LARKIN POE – If God Is A Woman

LARKIN POE revient avec un nouvel album, Bloom, le 24 janvier 2025 sur Tricki-Woo Records / Wagram Music.

Bloom succède au magnifique Blood Harmony sorti en 2022, album qui a été récompensé d’un Grammy Award dans la catégorie “Best Contemporary Blues Album” et qui a permis également aux sœurs Lovell de confirmer leur succès croissant en France.

On se souvient de leur superbe performance l’Olympia en Octobre 2023 ou de leur mémorable performance dans l’émission Taratata sans oublier leur reprise de Wish You Were Here en duo avec Waxx dans Foudre sur RTL 2.

Produit et largement co-écrit par Megan, Rebecca et Tyler Bryant, ce nouvel album marque une évolution significative, il s’en dégage même une synergie qui va bien au-delà d’une simple symbiose musicale. 

« Bloom parle de se trouver soi-même au milieu de ce vacarme mondial », confie Rebecca, « d’embrasser sans réserve les défauts et le caractère qui font de nous des êtres réels ».

NO MONEY KIDS – Get Free

Le duo français formé par Félix Matschulat (Guitare-chant) et JM Paletan (Basse-drums-électronique) sort un nouvel album, Fireworks,  le 31 janvier 2025 !

Un nouvel opus enregistré en partie à New York, où le duo incontournable explore un territoire musical résolument plus rock et garage que jamais. Cet album, conçu pour la scène, célèbre la liberté et le lâcher-prise dans toute sa splendeur chaotique, rompant avec une époque où la musique live a été contrainte de se taire.

L’excellent Get Free est une véritable ode à la liberté, nous plongeant dans une atmosphère festive  et  explosive, où chaque accord résonne comme un verrou  qui  saute, une  barrière  qui  tombe, un lien  qui  se  détache  et  un horizon qui s’ouvre.

Le groupe sera en concert le 13 MARS 2025 à la MAROQUINERIE, Paris.

HANGMAN’S CHAIR – Kowloon Nights

Les pionniers français du doom metal HANGMAN’S CHAIR sortiront leur 7eme album Saddiction le 14 février 2025 sur Nuclear Blast. Ce disque dont le titre est la contraction de deux mots : “sadness” et “addiction” (quelque chose que l’on peut traduire comme une addiction à la tristesse) n’est en fait que le deuxième volet de la trilogie entamée en 2022 avec “A Loner”.

Sorte de suite logique, on y retrouve cette atmosphère froide, sur laquelle les réverbères et autres chorus planent massivement. Le son grave et heavy sur lequel le quatuor a bâti sa réputation est une fois de plus parfaitement mis en valeur par l’ingénieur Francis Caste. Alors que Valnoir de Metastazis a réalisé l’artwork reprenant ce qui fait l’identité de Hangman’s Chair dans sa forme la plus pure : le béton, les pavés, la morosité et la solitude ultra moderne de leur banlieue.

En attendant découvrez le puisant ‘Kowloon Nights‘, morceau influencé par la vague shoegaze, avec un riff de guitare hypnotique , une référence directe à cette ville chinoise détruite dans les années 90. La remarquable vidéo qui accompagne la chanson a été conçu en 3D par l’artiste Dehn Sora.

QUEENSRYCHE – Warning

Après avoir parcouru, avec succès, les Etats-Unis au printemps dernier, c’est maintenant en Europe que QUEENSRŸCHE lance “The Origins Tour”, une tournée durant laquelle le groupe de Seattle interprète l’intégralité de son fameux EP auto-produit de 1982 et de “The Warning”, son légendaire premier album sorti en 1984 (produit par James Guthrie, connu pour son travail avec Pink Floyd)

Deux disques clés qui ont posé les bases de ce que l’on appelle aujourd’hui le “prog metal” et ont ainsi ouvert la voie à des groupes tels que Dream Theater, Fates Warning ou Crimson Glory.

Le 17 février 2025, au Trianon, QUEENSRŸCHE offrira donc à ses fans, mais aussi à ceux qui n’ont pas eu la chance de vivre cette grande époque (comme moi !), l’occasion unique de réentendre sur scène des chansons telles que “Queen Of The Reich”, “The Lady Wore Black”, “En Force”, “NM 156”, “Take Hold Of The Flame”, “Before The Storm”, “Roads To Madness” et même le très rare “Prophecy”. Ne la ratez pas !

QUEENSRŸCHE est composé actuellement par Todd La Torre (Chant) le bassiste Michael Wilton, des guitaristes Eddie Jackson et Mike Stone, ainsi que du batteur Casey Grillo, une solide formation qui s’efforce de préserver l’essence et l’héritage de ce groupe phare de l’histoire heavy metal.

A noter que la 1ère partie sera assurée par Night Demon, trio considéré comme l’un des fers de lance de la nouvelle vague du heavy metal US, qui pourra enfin se produire à Paris sur une “vraie scène”, après avoir écumé les clubs undergrounds de l’hexagone.

PAPA ROACH & Carrie Underwood – Leave A Light On

L’histoire du single Leave A Light On a commencé l’an passé lors des concerts de Papa Roach aux Etats-Unis et depuis il ne cesse de séduire un public de plus en plus large !

Chaque soir, au moment d’interpréter Leave A Light On, le chanteur Jacoby Shaddix s’engageait à faire un don au nom de la ville où le groupe se produisait, si les spectateurs allumaient la lampe de leurs téléphones pour éclairer cette chanson au message fort et profond :  la prévention du suicide, ainsi la sensibilisation à la santé mentale.

Le clip aux 16 millions de vues reflète ce qui se passait alors sur scène et dans le public.

Après être passé par 30 villes, Papa Roach a finalement fait un don de 155 000 dollars en faveur de l’American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Mais l’histoire ne s’est pas limitée à cette série de concerts, puisque le groupe s’est engagé à verser à l’AFSP une redevance perpétuelle liée à l’utilisation de la chanson sous toutes ses formes (streams, passages radio, performances live). “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” s’est alors nichée naturellement dans le cœur des fans de rock, avant de s’envoler sur les ondes des radio US.

Il y a quelques mois, cette prise de conscience collective pour cette cause a amené Papa Roach à enregistrer cette autre version, en duo avec la musicienne/actrice Carrie Underwood, qui est en train d’emmener “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” vers d’autres sommets, au-delà des frontières de l’Amérique du Nord.

A ce jour “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” a permis de reverser plus de 250 000 dollars à l’AFSP.

Papa Roach sera en concert en France, à Paris, au Zénith le 5 février 2025 dans le cadre de The Rise Of The Roach Tour. A cette occasion, le groupe fêtera les 25 ans de son album Infest.

DAVID BOWIE – Starman (Top of the Pops – 6 juillet 1972)

En janvier on rend toujours hommage à David Bowie. Aujourd’hui c’est avec la mythique performance de Starman à l’émission Top of the Pops ( 6 juillet 1972)

Cette performance a changé le cours de la musique pour toujours.  Enregistrée la veille au BBC Television Centre à White City, la performance est sans aucun doute l’une des pièces les plus essentielles de la télévision musicale jamais diffusée. Elle a influencé des générations de musiciens, d’artistes et d’écrivains qui l’ont vu à l’époque et d’innombrables autres qui l’ont vu depuis au fil des décennies des copies VHS pirates aux clips YouTube. 

La performance a propulsé Bowie vers la célébrité. Le jeudi 6 juillet 1972 est considéré comme « le jour qui a inventé les années 80 », car de nombreux musiciens qui sont devenus des noms familiers ont vu la performance et cela a changé leur vie.

Parmi les spectateurs de ce soir-là, il y avait Bono de U2, Robert Smith de The Cure, Boy George, Adam Ant, Mick Jones des Clash, Gary Kemp du Spandau Ballet, Morrissey et Johnny Marr des Smiths, Siouxsie Sioux, Toyah Willcox, John Taylor et Nick Rhodes de Duran Duran, Dave Gahan de Depeche Mode et bien d’autres.

TREMONTI – The End Will Show Us How

The End Will Show Us How est le titre du nouvel album solo de Mark Tremonti, le 6ème album studio de sa carrière solo, produit par Michael “Elvis” Baskette, disponible depuis le 10 Janvier 2025.

Chanteur pour l’occasion, Mark Tremonti est soutenu dans son entreprise par Eric Friedman (guitares), Tanner Keegan (basse) et Ryan Bennett (batterie).

Des riffs lourds et puissants, des solos bien dosés, de mélodies captivantes, des rythmiques entraînantes et groovy, les 12 nouvelles compositions très variées poursuivent l’évolution musicale de ce talentueux musicien, fort d’une discographie qui s’étend sur 18 albums enregistrés avec Creed, Alter Bridge ou en solo.

Une très belle découverte de mon côté car je n’avais pas eu l’occasion d’écouter son travail solo avant. Il sera en concert à Paris à l’Alhambra le 16 février 2025.

DE WOLFF – Let’s Stay Together 

L’infatigable trio hollandais De Wolff nous plonge de nouveau dans l’ambiance rock soul psychédélique des années 70 avec un dixième album sorti en décembre dernier. 

Enregistré dans les légendaires FAME et Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, ce nouvel opus a même été nommé d’après ce dernier célèbre studio situés en Alabama, USA où des nombreux artistes y ont enregistré certaines des plus grandes chansons de tous les temps.

FAME Studios a vu la naissance d’Aretha Franklin en tant que reine de la soul lorsqu’elle s’est assise au piano et a écrit : « I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)”. et au  Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, y ont enregistré Cher, les Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, et même les Black Keys lorsqu’ils ont enregistré leur album « Brothers », lauréat d’un Grammy en 2010.  

Les frangins van de Poel, Pablo (chant/guitare) et Luka (batterie)et Robin Piso (orgue Hammond) ont donc passé des moments privilégiés et inoubliables dans ces endroits mythiques et y ont enregistré 13 morceaux très variés et inspirées, un délicieux concentré de rock classique, funk énergique mixé à la soul et aux notes de blues d’une grande élégance.

« On peut vraiment sentir une sorte de magie rock ‘n roll dans l’air là-bas », dit Pablo. « Dès que nous avons joué nos premières notes là-bas, j’ai eu la chair de poule : voilà ce son que j’ai entendu sur tous ces albums classiques ! C’était certainement l’une des meilleures expériences d’enregistrement que nous n’ayons jamais eues. Même le piano à queue utilisé par Leon Russell était toujours là, tout comme le piano électrique Wurlitzer qui a été utilisé sur « I Never Loved A Man » d’Aretha Franklin !

Ecoutez la ballade magique « Let’s Stay Together », l’une des chansons les plus personnelles que Pablo ait jamais écrites.

Il faut savoir qu’avec Muscle Shoals, DeWolff a sorti cinq albums en quatre ans – Live & Outta Sight III (2023), Love Death & In Between (2023), Live at the Royal Theatre Carré, Amsterdam (2021) et Wolffpack (2021), qui a atteint le #2 des charts néerlandais ne manquant que Foo Fighters pour la place #1.

SKUNK ANANSIE – AN ARTIST IS AN ARTIST

Les icônes du rock britannique Skunk Anansie sortent leur tout nouveau single « An Artist Is An Artist ».

Premier titre depuis près de trois ans, le groupe propose un morceau provocateur et palpitant, d’une brillance très new-wave.

The Sky, The Earth & All Between, le nouvel album studio d’Architects sera disponible le 28 février 2025 sur Epitaph.

Découvre un nouvel extrait intitulé “Blackhole”.Cette véritable tempête sonore est illustrée par un clip vidéo époustouflant qui rend cette chanson aussi saisissante visuellement qu’elle est explosive sur le plan sonore.

LARKIN POE – If God Is A Woman

LARKIN POE returns with a new album, Bloom, on January 24, 2025 on Tricki-Woo Records / Wagram Music.  Bloom follows the magnificent Blood Harmony released in 2022, an album that received a Grammy Award in the category “Best Contemporary Blues Album” and which also allowed the Lovell sisters to confirm their growing success in France.

We remember their superb concert at the Olympia in October 2023 or their memorable performance in the show Taratata, not to mention their cover of Wish You Were Here in duet with Waxx in Foudre on RTL 2. HANGMAN’S CHAIR – Kowloon Nights

French doom metal pioneers HANGMAN’S CHAIR will release their 7th album Saddiction on February 14, 2025 on Nuclear Blast. This record, whose title is the contraction of two words: “sadness” and “addiction” (something that can be translated as an addiction to sadness) is in fact only the second part of the trilogy started in 2022 with “A Loner”. 

A sort of logical consequence, we find this cold atmosphere, on which street lamps and other choruses hover massively. The low and heavy sound on which the quartet has built its reputation is once again perfectly highlighted by engineer Francis Caste. While Valnoir de Metastazis created the artwork taking up what makes the identity of Hangman’s Chair in its purest form: concrete, cobblestones, the gloom and the ultra-modern solitude of their suburbs.

In the meantime, discover the powerful ‘Kowloon Nights’, a track influenced by the shoegaze wave, with a disconcerting guitar riff, a direct reference to this Chinese city destroyed in the 90s. The remarkable video that accompanies the song was designed in 3D by artist Dehn Sora

QUEENSRYCHE – Warning

After successfully touring the United States last spring, it is now in Europe that QUEENSRŸCHE launches “The Origins Tour”, a tour during which the Seattle band performs the entirety of its famous self-produced EP from 1982 and “The Warning”, its legendary first album released in 1984 (produced by James Guthrie, known for his work with Pink Floyd)

Two key records that laid the foundations of what is now called “prog” metal” and paved the way for bands such as Dream Theater, Fates Warning or Crimson Glory.

On February 17, 2025, at the Trianon, QUEENSRŸCHE will offer its fans, but also those who did not have the chance to live through this great era (like me!), the unique opportunity to hear on stage songs such as “Queen Of The Reich”, “The Lady Wore Black”, “En Force”, “NM 156”, “Take Hold Of The Flame”,  “Before The Storm”, “Roads To Madness” and even the very rare “Prophecy”. PAPA ROACH & Carrie Underwood – Leave A Light On

The story of the single Leave A Light On began last year during Papa Roach’s concerts in the United States and since then it has continued to seduce an increasingly large audience! Every night, when performing Leave A Light On, singer Jacoby Shaddix pledged to make a donation on behalf of the city where the band was performing, if the audience would turn on their phone lights to light this song with a strong and profound message: suicide prevention, as well as mental health awareness.

The video with 16 million views reflects what was happening on stage and in the audience at the time. After visiting 30 cities, Papa Roach finally donated $155,000 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

But the story was not limited to this series of concerts, since the band committed to paying the AFSP a perpetual royalty related to the use of the song in all its forms (streams, radio plays, live performances). “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” then nestled naturally in the hearts of rock fans, before flying off the airwaves of US radio.

A few months ago, this collective awareness for this cause led Papa Roach to record this other version, in duet with musician/actress Carrie Underwood, which is taking “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” to other heights, beyond the borders of North America. Till now the song has raised more than $250,000 for the AFSP. Listen to this wonderful song.

Papa Roach will be in concert in France, in Paris, at the Zenith on February 5, 2025 as part of “The Rise Of The Roach Tour”. On this occasion, the band will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its album Infest.

DAVID BOWIE – Starman (Top of the Pops – 6 juillet 1972)

In January, we always pay tribute to David Bowie. Today it’s with the mythical performance of Starman on the show Top of the Pops (July 6, 1972). THE performance that changed the course of music forever.

Recorded a day earlier at the BBC Television Centre in White City, the performance is undoubtedly one of the most essential pieces of music television ever broadcast. It has influenced generations of musicians, artists and writers who saw it at the time and countless others who have since seen it over the decades, from bootleg VHS copies to YouTube clips.

The performance launched Bowie to stardom. Thursday 6th July, 1972, is said to be ‘the day that invented the 80’s’ as so many musicians who went on to be household names saw the performance and it changed their lives. TREMONTI – The End Will Show Us How

The End Will Show Us How is the title of Mark Tremonti’s new solo album, the 6th studio album of his solo career, produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette, available since January 10, 2025.

Singer for the occasion, Mark Tremonti is supported in his endeavor by Eric Friedman (guitars), Tanner Keegan (bass) and Ryan Bennett (drums). 

Heavy and powerful riffs, well-balanced solos, captivating melodies, catchy and groovy rhythms, the 12 new and very varied compositions continue the musical evolution of this talented musician, with a discography that extends over 18 albums recorded with Creed, Alter Bridge or solo.

A very nice discovery on my side because I hadn’t had the opportunity to listen to his solo work before. He will be in concert in Paris at the Alhambra on February 16, 2025.

DE WOLFF – Let’s Stay Together 

The tireless Dutch trio DeWolff plunges us back into the psychedelic rock soul atmosphere of the 70s with a tenth album released last December.  

Recorded at the legendary FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, this new album has even been named after the latter famous studio located in Alabama, USA where many artists have recorded some of the greatest songs of all time. 

FAME Studios saw the birth of Aretha Franklin as the queen of soul when she sat down at the piano and wrote, “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You).” and at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, recorded Cher, the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, and even the Black Keys when they recorded their 2010 Grammy-winning album “Brothers.”

The van de Poel brothers, Pablo (vocals/guitar) and Luka (drums) and Robin Piso (Hammond organ) spent privileged and unforgettable moments in these mythical places and recorded 13 very varied and inspired tracks, a delicious concentrate of classic rock, energetic funk mixed with soul and blues notes of great elegance.

“You can really feel some kind of rock ‘n roll magic in the air there,” Pablo adds. “Right when we played our first notes there, I got goosebumps: here was that sound I’ve been hearing on all those classic albums! This definitely was one of the best recording experiences we’ve ever had. Even the grand piano Leon Russell used was still there, just like the electric Wurlitzer piano that was used on “I Never Loved A Man” by Aretha Franklin!”

With Muscle Shoals, they will have released five albums in four years – Live & Outta Sight III (2023), Love Death & In Between (2023), Live at the Royal Theatre Carré, Amsterdam (2021) and Wolffpack (2021), which reached #2 in the Dutch charts only missing out to Foo Fighters for the #1 spot.  Before that came Tascam Tapes (2020), Live & Outta Sight II (2019), Thrust (2018), Roux-Ga-Roux (2016), Live & Outta Sight (2015), Grand Southern Electric (2014), DeWolff IV (2012), Orchards/Lupine (2011), Strange Fruits and Undiscovered Plants (2009) and DeWolff (2008).

Not to mention the thousands of concerts they have played in the last 17 years… Impressive, isn’t it?

SKUNK ANANSIE – AN ARTIST IS AN ARTIST

British rock icons Skunk Anansie are releasing their brand-new single An Artist Is An Artist.

First track in almost three years, the band offers a provocative and thrilling track, with a very new-wave brilliance. Touching on everything from ageism to our current need for approval in the digital age, “An Artist Is An Artist” seems to somehow remind us of the band’s vitriolic debut single, “Little Baby Swastikkka”, It also reaffirms the fact that Skunk Anansie is part of the proud British agit-pop lineage that dates back to the Slits, while also evoking the world of Ian Dury.

The Sky, The Earth & All Between, Architects’ new studio album will be available on February 28, 2025 on Epitaph.

Discover a new single called Blackhole. This true sonic storm is exemplified by a stunning apocalyptic music video that makes this song as visually striking as it is sonically explosive.
