Entamée le 15 avril 2025 à l’AO Arena de Manchester, en Angleterre, la tournée gigantesque de GHOST, Skeletour World Tour » (pas moins de 55 concerts en Europe, au Royaume-Uni, aux États-Unis et au Mexique dans les Arénas les plus célèbres de la planète, dont le Madison Square Garden de New York, le 22 juillet) faisait escale à Paris à Accor ARENA, le 13 Mai 2025 pour une concert annoncé SOLD OUT !

En quasiment 14 ans depuis leur premier concert en France, sous une tente, au Hellfest, le groupe mené par Tobias Forge est passé du statut de petit groupe suédois anonyme à celui de mastodonte des arénas du monde entier.

Car oui, en 2025, GHOST semble être au sommet de sa carrière et sa popularité ne cesse de grandir. Skeletà, son sixième et nouvel album s’est classé n°1 des ventes aux Billboard USA, chose qui n’était pas arrivée pour un album de “hard rock” depuis “Power Up” d’AC/DC, en novembre 2020.

Le disque a également atteint le sommet des charts en Suède, Allemagne, Australie, Suisse, Autriche, Belgique, Finlande et n°2 en Angleterre et au Canada et aussi en France, où il est entré directement à la 4ème place du Top album.

A Paris, trois ans se sont écoulés depuis la dernière « messe » du groupe suédois, au même endroit, les fidèles avaient donc hâte de recevoir de nouveau la bénédiction du nouveau Papa V Perpetua!

Vue que le rituel est annoncé sans téléphones portables (« pour que les moments entre les fans et le groupe soit inoubliables ») qui seront placés dans des pochettes individuelles, on arrive tôt, vers 18h45, par crainte que le processus va causer beaucoup d’attente et on va rater le début prévu à 20 h (pas de première partie)

Certes, la file d’attente est longue mais l’accès est plutôt fluide et l’entrée se fait rapidement (curieusement on me confisque la mini bouteille de gel hydroalcoolique car « inflammable » ! Du jamais vu dans un concert !).

A l’intérieur, la sale se remplie lentement et des fans de tous les âges, visages maquillés ou pas, vêtus des T- Shirt à l’effigie de Ghost ou juste des vêtements noirs s’impatientent et discutent bruyamment, faute de ne pas pouvoir consulter son téléphone tous les 2 secondes (Tant mieux!)

Je ne sais pas quelle heure il est exactement (j’ai oublié de prendre ma montre!) quand les lumières dans la salle s’éteignent et des chants religieux entrecoupés par des doux accords de piano retentissent.

C’est un peu long et le bourdonnement progressif de la salle (maintenant archi pleine) se fait entendre de plus en plus fort. Les fans applaudissent, lèvent les bras et crient à chaque mouvement du lourd rideau tailladé et caverneux qui laisse apercevoir la lumière sur la scène.

Enfin l’intro de Peacefield, extrait du nouvel album, démarre et le groupe fait son entrée. Le rideau est toujours en place et sur les écrans l’latéraux Tobias Forge alias Papa V Perpetua, nous fixe derrière son nouveau masque métallique. Your love, bright as the starlight Oh, child, still we can see A black moon, over the peacefield Oh, child, stay close to me… la foule chante le refrain avec ferveur.

L’excitation est au maximum quand enfin, vers la moitié de la chanson, le rideau tombe et la scène magistrale se dévoile devant nous yeux ébahis.

On découvre avec stupéfaction la scénographie impressionnante ainsi que et les Ghoules et le Ghoulettes avec leurs instruments et leurs costumes magnifiques.

La batterie surélevée située en haut d’une rangée de marches illuminées est flanquée par deux socles façon colonnades de cathédrale où sont installés trois choristes/claviéristes. Ce groupe est complété par deux guitaristes et un bassiste.

La scène est surplombée par une immense rampe lumineuse en forme du logo du groupe : un G fusionné dans une croix renversée.

Le Papa fait son apparition sous de fortes acclamations et à peine le temps de comprendre ce qui nous arrive, Lachryma, le deuxième extrait de Skeletá, vient mettre le feu avec son superbe synthé new wave et ses riffs incandescents. L’ambiance monte d’un cran. Le ton est donné !

Hit après hit, en total 21 titres, s’enchaîneront avec une dynamique vertigineuse.

Les éclairages changent aux fils de chansons : du vert au violet, du blanc au rouge. De la fumée s’échappe comme des profondeurs de l’enfer et s’enroule autour des musiciens. De temps en temps, des colonnes de feux ou d’artifices surgissent.

En arrière-plan, un écran 180° incurvé d’abord caché par de rideaux se transformera en vitraux de cathédrale, pour diffusent ensuite des images étourdissantes qui évoluent à chaque morceau : des statues gotiques, personnages surréalistes, etc

Les écrans situés des deux côtés de la scène diffusent des images des musiciens, des plans rapprochées, remarquablement filmés qui nous permettront d’observer les détails des visages et des costumes, même si on est située loin de la scène. Le spectacle est monumental.

Le son est un peu brouillon sur les premiers morceaux avec la section rythmique basse -batterie trop mise en avant faisant vibrer les gradins et rendant la voix un peu difficile à distinguer, mais il s’améliorera rapidement et va être clair, lourd et admirablement mélodique jusqu’à la fin du concert !

Si le show démarre avec deux extraits de Skeletá, le SET LIST ne contiendra que deux autres morceaux supplémentaires du nouvel album : Satanized qui s’avère être le préféré du public et le sublime UMBRA.

Il est clair que ce soir, GHOST a plutôt choisi de nous offrir une incursion dans leur vaste discographie avec les favoris des fans de toutes les époques.

Une place importante sera accordée notamment à l’album Meliora (6 morceaux) : le grandiose Cirice, Mummy Dust, He Is, Majesty, Devil Church, Spirit et l’incontournable, From the Pinnacle to the Pit.

Un seul morceau Ritual représente Opus Eponymous, leur premier album.

Moment suspendu avec Call Me Little Sunshine, extrait d’Impera, qui nous donner l’occasion de découvrir les superbes nouveaux habits pontificaux – violet et argenté- de Papa V Perpetua qui interprète le morceau en lévitation. Une apparition divine !

De frissons garantis par les riffs lourds et le chant obsédant « Bélial, Béhémoth, Belzébuth, Asmodée, Satanas, Lucifer » de Year Zero joué dans un ambiance rouge sang. Papa V portera à l’occasion un autre d’habit pontifical, plus épuré et une mitre impressionnante.

Cet outfit sera conservé pour interpréter le magistral He Is. Les fans chanteront émerveillés le refrain et quelques flammes de briquets s’allument à la place des habituels torches de téléphones portables.

Le sinistre Rats sera accompagné par de projections infernales et le trés heavy  Mummy Dust se termine en feu d’artifice visuel et des jets de billets confettis à l’effigie de Ghost.

Le show se clôtura avec Monstrance Clock, au plus grand bonheur des fans en effervescence qui chantent « Come together, Together as one, Come together, For Lucifer’s son » !

Alors que Tobias Forge nous prévient qu’ils ont a déjà chanté leurs meilleures chansons, en rappel, le triptyque d’anthologie : Mary On a Cross, Danse Macabre et l’inévitable Square Hammer sera interprété dans une ambiance de folie. Les gradins sont debout, les fans sont hystériques ! Tout le monde est sous emprise du rituel !

Comme habitude Tobias Forge alias Papa V Perpetua est au centre de l’attention, prêche sa bonne parole avec grâce et mène le show théâtral à la baguette.

Il apparait et disparait sous nos yeux et impressionne avec ses multiples changements de tenues : il est mince et élégant dans son costume noir cuir-satin, ses vestes pailletées : rose ou argentée ou dans ses tenues pontificales flamboyantes mais beaucoup plus chic et sobres qu’avant. Plus raffiné est aussi son nouveau masque métallique qui couvre maintenant partiellement son visage et qui sera remplacé vers le milieu du show par un autre incrusté des pierres qui brille de mille feux.

Il s’est aussi assagi, car Tobias Forge parle moins qu’avant. Il ne manque pas d’évoquer le parcours du groupe et de remercier les fans d’être là, mais ses longs discours et ses plaisanteries un peu lourdes ont été abandonnées.

Les Ghouls & Ghoulettes font leur show. Masqués et parés de leurs nouveaux costumes noirs – pailletées façon squelettes qui scintillent dans les lumières, complétés par des ailes de chauves-souris, queues de pies, des couvre-chefs de nonne ou des hauts de forme, ils se lancent dans des chorégraphies, de duels de guitares (même si un de guitarises porte une botte-attelle- il ne lésine pas dans les mouvements), des solos et des passages instrumentaux en parfaite interaction avec le frontman et avec le public.

Ce soir, GHOST se réinvente et accompli une réussite magistrale ! Le groupe suédois électrise l’Accor Arena avec une performance impressionnante, parfaitement orchestré qui a coché toutes les cases : les refrains hymniques et les tubes grandioses, une chorégraphie admirable, des nouveaux costumes et masques éblouissantes, une théâtralité et une mise en scène magistrale. Plus un chef d’ouvre audiovisuel qu’un simple concert rock!

L’atmosphère a été dingue tout au long du concert. Les fans enthousiastes ont réagi à chaque morceau :  nouveau ou ancien et n’ont pas semblés frustrés de ne pas pouvoir utiliser leurs téléphones pour immortaliser ces moments inoubliables. La congrégation est totalement convertie ! CONCERT GRANDIOSE!

Kicking off on April 15, 2025 at the AO Arena in Manchester, England, GHOST‘s gigantic Skeletour World Tour (no less than 55 concerts in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Mexico in the world’s most famous arenas, including New York’s Madison Square Garden on July 22) made a stop in Paris at Accor ARENA, May 13, 2025 for a SOLD-OUT gig.

In almost 14 years since their first concert in France, under a tent, at Hellfest, the band led by Tobias Forge has gone from being a small anonymous Swedish band to a mastodon of arenas around the world.

Because yes, right now, GHOST seems to be at the peak of its career and its popularity doesn’t stop growing. Skeletà, his sixth and new album, ranked No. 1 in sales in the USA Billboard, something that had not happened for a “hard rock” album since AC/DC’s “Power Up” in November 2020.

The record also reached the top of the charts in Sweden, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Finland and No. 2 in England and Canada while in France, it entered directly at the 4th place of the Top album.

In Paris, three years have passed since the last “mass” of the Swedish group, in the same place, so the faithful fans were eager to be blessed again. 

Since the ritual is announced free mobile phones (“so that the moments between the fans and the band are unforgettable”) which will be placed in individual pouches and that the start is scheduled for 8 p.m. without opening acts, we arrive early, around 6:45 p.m., for fear that there will be a lot of waiting. 

For sure, the queue is long, but the access is rather fluid, and the entrance is quick (Stange fact : the security confiscate the mini bottle of hydroalcoholic gel because it is “flammable”! Never happens before in a concert!).

Inside, the venue is slowly filling up and fans of all ages, faces made up or not, most of them wearing T-shirts with Ghost image or just black outfits are getting impatient and chatting loudly, because they can’t check their phone every 2 seconds ( that’s not bad at all)

I don’t know what time it is exactly (I forgot to take my watch) when the lights in the room go out and religious songs interspersed with soft piano chords resound. It’s a bit long and the progressive hum in the room (now over crowded) is heard louder and louder. Fans applaud, raise their arms and shout at every movement of the heavy, cavernous, slashed curtain that lets the light on the stage be seen.

Finally, the intro of Peacefield, out of the new album, is heard and the band makes its entrance. The curtain is still in place and on the screens the full-backs Tobias Forge aka Papa V Perpetua, stares at us behind his new metal mask. Your love, bright as the starlight Oh, child, still we can see A black moon, over the peacefield Oh, child, stay close to me… The crowd sings the refrain fervently.

The excitement is at its maximum when finally, halfway through the song, the curtain falls, and the masterful stage is revealed before our astonished eyes.  We discover with amazement the impressive scenography as well as the Nameless Ghoules with their magnificent instruments and costumes.

The raised drum set at the top of a row of illuminated steps is flanked by two cathedral-like pedestals where three choristers/keyboardists are installed. This band is completed by two guitarists and a bassist.

The stage is overlooked by a huge light bar in the shape of the band’s logo: a G fused into an inverted cross.  The Papa appears under loud cheers and barely time to understand what is happening to us, Lachryma, the second single from Skeletá, comes to set fire with its superb new wave synth and its incandescent riffs. The atmosphere goes up a notch. The tone is set! 

Hit after hit, in total 21 tracks, will follow one another with a dizzying dynamic.  The lighting changes with the threads of the songs: from green to purple, from white to red. Smoke rises like from the depths of hell and wraps around the musicians. From time to time, columns of fireworks or fireworks appear.

In the background, a curved 180° screen first hidden by curtains will be transformed into cathedral-stained glass windows, to then broadcast dizzying images that evolve with each piece: Gothic statues, surrealist characters, etc.

The screens located on both sides of the stage broadcast images of the musicians, close-ups, remarkably filmed that will allow us to observe the details of the faces and costumes, even if we are located far from the stage. The spectacle is monumental.

The sound is a bit messy on the first tracks with the bass-drums rhythm section too much highlighted making the stands vibrate and the vocals a little difficult to distinguish, but it will improve quickly and will stay clear, heavy and admirably melodic until the end of the concert!

If the show starts with two songs from Skeletá, the SET LIST will contain only two other additional tracks from the new album: Satanized which turns out to be the audience’s favourite and the sublime UMBRA.

It’s clear that tonight, GHOST has chosen to offer us a foray into their vast discography with fan favourites from all eras.  An important place will be given to the album Meliora (6 tracks) with the grandiose Cirice, Mummy Dust, He Is, Majesty, Devil Church, Spirit and the unmissable, From the Pinnacle to the Pit.

A single track, Ritual, represents Opus Eponymous, their first album.

Suspended moment with Call Me Little Sunshine, taken from Impera, which gives us the opportunity to discover the superb new pontifical vestments – purple and silver – of Papa V Perpetua who interprets the song in levitation. A divine apparition!

Thrills guaranteed by the heavy riffs and the haunting vocals “Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer” of Year Zero performed in a blood-red atmosphere. Papa V will occasionally wear another of the papal habits, more refined and an impressive mitre. This outfit will be kept for performing the masterful He Is. Fans will sing the chorus in awe and a few lighter flames are lit instead of the usual mobile phone torches.

The sinister Rats will be accompanied by infernal projections and the very heavy Mummy Dust ends in visual fireworks and confetti banknotes thrown with the effigy of Ghost.

The show will end with Monstrance Clock, to the delight of the fans in effervescence who sang « Come together, Together as one, Come together, For Lucifer’s son » 

While Tobias Forge warns us that they have already sung their best songs, as an encore, the anthology triptych: Mary On a Cross, Danse Macabre and the inevitable Square Hammer will be performed in a crazy atmosphere. The stands are up, the fans are hysterical! Everyone is under the influence of the ritual!

As usual, Tobias Forge aka Papa V Perpetua is the centre of attention, preaches the good word with grace and leads the theatrical show!

He appears and disappears before our eyes and impresses with his multiple outfit changes: he is slim and elegant in his black leather-satin suit, his sequined jackets: pink or silver or in his flamboyant pontifical outfits much more chic and sober than before. More refined is also his new metallic mask which now partially covers his face, and which will be replaced towards the middle of the show by another one encrusted with stones that shines with a thousand lights. 

He has also calmed down, because he talks less than before. He does not fail to talk about the band’s journey and thank the fans for being there, but his long speeches and his naughty jokes have been abandoned.

The Nameless Ghouls are also on the top. Masked and adorned with their new black costumes – sequined like skeletons that sparkle in the lights, completed by bat wings, tailcoats, nuns’ hats or top hats, they launch into choreographies, guitar duels (even if one of the guitar player wears a splint boot – he doesn’t skimp on the movements),  solos and instrumental passages in perfect interaction with the frontman and with the audience.

Tonight in Paris, GHOST is reinventing and achieve une mastefull succes! The Swedish band electrifies the Accor Arena with an impressive, perfectly orchestrated performance that ticks all the boxes: anthemic choruses and grandiose hits, admirable choreography, dazzling new costumes and masks, theatricality and masterful staging. It was more of an audiovisual masterpiece than a simple rock concert.

The atmosphere was crazy throughout the concert. Enthusiastic fans reacted to each track: new or old and didn’t seem frustrated at not being able to use their phones to capture these unforgettable moments. The congregation is totally converted! GRANDIOSE GIG !
