Last Friday, I went to Les Etoiles to see (finally!) my great coup de coeur band in this moment, the Canadians – Bleeker.
So, their crazy Parisian one week promotion (see the previous post with the interview!) ended as it should: with a show case on the small stage of the Parisian Cabaret-Club and that I’m really starting to love.
In opening, the British trio Cortes, a very nice discovery. A mix of punk garage rock with some groovy accents. Powerful voice and raging guitars. A very short show, but excellent sound. I keep in mind one song Facing My Fear and arriving home I listen to their EP – Top! To follow!
Bleeker: Taylor Perkins (singer), Cole Perkins (guitar) Mike VanDyk (bass) accompanied by drummer Chris Dimar take over the tiny stage at 9 pm and engage us in an explosive show from the very first line of Free.
It’s catchy, captivating and quickly the audience is carried in a wave of craziness by their dynamic, fresh, joyful and dancing rock, exactly as we love it.
Swirl of energy, Taylor is a phenomenon. He covers all the stage and magnetize all attention. He plays with the microphone, jumps, throws himself on the floor, on his knees, strikes a pose, communicates with the audience and smiles all the time. It’s utterly contagious!!!
Perfect control of his blues rock slightly hoarse voice, eye contact with everyone, he is offering a festival of fun faces and great smiles. In a few minutes, everyone lies at his feet.
He leads the public, he asked them to dance, clap, sing, giving them even the right to a few “Oh Yeah” into his microphone.
Boundless energy and charisma, a SHOWMAN is born.
Obvious complicity with Cole, his brother and excellent duets and harmonies on some tracks.
Cole, cheerful smile too, he is a little bit behind the stage at the beginning but he let him go from time to time in some crazy head banging. Excellent guitar playing: sparkling and noisy riffs.
Mike is calm, awesome and graceful on bass, perfect beat. And he sings, also in complicity with Taylor or headbanging with Cole.
And not to forget, the great drummer Chris Dimas and his magical sticks.
They played almost all tracks of their album (but not Close My Eyes!!!) and also some tracks of Bleeker Ridge period (the band they formed before with the 2 brothers Steinke and with whom they have released 2 albums: Small town Dead in 2010 and Four in 2013)
Erase you dazzles me, totally blew me away. Already my favorite on the album, on stage is even more magical. Mesmerized and somber rhythm – Superb duo Taylor – Cole, awesome powerful rock voice of Taylor, Cole’s furious stunning riffs crossing Mike‘s impeccable bass. I think Led Zeppelin.
Beautiful ballad I’m not laughing now in acoustics guitar, Taylor’s slightly nasal clear blues-rock voice and again complicity of the two brothers…
And of course, the effervescent Highway, that everyone has been waiting for with big impatience. Even more incandescent on stage then on the record. Taylor introduce the band( “mon frere” in French). He also did not forget to thank Oui FM for the song’s heavy rotation on the radio.
The excellent Where’s your money and Radio Radio come at the end of this fantastic, but very short set.
A show intense, effective, genuine, honest and without artifice, which comes from the heart and goes straight to the heart. Positive Vibes!
Bleeker are young, beautiful and full of talent.
Certainly, they took the Highway to success and keep running in a fast and furious high speed mode. BRAVO!
To see them again URGENTLY.
We left Les Etoiles (the Stars) eyes full of stars and big smiles on our faces. You cannot see, but I still keep it. That smile!

Vendredi dernier, direction les Etoiles pour voir (enfin !!!) le trio Canadian –Bleeker- mon gros coup de cœur musical, dont je vous ai parlé ici plusieurs fois.
Leur folle escapade promo (voir l’interview du post precedent) se terminait donc, comme il se doit, avec un show case sur la petite scène du club aux allures de théâtre- cabaret parisien que je commence vraiment à aimer.
En ouverture, le trio britannique Cortes, une très belle découverte, un mélange de punk rock garage avec des accents groove. Voix puissante et guitares enragées… Un show très court, mais excellent sound. Je retiens 1 chanson Facing My fear et en arrivait à la maison j’écoute leur EP . Vraiment Top ! A suivre.
Bleeker : Taylor Perkins (chanteur), Cole Perkins (guitare) Mike VanDyk (basse) accompagnés par le batteur Chris Dimar prennent d’assaut la scène minuscule vers 21h et ils nous embarquent dès les premiers d’accord de Free dans un concert explosif.
C’est catchy, envoutant et rapidement le public est porté dans un tourbillon d’énergie par leur rock dynamique, joyeux, dansant et sulfureux, exactement comme on l’aime.
Véritable pile électrique Taylor est un phénomène. Il prend tout la scène et attire tous les regards. Il s’empare du micro, sautille, se jette par terre, à genoux, se couche, se relevé, prend des poses, communique avec le public et sourit tout le temps. C’est carrément contagieux !
Maitrise parfaite de sa voix blues rock légèrement rauque, il croise les regards de tout le monde dans un festival de mimiques et superbes sourires. En quelque minutes met tout l’audience à se pieds.
Il entraine le public avec lui, il leur demande de danser, applaudir, chanter, en leur donnant même le droit à quelques « Oh yeah » dans son micro. Devant la scène des regards sont pétillants.
Complicité évidente avec Cole, son frère. Excellents duos sur quelques morceaux.
Energie débordante et charisme, un SHOWMAN est né.
Cole, très souriant, un peu en retrait au début, il se lâchent de temps en temps en head banging à fond en tout complicité avec Taylor et Mike. Excellent jeu de guitare : riffs ravageurs et noisy.
Mike gracieux à la basse, garde le rythme à la perfection et s’incruste de temps en temps au chant aussi, entrainé par Taylor qui lui tend le micro.
A noter également la très bonne prestance de Chris Dimas à la batterie, qui comme tout batteur, se retrouve un peu en pénombre mais maitrise bien se baguettes magiques.
Ils ont joué la quasi-totalité de leur album (Helas manque Close My Eyes) mais aussi quelques morceaux de l’époque Bleeker Ridge (le groupe qu’ils formait avant, avec les frères Steinke et avec qu’ils ont sorti ensemble 2 albums Small town Dead in 2010 and Four in 2013).
Erase you me met carrément chaos. Déjà ma favorite sur l’album, sur scène c’est magique. Rythme envoutant et ténébreux –superbe duo voix Taylor – Cole, grattage endiablé de Cole, voix rock super puissante de Taylor et basse impeccable de Mike. Là, je pense Led Zeppelin…
I’m not lauging now jolie balade en guitare acoustique, voix blues rock claire, appuyée, légèrement nasale. Encore complicité des deux frères…
Et bien sûr, l’effervescente Highway, que tout le monde attendait avec impatience. Encore plus incandescente sur scène que sur l’album. Taylor présente ses acolytes (“mon frère” en français).
Il n’oublie pas de remercier Oui FM pour le passage intensif du morceau sur les ondes de la radio rock.
Les excellents Where’s your money et Radio Radio arrivent à la fin de ce fantastique mais très court concert.
Un show intense, efficace, authentique, honnête et sans artifice, qui vient du cœur et va droit au cœur. Positives Vibes !
Bleeker sont jeunes, beaux et bourrés de talent.
Décidément, ils ont pris l’autoroute (Highway!!!) du succès et filent à tout allure en mode high speed. A revoir en toute URGENCE.
On reparte les yeux plein d’Etoiles et de grands sourires émerveillés.Vous ne pouvez pas le voir, mais moi, je le garde encore. Ce sourire.
