GRETA VAN FLEET – Stunning Rock N’ Roll Lesson at Les Etoiles, Paris – 28.03.2018

Connaissez-vous GRETA VAN FLEET, la révélation rock à l’ascension fulgurante, dont tout le monde en parle ?

Eh bien, les fans de Rock N’Roll qui trépignaient d’impatience devant Les Etoiles à Paris, le 28 Mars dernier, savaient répondre pertinemment à cette question.

Comparé à Led Zeppelin, surtout grâce à la voix l’incroyable de Josh, la formation rock de Michigan remplit les salles partout dans le monde : que ce soit aux USA ou en Europe, tous les concerts de Greta Van Fleet (hors festivals) affichent “COMPLET” !

La tournée triomphale du jeune quatuor : les frangins Kiszka – Josh (chant), Jake (guitare), Sam (basse) et leur pote Danny Wagner à la batterie, passait enfin par Paris.

Disponible depuis le mois de novembre en digital, le double EP « From the Fires » est sorti en France le 2 mars dernier, mais le concert parisien affichait « sold out » déjà 2 mois en avance. La preuve que le bouche à oreille fonctionne bien et que le rock classique, brut, frais, entrainant et sans artifice est toujours à la mode.

Nous voilà donc devant un moment très spécial pourquoi pas historique.

Quand les lumières tombent, le 4 gamins arrivent sur scène timidement, saluent le public avec des grands sourires et s’emparent rapidement de leurs instruments pour démarrer en trombe avec « Highway Tune », leur mega hit au plus de 12,5 millions de vues sur You Tube et qui s’est hissé au Top des Charts Rock US en quelques semaines seulement.

Les premiers accords …la foule réagie immédiatement et Josh envoie dans le micro une voix étourdissante… et tout de suite on est scotché… le son est excellent.

Pantalons en cuir, tunique hippie brodé avec de fleurs dorées, bijoux rock pour Josh, chemise et gilet noirs pour Sam et Danny, t-shirt imprimé léopard pour Jake, le look mi -vintage mi- branché va forcément avec le son.

« Edge of Darkness » suit et là, c’est le tour de Jake de nous éblouir avec un superbe solo, exécuté même guitare sur le dos.

Rock N’ Roll à fond avec « When the Cold Wind Blows » and « Talk on the streets » suivi par « Flower Power » – groovy et apaisante, voix puissante et perçante, Sam s’empare de piano.

Regard pétillant, la gestuelle et l’attitude rock est bien travaillé chez Josh, petit air de Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) croisé avec Roger Daltrey (The Who)

« You’re the one » lente et sublime, calme les esprits, Jake passe en guitare acoustique et Sam au piano, jolies harmonies des jumeaux (Josh – Jake). On a envie de bouger, de danser… on se laisser porter par les vibes des années 70.

« Evil » de Howlin’ Wolf sera la cover de la soirée, même si on espérait (et quelqu’un même le demande dans la foule) « Meet on the Ledge » de Fairport Convention, fabuleuse reprise sur l’EP.

« Lover Leaver Taker Believer », morceau long et psychédélique pour finir : remarquable passage voix – instruments – tous les musiciens sont mis en valeur, basse groovy, guitare hypnotique, batterie forte et prouesse vocale. Echanges des regards et des sourires.

Le public est ravi.

« Black Smoke Rising » et « Safari Song », les moments les plus forts de l’EP d’après moi, vont clôturer formidablement ce show sans faille – mention spéciale pour le solo batterie hyper énergique de Danny sur « Safari Song ».

Greta Van Fleet a mis l’audience à leurs pieds avec un bon mélange blues Rock N Roll, en délivrant un concert impeccable, simple, efficace et enthousiaste.

Une leçon Rock N’Roll de grande envergure reçue de la part de 4 gamins âgés de 18 à 21 ans qui ont déjà la fibre et l’étoffe de grands.

Le Rock rajeuni et nous avec… ça fait un bien fou ! Bravo et Merci !!!

Heureusement, GRETA VAN FLEET sera de retour en France à l’occasion du Download Festival où ils joueront le lundi 18 juin en ouverture de Guns N’Roses et peut être à l’automne dans une salle plus grande. Album en préparation pour 2018 aussi !

Have you heard about GRETA VAN FLEET, the rock revelation with the impressive rise to fame that everyone talks about?

Well, the Rock ‘N’ Roll fans that impatiently were waiting in front of Les Etoiles in Paris, on March 28, knew the answer very well.

Compared to Led Zeppelin, especially through the incredible Josh‘s voice, the rock band from Michigan, fills the venues anywhere in the world: whether in USA or in Europe, all Greta Van Fleet shows (except the festivals) are “SOLD OUT”!

And the triumphant tour of the young quartet formed by the Kiszka brothers – Josh (vocals), Jake (guitar), Sam (bass) and their friend Danny Wagner on drums, was finally going through Paris.

Available since November in digital, their double EP “From the Fires” was released in France on March 2, but the Parisian concert was surprisingly sold out already 2 months in advance.

The proof that word of mouth works well and that classic rock, raw, catchy, fresh and without artifice is still on the TOP. So here it is : an historical moment.

When the lights come down, the 4 kids arrive on stage shyly, greeting the audience with beautiful smiles and quickly take over their instruments and starts with “Highway Tune” their mega hit with more than 12.5 million views on You Tube.

The first guitar chords…the crowd react immediately… Josh sends into the microphone an irresistible stunning voice… and we are just blown away. The sound is excellent.

Leather pants, hippy tunic embroidered with golden flowers, rock jewellery for Josh, black shirt and vest for Sam and Danny, leopard printed t-shirt for Jake, the vintage trendy style works necessarily with their sound.

“Edge of Darkness” follows and it’s Jake’s turn to dazzle us with a superb solo, performed even guitar on his back.

Crazy Rock N ‘ Roll with “When the Cold Wind Blows” and “Talk on the Streets” followed by “Flower Power” – groovy and soothing, powerful voice. Sam takes place to the piano.

“You’re the one” slow and sublime, calm the spirits, Jake on acoustic guitar and Sam plays the piano, lovely harmonies of the twins (Josh – Jake). We move, we dance… carried by the 1970s vibes.

“Evil” by Howlin’ Wolf will be the only cover of the evening, although we hoped to hear (and someone even request it in the crowd) “Meet on the Ledge” by Fairport Convention, fabulous recovery on the EP.

“Lover Leaver Taker Believer” long and psychedelic track, remarkable passage-voice instruments – groovy bass, hypnotic guitar, powerful drums and vocal prowess. Exchanges of looks and smiles. The public is delighted.

“Black Smoke Rising“ and “Safari Song”, my favourites on the EP, will tremendously close this flawless show – special mention to Danny for the hyper energetic solo drums on “Safari Song ”

Fortunately, GRETA VAN FLEET will be back in France for Download Festival where they will play Monday, June 18, opening for Guns N ‘ Roses and maybe they will be back to Paris this autumn. New Album expected for 2018 also!
