra se voir et prendre un café ensemble. On s’est rencontré et il m’a dit qu’il ne savait pas ce qu’il va faire peut-être qu’il va former un nouveau groupe. Il m’a demandé si je joue encore à la guitare et à l’époque, en 2014, j’étais promoteur d’un festival de musique. Donc, j’étais dans l’industrie de la musique, mais je n’avais plus le temps de jouer à la guitare, j’avais tellement de travail, alors je lui ai dit que je n’ai pas joué depuis 4 ans.
Il m’a dit que j’étais fou et il m’a demandé de faire un peu de jamming ensemble. Donc, on a commencé et peu de temps après, on a trouvé un autre guitariste qui a quitté le groupe depuis, mais à ce moment-là avec 2 guitares et la batterie, on a commencé à écrire des chansons.
Plus tard, Rafael a rejoint le groupe pour jouer à la basse et Rafael est un excellent batteur, mais quand il a rejoint le groupe on ne le savait pas. On l’a su le jour quand Jean est venu avec cette idée de riff de guitare et il a dit à Rafa d’aller à la batterie juste pour pouvoir développer cette idée. Rafa est allé à la batterie, Jean a pris la guitare et moi, j’ai pris la basse et puis nous avons joué comme ça. C’est ainsi que nous avons commencé à échanger des instruments. On a écrit cette chanson de cette façon et on a pensé que ça sera bien de garder cette dynamique et changer les instruments entre nous.
Comme on était toujours à la recherche d’un chanteur et je leur ai parlé de Jonathan car j’ai pensé qu’il sera heureux de chanter en anglais. J’ai appelé Jonathan et il est venu à Sao Paolo, on lui a fait écouter la démo complète avec des chansons qui finalement se retrouverons sur notre premier album.
Jonathan a aimé et une semaine plus tard, il est revenu avec quelques idées de mélodies. Puis, je suis allé à Rio et nous avons écrit ensemble les paroles de Sublimated, donc tout a commencé à partir de là.
Jonathan tu as dit oui immédiatement quand Théo te demande de venir ou tu as hésité ?
Jonathan : C’était la première fois que je voulais sortir des sentiers battus. Je savais que je prenais de risques mais j’ai accepté à peu près immédiatement. J’ai dit oui, essayons de le faire pour voir ce qui se passe et c’était vraiment cool. Merci, mec, de m’avoir invité.
Theo : Merci d’avoir accepté.
Qui a eu l’idée de nommer le groupe Ego Kill Talent ?
Theo : C’était Jean et moi. On voulait un nom qui signifie quelque chose. J’ai commencé à penser à « Ego » parce qu’on a tous un ego et on lutte tous avec, de fois il nous fait mal et on a besoin de guérir. Je cherchais ce mot Ego sur Google. Je pensais trouver une image ou un dessin qui pourra nous inspirer. Donc, j’ai trouvé ce proverbe too much ego might kill your talent (trop d’ego pourrait tuer ton talent) dans un artwork et les mots Ego Kill Talent étaient en rouge et j’ai tout de suite pensé que c’est un bon nom, mais je n’ai rien dit. J’ai montré à Jean et il a dit tout de suite Ego Kill Talent. On a regardé si quelqu’un l’avait déjà enregistré et on n’a rien trouvé donc on a dit oui. C’est un bon nom.
Vous avez sorti il y a exactement un an le premier EP, The Dance puis en décembre 2020 ce second, The Dance Between et maintenant, l’album complet The Dance Between Extremes arrive le 19 mars. Comment avez-vous mis tout cela ensemble ?
Jonathan : Tout a été enregistré en 2019 et nous avions l’intention de sortir l’album complet en 2020 mais quand la pandémie est arrivée et on s’est rendu compte qu’on ne va pas pouvoir promouvoir l’album en tournée. Alors on a décidé de replanifier le lancement de l’album et on l’a divisé en 3 parties.
Theo : À l’origine, comme tu l’as dit, on devrait commencer l’année en jouant avec Metallica et on devrait sortir le premier single pendant la tournée Metallica et ensuite on allait aux États-Unis pour faire quelques festivals, puis suivait la tournée en Europe avec System of a Down. L’album complet aurai dû sortir juste avant la tournée de System of a Down en Europe, mais ensuite la pandémie est arrivée et nous avons dit hey qu’allons-nous faire maintenant ?
On a attendu un peu car personne ne savait combien de temps allait durer et puis nous avons réalisé que cela prendra plus d’un an. On a donc décidé de diviser l’album et de cette façon on pouvait sortir de la musique pour les gens pendant la pandémie.
Vous avez parlé de cette façon de changer les instruments entre vous. Comment écrivez-vous une chanson ? Quand vous commencez à écrire une chanson décidez-vous qui fait quoi dès le début et ensuite vous gardez la même formation pour l’enregistrement et le live ?
Theo : La façon dont nous jouons live est la façon dont nous avons décidé d’enregistrer. La façon dont nous pouvons commencer à écrire une chanson peut être très différente. Tout le monde peut trouver une idée de riff de guitare, même Jonathan, qui ne joue pas souvent à la guitare en concerts, mais il arrive avec une idée de guitare et nous allons la développer. Ou si Jean trouve une idée de riff et dans ce cas, il laisse la batterie à Rafa dans cette chanson. Peu importe comment la chanson a commencé ; Et la façon dont on décide qui va jouer à quoi, on le fait après. Parfois, on essaye la chanson avec une personne à la batterie et une autre personne à la guitare et on dit ok, essayons différemment et on change les personnes et à la fin on choisit celle qui sonne mieux. Parfois, on a une ligne de basse et on pense que Jean peut être un super batteur mais aussi on peut penser que c’est Rafa.
C’est très organique en fait. C’est fou parce que si on essaie de contrôler, tout part en vrille et on fout tout en l’air. On a vraiment besoin de laisser aller, pas trop réfléchir, il suffit de voir comment ça se passe.
Qui écris les paroles et quelle est l’inspiration ?
Jonathan : Nous l’écrivons ensemble. On parle de beaucoup de choses dans le groupe. Nous aimons parler de spiritualité, de physique quantique, de philosophie et de toutes ces questions que tout être humain se pose. Écrire des paroles est une façon de résoudre nos problèmes, de comprendre nos problèmes et nos questions dans la vie. Parfois, nous le faisons ensemble, parfois nous le faisons séparément, parfois nous oublions qui a écrit quoi.
Avez-vous une chanson préférée ?
Theo : Pour moi, il est impossible de répondre parce que j’aime chaque chanson. Parfois, c’est difficile parce que certaines chansons, je comprends qu’ils n’ont pas les caractéristiques que vous recherchez pour devenir un single et passer à la radio, mais je l’aime tellement et j’espère qu’aucune chanson ne sera oubliée et on va toutes les jouer live de temps en temps.
Jonathan : J’ai essayé de rester à l’écart des chansons pendant un certain temps et quand je les ai réécoutés, je suis tombé amoureux de nouveaux. J’ai un favori en ce moment qui est Deliverance, mais ça va changer, cela dépend de l’humeur.
On retrouve des riffs heavy mais aussi quelques mélodies pop, on sent que les influences du groupe sont différentes
Theo : Nos préférences musicales sont très variées. On écoute beaucoup de musique ensemble, on ne fait pas que la jouer. De fois on se fait découvrit mutuellement des nouveaux artistes ou peut-être des anciens qu’un d’entre nous ne connaissait pas avant.
Je pense que ce que tu as dit est très vrai, on adore les riffs de guitare lourds et quelques grooves lourds mais on adore aussi les mélodies pop et les harmonies. Je pense que nous essayons d’avoir les deux dans les chansons autant que nous le pouvons et c’est naturel.
Vous avez fait quelques live streams l’année dernière dont le Live on a flat screen qui est d’ailleurs génial ; Qu’avez-vous ressenti pour faire ce genre de concerts sans public devant vous qui chante et applaudi ?
Theo : Merci. Oui, il manquait quelque chose…
Jonathan : C’était bizarre. On a eu l’occasion de jouer en 2020 un concert drive-in dans un grand stade au Brésil plein de voitures. Et en fait, ils klaxonnaient au lieu d’applaudir. On est habitués à jouer devant des gens et pas devant des voitures, mais en même temps on était tellement heureux d’être à nouveau sur scène. C’était vraiment une expérience bizarre mais c’était cool.
Theo : Quand nous avons fait ce streaming en direct, c’était tellement bizarre parce que vous êtes en face des caméras et vous ne savez pas s’il y avait quelqu’un qui écoutait parce qu’il n’y a pas de réaction. Je me souviens quand nous l’avons terminé, nous avons fait cette session de Q & A et j’ai vu des milliers de personnes en ligne. C’était fou car pour nous c’était comme si nous étions seuls dans le studio, mais en fait il y avait beaucoup de gens qui appréciant le concert. C’était comme Big Brother.
J’ai vu votre concert au festival Download à Paris en 2018, et je me souviens de toute cette énergie sur scène et dans le public. Avez-vous des souvenirs du Download à Paris ?
Theo : Oui, de bons souvenirs. 2018 c’était notre deuxième fois au Download Festival à Paris. La première fois on est venu en 2017 et en fait, c’était notre premier show en Europe même le premier hors du Brésil. En 2017, on a joué dans la zone de camping, et c’était vraiment cool. Il y avait des milliers de personnes, tout le monde était fou. Je me souviens de ce gars qui portait un chapeau avec des cornes et aussi que beaucoup de gens faisait du crowdsurfing même si c’était interdit. 2018 a été génial aussi.
Avez-vous des informations concernant les nouvelles dates de concerts avec Metallica et System of a Down ?
Theo : Oui, nous savons que la tournée Metallica est reprogrammée en ce moment. Je ne peux pas dire les dates parce qu’elles ne sont pas encore annoncées. Hier, j’ai parlé avec notre agent et je sais que Hellfest a été reporté et que nous allons le jouer en 2022. Pour les dates de System of a Down, je n’ai pas de nouvelles. Mais c’est sûr qu’on va faire une tournée en Europe en 2022.
Vous avez déjà en tournée avec de grands groupes comme Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, qu’avez-vous appris de ces grands groupes et de leurs shows.
Theo : Il y a beaucoup de choses à apprendre. Sur l’organisation, la production et la crew, sur la performance live et aussi comment traiter les gens. Dave Grohl est un gars incroyable et un excellent exemple pour la façon de se comporter avec les gens. Quand on parle de gens comme Dave Grohl et les Foos, on pense à quel point ils se livrent sur scène, avec combien de passion.
Chaque nuit, on peut voir qu’ils sont vraiment motivés et ils donnent leur mieux et en fin de compte c’est ça qui les connectent au public.
Pensez-vous qu’il est important d’avoir un certain style ou une image sur scène ou dans les vidéos quand on est rocker ?
Jonathan : Oui, je fais des efforts et j’essaie toujours de trouver une tenue vraiment cool, mais je termine toujours avec des vêtements merdiques. J’ai grandi dans les années 90 et j’aime la façon dont ils s’habillaient à cette époque. Quand je m’habille je veux juste être confortable. Je veux juste me sentir cool et moi-même, mais je pense que je n’ai pas un bon style. J’ai l’impression d’être bizarre.
Theo : Oui, mais on fait attention à notre image. Je veux dire Jonathan et moi, on parle entre nous de comment s’habiller mais on se retrouve toujours habillés avec de T-shirts noirs et des jeans. C’est parce qu’on a de tatouages aussi et s’il y a trop d’informations, ce n’est pas bon. On préfère garder nos basiques.
Pour les derniers 2 vidéos que nous avons fait avec des acteurs, on a fait un grand travail derrière en termes de style, comment ils devraient s’habiller, etc. C’est une forme d’expression.
Ma dernière question. Comment allez-vous présenter votre groupe à quelqu’un qui n’a jamais entendu parler de vous et de votre musique ?
Theo : C’est tellement difficile de se décrire…je pense que je vais juste demander est-ce que tu aimes le rock ? et si la personne dit oui, je vais lui recommander d’écouter notre musique. Et parce que les gens ont besoin des références et la personne va me demander à quels groupes ressemble notre musique alors je lui dirai qu’il y a un mélange de Gojira, Sepultura, Metallica, mais aussi Lenny Kravitz, Genesis et Queen parce que nous aimons beaucoup ces groupes. On met beaucoup de passion, d’amour et de sincérité sur ce qu’on fait.
Jonathan : Je suis d’accord avec Théo. Nos influences sont un mix de ces groupes. C’est du Rock !

Who’s behind the name of Ego Kill Talent? Well, it’s one of the most promising and most accomplished rock bands right now. Based in Sao Paulo and formed in 2014 by 5 young and talented musicians, the band has already released several EPs and self-titled album out in 2017.
The 5 friends Jonathan Dörr (vocals) Theo van der Loo (guitar, bass), Niper Boaventura (guitar, bass), Raphael Miranda (drums, bass), Jean Dolabella (drums, guitar) have been invited to play at major festivals such as Lollapalooza Brazil and Chile, Rock In Rio or Download Festival in France. They also toured with the Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age.
2020 should have been their year of consecration because their second album should have been released in May and they should have toured the big stadiums and arenas around the world with Metallica, Greta van Fleet and System of A Down.
But the pandemic decided otherwise. Recorded in Los Angeles in Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters’ Studio 606, the album was finally released in three parts: a first EP, The Dance, in April 2020, the second EP, The Dance Between in December 2020 and finally the full-length album The Dance Extremes which brought together all the songs and which will be released on March 19, 2021.
The Dance Between Extremes is an excellent mix of pop, rock and grunge and not only. NOW!, The Call, Deliverance, Lifeporn, Sin and Saint or Our Song are just a few examples of the songs that wonderfully illustrate the album’s groove and the dimension of the band’s creativity: catchy choruses, heavy riffs, rough guitar solos, unforgettable melodies and even some inspirations of samba.
Another particularity? They are known for swapping the instruments among the members of the band from one song to another in the studio and also on stage, eager to show their prowess and musical mastery. For this I invite you to discover “Live From the Flatscreen“, a great live performance at the Family Mob studios in September 2020.
I got the chance to discuss via Zoom with Theo and Jonathan. We talked about the band’s beginnings, their writing process, the new album, gigs and much more!
How are you?
Jonathan: We are ok, healthy and safe…
Theo: We are dancing between the extremes… we are healthy but we are tired not to be able touring.
You were supposed to have a big tour in 2020. I think you feel very frustrated.
Jonathan: Yes, we feel terrible.
Theo: I think the whole world is like that. I mean it does not matter what you do in your life, you talk to people and everybody is going through the same. We are very frustrated because we had so many stuffs align but in the same time we don’t have to rumble because everybody has going through that. We are not special. We can’t wait to go back on the road and tour.
Let’s start with the beginning, how did you form your band?
Theo: Well, I know Johnathan for many years, like 17 years. He had a great band here in Brazil that sings in Portuguese. We were friends and I know him from that band and in my opinion, and I am not saying this only because he is in our band now, but Jonathan is the best rock singer in Brazil. I already thought this before he came in our band and not that he is in the band now.
Jonathan: Thank you, man.
Theo: So back to the story, Jean used to play drums in Sepultura and one day he decides to quit Sepultura and he called me and he asked me to meet for a coffee. We were already friends so we met up for a coffee and he was like I do not know what I am going to do maybe I will start a new band. He asked me if I still play guitar and at that time, in 2014, I was a music festival promoter. So, I was in the music industry but I did not have time to play guitar, it was so much work, so I told him that I haven’t playing guitar for 4 years.
He said that I am crazy and he asked me to do some jamming together. So, we did it and short time after we found another guitar player that left the band since. At that moment with 2 guitars and drums, we started writing songs.
Later, Rafael joined the band to play bass but Rafael is a great drummer but we did not it. We know it when Jean come into rehearsal with this guitar riff idea and he said Rafa can you go to drums just we can to develop this idea. So, Rafa went to drums, Jean picked up the guitar and I picked up the bass and then we played like that and this is how we started swapping instruments. We just wrote that song in that way and we thought that it sounds good so maybe we should do that.
That’s was how we started our dynamic. We were still looking for a singer and I said I have this friend of mine from the south and his name is Jonathan, he has his band but he sings in Portuguese, so I think he will be glad to have a band and sing in English. So, I call Jonathan and he came to Sao Paolo, we show him that a full demo with songs that end up in our first album.
Jonathan liked the songs and a week later he came back with some melody’s ideas. Then I remember, I went to Rio and we wrote together the lyrics for Sublimated, soeverything started from there.
Jonathan did you say yes immediately when Theo asks you to come?
Jonathan: Yeah, that was the first time that I felt ok, let me think out of the box. I am not gonna play it safe here. But I accepted pretty much immediately. I said yeah, let’s try to do it to see what happens and it was really cool. Thank you, man, for inviting me.
Theo: Thank you for accepting.
Whose idea was to name the band Ego Kill Talent?
Theo: It was me and Jean. I wanted to have a name that mean something. We were looking for a name that even if we do not know is a band, then you look at that name and you say hey I like what it means. I started thinking about Ego because we all have an ego and it is something that we all struggle with and we all need to cure, in the sense that it hurts us and we want to heal.
I was looking for that word Ego on google and I thought that maybe I can find a picture or a drawing that inspires me. I found that saying that too much ego might kill your talent. I was like an artwork and the words ego kill talent were in red. I thought it’s a good name but I did not say anything. I show to Jean and he said Ego Kill Talent. We looked on line if anyone would have registrate, nobody did and we said yes that’s a good name.
You released 1 year ago the first EP, The Dance then in December 2020 that second one, The Dance Between and now, the full album The Dance Between Extremes on 19th of March? How did you put all together?
Jonathan: It was all recorded in 2019 and we had the plan to release the full album in 2020 but when the pandemic situation came up, we realised that we could not promote the album on tour, so we decided to replan our schedule for the launching of the album and we split it in 3 parts.
Theo: Originally, we were supposed to start the year playing with Metallica and then we would release the first single during the Metallica tour and we would go to US to do some festivals, then we would tour with System of a Down in Europe. And we would release the full album right before the System of a Down tour in Europe. But the Covid came and we said hey what should we do now? We waited a little bit as nobody was sure how long will last and then we realized that this will take over a year. So, we decided to slice it and like this, we can release music for people during the pandemic.
You talked about this way of swapping instruments between you. How do you write a song? Do you decide when you start to write a song who is doing what and then you keep the same for recording and play live?
Theo: The way we play live is the way we decided to record. The way we can start writing a song, that can be very different. Everyone can come up with a guitar idea, even Jonathan, who mostly does not play guitar live, but he come up with a guitar idea and we just develop it. Or Jean came up with a riff idea and in this case, he hands up the drums in that song. It does not really matter how the song started; we do not really care as long as we like it. And the way we decide whose is gonna play what, we decide afterwards. Sometimes, we try the song with one person on drums and another person on guitar and we said ok, let’s switch to check it. Sometimes we have a bass line and we think that Jean has super drums on this one as he has the vibe or then Rafa. It is very organic actually.
It’s crazy because if we try to control, to manage it we fuck it up. We really need to let it go, not having too much thoughts, just let’s see how it goes.
Who write the lyrics and what is the inspiration?
Jonathan: We write it together. We talk about a lot of things in the band. We love to talk about spirituality, quantum physics, philosophy and all these questions that all human being has. Writing lyrics is a way to solve our problems, to understand our problems and questions in life. Sometimes we do it together, sometimes we do it separately, sometimes we forget who wrote what. It is very organic for us to do it.
Do you have a favourite song?
Theo: For me, it is impossible to answer as I love every single song. Sometimes is even harder because some songs I understand that they do not have the characteristics you would look for to make it like a radio single, but I just love it so much and I hope no song will be left behind. I really love all of them and I hope we will play every single song live once in a while.
Jonathan: I tried to stay away from the songs for a while and when I get back to them, I fell in love with them. I have a favourite now, which is Deliverance but it will change, it depends on the mood.
Your songs have heavy riffs but also some pop melodies, we can feel that the influences in the band are different
Theo: Our taste for music is very wide. None of us is limited in one kind of music. When we are together, we listen to a lot of music, we do not just play together but we are also listening to music together. We introduce new artist to each other or maybe old ones the someone did not know before. I think that what you said it is very much true, we love some heavy guitar riffs and some heavy grooves but we also completely love the pop melodies and harmonies. I think, we try to have both in the songs as much as we can and that’s natural as it sound. I think we just like those two aspects of music.
You did some live streams last year and also this Live on the flat screen which is amazing. How did you feel to do such kind of concert without audience in front of you singing and clapping?
Theo: Thank you. Right, something was missing…
Jonathan: It is weird. We had the opportunity to play in 2020 at a drive-in concert in a big stadium in Brazil full of cars. They were honking instead of applauding. We are used to play with people in front of us and not cars but in the same time we were very happy to be on stage again. It was really weird experience but it was valid for an experience in our career. It was cool.
Theo: I remember when we did that live streaming, it was so weird because you are in front of cameras and you do not know if anyone is listening because you do not have any reaction.
I remember when we finished it, we did that Q&A on the computer and I could see thousands of people on line. It was crazy as for us it was like we were alone in the studio. All these people were there, enjoying. It’s really weird, it’s like Big Brother.
I remember seeing you on stage at Download festival in Paris in 2018, and I remember all that energy on the stage and in audience. Do you have any special memories from Download festival in Paris?
Theo: Yes, good memories. We came 2 times to Download in Paris. Actually, Download festival in Paris 2017 it was our first show in Europe out of Brazil. We played in the camping area, and it was really cool. There were thousands of people, everybody was crazy. I remember this guy with a horn hat and the crowd surfing. 2018 was awesome too.
Do you have information about the reschedule of the concerts with Metallica and System of a Down ?
Theo : Yes, we know that the Metallica tour is been rescheduled right now . I cannot say dates because it is not announced yet. Yesterday, I had conference call with our agency and I know that Hellfest has been rescheduled and we are gonna play it in 2022.
For System of a Down dates I am not sure if they know already what they do it. If they have rescheduled all the tour or just festivals. For sure, we gonna tour Europe in 2022
You already tour with big bands like Foo Fighters, Queens of the stone Age, what did you learn from these big bands and shows?
Theo: There is a big spectrum of things to learn. It’s from organisation, from production and from crew, from the live performance and also how to treat people. Dave Grohl is an amazing guy and a great example of how to deal with people. When we are talking about people like Dave Grohl and the Foos, we talk about how much they deliver on stage, how much passion. Every single night you can see that they are really enjoying and they connect with people.
Do you think it is important to have a certain fashion style and image on stage and in videos?
Jonathan: I fight with myself because I’m always trying to find a really cool outfit but I always end with some shitty clothes. I grew up in the 90s and I love the way they dress up that time. I think when I dress myself, I just want to be comfortable. I just want to feel cool, feel like myself but I think I do not have a great outfit on stage. I feel like a weirdo.
Theo: Yeah, but we do care about this. I mean me and Jonathan, we talk each other like how to you like this T shirt, etc but we always end up in black T-shirts and jeans. Also, because we get tattoos and if it is too much information it’s not good. We just try to keep the basics.
For videos we care a lot, for the last 2 videos we did, we have actors so it was a big work behind it in terms of fashion, how do they dress and everything. It’s a form of expressions.
My last question. How will you introduce your band to someone that never heard about you and never heard your music?
Theo: It’s so hard to describe yourself so I think I will just ask: Do you like rock? and if he said yes, then I would say please check it out. But if I said do you like rock then the person will ask which bands, they sound like because people need a point of reference, then I will say that there is a mix of Gojira, Sepultura, Metallica but also Lenny Kravitz, Genesis and Queen because we love so much those bands. We put a lot of passion, love and truth on what we do.
Jonathan: I agree with Theo. Our music is a mix of influences from these bands. This is Rock!
