QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA Celebrating 50 YEARS of “BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY”-Concert Review, Paris 06.03.2025

En 2025, on célèbre 50 ans de Bohemian Rhapsody, la chanson emblématique de QUEEN, le hit mondial paru sur le quatrième l’album du groupe légendaire, A Night At The Opera.

C’est à cette occasion que le spectacle QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA effectue une grande tournée européenne qui comprend une quinzaine des dates françaises, dont un passage à Paris, le 6 mars à la Seine Musicale.

Après la triste disparition de Freddie Mercury, un grand nombre de formations se sont exercées à faire revivre live les hits immortels du groupe britannique avec plus au moins du succès.

Mais QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA n’est pas une tribute band ordinaire car c’est le seul et unique concert validé et produit par les membres originels du QUEEN : Roger Taylor & Brian May. Ce projet il est donc né suite à leur volonté de faire résonner de nouveau leurs chansons sur scène.

Ce sont eux même qui ont organisé des auditions pour dénicher des musiciens talentueux digne de porter le message de Freddie Mercury, lui rendre hommage comme il se doit et garder en vie l’héritage légendaire de QUEEN.

QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA existe depuis plus d’une décennie maintenant et a porté la flamme devant de fans du monde entier lors des tournées triomphales à guichets fermés aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amérique du Sud ou en Europe.

C’est donc avec la certitude d’assister à un show bien rodé et porté par des musiciens triés sur le volet, qu’on s’est dirigé vers la belle salle de la Seine Musicale située à Boulogne Billancourt, au Portes de Paris. Et nous n’avons pas été déçus ! On vous raconte :

Nous arrivons tôt pour découvrir ELECTRIC PYRAMID, le groupe du talentueux Ol Beach, le musicien multi-instrumentiste qui a pratiquement grandi avec Queen, car il est le fils de leur manager JIM BEACH.

Electric Pyramid est un groupe au line-up internationale et ce soir, ils seront sept sur scène pour nous offrir un concert rock vintage très agréable qui nous transporte dans une autre époque : les 70’s.

Des riffs classique rock, des mélodies atmosphériques saisissantes agrémentes par la voix chaude légèrement rauque d’Ol soutenu merveilleusement par deux choristes.

La set list alterne des morceaux de leur premier album éponyme sorti en 2021 et des chansons du prochain album intitule LION qui sortira en le 23 mai 2025. On retient notamment les excellentes : Supersize, Devil Eyes (interprété avec le groupe réuni au milieu de la scène qui chante Freedom ! à l’unison) ou DIORAMA, le premier single extrait du nouvel album.

Le public est assez timide mais les récompensera avec des chaleureuses applaudissements. Notons que jour de la sortie de l’album, Electric Pyramid donnera un concert en tête d’affiche, au Café de la Danse à Paris. Une belle occasion de les revoir !

La salle est quasiment remplie quand, à 21h, c’est le tour de QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA de monter sur scène.

Et pour démarrer le spectacle quoi de mieux que We Will Rock You dans une version assez différente de l’original, l’occasion de faire connaissance avec les 6 musiciens qui font partie de l’aventure : Gareth Taylor (UK) – Vocal + Alirio Netto (Brazil) – Vocal + Darren Reeves (UK) – Keyboards, vocal and Musical Director vocal, + Nick Radcliffe (UK) – Guitars and vocals + François-Olivier Doyon (Canada) – Bass and Vocal + George Farrar (UK) – drums and vocal.

Tie Your Mother Down suivie d’une magnifique version de Somebody To Love, le son est excellent et les interprétations à la hauteur.

Under Pressure, Killer Queen, These Are the Days of Our Lives, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I Want It All, Don’t Stop Me Now, A Kind of Magic…les titres s’enchainnent et le public accueille avec enthousiasme chaque morceau. Applaudissements bruyants, cris et ovations et rapidement à l’invitation de chanteurs, les fans de tous les âges se mettent debout et dansent.

Beaucoup se déplaceront devant la scène en occupant le petit espace entre la scène et la première rangée (la fosse à la Scène Musicale est en configuration assise).

Les deux chanteurs principaux très élégants, vestes bien coupés ou chemises à pailletés se succèdent au chant et mènent la danse.

Si Gareth Taylor a le timbre vocal de Freddie Mercury et interprète plutôt les morceaux slow et « d’opéra » qui nécessitent une voix qui monte bien dans les aigues (remarquable sur Somebody To Love), la voix de Alirio Netto est nettement différente, plus rock et qui colle bien à des chansons plus dynamiques comme sur l’excellent I want to Break Free.

Ils interprèteront plusieurs chansons ensemble et l’alchimie est parfaite : le groovy Radio Gaga ou l’épique Bohemian Rhapsody . La voix et le clapping du public les accompagnent.

Si le spectacle est plutôt dirigé par ces deux chanteurs, les autres membres du groupe chantent aussi et feront plusieurs interventions. François-Olivier Doyon sur Under Pressure ou le batteur George Farrar sur A Kind Of Magic. Le guitariste Nick Radcliffe est très bon à la guitare et nous enchante avec les solos façon Brian May. Et il chante aussi.

Sur les trois grands écrans installés sur scène, des images de QUEEN sont projetés et avant chaque morceaux les musiciens parlerons brièvement de la chanson interprétée, car il faut savoir que les quatre membres de Queen sont tous des auteurs-compositeurs et chacun a apporté sa contribution avec des morceau magnifiques.

Ils nous rappelleront qu’ils sont là pour la célébration du 50eme anniversaire de « Bohemian Rhapsody », sans doute l’une des plus grandes chansons de tous les temps.

Le final composé de We Will Rock You (plus près de la version originale cette fois) et We Are the Champions sera épic !

Des longues ovations triomphales récompenseront ces musiciens talentueux et passionnées.

Sans être des imitateurs ou de copies costumées du groupe original, les musiciens de Queen Extravanganza font un travail fantastique pour recréer la magie de l’un des plus grands groupes de rock de tous les temps.

En 90 minutes, 20 ans de carrière sont passée en revue à travers des hits mémorables. Queen Extravanganza reprend parfaitement les chansons de Queen tout en apportant quelques touches et des arrangements originaux qu’on apprecie.

Beaucoup de charisme, d’énergie contagieuse, le public de tous les âges a été totalement conquis et impliqué. Des fans de la première heure ou des plus récents ont chanté à l’unisson et ont frappé dans les mains au rythme des titres inoubliables tout au long du concert.

On a tous vécu « A kind of Magic »! Un spectacle à la hauteur de nos attentes !

In 2025, we celebrate 50 years of Bohemian Rhapsody, the iconic QUEEN’s song, the huge hit released on the legendary band’s fourth album, A Night At The Opera.

It is on this occasion that the show QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA is currently touring European including France with about fifteen dates including a visit to Paris, on March 6 at the Seine Musicale.

As you know, after the sad death of Freddie Mercury, an big number of bands practiced reviving the British band’s immortal hits live with more or less success.

But QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA is no ordinary tribute band as it is the one and only concert validated and produced by the original members of the QUEEN: Roger Taylor & Brian May. This project was born following their desire to make their songs resonate on stage again. They are the ones who organized auditions to find talented musicians worthy of carrying Freddie Mercury’s message, paying tribute to him as it should be and keeping QUEEN’s legendary legacy alive.

QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA has been around for more than a decade now and has carried the flame in front of fans around the world on triumphant tours in the United States, Canada, Australia, South America or Europe.

It is therefore with the certainty of attending a well-rehearsed show carried by handpicked musicians, that we headed to the beautiful venue of the Seine Musicale located in Boulogne Billancourt at the gates of Paris. And we were not disappointed! Here our review!

We arrive early to discover ELECTRIC PYRAMID, the band of the talented Ol Beach, the multi-instrumentalist musician who practically grew up with Queen, because he is the son of their manager JIM BEACH.

ELECTRIC PYRAMID is a band with an international line-up and tonight, there will be seven of them on stage to offer us a great vintage rock concert that transports us to another era: the 70’s.

Classic rock riffs, striking atmospheric melodies embellished by Ol’s warm, slightly raspy voice wonderfully supported by two backup singers. The set list alternates tracks from their self-titled debut album released in 2021 and songs from the upcoming album titled LION which will be released on May 23, 2025.

We retain in particular the excellents: Supersize, Devil Eyes (performed with the band gathered in the middle of the stage singing Freedom!) or DIORAMA, the first single from the new album.

The audience is quite shy but will reward them with warm applause. Note that on the day of the new album’s release, Electric Pyramid will give a headlining concert at the Café de la Danse in Paris.

The room is almost full when, at 9 p.m., it is QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA’s turn to go on stage. And to start the show what better than We Will Rock You in a version quite different from the original. We have then the opportunity to get to know the 6 musicians who are part of the adventure

Tie Your Mother Down followed by a magnificent version of Somebody To Love, the sound is excellent and the interpretations are up to the task. Under Pressure, Killer Queen, These Are the Days of Our Lives, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I Want It All, Don’t Stop Me Now, A Kind of Magic… The tracks follow one another, and the audience enthusiastically welcomes each track.

Loud applause, screams and ovations, quickly at the invitation of singers, fans of all ages stand up and dance. Many will move in front of the stage occupying the small space between the stage and the first row (the pit at the Scène Musicale is in a seated configuration).

The two very elegant lead singers, in well-cut jackets or sequined shirts, take turns singing and leading the dance.

If Gareth Taylor has the vocal timbre of Freddie Mercury and perform rather slow and “opera” pieces that require a voice that rises well in the high notes (remarkable on Somebody To Love), Alirio Netto’s voice is clearly different, more rock and which fits well with more dynamic songs like on the excellent I want to Break Free.

They will perform several songs together and the chemistry is perfect: the groovy Radio Gaga or the epic Bohemian Rhapsody. The voice and clapping of the audience accompany them.

If the show is rather directed by these two singers, the other members of the band also sing and will make several interventions. François-Olivier Doyon on Under Pressure or drummer George Farrar on A Kind Of Magic. Guitarist Nick Radcliffe is very good on the guitar and enchants us with Brian May-style solos. And he also sings.

On the three large screens installed on stage, images of QUEEN are projected and before each song the musicians will talk briefly about the song performed, because as we know the four members of Queen are all songwriters and each one has contributed with magnificent songs.

They will remind us that they are there for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, arguably the greatest song of all time.

The finale composed of We Will Rock You (closer to the original version this time) and We Are the Champions will be epic! Long triumphant ovations will reward these talented and passionate musicians.

Without being imitators or costumed copies of the original band, the musicians of Queen Extravanganza do a fantastic job of recreating the magic of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. In 90 minutes, 20 years of career are reviewed through memorable hits.

Queen Extravanganza perfectly covers Queen’s songs while bringing some touches and original arrangements that we fully appreciate.

A lot of charisma, contagious energy, the audience of all ages was totally won over and involved. Fans of the first hour or more recent sang along and clapped their hands to the rhythm of unforgettable songs throughout the concert. We’ve all experienced “A kind of Magic”! A show that lives up to our expectations!
