Party Time with DIRTY SHIRT & Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra – Le Petit Bain, Paris – 29.03.2019

Les rockers roumains savent faire la fête. Et ceux d’entre vous qui étaient présents au concert de DIRTY SHIRT & Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra le 29 Mars, au Petit Bain à Paris, vont surement être d’accord avec moi.

DIRTY SHIRT est connu pour son métal ultra efficace et pour l’habilité de le mélanger avec les éléments du folklore traditionnel roumain. Avec ce concert parisien, le groupe roumain fait largement la prévue qu’il s’inscrit dans la liste de groupes les plus talentueux de l’Europe de l’Est. Récit :

Le concert démarre en trombe avec l’explosif Put It On, le dernier single extrait de Letchology, leur album sorti le 8 Mars 2019.

Sur la petite scène ni plus ni moins que 16 musiciens : les 8 membres permanents du groupe : Dan “Rini” Craciun – chant, Robert Rusz – chant, Mihai Tivadar – keys, guitare, Cristian Balanean – guitare, Dan Petean – guitare, Pal Novelli – basse, Vlad “X” Toca – batterie, Cosmin Nechita – violon, accompagnés par 2 choristes et 6 musiciens traditionnels, tous fermement déterminés de répandre la bonne humeur et de nous offrir un concert inoubliable.

Le show s’enchaine avec les dansantes et festives Fake et Nem Loptam qui font la transition vers le titre plus calme et posé, Hora Lenta.

L’armée de musiciens vertueux nous servent un cocktail excellent de métal moderne agrémenté des touches électroniques, funky, dance et surtout de la musique traditionnelle avec des incursions folkloriques qui suscite l’enthousiasme d’une audience en majorité roumaine (mais pas que !!) et nostalgique venue pour faire la fête comme à la maison. On chante en cœur de la mélancolie et de la joie, des interludes qui servent de transition aux morceaux de métal lourd qui mettent les head bangers dans leur élément.

Émouvants passages au violon : « le violon capte l’esprit roumain » me disait Mihai Tivadar, le leader le groupe, dans l’interview que vous pouvezvlire ici – et il avait raison.

Au milieu de toutes ces ambiances différentes, les 2 excellents chanteurs qui se complètent parfaitement, accompagnés par les 2 jolies choristes et la mini orchestre avec des instruments traditionnels alignée au fond de la scène. Le batteur Vlad se retrouve dans un coin enfermé dans une cage de plexiglas.

Cette collaboration avec de vrais musiciens traditionnels (Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra) insuffle le côté authentique et sincère de cette musique interprétée en roumain, l’anglais, français, hongrois, un melting-pot linguistique aussi varié que les sonorités musicales.

Les riffs puissants se mêlent aux violons sur presque tous les morceaux (Freak Show, Bad Apples, Killing Spree) à quoi se rajoutent des percussions rythmés, synthés et plein d’autres sons différents qui envahissent nos oreilles : flûtes, trompettes, violoncelle. C’est la force de ce live.

Chaque chanson est courte et efficace et on passe rapidement d’un style à l’autre. Put in on – très heavy, Nice Song très dansant ou Cobzar et Saraca Inima Mea très mélodiques, apaisantes, avec des passages acoustiques et chants tristes et mélancoliques, ponctués des fortes rugissements, riffs électriques et beats entêtants.

Magnifiques moments avec la célèbre chanson instrumentale folklorique, Ciocarlia, suivi par l’euphorique Moneyocracy, surpuissante avec des riffs et cris diaboliques.

Rocks off et Maramu’ un mix délirant et intelligent de tradition infusé de heavy metal et la fin avec Palinca qui invite la foule se déchainer une dernière fois dans une danse démentielle.

Avalanche d’émotions pour un public conquis, complément en délire et qui profite au maximum de l’ambiance chaleureuse en parfaite communion avec les musiciens sur scène.

Une symbiose exceptionnelle entre un métal puissant et une musique traditionnelle roumaine aussi riche émanant une joie de vivre débordante et une générosité sans limite. Une audience qui se laissent porter avec l’enthousiasme par la passion de ces artistes talentueux qui vivent à fond chaque chanson. Sourires et plaisir manifeste de faire la fête sur scène et dans la salle.

Avec un set list qui couvre spécialement les 3 dernières albums (Letchology, Dirtylicious et Freak show). DIRTY SHIRT & Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra nous offre ce soir des sensations fortes, une énergie folle, authentique et originale.

Les roumains se sont surpassés dans un concert ravageur, émouvant et ultrapuissant délivrant une méga dose de bonne humeur qui a gonflé à bloc une audience ravie de pogoter sans répit tout au long de la soirée.

Bref, difficile de décrire cette ambiance jouissive avec de mots et des photos, mais la bonne nouvelle est que le concert sera diffusé sur Arte, le 3 Mai, dans l’émission Tracks. Donc ceux qui voudraient vivre l’expérience, à vos télés.

The Romanian Rockers know how to party. And those of you who attended the concert of DIRTY SHIRT & Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra on March 29, at Le Petit Bain in Paris, will surely agree with me.

DIRTY SHIRT is known for his ultra-effective metal and the ability to mix it with elements of Romanian traditional folklore. With this Parisian concert, the Romanian band has definitely proved that they are one of the most talented bands of Eastern Europe. Story:

The gig starts with the explosive Put It On, the latest single out of from Letchology, their new album released on March 8, 2019. On the small stage – neither more nor less than 16 musicians: 8 permanent band members of Dan “Rini” Craciun – vocals, Robert Rusz – vocals, Mihai Tivadar – keys, guitar, Cristian Balanean – guitar, Dan Petean – guitar, Pal Novelli – bass, Vlad “X” Toca – drums, Cosmin Nechita – violin, accompanied by 2 backing vocals and 6 traditional musicians, all firmly determined to spread good vibes and offer an unforgettable concert.

Follows the dancing and festive Fake and Nem Loptam making the transition, to the slower and groovier Hora Lenta.

This army of virtuous musicians serve us a great cocktail of modern metal mixed with electro, funky, dance and traditional music with folk incursions which raise the enthusiasm of an audience formed in majority by Romanians (but not only!), nostalgic to party as home. They singalong the melancholy and the joy, interludes that serve as transition to the heavy metal parts which put the head bangers in their great element.

Moving passages of strings: “the violin captures the Romanian spirit” said Mihai Tivadar, the band leader, in the interview that you could read here – and he is right.

In the middle of all these different atmospheres, 2 excellent singers who complement each other perfectly, accompanied by the 2 wonderful choristers who bring their powerful voices and the mini Orchestra with traditional instruments aligned at the back of the stage. The drummer Vlad is hidden in the corner in a plexiglass cage.

This collaboration with real traditional musicians -Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra- infuses the genuine and sincere side of this music performed in Romanian, English, French, Hungarian, a linguistic melting pot as varied as the musical sounds.

The powerful riffs mingle with the violins on almost all songs (Freak Show, Bad Apples, Killing Spree) what are added rhythmic percussion, synths and lots of other different sounds invade our ears: flutes, trumpets, cello. It is the strength of this gig.

Every song is short and effective and it moves quickly from one style to another. Put in on – very heavy, Nice Song very dancing, Cobzar and Saraca Inima Mea very melodic, soothing, with acoustic parts and sad and melancholic singing, punctuated with the strong roaring, electric riffs and catchy beats.

Magnificent moments with famous instrumental traditional song, Ciocarlia, followed by euphoric Moneyocracy, overkill with demonic screams and riffs. Rocks Off and Maramu’ a delirious and smart traditional music infused with heavy metal. Palinca will invites the crowd to unleash one last time in a demented dance.

Avalanche of emotions for a conquered audience who enjoy the hot atmosphere in perfect communion with the musicians on stage. An exceptional symbiosis between a powerful metal and a Romanian traditional music as rich of boundless joy and generosity without limit. Smiles and pleasure of partying on stage and in the room.

With a set list that covers especially the last 3 albums (Letchology, Dirtylicious and Freak show). DIRTY SHIRT & Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra offers thrills, crazy, authentic and original energy tonight. The Romanians performed an emotional and ultra-powerful concert delivering a mega dose of good humour that got pumped up a delighted audience moshing relentlessly throughout the whole evening.

Briefly, difficult to describe this joyful atmosphere with words and pictures, but the good news is that the concert will be broadcasted on Arte TV on May, 3rd in Tracks. So those who want to enjoy the experience, do not miss it.
