Rock News – Playlist December 2019

HELLFEST line up a été annoncé le 26.11.2019 et la 15 édition s’annonce brulante : Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Airbourne, Volbeat, Sepultura, Faith No More sont juste quelques noms dans la liste impressionnante de groupes qui se produiront à Clisson, France du 19 au 21 juin 2020. Le festival affiche déjà complet depuis le jour de la mise en vente.

HELLFEST a ouvert également fin novembre, Hellfest Corner, un pied- à -terre parisien, dédié à la culture métal à Paris. Allez faire un tour au quartier des Halles !

APOCALYPTICA –Rise

Le groupe de métal finlandais sortira un nouvel album “Cell-0”, le 10 janvier 2020. Le quatuor Eicca T’opinent – violoncelle, Perttu Kivilaakso – violoncelle, Paavo Lötjönen – violoncelle et Mikko Sirén batterie – sont des véritables explorateurs, toujours à la recherche de nouvelles frontières et de territoires inexplorés dans lesquels s’exprimer. Avec cet 9e album instrumental, l’ambitieux quatuor n’est pas simplement revenu à ses racines avec mais ils ont voyagé de plus en plus loin dans l’univers de la musique instrumentale que jamais auparavant. Une superbe exploration classique du métal haute en couleurs. Deux mondes très différents se connectent d’une manière très forte.

Ils se produirons au Zenith de Paris le 7 février en première partie de SABATON.

EVANESCENCE – The Chain
Le groupe de rock, Evanescence, est de retour avec leur premier nouveau titre en huit ans, “TheChain”. Le groupe a enregistré leur version rock du classique de Fleetwood Mac pour le jeu vidéo Xbox “Gears 5“, de la très populaire série Gears of War.

Le groupe travaille actuellement sur de nouvelles musiques originales qui sortiront en 2020 avant leur prochain album studio.

A la fin du mois, Evanescence va jouer au Knotfest à Mexico City, suivi d’une apparition au Download Festival à Tokyo le 29 mars 2020. Après une courte pause, le groupe partira en tournée en Europe et au Royaume-Uni avec Within Temptation. Bien évidement un passage obligé à Paris le 5 Avril Accor Arena.

BLEEKER – Straight For The Money

Vous vous rappelez surement de leur excellent album Erase You et leur explosive single Highway avec lequel le trio canadien, BLEEKER, a conquis la France en 2017. Depuis on attend avec impatience des nouvelles. Il ya eu James Dean, la chanson sortieen été 2018 et voilà maintenant Straight For The Money un morceau dans un registre beaucoup plus pop que les précédents. Ce nouveau single entêtant et énergique à souhait est accompagné par une vidéo très sympathique, avec les membres du groupe en papier mâché animé. La version acoustique a été également dévoilée et le groupe nous promet plein de surprises à venir. Ils seront en tournée à travers les USA avec Awolnation, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness et The Beaches. Et en France, c’est pour quand ?

PEARL JAM – Alive

Voilà 7 ans que PEARL JAM n’a pas joué à France (c’était au Main Square, à Arras…) et 14 ans d’absence sur les scènes de de la capitale. Pas étonnant donc que l’annonce du passage du groupe au festival Lollapalooza à Paris, le samedi 19 juillet 2020 a été un véritable événement ! Une longue attente prend fin pour les fans ! Un nouvel album de la formation grunge made in Seattle sera bien aussi, mais comme on n’a pas encore des nouvelles, révisons les classiques.

BOKASSA – Charmed & Extremely Treacherous  

Les norvégiens de BOKASSA se sont produits en ouverture de Metallica au Stade de France en mai dernier. Entre temp, ils ont sorti un nouvel album CRIMSON RIDERS et ils seront en concert à Paris le 13 décembre prochain/ Backstage O’ Sullivan.

Ils seront accompagnés par le trio anglais PUPPY qui présentera aussi leur album The Goat sorti en début d’année.Venez les voir !

NO-MAN – Love You To Bits    

Le nouvel album du duo de Tim Bowness et Steven Wilson, connu sous le nom de NO-MAN est sorti le 22.11.2019. Composé de deux pièces en cinq parties connectées de 20 minutes (Love You To Bits et Love You To Pieces), l’album combine des éléments pop électro dance et ambient frais et palpitants avec mélodies poignantes et des solos à couper le souffle. Si vous aimez le rock progressif de Steven Wilson, cet album d’une grande élégance sonore est totalement différent mais vaut largement le détour.

BROKEN HANDS: Split In Two

Découvert en ouverture du Badflower le 16.11.19, le groupe de rock anglais, BROKEN HANDS a toute suite attiré mon attention avec leur rock puissant, de riffs énergiques et mélodies attrayantes style Royal Blood. Un groupe à suivre.

TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN – On to the Next

Les américains sont en tournée en France cette semaine ! Pas besoins de vous les présenter car on l’a fait plusieurs fois ici.  Ils seront à Paris jeudi 5 décembre (journée de grève !!!) pour un concert quasi complet. Ne ratez pas donc le prodige de la guitare blues rock TYLER BRYANT et ses acolytes, Caleb Crosby (batterie), Graham Whitford (guitare), Noah Denney (basse)

ROYAL REPUBLIC – Anna-Leigh

Les guitares électrisantes, les rythmes endiables, les mecs les plus délurés du rock suédois et les plus élégants aussi, sont de retour dans la capitale, le mardi 10 décembre 2019 à l’Elysée Montmartre. Un show qui affiche déjà complet ! Ready to dance ?

COUNTERFEIT – It Gets Better

L’énergique groupe de punk pop rock anglais, COUNTERFEIT., découvert récemment sortira un nouvel EP en Janvier. En attendant écoutez le feel good hymne It Gets Better, une chanson sur la guérison, la connexion, l’humanité et la gentillesse. Je ne vous dirai pas plus car l’interview avec le frontman très charismatique Jamie Campbell Bower vous dévoilera plus d’info bientôt.

HELLFEST line up was announced on 26.11.2019 and the 15th edition is hot: Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Airbourne, Volbeat, Sepultura, Faith No More are just a few names on the impressive list of bands that will perform in Clisson, France from 19 to 21 June 2020. The festival is already sold out. HELLFEST also opened at the end of November, Hellfest Corner, a Parisian pied-à-terre, dedicated to metal culture.

APOCALYPTICA – Rise

The Finnish metal band will release a new album “Cell-0” on 10 January 2020. Eicca Topinent quartet – cello, Perttu Kivilaakso – cello, Paavo Lunjunnen – cello and Mikko Sirén drums – are true explorers, always looking for new frontiers and unexplored sound territories. With this 9th instrumental album, the ambitious quartet has not only returned to its roots with it but they have travelled further and further into the world of instrumental music than ever before. A superb classic exploration of colourful metal. Two very different worlds connect in a very strong way. They will perform at the Zenith in Paris on February 7th opening for SABATON.

EVANESCENCE – The Chain

The rock band, Evanescence, is back with their first new track in eight years, “The Chain”. The band recorded their rock version of the Fleetwood Mac classic song for the Xbox video game “Gears 5” from the popular Gears of War series. The band is currently working on new original music that will be released in 2020 before their next studio album. At the end of the month, Evanescence will play Knotfest in Mexico City, followed by an appearance at the Download Festival in Tokyo on March 29, 2020. After a short break, the band will tour Europe and the UK with Within Temptation. Of course, a must-see show in Paris on April 5th at Accor Arena.

BLEEKER – Straight For The Money

You probably remember their excellent album Erase You and their explosive single Highway with which the Canadian 3- pieces, BLEEKER, conquered France in 2017. Since then we’ve been looking forward to new music. It was James Dean, the song released in summer 2018 and now here it is Straight For The Money, a track in a much more pop style than the previous ones. This catchy and energetic new single is accompanied by a very nice video. The acoustic version has also been unveiled and the band promises a lot of surprises to come. They will tour the USA with Awolnation, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and The Beaches. And in France, it’s for when???

PEARL JAM – Alive

It’s been 7 years since PEARL JAM hasn’t played in France (last time it was in Main Square, Arras…) and 14 years of absence on the capital’s stages. No wonder the announcement of the band’s appearance at the Lollapalooza festival in Paris on Saturday, July 19, 2020 was a real event! A long wait ends for the fans! A new album of grunge band made in Seattle will be good too, but as we don’t have any news yet, let’s review the classics.

BOKASSA – Charmed – Extremely Treacherous

The Norwegians of BOKASSA opened for Metallica at the Stade de France last May, they have released a new album CRIMSON RIDERS in June and they will be performing in Paris on December 13/ Backstage O’ Sullivan.

They will be accompanied by the English trio PUPPY who will also introduce their album The Goat released earlier this year. Come and see them! 

NO-MAN – Love You To Bits

The new album of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson, known as NO-MAN, was released on 22.11.2019. Composed of two 20-minute connected five-part pieces (Love You To Bits and Love You To Pieces), the album mix a fresh and pulsating pop electro dance and ambient elements with poignant melodies and breath-taking solos. Discovered live as guest for Badflower on 16.11.19, the English rock band, BROKEN HANDS immediately caught my attention with their powerful rock, energetic riffs and attractive melodies. Royan Blood style. To follow.

TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN – On to the Next

The Americans are touring France this week! No need to introduce them to you as we have done it several times here.  They will be in Paris on Thursday 5 December (strike day !!!) for a concert almost complete. The energetic English pop rock punk band, COUNTERFEIT., release a new EP in January. Meanwhile listen to the feel good anthem It Gets Better, a song about healing, connection, humanity and kindness.
