Samedi soir comme tous les samedis de Janvier, j’avais rendez-vous avec AVATAR et le deuxième chapitre de leur série de 4 live streams “An Impossible Concert Experience”.
Après « Age of Dreams » dont je vous ai parlé ici, ce soir on aller tous plonger dans « Age of Ilusions » en compagnie de 5 suédois charismatiques.
5 minutes avant le concert, on voit à l’écran les fans sympathiques qui scandent avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme AVATAR AVATAR depuis les 4 coins du monde.
22h pile, le concert démarre doucement avec le chanteur Johannes Eckerström qui interprète au piano Regret, le premier morceau de l’album Feathers And Flesh. Comme promis donc ce concert sera dédié aux albums Feathers And Flesh (2016) et Avatar Country (2018)
Une fois la chanson finie, le groupe démarre avec les riffs musclés de House Of Eternal Hunt. Ils portent évidement les costumes conçus pour l’album (Ah les chaussettes rouges avec les pompons).
Le scénario est similaire à celui de samedi dernier : les musiciens se déplaceront entre les 4 scènes/salles tout au long du concert. The Eagle has landed et New Land se succèdent tout en force et en headbanging frénétique.
Les autres morceaux de l’album s’enchainent avec Tooth, Beak & Claw et For the Swarm. Johannes très en forme se donne à cœur joie devant la caméra avec des grimaces, des sauts, de pas de twist, toujours accompagné par les autres musiciens avec des headbanging synchronisés.
Un grand Bravo au batteur John Alfredsson qui fera un numéro théâtral et fun – il est en train essayer ses plusieurs kit drums avant de trouver le bon et d’entamer One More Hill.
Black Water sera introduite par Johannes qui nous rappele que beaucoup d’entre nous ont traversé une période sombre ces derniers temps et qu’ils souhaitent nous apporter une peu de lumière dans cette noirceur.La chanson est sombre et bouleversante, merveilleusement interprètée. Les écrans derrière diffusent des images d’une mer très agitée qui lui confère encore plus de profondeur. Night Never Ending sera plus joyeuse et pleine d’energie, accompagnée par des OH ! OH ! OH ! que beaucoup d’entre nous ont surement chantés en même temps que le groupe (desolée les voisins !!)
When the Snow Lies Red et Raven Wine vont clôturer cette première partie volume au maximum. Sur le dernier titre Johannes apparait avec un masque folklorique impressionnant.
Deuxième partie démarre après 2 minutes d’entracte et elle sera consacré à Avatar Country.
Johannes revient au piano pour interpréter Glory to Our King, l’hymne national en “version lounge” pour enchainer rapidement avec Legend Of The King. Le guitariste Jonas « Kungen (The King) » Jarlsby assis sur son trône va exécuter ses solos avec maestria. Les costumes ont changé pour ceux du royaume. Cape somptueuse et couronne pour le Roi, évidemment.
The King Welcomes You to Avatar Country, A Statue Of The King et King Harvest complètent la liste de chansons de cet album concept. Le King salue à chaque fois ses sujets (la caméra!) et ses collègues de bande. Des révérences et des courbettes en retour avec grand respect.
Pourquoi appeler ce show Illusions donc ? Une explication s’impose et Johannes nous la donne.
Les 2 albums qu’ils ont joués ce soir ont été créés à partir de fragments d’imagination, des tranches de fantasmes, des contes de fées, de la magie et de la fantaisie.
Mais finalement l’appeler « illusions » ce n’est pas exactement correct car ces histoires sont devenues une quasi réalité. Les histoires de Feathers and Flesh sont devenu réels grâce à tous ceux qui les ont aimées et gardées dans leurs cœurs, ils se les sont appropriés et ils ont ainsi rejoints le groupe dans ce voyage sombre. Le Avatar Country est devenu un endroit réel, un vrai royaume avec ses citoyens et le restera tant qu’il y a des metalheads. Sans oublier de préciser plusieurs fois que le Roi nous aime et a besoins de nous. Ce discours ne peut qu’être suivi par l’excellent The King Wants You. La soirée se termine tout en heavy métal puissant avec la grandiose King After King.
Voilà un deuxième chapitre d’une excellente qualité : le son, l’image et la réalisation de plus niveau. Un spectacle sans faute, d’une parfaite esthétique avec des musiciens perfectionnistes qui mêlent avec grand maîtrise et talent musique et théâtre, sans aucun temps mort.
Le troisième volet « Age of Madeness », consacré aux albums « Black Waltz » (2012) et « Hail The Apocalypse »(2014) s’annonce apocalyptique. Etes – vous prêts citizens of Avatar Country ? RDV le 23 Janvier 22h.

Saturday night as every Saturday in January, I had a rendez-vous with AVATAR and the second chapter of their 4 live streams series “An Impossible Concert Experience”. After “Age of Dreams” that we talked about here, tonight we are going to dive into “Age of Ilusions” in the company of the 5 charismatic Swedish.
5 minutes before start, we see on the screen the friendly fans who chant with great enthusiasm AVATAR AVATAR from the four corners of the world.
10 p.m. the concert starts with singer Johannes Eckerstrom performing on the piano Regret the opening song of the album Feathers And Flesh. As promised this concert will be dedicated to the albums Feathers And Flesh (2016) and Avatar Country (2018). Once the song is finished, the band started with the fantastic riffs of House Of Eternal Hunt. They obviously wear the costumes designed for the album Feathers And Flesh. (Ahhh the red socks with the pompoms).
The scenario is similar to last Saturday: the musicians will move between the 4 stages/rooms throughout the concert. The Eagle has landed and New Land succeed each other in power, force and frantic headbanging. Other tracks on the album follow: Tooth, Beak and Claw and For the Swarm.
Johannes is fit and motivated in front of the camera making faces, jumps, twist steps, always accompanied by his band colleagues with synchronized headbanging. A big BRAVO to drummer John Alfredsson who will do a theatrical and fun act – he’s trying out his diffrent drum kits before finding the right one and starting One More Hill.
Black Water will be introduced by a Johannes who remind us that many of us have gone through a dark period this past time and that they wish to bring us some light in this darkness. The song is heavy and stunning, beautifully performed. The screens behind them broadcast images of a very rough sea that gives it even more depth. Night Never Ending will be more joyful accompanied by a lot of OH! Oh! Oh! that many of us probably singalong with the band (sorry dear neighbours!)
When the Snow Lies Red and Raven Wine will close this first part with volume at maximum. On the last track Johannes appears with an impressive folk mask.
Second part starts after 2 minutes of intermission and it will be dedicated to Avatar Country. The frontman returns to the piano to perform Glory to Our King, the national anthem in “lounge version” follow up by Legend Of The King. Guitarist Jonas “Kungen (The King)” Jarlsby seated his throne will perform his guitar solos with mastery. The costumes have changed for thouses of the kingdom. Sumptuous cape and crown for the King, of course.
The King Welcomes You to Avatar Country, A Statue Of The King and King Harvest complete the list of songs from this concept album. King greets each time the audience (the camera) and his band colleagues. Reverences and curves in return with great respect.
So, why call this chapter Illusions then? An explanation is required and Johannes will give it to us.
The 2 albums they performed tonight were created like fragments of imagination, slices of fantasies, fairy tales, magic and fantasy. But finally calling it “illusions” is not exactly correct because these stories have become almost a reality. The stories of Feathers and Flesh have become a reality thanks to all those who took the story in their hearts and who joined the band in this dark journey. Avatar Country has become a real place, with its citizens and will stay alive as long as there are metalheads. He tells us several times that the King loves us and needs us. This speech can only be followed by the excellent The King Wants You. The evening ends in powerful heavy metal with the grandiose King After King.
Here is a second show of excellent quality: the sound, the image and the production were at the highest level. A flawless perfomance, a beautiful aesthetics with perfectionist musicians who mix with great mastery and talent music and theatre.
Next Age on 23rd of January will be “Age of Madness” devoted to “Black Waltz” (2012) and “Hail The Apocalypse”(2014) and promise to be apocalyptic. Are you ready citizens of Avatar Country?
