Once again, we migrated to the north for the summer festivals. Definitely, we fell in love with Scandinavia, after Stockholm in 2014, Aarhus was an evidence this year, even if I did not know too many things about this Danish city. But it is not every year, we can find Placebo and Interpol on same line-up and if we add The Black Keys, George Ezra, Grace Jones, Alt J, Ben Howard or The Jesus and Mary Chain, North Side festival is a must .
Well, except the fact that it was a rather November festival with rain coats and boots then a summer one, the rest was absolutely amazing.
Aarhus, at first sight, is a quiet university city, it is very important for the musical history in Denmark. Starting with famous Jazz clubs in the 50’s, it becomes more and more the center of all kind of Music in Denmark – they have a Reggae festival, Jazz festival, International guitar festival and even Denmark Ugliest Festival (underground and experimental music )
NorthSide festival held every June, it’s a young festival created in 2010 as a one day event but it has grown very fast, 2 days in 2011 and already 3 days in 2012. Every year, major bands played here: Suede, Artic Monkeys, Keane, Phoenix, Franz Ferdinand, Queen of the Stone Age, Kasabian, Snow patrol as well as a wide array of Danish artists.
The location the festival is not very far from the downtown city, so everybody is walking or biking. That’s well organized, food and drink for all tastes, big spaces, art work, funny wooden sculptures, or book sculpture – obviously, it’s a green, innovating, sustainable festival.
There are 3 stages – the Green, the Blue and the P6 beat, very easy to move between.
Public is young, nice and joyful, not a surprise as here in Aarhus, there is the largest Scandinavian University, so students are about 13 % of population .
Arriving on Friday, very late, we just catch part of Grace Jones show, who is still so amazing on stage.
Saturday, it was an all-day impossible cold awful rain.
Placebo plays at the end of the evening, so we just go on the festival site 1 hour before the show, time to listen some good The Jesus and Mary Chain. Still raining cats and dogs, we are so close of stage, that I almost start to panic!!! The show starts: amazing lights, excellent sound, the ambiance is heated. They are surprised that we stay to see them under such a terrible rain, so they give their best.
B3, For what is worth, Black Eyed , Meds, Every you and Every me , LLL, Too Many Friends, One of a kind, Special K … A million little pieces (non Placebo, you did not lost your spark, there is still glowing in the dark ). Almost everything is there, one song after another, higher and higher the voltage, the tension, they really deliver one of a kind fantastic show.
The rain drops are so heavy that it is almost impossible to take pictures, and also the security staff looks not very happy to let us using cameras, hmm…
Amazing show, we almost forget that we are wet from head to toe and the feet are blocked in something like liquid mud …
What to say, that it was probably one of the best Placebo show I have ever seen, rain above our heads and rain of magnetic guitars, drums, piano and violin on the stage. Thank you!
Sunday, finally the sun in the sky, strong cold wind, but big motivation for Interpol and The Black Keys.
The festival site looks Ok after the terrible rain, almost dry and people are happier to enjoy a sunny day. Here again, just 5 meters in front of the stage for Interpol.
The show started, they look lovely in this almost sunset light. The perfect punk indie rock machine is running fast. Exquisite voice, sharp crying riff guitars, powerful drums and bass, even in open air festival they sound fabulous, flawless, like on the CD.
Angels, Anywhere, Narc , still no Public Pervert but an incredible New, an excellent Evil, a superb Stella, no Leif but fantastic PDA, brilliant All the rage, Everything is wrong, Cruise, Jail, Slow , everything comes together so quickly, and suddenly stop… Bewitched, addicted, it’s a dream, I cannot believe – it’s already finished – but, yes, this is festival show…one hour.
Awesome, fascinating… same as always – spreading their good vibes, they are on Top. This was the last show in Europe before August. The Kings of New York conquered the Kingdom of Denmark. Hamlet, watch out…

Now, 2 more hours till The Black Keys, and it’s getting colder and colder but we heat with hot strong coffee and the beautiful Ben Howard show.
And finally, the Black Keys energetic blues rock beat vibrates and motivates the huge beautiful crowd – everyone is dancing, explosive party, feet are still moving. The show is fantastic from the beginning to the end. Wonderful end of the festival.

Une fois de plus, nous avons migré vers le Nord pour les festivals d’été. Certainement, nous sommes tombés amoureux de la Scandinavie.Après Stockholm en 2014, Aarhus est évidence cette année, même si je ne savais pas trop de choses sur cette ville danoise.
Mais ce n’est pas chaque année que nous pouvons trouver Placebo et Interpol sur même line-up, et si l’on y ajoute The Black keys, George Ezra, Grace Jones, Alt J, ou le Jésus et Mary Chan, Nort Side Festival est un Must.
Eh bien, hormis le fait que c’était plutôt un festival de novembre avec imperméables et bottes qu’un festival d’été, le reste a été absolument incroyable.
Aarhurs, à première vue est une paisible ville universitaire mais elle a été très importante pour l’histoire de la musique au Danemark. En commençant par les célèbres clubs de Jazz dans les années 50, elle est devenue le centre de tout les genreq de musique au Danemark – ils ont un festival Reggae, le festival de Jazz, le festival International de guitare, même un festival appelé Denmark ugliest Festival ( le festival le plus laid J (musique underground et expérimentale).
NorthSide festival a lieu chaque mois de juin, c’est un jeune festival créé en 2010 comme un événement d’une journée mais il grandi très vite, 2 jours en 2011 et déjà 3 jours en 2012 et chaque année des excellents noms on joués ici : Suede, Artic Monkeys, Keane, Phoenix, Franz Ferdinand, Queen of the Stone Age, Kasabian, Snow Patrol ainsi qu’un large éventail d’artistes danois.
L’emplacement du festival n’est pas très loin du centre-ville, donc tout le monde va à pied ou à vélo. Le site est bien organisé, nourriture et boissons pour tous les goûts, des grands espaces, art work, drôles de sculptures ou sculptures « en livres » , c’est un festival vert, innovant, durable.
Il y a 3 scènes –The Green, the Bleu et The P6 beat, très accessibles.
Le public est jeune, aimable et joyeux, pas une surprise car ici à Aarhus, il y a la plus grande université scandinave, donc les étudiants représentent environ 13 % de la population.
Arrivée le vendredi, très tard, nous avons juste vu une petite partie du show de Grace Jones, qui est toujours tellement incroyable sur scène.
Samedi, c’était une horrible journée de pluie froide non stop.
Placebo jouait en fin de soirée, donc nous sommes allés sur le site 1heure avant le spectacle, le temps d’écouter quelques bons morceaux du The Jésus and Mary Chain.
Quelques minutes avant le début, il pleut toujours de cordes et nous sommes si proches de la scène, que je commence à paniquer!!! Le début du spectacle : superbes lumières, excellents son puissant, l’ambiance s’chauffe, ils sont étonnés que nous sommes là pour les voir sur telle une pluie terrible, alors qu’ils donnent leur meilleur.

Presque tout est là, une chanson après l’autre, la tension monte, ils ont vraiment délivré un d’un concert d’enfer.
La pluie tome de plus en plus fort et qu’il est presque impossible de prendre des photos, et aussi le personnel de sécurité ne semble pas très heureux de nous laisser utiliser des appareils photos, bizarre…
Nous avons oublié que nous sommes mouillés de la tête aux pieds et que nous sommes bloqués dans une boue semi – liquide…
C’était probablement un de meilleur concert Placebo que je n’ai jamais vu, pluie au-dessus de nos têtes et pluie des guitares magnétiques, piano, batterie et violon sur la scène. Merci!
Dimanche, enfin le soleil fait son apparition, fort vent froid, mais grande motivation pour Interpol et The Black Keys.
Le site du festival semble Ok après la pluie terrible, le sol est presque sec et les gens sont plus heureux de profiter d’une journée ensoleillée.
Là encore, je suis 5 mètres devant la scène. Le concert commence et ils ont magnifique dans cette lumière, de presque coucher de soleil. La machine indie punk rock démarre.
Voix exquise, superbe guitares aiguës, batterie et basse puissantes, même en plein air, leur son est fabuleux, sans faute, comme sur le CD.
Angels, Anywhere, Narc, toujours pas de Public Pervert mais une THE NEW incroyable, un EVIL excellent, une superbe Stella, pas de Leif mais un fantastique PDA, brillant Rage, Everything is wrong Cruise, Jail, Slow, tout s’enchaine rapidement, et s’arrêté brusquement… Ensorcelé, c’est un rêve, je ne peux pas y croire – c’est déjà fini – mais, oui, c’est un festival … une heure show.
Brillant, fascinant…comme toujours – ils sont on Top. C’était le dernier spectacle en Europe avant août. Les rois de New York ont conquis le Royaume de Danemark. Hamlet fait gaffe…Merci encore!
Maintenant, plus que 2h à attendre pour The Black Keys, et il fait de plus en plus froid, mais nous nous chauffons avec du café fort et brulant et la belle voix de Ben Howard.
Et enfin, le son de The black Keys retenti, leur rock blues énergique motive la foule énorme – tout le monde danse, immense party, les pieds ne s’arrête plus. Le concert est fantastique du début à la fin, et doncle festival se tremine toute en beaute .
