QUEENSRŸCHE-MASTERFUL CONCERT at Trianon, Paris-17.02.2025 Review

Silent Lucidy, Jet City Woman, Empire…ces fabuleux morceaux iconiques signés QUEENSRŸCHE passait en boucle sur MTV et dans mon walkman début 90’s. C’est à cette époque que j’ai fait la connaissance du groupe américain.

Formé en 1982, et considéré comme l’un des pionniers du métal progressif QUEENSRŸCHE a connu une carrière remarquable avec beaucoup de tourmentes, des hauts et des bas, des changements radicaux et des ruptures, notamment avec le départ du chanteur emblématique Geoff Tate en 2012.

De la formule originale du groupe, il ne reste actuellement que le guitariste Michael Wilton et le bassiste Eddie Jackson mais rejoints par le formidable chanteur Todd La Torre, le guitariste Mike Stone, ainsi que le batteur Casey Grillo, le groupe a réussi à continuer et à garder son identité et sa réputation de groupe légendaire de l’histoire du heavy métal.

C’est dans cette formule que le groupe s’est lancé dans une grande tournée baptisé « The Origins Tour » qui célèbre les 40 ans de leurs premiers exploits : l’EP éponyme sorti en 1983 et leur premier album The Warning, sorti en 1984.

Après avoir sillonné les USA l’année dernière, le groupe mythique a donné une série des concerts en Europe en ce début 2025. A Paris, le combo nous a donné RDV, lundi 17 février 2025, dans la magnifique salle du TRIANON. Une grande occasion pour moi de les voir enfin live sur scène !

La soirée démarre avec Night Demon. Présenté comme l’un des meilleurs groupes de la nouvelle vague du heavy metal made in USA, le groupe ne manquera pas de confirmer cette réputation.

Le trio californien ouvre son show avec la chanson titre de leur dernier album Outsider, sorti en 2023qui nous plonge rapidement dans leur univers heavy metalold school influencé par la NWOBHM : Riffs métal classiques et des guitares Flying V, des rythmiques tonitruants et des voix puissantes.

Le bassiste et chanteur Jarvis Leatherby et le guitariste Armand John Anthony se déplacent énergiquement d’un côté à l’autre de la scène, jouent ensemble synchronisés, font du headbanging et brandissent les guitares en air. Energie euphorique !

On rajoute des jolies lumières, des colonnes des fumée, et même un personnage, une sorte de démon à la Eddie qui fait une apparition sur scène un calice à la main et salue le public pendant The Chalice, le groupes’est donne tous les moyens pour nous offrir un show enflammé et efficace ! Le public même qu’un peu timide, apprécie et les applaudi chaleureusement.

Le show qui déroulera un setlist représentative de la discographie du groupe avec des morceaux extraits de quatre albums différents se terminera avec l’efficace Night Demon et va obtenir des fortes ovations ! Ils ont surement gagné beaucoup de nouveaux fans ce soir !

20h45, c’est le tour de QUEENSRŸCHE de monter sur scène et de faire un démarrage fracassant avec le fameux Queen of the Reich, morceau qui a aussi donné le nom du groupe. C’est le point de départ d’un show heavy métal explosif et intemporel, un retour dans le passé qui n’a pas pris une ride.

Nightrider, Blinded et une version sublimissime du dramatique The Lady Wore Black, les autres chansons de l’EP seront interprétées en ordre avec une extraordinaire force et la même magie que sur le disque.

Pas d’échauffement pour TODD LA TORRE. Dès le début, sa voix est extraordinaire et sera irréprochable sur toute la longueur du show.

Une bannière en fond de scène qui représente la pochette de l’EP, la scénographie est simple, pas effets spéciaux, nous sommes là pour que pour s’immerger dans cette musique phénoménale.

Le son est impeccable : clair et limpide, cristallin et très bien dosé qui nous permet d’apprécier pleinement la voix de LA TORRE mais aussi chaque instrument, chaque riff de guitare déchiqueté, chaque frappe de batterie ou ligne de basse vrombissante.

Une soirée historique pour les fans heavy metal !

C’est le tour de l’album The Warning d’être interprété en ordre et le morceau titre, chef-d’œuvre du métal progressif, est simplement éblouissant. La voix rugissante de La Torre est à couper le souffle, son timbre est absolument parfait et il monte dans les aigues avec un habilité hallucinante.

Le chanteur charismatique s’avère être aussi un excellent showman. Il nous invite constamment à chanter avec lui. Il s’adressera aux fans en les remerciant pour leur soutien au fil des ans. Il demande également qui voit QUEENSRŸCHE pour la première fois ce soir et beaucoup de mains se lèvent.

Le guitariste solo d’origine Micheal Wilton envoie de riffs tranchants et forme un excellent duo avec Mike Stone qui le soutien parfaitement. Ils jouent ensemble, face à face et échangent souvent leur place sur scène. Eddie Jackson livre des lignes de basse solides et contribue au chant tout en se déplaçant constamment de l’avant à l’arrière de la scène et le batteur Casey Grillo frappe avec ferveur dans les fûts.

L’alchimie et la complicité entre les musiciens est évidente, chaque membre se nourrie de l’énergie de l’autre pour offrir un spectacle électrisant.

En Force, Deliverance, No Sanctuary, les titres s’enchaînent et les fans sont complètement éblouis et ovationnent chaque morceau avec un énorme enthousiasme.

Moments forts lors de Take Hold of the Flame, interprété avec beaucoup de passion et suscite une grande une réponse du public qui chante le refrain.

Après avoir joué les deux premières albums dans leur intégralité le quintette nous offrira un autre moment incroyable : un rappel sous forme de « Best Of » avec Walk in the Shadows , Jet City Woman, Empire, pour finir en beauté avec un sublime Eyes of a Stranger extrait d’un autre album mythique sorti en 1988 : Operation : Mindcrime.

QUEENSRŸCHE a clairement dépassé toutes nos attentes ce soir. Un show PARFAIT du bout en bout. Les musiciens ont livré une performance magistrale : puissante, précise et chargé d’émotion. Evidemment, une mention spéciale pour le fantastique TODD LA TORRE qui chante comme un Dieu !

C’était un événement intense et unique pour les fans de longue dates ou pour les nouveaux d’écouter en intégralité ces 2 albums. Pas sûr d’avoir l’occasion de réécouter certains chansons bientôt en live.

Des applaudissements immenses ont récompensé ce concert formidable ! Une soirée historique pour les fans heavy metal !

Quel bonheur de pouvoir entendre ces disques en live! Je ne peux pas vous dire comme c’était un concert QUEENSRŸCHE dans les années 80 ou 90 mais je vous confirme que ce soir, c’était tout simplement MAGISTAL!

Espérons que le groupe sera de retour bientôt avec un nouvel album et donc une nouvelle tournée !

Early 90’s Silent Lucidy, Jet City Woman, Empire… these fabulous iconic tracks signed QUEENSRŸCHE were played on repeat on MTV and in the headphones of my Walkman. It was at this time that I met the American band… Formed in 1982, and considered one of the pioneers of progressive metal, QUEENSRŸCHE has enjoyed a remarkable career with many ups and downs, radical changes and breakups, most notably with the departure of iconic singer Geoff Tate in 2012.

Of the band’s original formula, only guitarist Michael Wilton and bassist Eddie Jackson are still there but joined by the formidable singer Todd La Torre, the guitarist Mike Stone, as well as the drummer Casey Grillo, the band has managed to continue and keep its identity and reputation as a legendary band in the history of heavy metal.

With this formula, the band embarked on a major tour called “The Origins Tour” which celebrates the 40th anniversary of their first releases the self -titled EP released in 1983 and their debut album The Warning, released in 1984.

After touring the USA last year, the mythical band has given a series of concerts in Europe at the beginning of 2025. In Paris, the combo gave us RDV on Monday, February 17, 2025, in the magnificent venue: TRIANON. The huge opportunity for me to finally see them live on stage!

The evening starts with Night Demon. Presented as one of the best bands of the new wave of heavy metal made in the USA, the band will not fail to confirm this reputation.

The Californian trio opens their show with the title track of their latest album Outsider, released in 2023, which quickly immerses us in their old school heavy metal universe : classic metal riffs and Flying V guitars, thunderous rhythms and powerful voices.

The Bassist and vocalist Jarvis Leatherby and the guitarist Armand John Anthony move energetically from one side of the stage to the other, playing together in sync, headbanging and brandishing guitars in the air. Euphoric energy!

We add pretty lights, columns of smoke, and even a character, a kind of demon à la Eddie who makes an appearance on stage with a chalice in his hand and greets the audience during The Chalice, the band do their best to offer us a fiery and effective show! The audience, even though a little shy, appreciates and applauds them warmly.

The show, which will feature a setlist representative of the band’s discography with songs from four different albums, will end with the effective Night Demon and will get loud ovations! They have surely won a lot of new fans tonight!

8:45 p.m., it’s QUEENSRŸCHE‘s turn to go on stage and make a tremendous start with the famous Queen of the Reich, the song that inspired the name of the band. This is the starting point of an explosive and timeless heavy metal show, a return to the past that has not aged a bit.

Nightrider, Blinded and a sublime version of the dramatic The Lady Wore Black, the other songs of the EP will be performed in order with extraordinary power and the same magic as on the record.

No warm-up for TODD LA TORRE. From the beginning, his voice is extraordinary and will be irreproachable throughout the whole show.

A banner at the back of the stage that represents the cover of the EP, the scenography is simple, no special effects, we are here to immerse ourselves in this phenomenal music.

The sound is impeccable: clear and crystal clear and very well dosed that allows us to fully appreciate LA TORRE’s voice but also every instrument, every shredded guitar riff, every drum strike or roaring bass line.

An historical evening for heavy metal fans!

It’s the turn of the album The Warning to be performed in order and the title track, a masterpiece of progressive metal, is simply dazzling. La Torre’s roaring voice is breathtaking, his timbre is absolutely perfect, and he rises to the high notes with an incredible skill.

The charismatic singer also turns out to be an excellent showman. He constantly invites us to sing with him. He will address the fans several time by thanking them for their support over the years. He also asks who is seeing QUEENSRŸCHE for the first time tonight and many hands go up.

The original lead guitarist Micheal Wilton sends sharp riffs and forms an excellent duo with Mike Stone who supports him perfectly. They play together, face to face and often swap places on stage. Eddie Jackson delivers solid bass lines and contributes vocals while constantly moving from the front to the back of the stage and drummer Casey Grillo hits fervently into the drums.

The chemistry and complicity between the musicians are obvious, each member feeds on the energy of the other to offer an electrifying show. En Force, Deliverance, No Sanctuary, the tracks follow one another, and the fans are completely amazed and give each track a standing ovation with enormous enthusiasm.

A special moment with Take Hold of the Flame, performed with a lot of passion and eliciting a great response from the audience who sing the chorus.

After playing the first two albums in their entirety, the quintet will offer us another incredible moment: an encore in the form of “Best Of” with Walk in the Shadows, Jet City Woman, Empire, to end in style a sublime Eyes of a Stranger from another mythical album released in 1988: Operation: Mindcrime.

QUEENSRŸCHE clearly exceeded all our expectations tonight. A PERFECT show from start to finish. The musicians delivered a masterful performance: powerful, precise and emotionally charged. Obviously, a special mention for the fantastic TODD LA TORRE who sings like a GOD!

It was an intense and unique event for both long-time fans and for the new ones that allowed them to relive all these great albums. Not sure we’ll have the opportunity to listen to them live again soon.

Immense applause rewarded this wonderful concert! An historical evening for heavy metal fans!

What a joy to be able to hear these records live! I can’t tell you how was a QUEENSRŸCHE concert in the 80s or 90s but I guarantee you that tonight, it was simply MASTERFUL!

Let’s hope that the band will be back soon with a new album and therefore a new tour!
