Le 16 janvier 2026, SOEN, le groupe suédois mené par Joel Ekelöf (vocal) et Martin Lopez (batterie) a dévoilé son septième album, Reliance.Une collection de 10 titres à travers lesquelles la création artistique de SOEN s’exprime dans toute sa splendeur.

Depuis la formation du groupe en 2010, grâce à des albums tels que Tellurian (2014), Lotus (2019) ou Imperial (2021), le groupe a affiné un langage musical où le métal progressif se mêle à un hard rock mélodique puisant et atmosphérique.

L’art du contraste devenu signature

La musique de SOEN est marquée par une recherche constante de l’équilibre : entre la lourdeur des guitares et la légèreté des arrangements, entre la densité émotionnelle et la limpidité des mélodies. Cette dualité se retrouve dans la structure même des morceaux, qui alternent passages tempétueux et accalmies lumineuses, offrant à l’auditeur une expérience immersive et nuancée.

Sur chaque morceau, SOEN joue sur les contrastes : les textures sombres des couplets laissent place à des envolées lumineuses, les moments de tension se résolvent dans des plages apaisées, et chaque chanson devient une traversée des émotions humaines, de la colère à la douceur, de la douleur à l’espoir.

Et Reliance ne fait pas l’exception : le premier titre, PRIMAL, et son motifrythmique sombre et menaçant, exploitant les contrastes dynamiques, les riffs agressifs et les grandes mélodies donne le ton. Ses paroles poignantes décrivaient la lutte existentielle entre l’esprit humain et le monde qui nous entoure actuellement. L’affirmation « Into the dark We’ll find the light» – sonne comme un manifeste.  

Mercenary prolonge cette énergie brute, avec une guitare nerveuse et des lignes vocales qui frappent juste « Crowing Vultures Into Kings » prend tous son de sens dans le monde actuel.

Dans le magnifique Discordia, plus introspectif, Ekelöf navigue entre fragilité spectrale et intensité sublime, tandis que la guitare oscille entre agressivité et élégance.

Huntress porté par la voix extraordinaire de Joel tantôt puissante tantôt douce et murmurée est un morceau magnifiquement atmosphérique avec un refrain percutant et un solo parfaitement maîtrisé par Cody Ford.

Indifferent, s’aventure encore plus loin dans l’émotion. Ballade poignante et dépouillé , portée principalement par le piano et le chant superbe et contemplatif d’Ekelöf. Le solo de Ford, presque plaintif, y ajoute une profondeur bouleversante.

Des paroles imprégnées de thèmes d’abandon et de perte qui s’interrogent avec désespoir « How does someone become so heartless, Ripping into my chest? How does someone become so cold and Indifferent »

Les frappes complexes et inventives de Lopez culminent sur Draconian, couronnée également par un solo de guitare brillant.

Vellichor clôture l’album en beauté. Un morceau raffiné et atmosphérique qui monte en puissance. Un crescendo mélodique, un refrain percutant et un autre moment solo magnifique.

Les refrains les plus aboutis de la discographie du groupe

Les refrains de Reliance s’imposent comme de véritables sommets émotionnels. Leur beauté réside dans leur simplicité apparente qui cache une grande sophistication harmonique, une sensibilité à fleur de peau et surtout une grande élégance en accentuant l’aspect mélodique et hymnique.

Portés par la voix expressive de Joel Ekelöf, ils s’élèvent au-dessus du tissage instrumental pour offrir des moments de grâce et d’intensité. La voix de Joel Ekelöf est sans doute l’un des piliers de l’album. Capable de passer d’un murmure éthéré à une clameur puissante, tantôt fragile, tantôt impérieuse, sa voix guide l’auditeur à travers les méandres émotionnels de chaque morceau, donnant chair et âme aux textes.

Chaque membre contribue avec clarté et détermination, et c’est sans doute l’exemple le plus évident de leur art combiné tout au long du disque. Chacun apporte sa touche : la frappe forte et virtuose de Martin Lopez, les claviers chatoyants, aériens et luxuriantes de Lars Enok Åhlund, la basse solide et profonde de Stefan Stenberg et la guitare inspirée et les solos flamboyantes et expansifs de Cody Lee Ford.

Les paroles sont toujours aussi sincères et humaines. SOEN aborde des sujets sombres, mais laissent toujours filtrer une lueur d’espoir :  la lutte et la persévérance tout en affrontant la corruption, l’isolement et la fragilité émotionnelle et la lutte intérieure, la résilience, la quête de lumière au cœur de l’obscurité.

Un album déjà incontournable

En conclusion, Reliance, s’impose comme un album majeur, où les mélodies raffinées, les riffs, les refrains, la lumière et l’obscurité, la voix et chaque instrument s’entrelacent pour offrir une expérience musicale exceptionnelle. Déjà dans notre liste de BEST OF 2026.

SOEN confirme ici sa pleine maturité artistique : un groupe sûr de son identité, capable de se réinventer sans jamais se trahir. Un groupe au sommet de son ART !

On January 16, 2026, SOEN, the Swedish band led by Joel Ekelöf (vocals) and Martin Lopez (drums) unveiled their seventh album, Reliance. A collection of 10 tracks through which SOEN’s artistic creation is expressed in all its splendour.

Since the formation of the band in 2010, thanks to albums such as Tellurian (2014), Lotus (2019) or Imperial (2021), the band has refined a musical language where progressive metal is mixed with a powerful and atmospheric melodic hard rock.

The art of contrast that has become a signature

SOEN’s music is marked by a constant search for balance: between the heaviness of the guitars and the lightness of the arrangements, between the emotional density and the clarity of the melodies. This duality is found in the very structure of the tracks, which alternate stormy passages and luminous lulls, offering the listener an immersive and nuanced experience.

On each track, SOEN plays on contrasts: the dark textures of the verses give way to luminous flights, the moments of tension are resolved in peaceful tracks, and each song becomes a crossing of human emotions, from anger to sweetness, from pain to hope.

 And Reliance is no exception: the first song, PRIMAL and its dark and menacing rhythmic pattern, exploiting dynamic contrasts, aggressive riffs and great melodies gives the tone. Its poignant words described the existential struggle between the human spirit and the world around us today. The statement “Into the dark We’ll find the light, we are breaking every chain” – sounds like a manifesto. 

Mercenary extends this raw energy, with a nervous guitar and vocal lines that hit perfectly:  «Crowing Vultures Into Kings” all makes sense in today’s world.

In the magnificent Discordia, more introspective, Ekelöf navigates between spectral fragility and sublime intensity, while the guitar oscillates between aggressiveness and elegance.

Huntress, carried by Joel’s extraordinary voice, sometimes powerful, sometimes soft and whispered, is a beautifully atmospheric track with a hard-hitting chorus and a solo perfectly mastered by Cody Ford.

Indifferent, ventures even further into emotion. A poignant and uncluttered ballad, carried mainly by the piano and Ekelöf’s superb and contemplative singing. Ford’s solo, almost plaintive, adds a moving depth.

Lyrics imbued with themes of abandonment and loss that desperately ask  “How does someone become so heartless, Ripping into my chest? How does someone become so cold and Indifferent?”

Lopez’s inventive and intricate hits culminate on Draconian, also crowned by a brilliant guitar solo.

Vellichor closes the album in style. A refined and atmospheric track that is gaining momentum. A melodic crescendo, a hard-hitting chorus and another magnificent solo moment.

The most accomplished choruses of the band’s discography

The choruses of Reliance stand out as real emotional peaks. Their beauty lies in their apparent simplicity which hides a great harmonic sophistication, a sensitive sensibility and above all a great elegance by accentuating the melodic and anthemic aspect.

Carried by the expressive voice of Joel Ekelöf, they rise above the instrumental weave to offer moments of grace and intensity. Joel Ekelöf’s voice is undoubtedly one of the pillars of the album. Able to go from an ethereal whisper to a powerful clamour, sometimes fragile, sometimes imperious, his voice guides the listener through the emotional meanders of each track, giving flesh and soul to the lyrics.

Each member contributes with clarity and determination, and this is arguably the most obvious example of their combined artistry throughout the record. Each one brings its own touch: the strong and virtuoso strike of Martin Lopez, the shimmering, airy and lush keyboards of Lars Enok Åhlund, the solid and deep bass of Stefan Stenberg and the inspired guitar and the flamboyant and expansive solos of Cody Lee Ford.

The lyrics are as sincere and human as ever. SOEN tackles dark subjects, but always lets a glimmer of hope filter through struggle and perseverance while confronting corruption, isolation and emotional fragility and inner struggle, resilience, the search for light in the heart of darkness.

A must album already

In conclusion, Reliance, stands out as a major album, where refined melodies, riffs, choruses, light and dark, vocals and each instrument intertwine to offer an exceptionnel musical experience. Already in our list of BEST OF 2026.

SOEN confirms here its full artistic maturity: a band sure of its identity, capable of reinventing itself without ever betraying itself. A band at the top of its ART.
