WINGS OF STEEL – IMPRESSIVE Gig in Paris, Review- 16.05.2024

La nouvelle Ere glorieuse du hard rock et du heavy metal commence avec eux : WINGS OF STEEL. Eh bien, on vous a déjà parlé ici du groupe américain, mais au cas où vous ne les connaissez pas encore, petit rappel.

En 2022, le combo a sorti un EP éponyme, suivi en 2023, d’un premier album tout simplement formidable : « Gates of Twilight », une véritable ode au hard rock & heavy metal classique, que j’ai adoré dès la première écoute et qui a forcément figuré dans le « best of » de ROCK ART FASHION.

Le groupe formé par Leo Unnermark (voix), Parker Halub (guitare) accompagnés par Stefan John-Bailet (guitare rythmique) s’est lancé en avril dernier dans sa première tournée en tête d’affiche en Europe (Allemagne, France, Belgique) et se produit également à plusieurs festivals comme KEEP IT TRUE FEST et ROCK HARD FEST.

A cette occasion le combo, rejoint par le batteur allemand, Marcel Binder et le bassiste belge, Mathieu Trobec s’est produit à Paris, Les Etoiles, le 16 mai 2024 et on y était, évidement.

En arrivant à la salle vers 19h45, il y a déjà beaucoup monde et on voit tout de suite que ce sont plutôt les connaisseurs du genre qui ont fait le déplacement pour participer à cet évènement.

Le groupe parisien de heavy metal, FURIES, ouvre les hostilités à 20h. Comme leur nom l’indique très bien, leur show sera furieux : un enchainement de morceaux énergiques hard et heavy, parfois plus lourds et sombres, souvent agrémentés des passages mélodiques parfaitement maitrisé par la très souriante chanteuse, Cheyenne Janas. Sa voix puissante se superpose aux riffs complexes livrés par le duo de guitaristes Guillaume Jockey et Fred Bend à quoi on rajoute une rythmique percutante, grâce à ZAZA Lavarenne (la fondatrice du groupe) véritable « furie » derrière son kit batterie et à la rayonnante bassiste/choriste, Lucie Sue.

Le groupe très sympathique et communicatif, est visiblement très content d’être là (c’est leur premier concert parisien en 4 ans) et va préparer avec brio le terrain pour ce qui va suivre.

Leur premier album « Fortune’s Gate » est disponible ainsi que leur plus récent single « Stars of Burning Lands ». A découvrir sans attendre.

Vers 21h10, WINGS OF STEEL arrive sur scène et démarre en trombe avec Fall in Line, parfait morceau d’introduction avec son rythme galopant et son excellente mélodie. On est toute de suite scotchés par les riffs brulantes livrés par Parker Haloub, dieu de la guitare, torse nu, bandana dans les cheveux ultra long, bandana nouée à la guitare et écharpe tête de mort accroché à son pantalon en cuir.

De la même manière la voix magnifique, irréelle de Leo Unnermark nous interpelle toute de suite par sa beauté et son timbre ultra puissant. Le chanteur charismatique qui arbore lui aussi un bandana dans les cheveux et un look 100% cuir nous séduit dès le début par son comportement chaleureux : sourires, regards complices et tapes dans les mains avec les chanceux qui se trouvent aux premiers rangs. Attitude 100% Rock N’Roll. Le public adore.

Lady of the Lost suit et le blues infiltre le heavy metal avec brillance. La voix pleine d’émotion, un peu mélancolique fonctionne parfaitement avec les des guitares hallucinantes.

Bluesy Hard Rock, power metal mélodique, un Dieu de la guitare, un chanteur extraordinaire, des mélodies resplendissantes, des chansons savoureuses, WINGS OF STEEL nous livre ce soir un concert BLUFFANT !

Cry of the Damned ramène de nouveau l’énergie et la puissance heavy alors que Leather and Lace dévoile un superbe rythme rock et blues avec son petit vibe « Black Velvet » d’Allanah Myles que j’adoooore.

Superbe ambiance « hymne Scorpions grande aréna » créée par She Cries, une énorme ballade ou plutôt une demi-ballade qui s’accélère dans sa deuxième moitié grâce à des riffs et rhythmiques incendiaires. Dans la salle, nombreux allument leurs torches de téléphone et se balancent dans le rythme.

Gates of Twilight, la chanson titre de l’album, nous épate avec le solo de guitare et les chœurs très efficaces. Rhythm of Desire sera introduit par un énorme solo de Parker, alors que la voix de Leo, tantôt chaude tantôt aigue nous fascine. Certains dans la foule scandent leurs noms.

Les musiciens sont émus et impressionnés par un tel accueil et Leo ne manquera pas de remercier plusieurs fois dans la soirée à tous ceux qui sont venu les voir.

De nouveaux blues vibes qui donnent des frissons avec la superbe Garden of Eden et ses guitares qui pleurent et cette fabuleuse voix bluesy façon Coverdale/Tate.

Deux excellentes reprises Heaven and Hell de Black Sabbath (dédié à Ronnie James Dio) et l’ultra énergique Creeping Death de Metallica sont entrecoupés par Slave of Sorrows , un morceau slow dans lequel Leo démontre parfaitement sa gamme vocale incroyable et Parker ses prouesse spectaculaires à la guitare. Le public est en admiration.

Mes deux morceaux préfères de l’album seront laissés pour la fin : d’abord, Liar in Love où Leo nous fait une nouvelle démonstration de son chant qui semble si facile et si naturel pour lui et Into the Sun où les guitares jumelles jouent le rôle principal : Une chanson épique et polyvalente, pleine de rebondissements. Parker fera un véritable numéro de guitar hero en se jettent par terre. Les téléphones et les appareils photos s’efforcent à immortaliser le moment.

La soirée se termine évidement avec la chanson Wings of Steel sous une pluie d’ovations largement mérités. Les musiciens heureux et souriants, saluent et serrent des mains et reviendrons plus tard dans la salle pour signer des autographes et discuter avec les fans.

En termes d’exécution et technicité, on a à faire à des experts : Leo Unnermark peut faire tout ce qu’il veut avec sa voix. Explosive, planante, mélancolique ou haute perchée, sa gamme vocale est stratosphérique. Parker Halub est un véritable guitar hero : il nous a fracassé à coup des riffs tranchants et des solos vertigineux, majestueux et élégants l’un plus fantastique que l’autre.

Et ce duo titanesque a su s’entourer de musiciens très talentueux : Stefan John-Bailet est excellent à la guitare alors la section rythmique brille tout au long de concert et délivre même des solos : de batterie (Marcel Binder) et de basse (Mathieu Trobec) parfaitement exécutés.

Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Queensrÿche, Black Sabbath….Wings Of Steel sont les dignes héritiers de ces groupes légendaires, tout en créant leur propre style exquis : modern et follement accrocheur. La carrière de ces musiciens doués et passionnés ne fait que commencer.

The glorious new era of hard rock and heavy metal starts with them: WINGS OF STEEL. We’ve already introduced you the American band here, but in case you don’t know them yet, here’s a short reminder.

In 2022, the combo released an eponymous EP, followed in 2023 by a huge great debut album: “Gates of Twilight”, a true ode to classic hard rock & heavy metal that was love at first sight (or rather at first listen) and obviously featured in our ROCK ART FASHION “best of 2023”.

The band formed by Leo Unnermark (vocals), Parker Halub (guitar) supported by Stefan John-Bailet (rhythm guitar) embarked last April on its first headlining tour in Europe (Germany, France, Belgium) and also performs at several festivals like KEEP IT TRUE FEST and ROCK HARD FEST.

On this occasion the combo, joined by the German drummer, Marcel Binder and the Belgian bassist, Mathieu Trobec performed in Paris at Les Etoiles, on May 16, 2024 and we could not miss this exciting event!

When we arrived at the venue around 7:45 p.m., the venue is well packed and we immediately saw that it was rather connoisseurs of genres who had made the trip to attend this event.

The Parisian heavy metal band, FURIES, opens the hostilities at 8 p.m. As their name suggests, their show will be furious: a sequence of hard and heavy energetic songs, sometimes heavier and darker, often embellished with melodic passages perfectly mastered by the very smiling singer, Cheyenne Janas. Her powerful voice is superimposed on the complex riffs delivered by the guitar duo, Guillaume Jockey and Fred Bend, to which we add a percussive rhythmic thanks to ZAZA Lavarenne (the founder of the band), a real “fury” behind her drum kit and the radiant bassist/backup singer, Lucie Sue.

The very friendly and communicative band is obviously very happy to be there (it’s their first Parisian concert in 4 years) and will brilliantly prepare the ground for what will follow.

Their debut album “Fortune’s Gate” is available as well as their most recent single “Stars of Burning Lands“. To listen to quickly!

Around 9:10 p.m., WINGS OF STEEL arrives on stage and starts with a bang, Fall in Line, a perfect introductory track with its galloping rhythm and excellent melody. We are immediately glued to the burning riffs delivered by Parker Haloub, Guitar God, shirtless, bandana in his ultra long hair, bandana tied to the guitar and skull scarf hanging on the pocket of his leather pants.

In the same way, Leo Unnermark’s magnificent, incredible voice immediately calls out to us with its beauty and its ultra-powerful timbre. The charismatic singer who wears a bandana in his hair and a 100% leather look seduces us from the beginning with his warm behavoir: smiles, knowing glances and clapping hands with the lucky ones who are in the front rows. Rock n’ Roll attitude.

Bluesy Hard Rock, melodic power metal, a Guitar God, an extraordinary singer, flamboyant melodies, catchy songs, WINGS OF STEEL, perform an IMPRESSIVE concert tonight in Paris.

Lady of the Lost follows and the blues infiltrates heavy metal with brilliance. The emotional, slightly melancholic voice works perfectly with the hallucinating guitars. Cry of the Damned brings back the energy and heavy power again while Leather and Lace reveals a superb rock and blues rhythm with its little vibe “Black Velvet” by Allanah Myles that I looooove.

Superb “Scorpions anthem” atmosphere big arena created by She Cries, a huge ballad or rather a half-ballad that accelerates in its second half thanks to burnings riffs and rhythms. In the room, many light their phone torches and sway in the rhythm.

Gates of Twilight, the title track of the album, amazes us with the guitar solo and the very effective singing. Rhythm of Desire will be introduced by a huge Parke’s solo, while Leo’s voice, sometimes warm and sometimes high, fascinates us. Some in the crowd chant their names.

The musicians are moved by such a welcome and Leo did not fail to thank all those who came to see them several times during the evening.

New blues vibes that give chills with the superb Garden of Eden and its crying guitars and this fabulous bluesy voice Coverdale/Tate like. Two excellent covers of Black Sabbath’s Heaven and Hell (dedicated to Ronnie James Dio) and the ultra-energetic Creeping Death of Metallica are interspersed with Slave of Sorrows, a slow track in where Leo perfectly demonstrates his incredible vocal range and Parker his spectacular prowess on the guitar. The audience is in awe.

My two favorite tracks of the album will be left for last: first, Liar in Love with Leo’s new demonstration of his amazing singing that seems so easy and so natural for him and Into the Sun where the twin guitars play the main role. An epic and versatile song, full of twists and turns. Parker will do a real guitar hero act by throwing themselves on the ground. Phones and cameras strive to immortalize the moment.

The evening ended in a shower of well-deserved ovations. The musicians, happy and smiling, greet, shake hands, and will come later to sign autographs at their merchandising stand.

In terms of execution and technicality, we are dealing with experts: Leo Unnermark can do anything he wants with his voice. Explosive, soaring, melancholic or high-pitched, his vocal range is stratospheric. Parker Halub is a real guitar hero: he smashed us with sharp riffs and dizzying, majestic and elegant solos, one more fantastic than the other, all night long.

And this titanic duo has surrounded itself with very talented musicians: Stefan John-Bailet is excellent on rhythm guitar while the rhythm section shines throughout the concert and delivers perfectly executed drum solos (Marcel Binder) and bass (Mathieu Trobec).

Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Queensrÿche, Black Sabbath….Wings Of Steel are the worthy heirs of these legendary bands, while creating their own exquisite style: modern and wildly catchy. The career of these gifted and passionate musicians have only just begun!
