Le 14 février 2020, le quatuor Canadian BRKN LOVE a sorti un excellent premier album éponyme chez Spinefarm Records. Le groupe de rock alternatif crée par le jeune Justin Benlolo est une vraie révélation. Mon nouveau groupe préféré. Et vous allez comprendre pourquoi. Du vrai rock, une voix exceptionnelle, des énormes guitares, une batterie et basses incroyablement énergétiques, bref tous les ingrédients réunis pour tomber rapidement sur le charme. Découvrons-le !

Les 4 premiers morceaux cassent la baraque !!! I can’t Lie, le titre d’ouverture est hypnotisant et électrique. Le morceau suivant, le groovy I See Red est plein d’émotion et passion. L’explosif Shut Down révèle un rock énergique et brut, des fantastiques riffs abrasifs accompagnés de grands hurlements « Shot down in the bottom of the Valley ». Ce morceau déboite et nous fait penser à Led Zeppelin. Files in the Honey est d’une qualité exceptionnelle – la guitare est grandiose, des riffs accrocheurs et le son encore plus lourd. Du punchy façon Royal Blood !!!
L’empreinte du producteur Joel Hamilton (Highly Suspect, Pretty Lights) avec qui le groupe a travaillé est bien là. Le son est parfait et rafraîchissant.
Beaucoup d’émotion et d’angoisse avec Papercut et Toxic Twin chantés avec passion, la voix écorchée. Oxygene est une vraie bouffée d’oxygène, plus lente qui montre une autre facette de la voix impeccable de Benlolo.
Le morceau final, In Your Hands, met en valeur (encore une fois !) des capacités vocales excellentes sur des riffs impressionnants.
Toutes les chansons sont construites sur des riffs solides, une voix puissante et des refrains grandioses. Et ce qui est remarquable – chaque chanson est différente à sa façon, le tempo varie vraiment d’un morceau à l’autre.
Les paroles sont émotionnelles et sombres ; elles traitent du monde actuel : perdre le contact avec la réalité et avec soi-même (I Can’t Lie), la toxicomanie (Flies in the Honey), l’amour et des cœurs brises (Papercut).

L’album a été justement enregistré en direct sur bande en studio, pour préserver le côté brut et authentique. Ces garçons ont l’air d’avoir déjà une grande expérience et ne laissent rien au hasard dans leur créativité. L’album est impeccable, sans faille, remarquablement abouti. Clairement, un régal.

On February 14, 2020, the Canadian band, BRKN LOVE, released an excellent self-titled debut album at Spinefarm Records. The alternative rock band formed by the young Justin Benlolo is a real revelation. My new favourite band! And you’ll understand why. Real rock sound, an exceptional voice, huge guitars, an incredibly energetic drums and bass lines, all the ingredients combined to quickly fall in love with that sound. Let’s find out more!

The first four tracks are breath-taking!!! I can’t Lie, the opening title is mesmerizing and electric. The next one, I See Red is groovy, full of emotion and passioned. The explosive Shut Down reveals an energetic and raw sound, fantastic abrasive riffs, accompanied by big howls “Shot down in the bottom of the Valley”. This song reminds us of Led Zeppelin. Files in the Honey is no less – the guitar is big; the riffs are catchy and the sound is heavy! Royal Blood punchy style!
The imprint of producer Joel Hamilton (Highly Suspect, Pretty Lights) with whom the band has worked is present. The sound is perfect and refreshing.
A lot of emotion and angst with Papercut and Toxic Twin sung with passion. Oxygen is a real breath of oxygen with its slower tempo which shows another facet of Benlolo’s impeccable voice.
The final track, In Your Hands, shows (again!) excellent vocal abilities and impressive riffs. All songs are built on solid riffs, a powerful voice and grandiose choruses. And what’s remarkable – each song is different; the tempo and song structure really varies from one song to another.
The lyrics are emotional and dark; they deal with the present world: losing contact with reality and with oneself (I Can’t Lie), drugs addiction (Flies in the Honey), love and broken hearts (Papercut).
BRKN LOVE is part of this new generation of alternative rock bands that keep a raw and sincere sound while adding an incredible touch of genius. The album was recorded live on tape in the studio, to preserve the raw and authentic side. These boys already seem to have a great experience and leave nothing to chance in their creativity. The album is impeccable, flawless, remarkably accomplished. A delight.
