Le 26 avril 2023, les groupes JIRFIYA et WEDINGOTH nous ont convié à la PENICHE ANTIPODE à Paris pour une soirée sous le signe du Métal mélodique et progressif made in France.
Avec JIRFIYA vous avez déjà fait amplement connaissance sur notre site grâce à l’interview de la chanteuse Ingrid Denis qui nous avez parlé du groupe et de leur dernier album « W » sorti le 21 février 2023. Un album qu’on avait adoré et on avait évidemment hâte d’entendre live dans son intégralité ce soir.
Quant à WEDINGOTH, j’avais écouté leur dernier album, Five Stars Above, sorti en Janvier 2023et il avait bien capté mon attention. C’était donc une très bonne occasion d’en apprendre plus sur quatuor lyonnais ce soir.
En attendant les concerts, on s’installe tranquillement sur la petite terrasse de la Peniche parisienne située au 19eme arrondissement vue sur le canal de l’Ourcq. Même s’il fait un peu froid, on profite de cette agréable soirée printanière à Paris. C’est le milieu de la semaine et c’est probablement la raison pour laquelle il n’y a pas beaucoup de monde mais aussi peut être le fait que devant la péniche, il n’y a aucune affiche qui annonce le concert de ce soir ! Dommage !
L’heure venu, on descend dans la petite salle du bateau où se trouve la scène. Lumières tamisées, quelques banquettes, l’ambiance est intimiste et agréable.
C’est JIRFIYA qui ouvre les hostilités et les quatre musiciens : Ingrid Denis (Chant), Jérôme Thellier(Guitare/ Basse/ Growls), Nicolas Dumant (batterie) et Sami Kharrat (Guitare) s’emparent avec beaucoup d’énergie de la scène minuscule.
Ingrid est ravissante : habillée en noir, elle porte un cache œil dorée magnifique assorti à d’une jolie et large manchette à la main droite. Elle nous prévient que ce soir, ils vont nous parler de femmes et de la liberté, car justement W est un concept album construit autour d’une thématique très forte et engagée : la condition des femmes à travers le monde.
Mais avant d’entrer dans le vif du sujet et d’écouter le 8 chansons qui dressent les portraits de 8 femmes réelles ou imaginaires, le groupe va chanter en guise d’échauffement, Silently extrait de leur premier album Still Waiting et To Saved extrait de EP Wait For Dawn.
Le son est bon, les lumières ne sont pas très fortes mais on arrive à bien voir les musiciens, sauf le batteur qui est quasiment dans le noir.
Comme sur l’album, Asylum avec soninvitation au Bal de Folles, sera le premier morceaux extrait de W. Superbe interprétation. La voix puissante et envoûtante d’Ingrid, criée ou mélodique exprime la rage et l’émotion. Elle est accompagnée par le chant saturé de Jérôme.
On sent la passion et le désir de nous faire comprendre le message de leurs chansons. Les morceaux de W s’enchainent en ordre aléatoire et à chaque fois, Ingrid nous donnera une petite explication sur la thématique abordée. The Girls with the Perfect Face et The Factory révéleront notamment la complexité des arrangements et le talent de chaque musicien.
Les riffs sont tranchants, on assite à des solos ou des duels des guitares complice de Sami et Jérôme, les rythmiques sont soutenus et les mélodies accrocheuses.
Les touches jazzy et orchestrales, les trompettes et les violons qu’on trouve sur l’album seront aussi présents grâce à des samples joliment insérés.
Il ya une belle dynamique et alchimie entre les musiciens sur scène et des nombreux échanges avec le public.
Les mots nous interpellent, les mélodies et les longs passages instrumentales nous ensorcellent, JIRFYIA délivre ce soir un show bien maitrisé qu’on a vivement apprécié.
Une petite pause et c’est le tour de WEDINGOTH de monter sur scène.
La chanteuse Céline Staquet, Steve Segarra à la guitare, le batteur Stéphane Rochas et bassiste Manon Fortin, le quatuor est un projet musical basé sur l’ouverture, le mélange des styles, dont le credo revendiqué est l’éclectisme. Et le on comprend bien des premiers morceaux, car le groupe allie la puissance du rock- métal avec des ambiances atmosphériques, cosmiques.
La sonorisation est bonne et l’éclairage discret et minimaliste. En fond de scène un écran montre images animées ou des textes en rapport avec les chansons. Les musiciens comme le public semblent un peu timides mais ça ira mieux après les premiers morceaux. Le groupe exprime sa joie d’être à Paris et remercie plusieurs fois JIRFYIA de les avoir invités.
Le groupe démontre les registres très variées, puissantes et mélodiques, dont les enchainements créent une très belle ambiance très variée. On plonge rapidement dans un univers onirique séduisant clair-obscur.
On retient notamment les soli enflammés de Steve Segarra et la magnifique voix claire et chargé d’émotion de Céline Staquet. La section rythmique est solide confère le tempo captivant.
Malheureusement, le public n’est pas nombreux. On a même l’impression la salle s’est un peu vidée après JIRFYIA mais les acclamations des ceux qui sont présents sont très enthousiastes. Le groupe est très souriant et communicatif et essaie de réchauffer ce public qui reste un peu en retrait.
Néanmoins à l’annonce du dernier morceaux les ovations sont plus fortes, signe qu’on n’a pas envie que ça se termine.
Je retiens le morceau LOVE qui exprime beaucoup d’émotion, la superbe interprétation de Céline sur Time et The Painter une chanson très complexe avec un excellent solo et une très bonne rythmique et qui met en valeur le talent de chaque musicien.
Un show équilibré, un son épuré d’une grande qualité, une très bonne technicité, des mélodies accrocheuses et un chant hypnotisant, WEDINGOTH, nous offre ce soir une belle prestation.
Voila un tres belle soirée métal offerte par deux goupes remarquables, menés par deux superbes voix féminines. Merci et Bravo à JIRFIYA et WEDINGOTH !

On April 26, 2023, JIRFIYA and WEDINGOTH invited us to the PENICHE ANTIPODE in Paris for an evening under the sign of melodic and progressive metal made in France.
We already introduced you JIRFIYA, thanks to the interview of the singer Ingrid Denis who told us about the group and their latest album “W” released on February 21, 2023. An album that we loved and we were obviously looking forward to hearing it live tonight.
As for WEDINGOTH, few days before the show I had listened to their latest album, Five Stars Above, released in January 2023 and it had captured all my attention, so it was a very good opportunity to learn more about the Lyon quartet tonight.
While waiting for the concerts, we sit quietly on the small terrace of the Parisian Peniche located in the 19th arrondissement overlooking the Canal de l’Ourcq.
Even if it’s a little cold, we enjoy this pleasant spring evening in Paris. It’s the middle of the week and that’s probably why there aren’t many people but also maybe because in front of the houseboat, there is no poster announcing tonight’s concert! Too bad!
When the time comes, we go down to the small room of the boat where the stage is located. Cosy lights, a few benches, the atmosphere is intimate and pleasant.
It is JIRFIYA who opens the hostilities and the four musicians: Ingrid Denis (Vocals), Jérôme Thellier (Guitar / Bass / Growls), Nicolas Dumant (drums) and Sami Kharrat (Guitar) seize with great energy the tiny scene
Ingrid is charming: dressed in black, she wears a beautiful golden eye patch matched with a beautiful and wide cuff on her right arm. She warns us that tonight, they will talk to us about women and freedom, because precisely, W is a concept album built around a very strong and committed theme: the condition of women around the world.
But before getting to the heart of the matter and listening to the 8 songs that draw the portraits of 8 real or imaginary women, the group will sing as a warm-up, Silently from their first album Still Waiting and To Saved out of their first EP, Wait For Dawn.
The sound is good, the lights are not very strong but we can see the musicians well, except the drummer who is almost in the dark.
As on the album, Asylum with its invitation to the Bal de Folles, will be the first song performed from W. Superb interpretation. Ingrid’s powerful and haunting voice, shouted or melodic, expresses rage and emotion. It is accompanied by the growls of Jerome.
We feel the passion and the desire to make us understand the message of their songs. The other songs of W are performed in random order and each time, Ingrid will give us a little explanation on the theme and the women portrait that talks about. The Girls with the Perfect Face and The Factory will reveal the complexity of the arrangements and the talent of each musician.
The riffs are sharp, beautiful guitar solos or Sami and Jerome duels, the drums are sustained and the melodies catchy. The jazzy and orchestral touches, trumpets and violins found on the record will also be present thanks to beautifully inserted samples.
There is a great dynamic and alchemy between the musicians on stage and many exchanges with the audience.
The words challenge us, the melodies and the long instrumental passages mesmerises us, JIRFYIA delivers tonight a well mastered show that we greatly appreciated.
A short break and it’s WEDINGOTH‘s turn to go on stage. The singer Céline Staquet, Steve Segarra on guitar, the drummer Stéphane Rochas and bassist Manon Fortin, the quartet is a musical project based on openness, the mixture of styles, whose claimed credo is eclecticism. And we understand it from the first songs, the band combines the power of rock-metal with cosmic atmospheres.
The sound is good and the lighting discreet and minimalist. In the background a screen shows animated images or texts related to the songs. The musicians and the audience seem a little shy but it will get better after the first songs.
The band expresses its joy to be in Paris and thanks JIRFYIA several times for inviting them.
The group demonstrates the very varied, powerful and melodic registers, whose sequences create a very beautiful and varied atmosphere. We quickly plunge into a dreamlike universe seductive chiaroscuro. We remarked in particular the fiery solos of Steve Segarra and the magnificent clear and emotional voice of Céline Staquet. The rhythm section is solid and bring the captivating tempo.
Unfortunately, the audience is not large. We even have the impression that the room has emptied a little after JIRFYIA but the cheers of those present are very enthusiastic.
The group is very smiling and communicative and tries to warm up a little this audience that remains behind. Nevertheless, at the announcement of the last song the ovations are stronger signs that we do not want it to end.
I noted the song LOVE which expresses a lot of emotion, the superb interpretation of Celine on Time and The Painter, a very complex song with an excellent solo and a remarkable rhythm and which highlights the talent of each musician.
A balanced show, a refined sound of great quality, a very good technicality, catchy melodies and a mesmerizing singing, WEDINGOTH, offers us tonight a beautiful performance.
