Le groupe American WINGS OF STEEL a suscité notre intérêt l’année dernière avec leur premier album Gates of Twilight, une véritable ode au hard rock & heavy metal classique, un condensé d’énergie brute et d’émotion.

Au printemps 2024, le groupe formé par Leo Unnermark (voix), Parker Halub (guitare) accompagnés par le guitariste Stefan John-Bailet, le batteur allemand, Marcel Binder et le bassiste belge, Mathieu Trobec s’est lancé dans sa première tournée en Europe (Allemagne, France, Belgique) avec plusieurs concerts en tête d’affiche et aussi des participations à des fameux festivals comme KEEP IT TRUE FEST et ROCK HARD FEST.

En France, le combo s’est produit à Paris aux Etoiles, le 16 mai 2024 et à Lille le 17 mai 2024 au Splendid. Ce dernier concert a été enregistré live dans le public à l’initiative d’Arno Geenens (Vérone Productions) et de l’ingénieur du son Jean-Loup “J Wolf” Demeulemeester et a donné naissance à un disque de 8 titres intitulé « Live in France » sorti le 13 décembre 2024 en CD, vinyle & digital.

Les versions vinyle noir & CD sont disponibles sur le site du groupe tandis que le Vinyle Bleu & rouge «tie dye » double face avec photos live, est sorti en tirage limité «  Rock Hard »  à 125 exemplaires dans le monde (100 uniquement disponibles via le site du magazine et 25 directement vendus par le groupe). Inutile de vous dire que ce bel objet c’est déjà Sold Out !

Aujourd’hui, je vous propose de découvrir (enfin !) l’interview de Leo et Parker, que j’ai eu le grand plaisir de rencontrer à Paris avant leur passage aux Etoiles. On a parlé de la création du groupe, de leurs influences, de leur look génial, de leurs plus grands défis et de plein d’autres choses.

Comment avez-vous commencé le groupe ?

Leo : C’était une évidence. Je pense que c’était censé arriver. On est tous les deux allés dans la même école de musique. Il y avait quelques musiciens qui faisaient du Hard Rock mais, je ne pouvais vraiment voir qu’un seul mec qui avait le bon look et l’air cool : Parker. Je me suis dit que ça doit être le mec que je dois contacter pour former un groupe.

Je lui ai envoyé un message, puis on s’est rencontrés et on a parlé d’influences communes et de notre vision commune de l’avenir. Et je pense qu’on s’est toute de suite senti très proches.

Parker : Oui, exact. Il m’a envoyé un message. Hé mec, tu as l’air cool. Formons un groupe.  On a parlé et c’est le premier gars que j’ai rencontré dans ma vie qui connaissait le groupe Blue Murder. Et là, j’ai dit OK, on était censé de se rencontrer.

Leo : En fait, C’est grâce à Blue Murder !

Parker, tu as commencé la guitare quand tu étais très jeune, quelle a été ta première influence en tant que guitariste ?

Parker : Je dirais que ma première influence musicale a probablement été le groupe Journey. Quand j’ai découvert la chanson Separate Ways pour la première fois, c’était incroyable. Tout a commencé à partir de là. Puis quand j’avais 9-10 ans, j’ai eu ma première guitare électrique, et j’ai découvert Metallica. Je pense que c’est là que tout a démarré pour mon jeu de guitare et mes goûts musicaux.

Et pour toi Leo ?  Tu as eu une idole qui t’as inspiré pour ton chant ?

Leo : Il y a eu quelques fois dans ma vie où j’ai dit que j’aimerais avoir la voix de ce gars ou de cette fille mais je ne citerai que Paul Rogers de Free et Bad Company. Ce gars a une voix monstrueuse et il peut toujours chanter aussi bien. Et l’autre était David Coverdale.

J’ai écouté plutôt les débuts de ces deux chanteurs, quand ils étaient encore très souls et très bluesy. Et plus récent, je mentionnerai Ronnie James Dio. C’est sûr qu’il a été l’une de mes plus grandes inspirations.

Comment écrivez-vous ensemble ?

Leo : C’est une belle expérience mais je ne sais pas trop comment répondre à cette question.

Parker : c’est un processus continu où Leo et moi trouvons constamment des riffs, des mélodies et des idées. Cela ne s’arrête jamais. C’est tout le temps et à chaque fois on fait tout simplement des petits enregistrements sur le téléphone qu’on sauvegarde. On a de centaines, voire des milliers de ces petits enregistrements. Ensuite, la chanson, en quelque sorte s’épanouie à partir de là. Elle s’écrit presque toute seule.

Leo : Oui, exactement. On peut commencer avec une idée et dès qu’on entre dans le flow, la chanson s’écrit presque toute seule. C’est comme ça qu’on a pu écrire notre dernier album aussi vite.

Vous avez enregistré un EP Wings of Steel, puis assez rapidement, le premier album, Gates of Twilight. Avez-vous une chanson préférée qui figure dans ces 2 enregistrements ?

Leo : Je ne pense pas avoir une chanson préférée en général. Mais ce que je pourrais dire est que She Cries est remarquable quand on la chante live. J’ai l’impression que c’est une chanson émotionnelle avec laquelle beaucoup de gens s’identifie. Aussi Wings of Steel, c’est ce genre de chansons qui rend tout le monde fou.

Parker : Chaque chanson apporte un élément spécial. À la fois en tant que chanson elle-même, et bien sûr lorsque vous la jouez en live. Je ne peux pas répondre honnêtement à cette question, mais juste pour te donner une réponse je dirai Black out the Street qui est sorti sur l’EP.

J’adore vraiment cette chanson. J’adore le brakedown et aussi, le solo. J’aime aussi Into the sun  qu’on trouve sur l’album. J’adore les solos de guitare. Mais, J’aime toutes les chansons. 

Liar in Love est l’un de mes préférés. Quelle est l’histoire de cette chanson ?

Leo : Toutes les chansons ont leur propre histoire. Liar in Love peut être interprété de plusieurs façons. Je pense qu’il y a une façon évidente de l’interpréter, et je pense que beaucoup de gens peuvent s’y retrouver car on a tous vécu quelque chose de similaire, mais surement vous pouvez la comprendre des plusieurs façons.

Parker : cette chanson est un voyage. Je dirais qu’elle illustre en quelque sorte notre processus d’écriture.

Je me souviens que c’était probablement en mai ou juin 2020, Leo et moi, on se trouvait dans notre appartement à Hollywood, et on a trouvé ce riff qu’on peut entendre dans le refrain. Et puis, à cette époque, je pense que j’ai aussi trouvé le riff que vous entendez dans le couplet. 

Ensuite, je pense qu’en octobre ou novembre 2020, on a mis en place une version de la chanson avec ces deux riffs. Elle avait une structure différente, avec des paroles différentes et on l’a vraiment adoré. Finalement, on ne l’a pas mise sur l’EP car on n’était pas tout à fait satisfaits du résultat.

On a donc mis la démo de côté. Ensuite, quand on a écrit l’album, on l’a sorti, on l’a réarrangé et on l’amener là où elle devrait être et la voici.

Aviez-vous plus de 10 chansons pour l’album et vous avez dû faire des choix ?

Leo : On avait seulement 10 semaines pour écrire cet album et cela uniquement parce que je viens en tant que touriste aux États-Unis. Je ne peux y rester que 90 jours, il fallait donc écrire et enregistrer la plupart de l’album dans ce laps de temps. On a donc fait à peu près une chanson par semaine.

Parker : Oui, on a fait 10 chansons en 10 semaines. Certaines des chansons venaient de démos précédentes qu’on a retravaillé car on avait vraiment beaucoup écrit avant de sortir l’EP.

Gates of Twilight, la chanson titre, a été la première chanson de l’album et ensuite Liar in Love.

Notre musique est puissante, émotionnelle, dynamique. Elle traverse des hauts et des bas.

Ce printemps vous vous produisez en Europe pour la première fois, en tête d’affiche et mais aussi dans festivals. Que pensez-vous des fans européens ? Comment vous ont-ils accueilli ?

Leo : Ils sont géniaux. On ne savait pas à quoi s’attendre quand on est arrivés ici. On savait seulement que nous avons de fans et que festivals sont super.

Toutes les personnes qui sont venues aux festivals et à nos concerts en tête d’affiche, ils nous ont montré que du soutien. Les gens qui ne nous connaissaient pas, c’est-à-dire que la plupart des gens qui sont venus aux festivals, ils sont maintenant des fans.  Ils chantaient tous Wings of Steel à la fin du set et je pense que c’est le plus grand honneur que l’on puisse recevoir en tant que groupe, surtout pour un groupe débutant en Europe.

Parker : on n’avait aucune attente en arrivant ici. Avant de partir en tournée européenne, Wings of Steel en tant que groupe n’avait joué que trois concerts à Los Angeles. On s’est donc dit, si quelqu’un vient au concert, c’est génial. Si ce n’est pas le cas, on va se dire que c’est juste une répétition.

Leo : on partait de Zéro, on n’avait aucune attente mais chaque endroit où nous avons joué a été juste wow. Il y a beaucoup de gens qui sont venus, on a reçu beaucoup de soutien et une bonne réponse de leur part. 

Et donc votre premier concert était où ? quels sont vos souvenirs ?

Parker : au Whisky a Go Go à Los Angeles. On a fait la partie de Pretty Boy Floyd.

Leo : il n’y avait pas les meilleures conditions, je veux dire on a dû vendre nos billets et faite tout nous-même, mais on l’a fait et on a joué comme des fous et ça a payé parce que la prochaine fois quand on y a joué, on était les têtes d’affiche.

Vous avez un look rock métal génial. Qu’est-ce qui vous inspire dans le choix de vos tenus ?

Leo : Merci beaucoup. Pour moi, je dirais que ma copine a l’œil pour la mode. Elle a étudié le design, donc la plupart des choses que je porte sont soit achetées par elle, soit elles lui appartiennent. Donc ça aide beaucoup, mais je dirai aussi que dans le passé j’étais très intéressé par la scène glam métal. Alors, j’ai porté beaucoup de choses intéressantes. Je pense que j’ai toujours eu une très large perspective et je suis très ouvert à l’idée de porter des choses originales.

Parker : on est assez décontractés à ce sujet. On ne veut pas être comme les groupes moderne, juste se présenter en short et en T-shirt. On essaie d’avoir l’air cool. Mais on ne se prend pas la tête non plus. Je veux dire n’importe quoi si c’est noir, c’est cool et si c’est du cuir, c’est encore mieux.

Ma tenue est très simple. J’ai mes pantalons en cuir et mon bandana, tous mes bijoux, et je ne porte pas de chemise. C’est facile.

Ce gars (il montre Leo) il a un million de tenues, et c’est cool parce qu’il a beaucoup à offrir dans ce sens. Moi, j’ai juste mon look. Mes T-shirts n’ont plus de manches, ils sont tous découpés. Je les coupe et je le personnalise moi-même.

Quelque chose que vous emportez toujours avec vous lorsque vous voyagez

Leo : Je m’assure d’avoir toujours au moins 2 ou 3 vestes en cuir avec moi. Ce n’est qu’en plein été qu’il devient un peu difficile de les porter, mais à part ça, c’est parfait.

Parker : Les pantalons en cuir sont toujours les meilleurs. Quelques chaînes, des bijoux, des lunettes de soleil.

Que faites-vous quand vous ne faites pas de musique ? 

Parker : Quand on ne joue pas de métal on écoute du métal. On aime la musique. C’est ce qu’on fait la plupart du temps. Si nous ne joue pas de musique ou on ne s’occupe pas des affaires, on écoute de la musique ou on regarde un concert. On aime aussi aller à la salle de sport.

Leo : on aime aussi la nourriture.  On essaie de nous imprégner de la culture culinaire et oui, on fait beaucoup de marche. On aime être en mouvement, je pense.

La chanson qui a changé votre vie.

Parker : Separate Ways de Journey, c’est sûr. Quand j’ai entendu cette chanson, c’était comme si les portes de l’univers s’étaient grandes ouvertes pour moi.

Leo : Heaven and Hell de Black Sabbath

Un endroit spécial où vous aimerez jouer un jour ?

Leo : Oh, il y a cet endroit au Portugal où les Scorpions ont fait un show live l’acoustique. Je ne sais pas comment s’appelle (ndlr : Convento do Beato à Lisbonne)

Et puis, ce serait cool de jouer tous les grands festivals européens comme le Hellfest.

Parker : Il y a quelques coins du globe qui ne sont pas très stables politiquement en ce moment, mais ils ont beaucoup de fans de heavy metal et je pense que ce serait vraiment cool d’aller dans certains de ces endroits, d’apporter notre musique et de partager notre musique avec ces gens.

Je pense que notre objectif avec le groupe est d’écrire, de monter le meilleur spectacle possible et de le partager avec le plus grand nombre de personnes.

Leo : ça peut sembler un peu cliché, mais j’aimerais vraiment jouer au Japon aussi, parce que ce que j’ai entendu des autres membres du groupe, c’est que les fans japonais sont géniaux

Parker : Et puis aussi au Brésil, l’Amérique du Sud en général.

Vous vous connaissez depuis longtemps, qu’avez-vous appris l’un de l’autre ?

Parker : J’ai acheté ma première paire de pantalons en cuir grâce à un gars qui essayait de lui vendre une paire de pantalons en cuir, mais ça ne lui allait pas bien. C’était parfait. Bon, Il y a probablement une meilleure réponse que cela.

Leo : Eh bien, tu m’as fait découvrir la cuisine mexicaine.

Parker : C’est vrai et toi, tu m’as fait découvrir la sauce béarnaise.  Et surtout on s’est fait découvrit mutuellement beaucoup de groupes.

Leo : Oui, je pense à beaucoup de groupes et à beaucoup de nourriture, mais plus que ça, je pense qu’on forme ensemble une unité qui apprend beaucoup des choses en général. J’ai l’impression qu’au fur et à mesure de nos tournées, avec tous ce qui se passe autour de nous, on apprend beaucoup de choses ensemble. On réfléchit ensemble à tout ce qui nous arrive.

Parker : Oui, on apprend ensemble constamment beaucoup de choses. C’est une l’expérience très fun. C’était une bonne question.

Leo : J’adore cette question.

Jusqu’à présent, qu’est-ce qui a été le plus difficile pour vous, en tant que groupe ?

Leo : Je pense que les grands événements du groupe comme les sorties d’album, la tournée. Il y aura toujours beaucoup de logistique et c’est à nous d’être le manager, de s’occuper de tout… même s’il y a beaucoup de gloire et beaucoup d’euphorie derrière.

Parker : oui, mais c’est drôle aussi et on aime le faire.

Leo : Oui, absolument. C’est pourquoi on est ici, parce qu’en fin de compte, on sait que cela en vaut la peine. Mais il y a beaucoup de choses qui se passent dans les coulisses et qui peuvent être assez difficiles. On s’est dit toujours que si on dort suffisamment et on mange correctement, on peut le faire et on peut rester à l’écart des mauvaises choses.

Parker : Je pense que l’un des grands défis auxquels on est confrontés est simplement la géographie, je veux dire l’endroit où nous vivons. Quand on a commencé le groupe, on vivait tous les deux à Los Angeles. Lorsque son visa étudiant a expiré mi-2021, on est plutôt sur ces cycles quand il peut venir aux États-Unis pendant 90 jours, puis il doit partir et revenir.

On est un peut en train de courir. On fait tout mais on n’est pas ensemble tout le temps. On fait des choses à distance, et cela fonctionne bien s’il s’agit simplement de s’envoyer des e-mails et de gérer des choses. On peut le faire mais parfois c’est difficile. 

On peut écrire de la musique, mais on est limités dans le temps pour jouer ensemble, du moins pour l’instant. Mais on travaille pour obtenir un visa d’artiste afin qu’il puisse voyager librement.

C’est probablement l’un des plus grands défis auxquels on a été confrontés, mais en fin de compte, vous savez, il n’y a rien de trop difficile. On est toujours là, on s’amuse encore beaucoup et c’est tout ce qui compte.

Quels sont les prochains projets ?

Leo : on va terminer la tournée et ensuite, on va passer le dernier trimestre de l’année à écrire et à enregistrer ce qui sera le prochain album de Wings of Steel qui sortira en 2025, suivi d’une autre tournée.

Comment est-ce que vous présenteriez votre musique à quelqu’un qui n’a jamais entendu parler de vous

Parker : Alors peut-être que je n’essaierais même pas de la définir en termes de genre. D’accord, c’est un hard rock et un heavy metal très dynamiques, mais je dirais le plus probablement que notre musique est puissante, émotionnelle, dynamique. Elle traverse des hauts et des bas. Il y a beaucoup d’énergie dedans. Ça groove et ça change, ça bouge beaucoup.

Leo : Je dirais juste de l’écouter, vraiment. Et écoutez en sachant que lorsque vous cliquez sur la chanson suivante, elle ne sonnera probablement pas comme la précédente. Vous savez, il y en a probablement pour tous les goûts.

Parker : Il y a beaucoup de différence entre les chansons, mais tu peux toujours entendre que c’est nous.

The American band WINGS OF STEEL catch our attention last year with their debut album Gates of Twilight, a true ode to classic hard rock & heavy metal, a compendium of raw energy and emotion. 

In the spring of 2024, the band formed by Leo Unnermark (vocals), Parker Halub (guitar) accompanied by guitarist Stefan John-Bailet, German drummer, Marcel Binder and Belgian bassist Mathieu Trobec embarked on its first tour in Europe (Germany, France, Belgium) with several headlining concerts and also participations in famous festivals such as KEEP IT TRUE FEST and ROCK HARD FEST.

In France, the band performed in Paris at Les Etoiles, on May 16, 2024 and in Lille on May 17, 2024 at the Splendid. This last concert was recorded live in the audience on the initiative of Arno Geenens (Verona Productions) and sound engineer Jean-Loup “J Wolf” Demeulemeester and gave birth to an 8-track record entitled “Live in France” released on December 13, 2024 on CD, vinyl & digital.

The black vinyl and CD versions are available on the band’s website while the Blue & Red Tie Dye Double-Sided Color Insert with live photos and credits, a limited edition “Rock Hard” of 125 copies worldwide (100 only available via the magazine’s website and 25 sold directly by the band). Needless to say, this beautiful object is already sold out! 

Today I invite you to discover (finally!) the interview of Leo and Parker, whom I had the great pleasure to sit and discuss in Paris before their concert to the Etoiles.

They told us about the band, their influences, their fashion style and their biggest challenges, among other things. Discover the Interview.

How did you start the band?

Leo: It was an obvious kind of thing. I think it was meant to happen. We both went out to the same music school. There were a couple musicians walking around there doing a Hard Rock and stuff but overall, I could really only see one dude who looked cool. Parker! I said Ok, this has got to be the dude that get in contact with and start a band. I sent him a message, then we met up and we talked some common influences and shared vision for the future.

And I think things just clicked straight away.

Parker: Yeah, it was like this. He sent me a message. Hey man you Look cool. Let’s start a band.

And we talked and he was the first guy I ever met who knows of the band Blue Murder. I never met anybody in my life before who knew that band. And I said OK this was meant to be!

Leo : It’s all thanks to Blue Murder.

Parker, you started guitar when you were very young, what was your first influence as a guitarist?

Parker: I would say my first musical influence at all was probably the band Journey. When I first discovered the song Separate Ways, it was amazing. Everything started from there. Then when I was 9-10 years old, I got my first electric guitar, and I discovered Metallica. I think there is where it all clicked for guitar playing and my musical taste.

And for you Leo? Did you get an idol that you wanted to sing as?

Leo: There’s been a few times in my life where I said that I wish I had that guy’s voice or that girl’s voice or whatever, but I’ll mention just a few noticeable singers like Paul Rogers from Free and Bad Company. That guy could freaking sing, and he still can sing really well, too. And the other one was David Coverdale.

I pretty much only listen to the early stuff by both these singers when they were still very soulful and very bluesy.

And in my later years, I’ll mention Ronnie James Dio. For sure, he has been one of the biggest inspirations for me.

How do you write together?

Leo: It’s a beautiful experience but I don’t really know how to answer that question.

Parker:  it’s an ever-going continuous process where Leo and I are constantly coming up with riffs and melodies and ideas. This never ends. It’s all the time and we just take down a little recording on the phone and save it. We have hundreds or probably thousands at these recorded riffs and cool progressions. The song just kind of blossom from there. It almost writes itself.

Leo: yes, exactly. We may start with an idea but as soon as we kind of tap into that flow state, the song is almost just writes itself. That’s how we were able to write our last album so quick.

You record an EP Wings of Steel and then very quickly the first album Gates of Twilight. Do you have a favourite song out of these 2 recordings?

Leo : I don’t think I have a favourite song overall. The only thing, I can say is that one of many noticeable songs when we play live has been She Cries. Because I feel like it’s an emotional song that a lot of people get with. Also Wings of Steel, it that kind of songs when people really go crazy.

Parker : Every song has a special element that brings. Both as a song itself, and of course when you play it live.

I cannot honestly answer this question but for the sake of your question, I will say Black out the street out of the EP.

I really love the song. I love the breakdown section and the solo. I love also Into the sun on the full-length album. I love the guitar solos. But I love all the songs.

Liar in love is one of my favourites. What is its special story?

Leo: all songs have their kind of story. Liar in Love can be interpreted in many ways.

I think there’s the obvious way of interpreting it, and I think a lot of people can get with that. We’ve all kind of gone through something similar but then you can look at it in many ways. I think it can be as straight up as you want. Then it can be understood in many ways.

Parker: this song came together as a journey. We didn’t really do it consciously, but this kind of illustrates our writing process.

I remember it was probably May or June of 2020. Leo and I were hanging out in our apartment in Hollywood, and we came up with that riff you hear in the chorus. And then, around that time, I think I also came up with the riff you hear in the verse.

Then, I think in October or November of 2020, we laid out a version of the song with those two riffs. it was a different structure, with different lyrics but we really, really loved it.

Finally, we didn’t put it on the EP as we weren’t quite happy with. So, this demo was shelved a little bit.

Then, when we were writing the album, we put it out and said let’s fix this thing up and let’s finish this song and bring it to where it needs to be and here it is.

Did you have more songs than these 10 that you put on the full-length album?

Leo: Basically, we had we had a deadline of 10 weeks to write this out and a deadline only because I come as a tourist to the US. I can only be there for 90 days that’s like a time limit to write and record for the most part the album. So, we did pretty much one song a week.

Parker: Yes, we got 10 songs in 10 weeks. I think some of the songs had come from previous demos that we worked on as we had written pretty much before we released the EP : Gates of Twilight, actually, the title track,  it was actually the first song in the album and then Liar in Love.

Our music It’s powerful, it’s emotional, it’s dynamic. It goes through peaks and valleys.

You perform in Europe for the first time, so you did some headlining show and also festivals. What do you think about the European fans? How did they welcome you?

Leo : They are awesome. We didn’t know what to expect when we came out here. We knew that we had fans, we knew these festivals are really good.

We had no idea how to gauge the headline shows at all, but all the people that came out to both the festivals and the headline shows have shown us nothing but support. And the people who did not know us which mind you, was most of the people coming out to these festivals, they’re now fans.

They were all chanting Wings of Steel at the end of the set and I think that’s the highest honour you can receive as a band, especially debuting in Europe.

Parker : we really had no expectation coming.

I mean, before we went on this European Tour, Wings of Steel as a band, had only played three live shows in LA. So, we were like, well, you know, if somebody shows up, that’s awesome. But you know, if not, we’ll treat it like a rehearsal. It’s fun.

Leo : We’re starting from Ground Zero, so we didn’t place any expectation but every place that we’ve played has just been like wow. There’s a lot of people that came, we had good support and response from them.

Where and how was your first show then?

Parker : I was at the Whisky a Go Go in LA. We were opening for Pretty Boy Floyd.

Leo : it wasn’t the greatest terms for that show. We had to sell our tickets and stuff like that but we did it and we played our asses off and it paid off because next time we went there, we were the headliners.

You are looking great. How did you choose your outfits? What inspired you?

Leo : Thank you so much. For me, I will say my girlfriend has an eye for fashion.

She used to study design, so most of the stuff I wear is either bought by her or owned by her.

So that helps a lot, but I will say also, I had a couple of years back in my youth where I was very into like the glam metal scene. So, then I wore a lot of interesting stuff. I think I’ve always had a broad perspective on. I’m very open to wearing kind of whatever really.

Parker: we’re pretty laid back about it. we don’t want to be like the most modern band just show up in shorts and T Shirt. We try to look cool. But I mean, we’re pretty loose with it. I mean anything if it’s black, it’s cool and if it is leather is even better.

My outfit is very simple. I have my leather pants and my bandana, all my jewellery, and I just don’t wear shirt. That keeps It easy.

This guy (showing Leo) he has like a million outfits, and that’s cool because he has a lot to offer in that sense. Me, I just have my look. I’m like the action figure.

My T-shirts have no longer sleeves. I customise myself.

A favourite piece of outfit that you always take with you when you travel, for example.

Leo: I make sure I always have at least 2 or 3 leather jackets.it’s only in high summer where it gets a little difficult to wear that, but other than it’s perfect.

Parker: Leather pants are always the best. Some chains, jewellery, sun glasses.

What do you guys do when you are not doing music?

Parker:  when we’re not playing any metal. We’re listening. We love music. That’s what we do most of the time. If we are not playing music or not doing business stuff. We’re hanging out there listening to it or watching a live show.

We also love going to the gym.

Leo: We love food.  We’re trying to get some of the food culture and yeah, we take a lot of walks. We like to be on the move, I think.

The song that changed your life.

Parker : Separate Ways by Journey for sure. When I heard that song, it was like the doors of the universe blew wide open. Now, I’m here.

Leo : Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath

Do you have your special place where you would like to play one day?

Leo : Oh, there’s that place in Portugal. where the Scorpions did live acoustic. I don’t know what that place is called (editor note Convento do Beato, Lisbon)

Then it would be cool to play all the big European festivals like Hellfest .

Parker : There’s some corners of the globe right now that are  not very politically stable but they have a lot heavy metal fans and I think it would be really cool to go to some of these places, bring our music and share our music with these people.

I think our goal with the band is to write, put on the best live show we can and share it with as many people.

Leo: Yeah, I think it might sound like a little bit of a cliche, but I would really like to play Japan too, because what I’ve heard from other bands members that the Japanese fans are so supportive as well.

Parker: And then another big one is Brazil, South America in general. I mean, we can already see we have a lot of fans out.

You guys know each other since long time What did you learn from each other?

Parker:  He got me my first pair of leather pants from that a guy who was trying to sell him a pair of leather pants, but it hadn’t fit him properly. I was perfect. There’s probably a better answer than that.

Leo: Well, you introduced me to Mexican food.

Parker: That’s right and you introduced me to bearnaise sauce.  And I think we’ve both collectively introduced each other to a lot of bands.

Leo: yes, I think to a lot of bands and a lot of food, but more than that, I think we it’s almost like we’re kind of one unit learning a lot about stuff in general really, because I feel like, you know, as we go along, we pick up a lot of the stuff together.

Being on tour together, all the stuff that happens, we reflect on it simultaneously.

Parker: Yeah, we’re constantly always learning stuff. I think that’s part of the fun experience. That was a good question.

Leo: I love that question.

What was the most challenging for you as a band till now?

Leo: I think times around like releases or big events in the band touring. There’s always going to be a lot of logistics. It falls on us being the manager, being everything…even though there’s a lot of glory and a lot of euphoria behind.

Parker: And it’s and it’s funny too and we love it

Leo:  Yeah, absolutely. That’s why we’re here because at the end of the day, we know it’s worth it. But there is a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes and that can be quite challenging.

We always say if you get enough sleep and you eat proper food you can do that and you know, stay away from bad things.

Parker:  I think one of the big challenges that we face is just our geography, I mean where we live. When we started the band, we were both living in LA. When his student visa ran up mid-2021 we pretty been on this cycle where he can come to the US for 90 days and then he has to leave and come again.

We run; we do everything but we’re not together all time. All is done remotely, and it works fine because a lot of what we’re doing if it’s just getting back to emails and managing stuff, and you could totally do it like that but sometimes it’s challenging.

You know, we have to write music, but we’re limited in the time that we can play shows together, at least for now.

But we are working to get him a visa so he can travel free.

That’s probably one of the bigger challenges we faced but at the end of the day, you know it’s nothing too big. we’re still here, we’re still doing it. We’re still having a lot of fun and that’s all that matters.

And what are the next projects?

Leo:  we’ll wrap up this tour and then we’ll spend the last quarter of the year writing and recording what’s going to be the next Wings of Steel record coming out sometime in 2025, followed up by another tour.

How will you present your music to someone that never heard about you

Parker: Then maybe I wouldn’t necessarily even try to define it in genre terms.

Ok, it’s a very dynamic hard rock and heavy metal but I would say it more probably: our music

It’s powerful, it’s emotional, it’s dynamic. It goes through peaks and valleys.

There’s a lot of energy in it. It’s groovy, it grooves and changes, it moves.

Leo: I would say just listen to it, really.

And listen with the knowledge that when you click the next song, it’s probably not going to sound the way that the previous one did. You know, probably there’s something for everyone.

Parker: There’s a lot of difference between the songs but you can always hear that It’s us.
