ARE YOU READY TO ROCK? HEAVY WEEK-END s’apprête à faire rugir les décibels à Nancy ! Après une superbe première édition en juin 2024 qui avait réuni des légendes du hard rock et du heavy metal, le festival est de retour au Zenith dans le cadre Nancy Open-Air les 6, 7 et 8 juin 2025.

Trois jours de folies métalliques en tous genres qui s’annoncent très intenses et fortes en émotion car cette année, encore une fois, HEAVY WEEK-END a réuni un line up impressionnant : SLIPKNOT, DREAM THEATER, POWERWOLF, EUROPE, SAXON, MASS HYSTERIA, ADRIAN VANDENBERG, BATTLE BEAST, WINGS OF STEEL, VANDEN PLAS, NOTHING MORE et RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR seront de la partiepour nous faire vibrer.

Avec cette belle brochette d’artistes qui s’inscrivent dans les différents styles que compte le « metal », HEAVY WEEK-END réaffirme sa vocation à présenter des grands noms en tête d’affiche, mais aussi à permettre à des jeunes groupes d’être découverts par un public plus large, ou à des « anciens » de se produire à nouveau en France.

Le 22 avril, nous avons eu la chance d’assister à la conférence de presse de Mathieu Drouot PDG de Gérard Drouot Productions, l’organisateur du festival. A cette occasion nous avons appris plein de choses sur le festival. Lors de même évènement Yann HEURTAUX de Mass Hysteria et Andy Kuntz (chant) et Stephan Lill (guitare) du groupe Vanden Plas ont répondu à quelques questions.

Le Festival HEAVY WEEK-END – Un format Hybride

HEAVY WEEK-END un festival qui a l’ambition de présenter quelque chose de nouveau. L’idée est de réinventer le projet de festival.

HEAVY WEEK-END propose un format hybride avec des capacités d’accueil pour tout le monde dans un amphithéâtre à ciel ouvert : une fosse +15000 places assises, en total le Zenith peut accueillir 25000 personnes par jour.

Par rapport au format d’un festival standard qui présente des concerts sur plusieurs scènes, à HEAVY WEEK-END, il y a une seule scène où se déroulent 12 concerts en 3 jours. Le rythme est effréné mais on n’a pas l’embarrât du choix !

On assite à 4 -5 h de musique de 17h30 à 23h30 et les artistes présentent un full show de 1h30 pour les headliners, 40 min – 1 heures pour les autres.

Avec sa programmation pointue, le festival veut rassembler une communauté autour d’un événement qui met tout le monde d’accord.

L’équipe de festival compte 40 personnes qui travaille dur pour trouver le bon format et mettre en place tout l’accueil logistique, technique pour que pour que l’expérience soit au rendez-vous.

Le festival affiche une volonté de faire quelque chose de différent de que ce qu’on peut trouver ailleurs en France ou en Europe.

Mathieu Drouot a souligné plusieurs fois que c’est un projet qui a vocation à s’installer à Nancy et de perdurer.

Pour l’instant, le festival ne reçoit pas de subvention locale ou d’État, ce qui peut expliquer que les prix des places sont peut-être considérés plus chers que pour d’autres festivals.

Le but est que le festival se fasse connaître et que à l’avenir il peut rassembler des soutiens.

Cette année le festival propose une multitude de Pass à des tarifs spécifiques notamment de Pass étudiant/ jeunes de moins de 30 ans mais aussi de Pass friends (Billets disponibles pour les groupes de 3 personnes minimum)

LES DATES DU FESTIVAL 6-8 Juin

Le choix des dates début juin a été fait pour plusieurs raisons :

D’abord, pour se distancer de Hellfest (difficile pour toute l’équipe d’enchaîner deux weekends intensifs de festivals comme l’année dernière, mais aussi pour les spectateurs qui vont participer aux deux festivals).

Il n’y a pas d’autres festivals en France qui peuvent entrer en conflit.

C’est une bonne période pour la région de Nancy, car les gens ne sont pas encore partis pour les vacances d’été.

Cette période est aussi la garantie d’avoir des groupes disponibles parce qu’ils commencent en général la période de festivals au Sweden Rock (qui se déroule en même temps que Heavy Week End cette année) et terminent après le Hellfest.

Le lieu du Festival – ZENITH de NANCY

Le Zenith de Nancy a été choisi pour plusieurs raisons. D’abord Mathieu Drouot a une vraie affection pour l’Est de la France et connait bien la région car il est originaire de Strasbourg et Il a participé à des nombreuse Hard Rock sessions à la Foire au vin de Colmar (évènement qui n’existent plus aujourd’hui).

Le Zénith de Nancy qui a été construit il y a plus de 20 ans est un lieu chargé d’histoire où AC/DC et Guns N’Roses ont joué. C’est un lieu un peu sous-exploité. Il y a donc beaucoup de choses à faire pour rappeler les bons vieux souvenirs à ceux qui ont connu ces concerts et aussi de convaincre les plus jeunes générations de faire perdurer cette tradition rock.

L’idée principale est de ramener le Rock’n’Roll à Nancy !

Le Zenith de Nancy offre un super son, l’endroit bénéficie d’une très bonne acoustique et tous les moyens techniques y sont mis en place.

Nancy est une ville accessible, facile d’accès pour les groupes en tournée en Europe et facile de se rendre aussi pour les spectateurs. Une bonne infrastructure avec des autoroutes mais aussi un réseau ferroviaire – par exemple, les Parisiens peuvent se rendre facilement en train (1h30 – 2h de trajet)

Nancy est aussi facile d’accès aussi pour les spectateurs de pays voisins, le festival est promu aux Benelux et Allemagne.

Last but not least, Nancy est une ville magnifique où il fait bon vivre – les festivaliers peuvent assister à un weekend des concerts, mais pouvoir consacrer la journée à découvrir la ville.

Concernant l’accessibilité des personnes à mobilité réduite, les organisateurs ont mis tous les moyens en place. Il ya un accès dédié et les emplacements PMR sont les meilleures places de la salle.

LA PROGRAMATION

Heavy Week-end souhaite proposer des groupes qui ne sont peut-être pas assez ou qui sont sous représentés dans d’autres festivals, de créer donc un événement où ils peuvent se produire.

La venue très attendue de SLIPKNOT, DREAM THEATER et de POWERWOLF génère une forte affluence.

Le festival affiche sa volonté de faire une bonne place aux groupes français : cette année MASS HYSTERIA et RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR.

Après la programmation de l’année dernière avec en tête d’affiche les vétérans SCORPIONS, DEEP PURPLE, ALICE COOPER ou JUDAS PRIEST, cette année la programmation est ouverte à des groupes plus jeunes (par exemple WINGS OF STEEL ou NOTHING MORE) pour montrer tout le dynamisme de la scène rock et métal et se tourner vers l’avenir.

Avenged Sevenfold et Opeth n’ont pas pu venir à cause des programmes très charges.

Retour sur l’Edition 2024

La première édition en 2024 a reçu un excellent retour et a réuni 35 k festivaliers sur les 3 jours.

Cette première édition a été déficitaire, mais c’est un peu normal pour un première édition   événement de ne pas arriver à l’équilibre dès la première.

L’année dernière il y a eu un déficit de toilettes – très peu pour autant de buveurs de bières mais cette année ce problème sera corrigé.

Des projections sur les prochaines éditions

C’est trop tôt pour connaitre les groupes à l‘affiche en 2026 mais c’est sûr qu’il n’y aura pas AC/DC ou Manowar!

Les dates 2026 ne peuvent pas être annoncées car il faudra que le festival soit assez flexible en fonction de la disponibilité des groupes :  si 2 ou 3 noms très importants peuvent venir à Heavy Weekend il faudra s’adapter.

Le festival gère avec le Zenith de Nancy la réservation de plusieurs weekends et les date serons décidées en fonction des réponses des groupes. Il faudra aussi attendre le bilan de l’édition de cette année qui confirmera si début juin est la bonne période !

ADRIAN VANDENBERG -WHITESNAKE –Here I Go Again

Le hollandais ADRIAN VANDENBERG ouvrira les hostilités le vendredi avec un show consacré à un monument du hard rock : Whitesnake.

Le guitar-hero néerlandais avait rejoint le groupe de David Coverdale en 1987 lorsque celui-ci dominait les charts US grâce au succès du hit “Here I Go Again”, sur lequel il assure le solo.

Lors de cette tournée spéciale intitulé My Whitesnake Years, qui célèbre donc l’époque emblématique où il jouait dans Whitesnake, Vandenberg reviendra sur ses années glorieuses passées au sein du “Serpent Blanc”, offrant ainsi aux fans l’occasion de revivre de forts bons moments. A noter que pour l’occasion c’est Mats Leven (Yngwie Malmsteen, Treat, Therion, Candlemass, TSO) qui assurera le chant !

BATTLE BEAST –Wings Of Light

Voilà maintenant près de 15 ans que Battle Beast s’est lancé dans sa conquête des amateurs de power metal.  Actuellement en studio pour enregistrer leur septième album, dont la sortie est prévue à la rentrée, ces finlandais s’offrent une pause live au Heavy Week-End.

Leurs six albums ont généré plus de 300 millions de streams, quatre d’entre eux se sont classés n°1 dans les charts de leur pays d’origine.  Aujourd’hui, emmené par Noora Louhimo, une chanteuse aux allures de déesse païenne, le groupe en propose un spectacle de plus en plus grandiose et s’impose comme l’un des plus sérieux espoirs de la scène internationale.

SAXON –Princess of the Night (Live at Hellfest)

Au début des 80’s SAXON émerge de la ‘New Waves Of British Heavy Metal’ en réalisant des albums désormais classés parmis les classiques du genre. Depuis 45 ans, sans jamais baisser la tête, le groupe du chanteur Biff Byford a su rester présent sur la scène internationale. En juin dernier, au Hellfest, juste après Metallica, les vétérans anglais ont tout simplement donné l’un des meilleurs concerts du festival, une prestation qui impose un immense respect. Ça sera le cas à Heavy Week End !

POWERWOLF –Dancing With The Dead

L’un de groupes incontournables de la scène heavy metal actuelle, POWERWOLF nous offrira surement un de ses shows superbement mise en scène avec des multiples vidéos 3D de loups-garous et autres chevaliers, projetées sur un décor somptueux d’où jaillit un flot incessant de flammes toutes plus hautes et brûlantes les unes les autres. Une scénographie grandiose rythmé évidement par d’irrésistibles hymnes repris en chœur par le public. Du grand spectacle à ne pas rater le 6 juin !

WINGS OF STEEL – Wings of Steel

Sorti au printemps 2023, « Gates of Twilight » de WINGS OF STEEL a réussi à capter l’intérêt de nombreux amateurs de heavy metal traditionnel.

Enregistré, réalisé et distribué de manière indépendante, ce premier album a permis au groupe d’émerger peu à peu de la scène “underground” grâce à l’enthousiasme des fans, puis à d’excellentes chroniques qui n’ont pas manqué de souligner les grandes qualités de cette formation sortie de nulle part.

L’an passé, de nombreux concerts ont confirmé que WINGS OF STEEL était aussi particulièrement redoutable sur scène. Chose que le public pourra constater lors de leur passage au Heavy Week-end !

VANDEN PLAS – When The World Is Falling Down

1998 : Vanden Plas, qui a sorti “The God Thing”, son deuxième album, quelques mois plus tôt, sillonne les routes d’Europe et de France en 1ère partie de Dream Theater pour le fameux “Touring Into Infinity”, tournée dont le point culminant sera le passage des deux groupes (avec les brésiliens d’Angra) au Printemps de Bourges au mois d’avril de la même année.

11 albums studio et quelques live plus tard, Vanden Plas est devenu l’un des leaders du “prog metal” européen, mais s’est fait rare sur les scènes de l’hexagone. Leur passage au Heavy Week-end marque donc leurs grandes retrouvailles avec Dream Theater et le public français, avec quelques bons souvenirs à la clé.

Présents à la conférence de presse Andy Kuntz (chant) et Stephan Lill (guitare) se sont déclarés trèsheureux d’être invités à Heavy Weekend. Ils sont très impressionnés par la line up en tant que musiciens mais aussi en tant que fans.

Ils nous ont parlé de leurs 30 ans d’expérience en France qui à démarre grâce à Olivier Garnier (Replica Promotion) qui a été le premier à croire en eux et les a envoyés en tournée en France avec Angra et Dream Theatre. Ils ont aussi joué des concerts acoustiques à la Fnac et à Virgin Megastore , ce qui leur permis à se faire connaitre auprès d’un public très large en France.

A Heavy Weekend, ils vont jouer 1 heure et ils sont en train de travailler sur le set list. Il faut savoir qu’un concert normal dure environs deux heures car ils sont de morceaux qui durent parfois une dizaine de minutes et pour un festival c’est un peu long même si les gens s’y attendent quand on parle de métal progressif.

A la fin de la conférence de presse les deux musiciens nous ont offert un show case acoustique, comprenant une très jolie version de Des Hauts, Des bas de Stephan Eicher chantée dans un français parfait.

EUROPE – Rock the Night

Avec Scorpions, EUROPE est sans doute le groupe de  «  hard »  à être à l’origine de l’un des plus grands hits de l’histoire du rock. Mais résumer la carrière des suédois au seul succès de  «  The Final Countdown » serait une grave erreur, tant depuis des années, albums après album, concert après concert, le quintette de Stockholm, constitué de ses 5 membres originaux, a réussi à se réinventer au point de devenir une référence de ce que l’on appelle désormais le « classic rock ».

DREAM THEATER – Night Terror

Le groupe américain DREAM THEATER a sorti le superbe album Parasomnia, le 7 février dernier et a fêté ses 40 ans de carrière avec un concert triomphale à l’Adidas Arena de Paris en novembre dernier.

Le lineup iconique de ces titans de la musique progressive, constitué de James LaBrie (chant), John Petrucci (guitare), John Myung (basse), Jordan Rudess (claviers) et Mike Portnoy (batterie), à nouveau réunis ensemble, se produira au Nancy Open Air le samedi 7 juin 2025 pour le plus grand bonheur des fans qui attendaient ces retrouvailles depuis près de 15 ans !

NOTHING MORE – IF IT DOESN’T HURT

Paru l’an passé l’album Carnal du groupe américain Nothing More – nommé à trois fois aux Grammy Awards – vient d’être réédité en digital avec 5 titres bonus. C’est dans le cadre de cette nouvelle version que le groupe du charismatique chanteur Jonny Hawkins va à nouveau écumer l’Europe et faire une halte au Heavy Week-end pour un concert qui sera la seule date du groupe dans l’Hexagone cette année.

Particulièrement intense et cérébrale, la musique de Nothing More prend une dimension encore plus poignante sur scène grâce à un frontman complètement imprégné par la profondeur des textes qu’il chante. Exécuté par de musiciens parfaitement rodés, le metal alternatif de ce groupe originaire San Antonio, Texas, prend alors des allures quasiment progressives et fascinantes. Un véritable plaisir sonore et visuel.

RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR – Neo Paris

Rise Of The Northstar transporte le public dans leur univers combinant metal, hip-hop, punk hardcore et des influences empruntées à la culture populaire japonaise.

Originaire de banlieue Parisienne, le groupe revendique ouvertement une attitude indépendante et un crossover artistique sans concessions, propageant et peaufinant sa bombe visuelle et sonore depuis plus d’une décennie.

Entre réalité urbaine et fiction Japonisante, forts de 3 Ep et 3 albums, le groupe s’est forgé avec le temps un style et une identité uniques, couplés à une solide réputation de monstre d’énergie scénique. Banger après banger, ROTN comptabilise aujourd’hui plusieurs dizaines de millions de streams sur ses réseaux, a enregistré avec Joe Duplantier de Gojira et fait jumper le monde entier dont celui du Heavy Week-end !

MASS HYSTERIA- Tenace : L’inversion des pôles

MASS HYSTERIA est un groupe qui a réussi à se réinventer. Plus fort et plus puissant qu’il ne l’a jamais été, ce gang de briscards est légitimement reconnu comme l’un des patrons de la scène métal française. Pas étonnant de les retrouver à l’affiche du Heavy Week-end.

En début d’année ils sont passés par le Zenith de Paris pour fêter le 30ans du groupe et à cette occasion les Français ont offert aux fans un show éblouissant.

Yann HEURTAUX, le guitariste du groupe nous a rassuré lors de la conférence de presse que le groupe nous prépare un show au top, similaire à celui du Zenith surtout qu’ils se produirons juste avant SLIPKNOT.

Il faut savoir que le groupe français a l’habitude d’ouvrir pour de groupes mastodontes comme fut le cas l’année dernière à Hellfest et aux Arènes de Nîmes, quand ils se sont produit juste avant Metallica.

C’est toujours un peu de pression de jouer avant de tels groupes, avoue Yann, mais en fait, avec les années, ils ont appris à la gérer. C’est toujours super intéressant pour eux de voir comment des tels groupes fonctionnent.

C’est sûr, Mass Hysteria est un groupe qui aime la scène et va tout donner à Heavy Week-End le 8 juin!

Yann a tenu à exprimer sa joie d’avoir été invité à Heavy Weekend. Ils sont super contents d’y jouer et en même temps il trouve que c’est hyper rassurant pour eux d’avoir un tel festival en France, avec une affiche si impressionnante qui laisse aussi la place aux groupes français.

SLIPKNOT – YEN

Incontestable ténor de la scène “metal” depuis le début des années 2000, grâce à un répertoire et des shows à couper le souffle, le groupe américain SLIPKNOT va clôturer le festival. Ce show qui est donc le seul cette année dans un festival français va permettre à ses légions de fans de satisfaire leur appétit de sensations toujours plus puissantes.

Three days of metal madness of all kinds that promise to be very intense and strong in emotion because this year, once again, HEAVY WEEK-END has brought together an impressive line-up: SLIPKNOT, DREAM THEATER, POWERWOLF, EUROPE, SAXON, MASS HYSTERIA, ADRIAN VANDENBERG, BATTLE BEAST, WINGS OF STEEL, VANDEN PLAS, NOTHING MORE and RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR will be part of the party and make us vibrate.

With this beautiful diversity in the different styles of “metal”, HEAVY WEEK-END reaffirms its vocation to present big names as headliners, but also to allow young bands to be discovered by a wider audience, or “old-timers” to perform again in France.

HEAVY WEEK-END – A Hybrid Festival 

HEAVY WEEK-END is a festival that has the ambition to present something new. The idea is to reinvent the festival project.

HEAVY WEEK-END offers a hybrid format with capacity for everyone in an open amphitheater with a standing pit but also 15000 seats, in total the Zenith can accommodate 25000 people per day.

Compared to the format of a standard festival that offers concerts on several stages, at HEAVY WEEK-END, there is only one stage where 12 concerts take place for 3 days, the pace is frantic but has no choice of stages! 

We have 4 -5 hours of music from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm and the artists can perform a full show of 1h30 for the headliners or 40 min to 1 hour for the other bands.

With its line-up, the festival wants to bring together a community around an event that everyone agrees on.

The festival team, 40 people, is working hard to find the right format and set up all the logistical and technical reception.

It’s clearly a desire to do something different from what can be found elsewhere in France or in Europe. It is a project that is intended to settle in Nancy and to continue.  

For the moment, the festival does not receive any local or state subsidies, which may explain why ticket prices may be more expensive than for other festivals. 

The goal is for the festival to make itself known and that in the future it can gather support. 

This year the festival offers a multitude of Passes at specific prices, including Student Passes / Young people under 30 years old, but also Friends Passes (Tickets available for groups of 3 people minimum)

THE DATES OF THE FESTIVAL

The choice of dates at the beginning of June was made for several reasons:

First to distance themselves from Hellfest (difficult for the whole team to chain two intensive weekends of festivals like last year, but also for the spectators who will participate in both festivals).

There are no other festivals in France that can conflict. 

It’s a good time for the Nancy region because people haven’t left for the summer holidays yet.

This period is also a guarantee of having available bands because they usually start the festival period at Sweden Rock (which takes place at the same time as Heavy Week End this year) and end after Hellfest.

The venue – ZENITH de NANCY

The Zenith de Nancy was chosen for several reasons.

First of all, Mathieu Drouot has a real affection for the East of France because he is originally from Strasbourg and he participated in many Hard Rock sessions at the Colmar Wine Fair (events that no longer exist today), so he knows a lot of people in the area and knows a lot of people in Nancy.

The Zénith de Nancy, which was built more than 20 years ago, is a place steeped in history where AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses have played.

There is a lot to do to bring back the good old memories to those who have experienced these concerts and also to convince the younger generations to keep this rock tradition alive. 

The main idea is to bring Rock’N’Roll back to Nancy!

Nancy is an accessible city, easy to access for bands touring Europe and easy to access also for festival goers

Infrastructure with motorways but also by train (Parisians can get there by train – 1h30 – 2h journey) Easy to access also for spectators from neighbouring countries, the festival is promoted in the Benelux and Germany Nancy is a beautiful city where life is good – last year many festival-goers took the opportunity to walk around the city during the day. The concept of the festival is also to be able to attend a weekend of concerts, but to be able to devote days to something else, such as discovering the city A festival is going with friends. 

The Zenith in Nancy offers great sound, the place has very good acoustics – (it is not located in a field where the sound is polluted by the wind) and all the technical means are put in place to have a great sound for the open-air.

Regarding accessibility for people with reduced mobility, they have a dedicated access. The PRM spaces are the best seats in the venue. The organisers are working hard to ensure that all audiences can be welcomed in good conditions.

LINE UP

The highly anticipated arrival of SLIPKNOT, DREAM THEATER and POWERWOLF will bring a lot of people. It’s the only festival in France for SLIPKNOT.

The festival is willing to give a good place to French bands: this year with MASS HYSTERIA and RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR.

After last year’s line-up with veterans SCORPIONS, DEEP PURPLE, ALICE COOPER or JUDAS PRIEST, this year the lineup is open to younger bands as WINGS OF STEEL or NOTHING MORE to show all the dynamism of the rock and metal scene.

Avenged Sevenfold and Opeth couldn’t come because of the very busy schedules.

Heavy Weekend wants to offer bands that may not be enough or are underrepresented in other festivals and so create an event where they can perform.

A look back to the 2024 Edition

The first HEAVY WEEK-END edition last year received excellent feedback and brought together 35k festivalgoers over the 3 days. 

This first edition was loss-making, but it’s a bit normal for a first edition event. The ambition was not just to make a one-shot festival but to set up an event that will last in the future.

Last year there was a shortage of toilets – very few for as many beer drinkers, but this year this problem will be solved.

News About 2026

It’s too early to know the bands for the 2026 lineup… but for sure there won’t be AC/DC or Manowar.

The 2026 dates cannot announce also because the festival have to be quite flexible depending on the band’s availability.

The festival manages with the Zenith de Nancy the reservation of several weekends and the dates will be decided according to the responses of each other. We will also have to wait for the results of this year’s edition, which will confirm whether early June is the right period!

The Dutch guitar-hero joined David Coverdale’s band in 1987 when it dominated the US charts thanks to the success of the hit “Here I Go Again”, on which he performs the iconic solo..  On this special tour entitled “My Whitesnake Years”, which celebrates the fabulous era when he played in Whitesnake, Vandenberg will look back on his glorious years spent with the “White Snake”, offering fans the opportunity to relive some great moments. Note that for the occasion it is Mats Leven (Yngwie Malmsteen, Treat, Therion, Candlemass, TSO) who will provide the vocals!!

BATTLE BEAST – Wings of Light

It’s been almost 15 years now since Battle Beast set out to conquer power metal lovers.  Currently in the studio to record their seventh album, which is scheduled for release in the fall, these Finns are taking a live break at Heavy Weekend. 

Their six albums have generated more than 300 million streams, four of them ranking No. 1 in the charts of their home country. 

Today, led by Noora Louhimo, a singer with the appearance of a pagan goddess, the group offers an increasingly grandiose show and establishes itself as one of the most serious hopes on the international scene.

SAXON – Princess of the Night (Live at Hellfest)

At the beginning of the 80’s, SAXON emerged from the ‘New Waves Of British Heavy Metal’ by producing albums that are now classified as classics of the genre.

For 45 years, without ever lowering its head, singer Biff Byford’s band has remained present on the international scene.

Last June, at Hellfest, just after Metallica, the English veterans simply gave one of the best concerts of the festival, a performance that commands immense respect. This will be the case at Heavy Weekend!

POWERWOLF –Dancing With The Dead

One of the essential bands of the current heavy metal scene, POWERWOLF will surely offer us one of its shows superbly staged with multiple 3D videos of werewolves and other knights, projected on a sumptuous setting from which an incessant flow of flames.

A grandiose scenography punctuated of course by irresistible hymns taken up in chorus by the audience. A great show not to be missed on 6^th of June!

WINGS OF STEEL – Wings of Steel

Released in the spring of 2023, WINGS OF STEEL’s “Gates of Twilight” managed to capture the interest of many fans of traditional heavy metal.  Recorded, produced and distributed independently, this first album allowed the band to emerge little by little from the “underground” scene thanks to the enthusiasm of the fans, then to excellent reviews that did not fail to highlight the great qualities of this band that came out of nowhere. 

Last year, many concerts confirmed that WINGS OF STEEL was also particularly formidable on stage. Something that the audience will for sure highly appreciate during their visit to the Heavy Weekend!

VANDEN PLAS – When The World Is Falling Down

1998: Vanden Plas, who released “The God Thing”, its second album, a few months earlier, travels the roads of Europe and France as the first part of Dream Theater for the famous “Touring Into Infinity”, a tour whose culmination will be the passage of the two bands (with the Brazilians of Angra) at the Printemps de Bourges in April of the same year.

11 studio albums and a few live shows later, Vanden Plas has become one of the leaders of European “prog metal» but has been rare on the stages of France. Their appearance at Heavy Weekend marks their great reunion with Dream Theater and the French public.

Present at the press conference, Andy Kuntz (vocals) and Stephan Lill (guitar) said they were very happy to be invited to Heavy Weekend.

They are very impressed by the line-up as musicians but also as fans. 

They told us about their 30 years of experience in France which started thanks to Olivier Garnier (Replica Promotion) who was the first to believe in them and sent them on tour in France with Angra and Dream Theatre. At that time, they also played acoustic concerts at Fnac and Virgin Megastore, which allowed them to become known to a very large audience in France. 

At Heavy Weekend, they’re going to play for 1 hour, so quite unusual for them as a normal Vanden Plas concert lasts about two hours. Their songs sometimes last about ten minutes and for a festival it’s a bit long even if people expect it when we talk about progressive metal. They promises  a good set list for HEAVY WEEKEND!

At the end of the press conference the two musicians offered us an acoustic showcase, including a very nice version of Stephan Eicher’s Des Hauts, Des Bas sung in perfect French.

EUROPE – Rock the Night

Along with Scorpions, EUROPE is undoubtedly the “hard” band to be at the origin of one of the greatest hits in the history of rock. But summing up the Swedes’ career to the sole success of “The Final Countdown” would be a serious mistake, as for years, album after album, concert after concert, the Stockholm quintet, made up of its 5 original members, has managed to reinvent itself to the point of becoming a reference of what is now called “classic rock”.

DREAM THEATER – Night Terror

The American band DREAM THEATER released the superb album Parasomnia on February 7 and celebrated its 40th anniversary with a triumphant concert at the Adidas Arena in Paris last November

The iconic lineup of these titans of progressive music, made up of James LaBrie (vocals), John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass), Jordan Rudess (keyboards) and Mike Portnoy (drums), reunited together, will perform at the Nancy Open Air on Saturday, June 7, 2025 to the delight of fans who have been waiting for this reunion for nearly 15 years!

NOTHING MORE – IF IT DOESN’T HURT

Released last year, Nothing More’s album Carnal – nominated three times for the Grammy Awards – has just been reissued digitally with 5 bonus tracks. It is as part of this new version that the band of charismatic singer Jonny Hawkins will once again scour Europe and make a stop at the Heavy Weekend for a concert that will be the band’s only date in France this year.

Particularly intense and cerebral, Nothing More’s music takes on an even more poignant dimension on stage thanks to a frontman completely impregnated by the depth of the lyrics he sings. Performed by perfectly rehearsed musicians, the alternative metal of this band from San Antonio, Texas, then takes on an almost progressive and fascinating look. A real sound and visual pleasure.

RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR – Neo Paris

Rise Of The Northstar transports the audience into their universe combining metal, hip-hop, hardcore punk and influences borrowed from Japanese popular culture. Originally from the suburbs of Paris, the band openly claims an independent attitude and an uncompromising artistic crossover, propagating and refining its visual and sound bomb for more than a decade.

Between urban reality and Japanese fiction, with 3 EPs and 3 albums, the band has forged over time a unique style and identity, coupled with a solid reputation as a monster of stage energy.

Banger after banger, ROTN now has tens of millions of streams on its networks, recorded with Joe Duplantier of Gojira and made the whole world jump including the Heavy Weekend!

MASS HYSTERIA- Tenace : L’inversion des pôles

MASS HYSTERIA is a band that has managed to reinvent itself. Stronger and more powerful than it has ever been, this gang is legitimately recognized as one of the bosses of the French metal scene.

It’s not surprising to find them on the line up of the Heavy Weekend.

At the beginning of the year, they performed to the Zenith in Paris the celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary and on this occasion, the French offered the fans a dazzling show.

Yann HEURTAUX, the band’s guitarist reassured us during the press conference that the band is preparing a great show, similar to the one at the Zenith, especially since they will perform just before the giant of SLIPKNOT. 

You should know that the French band is used to opening for giant bands as was the case last year at Hellfest and the Arènes de Nîmes, when they performed just before Metallica.

It’s always a bit of pressure to play before such bands, admits Yann, but in fact, over the years, they learn how to manage it. It’s always super interesting for them to see how behemoth groups work.

For sure, Mass Hysteria is a band that loves the stage and will give it their all on the Heavy Weekend stage on June 8^th

Yann wanted to express his joy of having been invited to Heavy Weekend. They are super happy to play there and at the same time it’s very reassuring for them to have such a festival in France, with such an impressive line-up that also create an important place for the French bands. 

SLIPKNOT – YEN

Undeniable tenor of the “metal” scene since the early 2000s, thanks to a breathtaking repertoire and shows, the American band SLIPKNOT will close the festival.

This show, which is the only one this year in a French festival, will allow its legions of fans to satisfy their appetite for ever more powerful sensations.
