Samedi 19 Octobre, grosse soirée Rock N’Roll à La Cigale, Paris, pour le premier de 2 concerts Sold Out du groupe australien AIRBOURNE. Cela faisait 3 ans que le quatuor de Warrnambool ne s’était pas produit sur une scène parisienne, donc les fans habillées en jeans déchirés, t-shirts à l’effigie du groupe et blousons en cuir s’empressaient pour ovationner leurs idoles, pile une semaine avant la sortie de leur 5eme album Boneshaker.
En ouverture, très bon concert des américains de SUPERSUCKERS. Malgré leurs 30 ans de carrière, ce groupe d’Arizona n’est pas très connu. Un garage rock bien rythmé, influence Motorhead, le leader Eddie Spaghetti (chant, basse) accompagné par “Captain” Chris Von Streicher à la batterie et de « Metal » Marty Chandler à la guitare sont en grande forme et la foule est enthousiaste.
Petite pause est la salle devient rapidement pleine à craquer, le bar est pris d’assaut. Sur un mur de d’enceintes Marshall, les lumières s’éteignent et la bande sonore de Terminator 2 retenti. Accompagnés pas de lumières éclairs, les australiens déboulent sur la scène en mode tourbillon. Du son lourd emballé avec des riffs chargés font rebondir la salle. Raise the Flag et Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast mettent déjà la foule en délire. On sent l’énergie bouillonnante.
La foule pogote et le slammeurs sont nombreux – les vigiles ont beaucoup de boulot pour les sortir des côtés. Et cette ambiance va durer jusqu’à la fin du concert.
Le frontman Joel O’Keeffe, torse nu, sourit et dechainé, il s’agite dans tous les sens. A la 4 -ème chanson il décide déjà de se rapprocher un peu plus de la foule et monte sur les épaules d’un roadie pour plonger au milieu de la fosse en poursuivant son solo à la guitare. Il casse une bière sur sa tête et la pulvériser sur les fans à côté. Tonnerres d’applaudissement enthousiastes et cris de bonheurs. Vers la fin du concert, il va même monter au balcon.
Harri Harrison (à la guitare rythmique) et Justin Street (guitare basse et les chœurs) échangeant les micros dans un jeux frénétique et headbanging féroce tandis Ryan O’Keeffe à la batterie défonce ses fûts.
L’ensemble du show sera une suite de chansons endiablés, des riffs rythmés puissants qui imposent une cadence frénétique et font saigner les oreilles. Sans temps mort, sans balade, sans guitare acoustique. Que du Rock N’ Roll pur et dur, old school.
Seulement deux morceaux du nouvel album et évidement les classiques Girls In Black ou Breakin’ Outta Hell. Les fans sont essoufflés mais ils continuent de pogoter, slammmer et chanter.
‘It’s All For Rock ‘N’Roll’ hommage au grand Lemmy Kilmister est accompagné de cocktails fabriqués sur un charriot à roulettes siglé Motorhead et apporté sur la scène avec une bouteille de Jack Daniels et de canettes de coca cola. Joel s’improvise en barman et il sert de verres à chaque membre du groupe, puis aux fans des premiers rangs pour finir par les jeter dans la foule et même au balcon.
Stand Up for Rock ‘N’Roll sera le dernier morceau mais la fête ne s’arrête pas là, car ils reprennent leur souffle et ils reviennent à nouveau sur la scène pour un final intense avec Ready to Rock et Runnin’ Wild et pour remercier le public français qui les a toujours accueillis avec un telle ferveur.
Ce soir AIRBOURNE assure de bout en bout et prouve qu’ils sont l’un des meilleurs groupes live débordant d’énergie. Une soirée de dingue, du Rock ‘N’Roll à son meilleur niveau et une foule fantastique. Si vous n’avez pas encore eu le plaisir de les voir sur scène allez-y. Rock Vibes garantis !

Saturday 19th of October, great Rock n’ Roll party at La Cigale, Paris, for the first of 2 Sold Out concerts of the Australian band AIRBOURNE. It’s been 3 years since the quartet from Warrnambool had not performed on a Parisian stage, so fans wearing ripped denim, AIRBOURNE t-shirts and leather jackets rushed to see their idols, just one week before the release of their 5th album Boneshaker.
In opening, a very good concert of SUPERSUCKERS. Despite their 30-year career, this band from Arizona is not very well known. A well-paced garage rock, Motorhead influences, the frontman Eddie Spaghetti (vocal, bass) accompanied by “Captain” Chris Von Streicher (drums) and “Metal” Marty Chandler (guitar) are in great shape and the crowd is enthusiastic.
Small break and the room quickly become packed and the bar is overcrowded.
A wall of Marshall speakers, the lights go out and on the Terminator 2 soundtrack, the Australians hit the stage in whirlwind mode. Heavy sound wrapped with loaded riffs bounce the room. Raise the Flag and Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast and the crowd become insane. You can feel the bubbling energy. Many crowd surfers – the guards have a lot of work to get them out of the sides. And this ambience will last until the end of the concert.
The shirtless frontman Joel O’Keeffe smiles and cheers the audience. At the 4th song, he already decides to go a little closer to the crowd and climbs on the shoulders of a roadie to dive in the middle of the crowd while continuing his solo guitar. He breaks a beer on his head and spray it on the fans next door.
Enthusiastic thunders of applause and cries of happiness. Towards the end of the concert he will even climb to the balcony. Harri Harrison (rhythmic guitar) and Justin Street (bass guitar and chorus) exchanging microphones in a frenetic game and fierce headbanging while Ryan O’Keeffe smashes his drums. The whole show will be a series of frenzied songs, powerful rhythmic riffs that impose a crazy cadence that made our ears bleed. No timeout, no ballad, no acoustic guitar. Pure Rock N’ Roll, old school style.
Only two tracks from the new album and of course the classics Girls In Black or Breakin’ Outta Hell. Fans are breathless but they continue to headbang, jump and sing. ‘It’s All For Rock ‘N’Roll’ tribute to the great Lemmy Kilmister is accompanied by cocktails. Joel improvise himself as a bartender on a Motorhead-branded wheeled cart, brought to the stage with a bottle of Jack Daniels and cans of coke. It serves glasses for each member of the band, then to the fans of the front rows to end up throwing them into the crowd and even to the balcony.
Stand Up for Rock ‘N’ Roll will be the last track but the party doesn’t stop there, because they catch their breath and they return to the stage again for an intense finale with Ready to Rock and Runnin’ Wild and to thank the French audience who always welcomed them with such fervor.
Tonight, AIRBOURNE kill it from start to finish and proves that they are one of the best live bands ever. A crazy night, Rock ‘N’Roll at its best and a fantastic crowd. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing them on stage, just go for it !!! 100% ROCK N ROLL !
