Papa Roach est actuellement en tournée pour célébrer les 25 ans de leur gigantesque album, INFEST, le deuxième et le plus emblématique album studio du groupe californien.  

INFEST a connu en grand succès (4 fois disque de platine en USA) et a représenté une étape importante dans l’ascension mondiale du quatuor. Il est aussi connu comme le grand favori des fans avec des hymnes incontournables comme Last Resort qui reste la chanson la plus streamée du groupe de tous les temps (sur Spotify 1,3 milliards à l’heure actuelle !!!).

La tournée intitulé Rise Of The Roach, passait donc par Paris, ce mercredi 5 février et le Zenith affichait complet. En sachant que leur dernier concert en France datait de 2023 à HELLFEST, les fans étaient très impatients de le revoir.

A 19h50 quand Wage War entre en scène,la fosse est quasiment pleine et aussi une grande partie de gradins. Le groupe américain originaire de Floride chargé d’ouvrir les hostilités est venu présenter de son cinquième album studio, STIGMA sorti le 21 juin 20204 via Fearless Records.

Du metalcore moderne et mélodique de très bonne qualité, mis en valeur par le chant saturé féroce de Briton Bond en tandem avec Cody Quistad, chargé du chant clair et de la guitare rythmique.

Les riffs sont lourds et bruts, la rythmique est percutante, le public est engagé rapidement et des circles pits et de pogos se déclenchent dans la fosse. Après 2 morceaux, quelques minutes d’interruption seront nécessaires pour réparer la batterie mais cela ne va pas nuire à l’énergie développé sur scène et dans le public. Des morceaux extraits du dernier opus : NAIL5, BLUR ou MAGNETIC sont accueillis avec grand enthousiasme. Un set de 40 minutes très convainquant qui remplit bien sa mission : chauffer à fond le public.

Un rideau blanc arborant le cafard qui apparait sur la pochette d’INFEST est installé, le temps de préparer la scène pour les stars de la soirée. Le Zenith est maintenant plein !

A 21h, les lumières s’éteignent et les portables s’allument prêts à filmer. Intro au clavier du nouveau single Even If It Kills Me retentietles musiciens font leur apparition derrière le rideau façon ombres chinoises.

Le refrain explose alors que le rideau tombe et Jacobbi Shaddix (chant), Jerry Horton (guitare), Tobin Esperance (basse), Tony Palermo (batterie) et le musicien de tournée Anthony Esperance (claviers) surgissent devant le public qui éclate en ovations !

La scène est inondée de lumière ! Cinq écrans – un grand au milieu flanqué de deux plus petits de chaque côté diffusent des visuels colorés et des images du concert. Des colonnes de feu et des canons fumigènes explosent dans les airs et de rangées de spots des lumières hallucinantes bougent en parfaite synchronisation avec la musique. Le son est phénoménal.

Si le démarrage est donc assuré avec un nouveau morceau, le groupe enchaine toute de suite avec deux extrais d’ INFEST : Blood Brothers et Dead Cell, deux incontournables du groupe aux riffs dévastateurs qui feront bondir la salle et mettre en  place un énorme mosh pit.

Jacoby Shaddix, très dynamique, saute et bouge sans arrêt sur la scène devant une foule en délire. Comme toujours en véritable frontman charismatique, il construit une forte communication avec ses fans et ce soir, il ne déroge pas de la règle. Son énergie est contagieuse. Un échange permanent est engagé entre la scène et le public.

“Can you feel this shit mother fukers !!!” Il s’adresse au public après chaque morceau, il fait de grands gestes de remerciement et encouragement, et il va rapidement descendre à la barrière pour être encore plus près et créer une communion avec les fans.

Il commandera la scène et le public tout au long du set : qu’il demande de sauter, de créer de circle pit ou de se lever dans les gradins, tout le monde est heureux de suivre ses ordres. L’atmosphère est électrisante et le groupe se nourrit de cette énergie extraordinaire de la foule et vice versa.

… To Be Loved, Kill The Noise et Getting Away With Murder le show continue à monter en puissance. Chaque morceau déclenche une explosion de joie et provoque des pogos endiablés et des vagues de crowd surf.

California Love, la reprise de 2Pac sonne comme une déclaration d’amour pour leur chère Californie (le groupe est originaire de Vacaville en Californie) …et sert aussi pour faire les présentations.

Si Shaddix est le centre de l’attention, le guitariste, Jerry Horton, et le bassiste, Tobin Esperance, sont très énergiques s’impliquent à 100% ! Ils bougent sans arrêt et se lancent dans des headbaging de folie.

Papa Roach nous a embarqué dans un tourbillon spectaculaire de morceaux imbattables.

Il y aura plusieurs moments émouvants pendant la soirée dont l’hommage à Chester Bennington avec un extrait de « In the End » inséré à la fin de leur morceau Forever.

Avant d’interpréter Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark), le frontman apparait à l’écran pour un discours sur la sensibilisation à la santé mentale, s’engageant à faire un don au nom de la ville si les spectateurs allumaient la lampe de leurs téléphones pour éclairer cette chanson.

La chanson sera ensuite interprète avec les 5 musiciens devant la scène et toute la salle allumera les torches de portables. Ce grand moment d’émotion est continué avec un hommage au William Howard Roach, surnommé Papa Roach, le grand-père de Jacoby Shaddix avec la chanson Roses On My Grave.

No Apologies, tiré du dernier album du groupe, Ego Trip, sera suivi d’un excellent drum solo de Tony Palermo sous les fortes ovations de public debout !

Le mélange de rock, métal, punk et hip-hop continue dans une scénographie époustouflante.

Scars, Help, Born For Greatness clôturent magistralement le set principal dans un ambiance explosive.

Les musiciens ne se font pas trop attendre et le rappel sera ultra efficace d’abord avec une tirade exceptionnelle d’Infest :  Between Angels and Insects, la chanson titre et Broken Home qui se termine avec un petit clin d’œil à Eminem et son Loose Yourself.

Notons que Shaddix prendra un nouveau bain de foule, il va même monter dans les gradins et les traverser de droite à gauche en prenant le temps de faire un selfie avec une heureuse fan.

Des images de leur jeunesse défilent sur les écrans : des concerts, des clips des images de backstage ou des interviews…un émouvant retour en arrière.

Blind de Korn, My Own Summer (Shove It) de Deftones, Break Stuff de Limp Bizkit et Chop Suey de System Of A Down, sont réuni dans un medley qui ne fait qu’introduire le morceau que tout le monde attendait avec impatience Last Resort.

Et enfin, quand le premier couplet de Last Resort résonne: Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort, Suffocation, no breathing, Don’t give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding, This is my last resort…C’est l’hysterie générale !

Le groupe quittera la scène sous des applaudissement et des cris assourdissants ! Les fans sont fatigués et ravis ! Ce soir, pendant 1h45, Papa Roach nous a embarqué dans un tourbillon spectaculaire de morceaux imbattables. Un live plein d’adrénaline où Infest a évidemment occupé la place d’honneur avec pas moins de 6 morceaux mais d’autres chansons emblématiques du groupe californien ont fait le bonheur des fans.

Energie débordante, intensité émotionnelle, attitude positive, PAPA ROACH a tout donné avec beaucoup de générosité ! Une impressionnante libération d’énergie et d’émotion !  

Un quart de siècle après INFEST, Papa Roach délivre des concerts phénoménaux, continue de grandir et garde cette relation sincère et privilégiée avec un public fidèle. BRAVO !

Papa Roach is currently on tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their gigantic album, INFEST, the second and most emblematic studio album of the Californian band.  

INFEST was a great success (4 times Platinum in the USA) and represented an important step in the global rise of the quartet. It is also known as a fan favorite with unmissable anthems such as Last Resort, which remains the band’s most streamed song of all time (on Spotify, 1.3 billion now !!). 

The tour entitled Rise Of The Roach, was in Paris on Wednesday, February 5 and the Zenith venue was sold out. Knowing that their last concert in France was in 2023 at HELLFEST, fans were very eager to see them again.

At 7:50 p.m. when Wage War get on stage, the pit is almost full and a large part of the seatings. The American band from Florida in charge of opening the hostilities came to present their fifth studio album, STIGMA released on June 21, 20204 via Fearless Records.

Modern and melodic metalcore of very good quality, highlighted by Briton Bond’s ferocious growl vocals in tandem with Cody Quistad, in charge of clean vocals and rhythm guitar.

The riffs are heavy and raw, the rhythmic is percussive, the audience is engaged quickly and circle pits and pogos are triggered in the pit.

After 2 songs, a few minutes of interruption will be necessary to repair the drums but this will not harm the energy developed on stage and in the audience. Tracks from the latest opus: NAIL5, BLUR or MAGNETIC are welcomed with great enthusiasm. A very convincing 40-minute set that fulfils its mission well: to heat up the audience before the headliners!

A white curtain with the cockroach that appears on the cover of INFEST is installed, the time to prepare the stage for the stars of the evening. The Zenith is now full!

At 9 p.m., the lights go out and the cell phones turn on, ready to film. Intro to the keyboard of the new single Even If It Kills Me resounds and the musicians appear behind the curtain like Chinese shadows. The chorus explodes as the curtain falls and Jacobbi Shaddix (vocals), Jerry Horton (guitar), Tobin Esperance (bass), Tony Palermo (drums) and touring musician Anthony Esperance (keyboards) appear in front of the audience who burst into ovations!

The stage is flooded with light! Five screens – a large one in the middle flanked by two smaller ones on each side broadcast colourful visuals and images of the concert. Columns of fire and smoke cannons explode in the air and rows of spotlights, hallucinating lights move in perfect synchronization with the music. The sound is phenomenal.

If the start is assured with a new song, the band immediately follows up with two songs from INFEST: Blood Brothers and Dead Cell, two essentials of the band with devastating riffs that will make the room jump and set up a huge mosh pit.

Jacoby Shaddix, very dynamic, walks and jump on the stage in front of a delirious crowd. As always as a true charismatic frontman, he builds a strong communication with his fans and tonight, there is no exception to the rule. His energy is contagious. A permanent exchange is engaged between the stage and the audience.

 “Can you feel this shit mother fukers !!” He addresses the audience after each song, he makes big gestures of thanks and encouragement, and he will quickly go down to the barrier to be even closer and create a communion with the fans.

Papa Roach took us on a spectacular whirlwind of unbeatable tracks.

He will command the stage and the audience throughout the set: whether he asks to jump, create a circle pit or stand up,everyone is happy to follow his orders. The atmosphere is electrifying, and the band feeds off the extraordinary energy of the crowd and vice versa.

 … To Be Loved, Kill The Noise and Getting Away With Murder the show continues to grow in strength. Each track triggers an explosion of joy and provokes frenzied pogos and crowd surf waves. 

California Love, the cover of 2Pac sounds like a declaration of love for their dear California (the band is from Vacaville, California) … and is also used to make presentations.

If Shaddix is the centre of attention, the guitarist, Jerry Horton, and the bassist, Tobin Esperance, are very energetic and 100% involved! They move non-stop and engage in crazy headbaging.

There will be several emotional moments during the evening including the tribute to Chester Bennington with an excerpt from “In the End” inserted at the end of their track Forever. 

Before performing Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark), the frontman appeared on screen for a speech on mental health awareness, pledging to donate on behalf of the city if viewers would turn on their phone lights to light up the song.

The song will then be performed with the 5 musicians in front of the stage and the whole room will light the torches of mobile phones. This great moment of emotion is continued with a tribute to William Howard Roach, nicknamed Papa Roach, Jacoby Shaddix’s grandfather with the song Roses On My Grave.

No Apologies, taken from the band’s latest album, Ego Trip, will be followed by an excellent solo drum by Tony Palermo under the loud ovations of the standing audience! 

The mix of rock, metal, punk and hip-hop continues in a breathtaking scenography. Scars, Help, Born For Greatness masterfully close the main set in an explosive atmosphere. 

The musicians are not too long in coming and the encore will be ultra effective first with an exceptional tirade from INFEST: Between Angels and Insects, the title track and Broken Home which ends with a little nod to Eminem and his Loose Yourself.

Note that Shaddix will take another crowd bath, he will even climb in the stands and cross them from right to left while taking the time to take a selfie with a happy fan.

Korn’s Blind, Deftones’ My Own Summer (Shove It), Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff and System Of A Down’s Chop Suey, are brought together in a medley that only introduces the track that everyone has been looking forward to Last Resort.

And finally, when the first verse of Last Resort resonates: Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort, Suffocation, no breathing, Don’t give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding, This is my last resort… It’s general hysteria!

The band will leave the stage to applause and deafening screams! The fans are tired and delighted! 

Tonight, for 1h45, Papa Roach took us on a spectacular whirlwind of unbeatable tracks. A live full of adrenaline where Infest obviously occupied the place of honor with no less than 6 tracks but other emblematic songs of the Californian band made the fans happy.

Overflowing energy, emotional intensity, positive attitude, PAPA ROACH gave everything they have with great generosity! An impressive release of energy and emotion!  

A quarter of a century after INFEST, Papa Roach delivers phenomenal concerts, continues to grow and keeps this sincere and privileged relationship with a loyal audience. BRAVO!
