Editors se réinvente avec un 6ème album intitulé « Violence » prévu le 09 Mars 2018 chez Pias. Car oui, le groupe catalogué post punk depuis ses débuts, il ya 15 ans, ose le changement avec un nouvel opus qui s’inscrit dans la tendance de l’électro pop.
Les 5 anglais qui ont évolués au fil des albums dans les ambiances plutôt sombres, profondes et mélancoliques développent cette fois des sonorités plus lumineuses, électriques et dansantes.
Les guitares laissent plutôt la place aux gros synthés brutes mais très stylisés et sophistiqués. Les paroles restent sombres, chargés d’émotion et la voix forte et impressionnante de Tom Smith attaque des registres plus diversifiés.
Le changement le plus flagrant est sur Magazine, le premier extrait, morceau pop dansant, refrain entrainant, des chœurs quasi monacales, une chanson qui dénonce les gestes et les attitudes vides des gens au pouvoir.
Cold est l’hymne de festivals, beats, et synthés « It’s a Lonley Life, a long and lonley life » tandis que Hallelujah (So Low) – explosion sonore, refrain entêtant, brut et abrasive, puissant et hypnotique, est un mélange savant de synthés et guitares…une de mes préférés.
Pareil la sublimissime “ No Sound But the Wind” avec ses magnifiques accords de piano et la voix mélancolique “Help me to carry the fight, this road won’t go on forever” est une chanson plus ancienne qu’on a pu ecouter sur la bande sonore de la saga Twilight – New Moon et qui retrouve sa place bien meritée sur l’album.
Violence, titre pas du tout violent malgré le « Baby We Are Nothing but Violence », est plutôt calme avec une fin très forte électro – électronique.
Rythme disco pop sur Darkness at the door, hypnotique et intense, voix caressante sur Nothingness, et avalanche digitale et pop vibes avec Counting Spooks.
Sur fond de violons et des tic tacs, Belong clôture l’album tout en beauté – morceau lent et profond, voix grave, tempo qui monte en puissance… un autre de mes titres préférés.
Conclusion ? Le nouveau Editors est différent et rafraîchissant, une incursion dans un univers musical puissant, hypnotique et hautement évolué d’un groupe en transformation permanente.
Et n’oublions pas la remarquable pochette de l’album très Rodin-esque.

Editors reinvents themselves with a 6th album entitled Violence, due on 09 March 2018 at PIAS.
Considered as post punk band when they started, more then 15 years ago, they change the direction with this new album very electro pop influenced.
The 5- pieces British band who evolved over the albums in the rather dark, deep and melancholic atmospheres develop this time a more bright, electric and dancing sound.
The guitars are often replaced by big raw very stylish and sophisticated synthesizers. The lyrics remains gloomy and emotional while the strong and impressive Tom Smith’s voice attack more diverse registers.
The most obvious sound change is on Magazine, the first single, a danceable pop song, catchy chorus, almost monastic backing vocals, a song that denounces the gestures and empty attitudes of the people in power.
Cold is a festival anthem – beats and synths “It’s a lonely Life, a long and lonely life” while Hallelujah (So Low) – it’s a sound explosion, heady, abrasive and powerful hypnotic chorus, clever mix of synths and guitars… one of my favourite.
As well as the sublime No Sound But the Wind, a gorgeous piano driven song with melancholic soft vocals “Help me to carry the fight, this road won’t go on forever” – which is actually, an older song from the soundtrack of the Twilight Saga – New Moon.
Violence, a track not violent at all, despite the verse “Baby We Are Nothing but Violence”, but is rather quiet and deep song with a very dramatic and powerful electronic end – reminding of Depeche Mode.
Disco pop on Darkness at the Door, hypnotic and intense rhythm, caressing voice on Nothingness, electronic and pop vibes with Counting Spooks.
On background of violins and the ticktocks, Belong closes the album– a slow and deep track, with awesome vocal and rising tempo …another one of my favourite.
My Conclusion? The new Editors is different and refreshing, a journey into a powerful, hypnotic, and highly evolved musical universe of a band in a permanent evolution.
And not forget to mention the remarkable and provocative cover very Rodin-esque.
