ROYAL REPUBLIC -WOW! WOW! WOW! – Zenith, Paris 16.11.2024 – Live Review

Le 16 novembre, avec les chaussures de danse aux pieds et la bonne humeur de samedi soir direction le Zénith de Paris pour faire la fête avec ROYAL REPUBLIC !

Un bon mix de rock énergique, disco, funk, punk et beaucoup de FUN, un concert Royal Republic c’est toujours une immense célébration du Rock N’Roll haut en riffs et en couleurs, plein de good vibes, donc on ne manque jamais l’opportunité d’aller le voir quand ils passent dans la capitale.

Après un Olympia sold out l’année dernière, le Zenith de Paris était le choix évident pour les 4 suédois originaires de Malmö de nous présenter LoveCop, leur superbe nouvel album sorti le 7 juin 2024.

La soirée démarre avec une première partie toute aussi explosive : SKIP THE USE, le groupe français originaire du Nord qu’on n’avait pas eu l’occasion de voir depuis bien longtemps.

La salle est en train de se remplir (le Zenith est en configuration réduite ce soir avec des bâches qui couvrent les sièges tout en hauteur) quand le combo formé par Mat Bastard (chant), Yan Stefani (guitare), Enzo Gabert (batterie) et Nelson Martins (basse) monte sur scène à 20h. Dès le premier morceau, leur hit People in the Shadow, le groupe et surtout le frontman Mat Bastard est prêt à en découdre.

Avalanche de décibels et lumières pulsées s’abattent sur le public et Mat ne tarde pas de demander un premier wall of death, ou plutôt un mur de câlins dès leur deuxième chanson. La température monte au fur et à mesure et le groupe français nous offrira 45 minutes de show ultra vitaminé à l’appui de leurs morceaux les plus connus comme Nameless World, Ghost ou Bastard Song, des morceaux plus récents et aussi d’une reprise très énergique de J’t’Emmène au vent de Louise Attack.

Enchaînant les blagues et les interactions avec le public Mat le mène à la baguette. A la fin le charismatique frontman descendra dans la fosse et va former autour de lui un joyeux circle pit pour ensuite se faire porter par la foule jusqu’à la scène.

Il ne manquera pas de remercier plusieurs fois à Royal Republic de les avoir invités et il nous dévoilera aussi une précieuse information : le groupe est en train de travailler sur un nouvel album.

On ne pouvait pas rêver d’une meilleure première partie pour mettre le feu et chauffer l’ambiance avant ROYAL REPUBLIC. Le public, maintenant chaud bouillant, est prêt pour ce qui va suivre.

A 21h15 ROYAL REPUBLIC effectue un démarrage en trombe avec My House, en s’appropriant la scène immédiatement avec cette chanson explosive qui sonne comme une invitation de le rejoindre chez eux, dans leur univers déjanté, pendant le prochaines 2 heures de rock power-disco de haut voltage !

Les 4 fantastiques de Royal Republic armés d’une énergie contagieuse et communicative incroyable, d’un charisme rock naturel irrésistible et d’un excellent set list parfait pour faire la fête, nous ont offert une fois de plus un concert rock éclectisant et inoubliable.

Adam Grahn (chant et guitare rythmique), Hannes Irengård (guitare solo), Jonas Almén (basse) et Per Andreasson (batterie) grands sourires sur leurs visages sont à fond pour déchaîner la foule enthousiaste et lui offrir une soirée inoubliable !

Les 4 fantastiques portent des Perfecto en cuir noir ornées de perles et des patchs Lovecop brodés, pantalons slims noir, baskets blanches, coiffures soignés et laqués surtout pour Adam qui arbore une moustache impressionnante ainsi qu’une superbe guitare « Flying V » transparente et lumineuse.

Les néons inondent la scène, le logo lumineux est blasonné en arrière-plan et même la batterie s’allume dans le rythme. Suit la chanson titre du nouvel album, Lovecop, et le public est en délire. Batterie enflammée, keytar groove, riffs granuleux et percutants et voix puissante, le groupe ensorcèle la foule qui chanté avec eux. La connexion entre le groupe et le public est désormais indestructible.

Gonflé à bloc par la réponse de la foule, ils continuent dans la même veine avec Getting Along. Ils enchainent les poses, les mimiques drôles, des interactions et les quelques riffs de « And Justice For All » de Metallica ne feront qu’accentuer le bonheur de fans.

Baby accrocheur et rebondissant et Boots feront danser et sauter la foule avec encore plus d’enthousiasme.

Evidement personne ne va s’arrêter de bouger sur Stop Movin et son refrain brulant « I wouldn’t stop movin’ if I could stop movin’ » c’est plutôt le contraire et le vibe 80’s délicieux d’Anna-Leigh va apporter sa dose de charme et de sensualité.

La fête bat son plein que le groupe décide de créer un véritable tremblement de terre avec le virevoltant Freakshow et Full Steam Spacemachine, ce dernier garni d’un nouveau riff Metallica cette fois extrait de Ride The Lighthing.

Energie frénétique, le jeu de batterie féroce et époustouflant de Per est hallucinant. Tout le monde vibre à l’unisson. Ça chante et ça saute dans tous le sens en fosse et dans les gradins.

Adam chante chaque mot avec un sourire effronté et une lueur espiègle dans les yeux visiblement heureux de l’effet produit !

Ils vont nous accorder un moment de répit avec un petit interlude acoustique et l’interprétation de Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! et Boomerang avec les 4 musiciens qui jouent en bord de scène : ambiance country -gospel avec de l’harmonica et guitare acoustique. Drôle et divertissant.

Suit Electra et sa mélodie sombre et magnifique avant qu’Adam descend au milieu de la fosse pour interpréter Ain’t Got Time avec une fan invitée et une foule joyeuse atours d’eux.

A peine on reprend le souffle qu’ils attaquent avec l’irrésistible Fireman & Dancer et l’hymne Tommy-Gun, accueillis avec des rugissements par la foule en liesse. Un énorme chaos d’enthousiasme dans la salle. Impossible de ne pas sauter et de se déhancher sur place !

Royal Republic revient sous un tonnerre d’applaudissements pour trois derniers titres : L’excellente ballade Lazerlove et songroove hypnotique qui instaure un certain calme dans la salle avant de déclencher une tempête sonore et visuelle étourdissante avec une reprise ultra puissante de Battery.

Déferlantes des frappes, des riffs et des lumières accompagnent des headbangings de folie dans toute la salle. “Si vous n’aimez pas la chanson, ne nous blâmez pas, blâmez Metallica !” prévient Adam, sourire malicieux.

Final en fanfare avec RATA-TATA scandé à pleins poumons par toute la salle déchainée. Un très bon choix pour clôturer cette fête d’ahurissante que le groupe suédois nous offrent une nouvelle fois avec beaucoup de générosité.

Et alors que les dernières notes s’estompent, la foule a continué à acclamer et à applaudir et le groupe passe un bon moment sur scène pour saluer, danser, prendre de photos et surtout remercier les fans comme il se doit.

Les riffs rapides et sensuels de Hannes, la basse funky de Jonas, le martèlement percutant de la batterie de Per, la voix glamour, rauque et ludique d’Adam et le paroles drôles et accrocheuses, ensemble ont créé une synergie implacable. Impossible de résister à un tel magnétisme, la foule a répondu avec un énorme enthousiasme à chaque moment.

En jugent par les visages rayonnants des fans épuisés mais comblés qui se dirigent doucement vers la sortie en fredonnant encore et encore leur morceau préfère, il est clair que ce soir, la performance de Royal Republic a été sensationnelle.

Et pour décrire encore mieux cette expérience vécue ce soir, pourquoi ne pas emprunter le titre de leur chanson : Wow ! Wow ! Wow !

On November 16th, we put the dancing shoes on and with the Saturday night good mood we head to the Zenith in Paris to party with ROYAL REPUBLIC!

A good mix of energetic rock, disco, funk, punk and a lot of FUN, a Royal Republic concert is always a huge celebration of Rock N’ Roll high in riffs and colours, full of good vibes, so we never miss the opportunity to go see it.

After a sold-out Olympia last year, the Zenith in Paris was the obvious choice for the 4 Swedes from Malmö to present LoveCop, their superb new album released on June 7, 2024.

The evening starts with an equally explosive opening act: SKIP THE USE, the French band from the North that we haven’t had the opportunity to see for a long time.

The room is filling up slowly (the Zenith is in a reduced configuration tonight some sectors of the seats are covered with black tarpaulin) when the combo formed by Mat Bastard (vocals), Yan Stefani (guitar), Enzo Gabert (drums) and Nelson Martins (bass) goes on stage at 8pm. From the first track, their hit People in the Shadow, the band and especially the frontman Mat Bastard is ready to fight.

An avalanche of decibels and pulsating lights descend on the audience and Mat doesn’t take long to ask for a first wall of death, or rather “of hugs” from their second song. The temperature rises gradually, and the French band will offer us 45 minutes of ultra-vitaminized show with the help of their more famous songs such as Nameless World, Ghost or Bastard Song, more recent songs and also a very energetic cover of J’t’Emmene au vent by Louise Attack.

Lots of jokes and interactions with the audience, the charismatic frontman will go down into the pit and form a happy circle pit around him and then he will let himself carried by the crowd back to the stage.

He will not forget to thank Royal Republic several times for inviting them and he will also reveal a precious piece of information: the band is working on a new album.

We couldn’t have dreamed of a better opening act to set the atmosphere on fire and heat up audience before ROYAL REPUBLIC. The fans, now boiling hot, are ready for what is to come.

ROYAL REPUBLIC makes a great start with My House, immediately taking over the stage with this explosive song that sounds like an invitation to join them at home, in their crazy universe, during the next 2 hours of high-voltage power-disco rock!

The fantastic 4 of Royal Republic armed with an incredible contagious and communicative energy, an irresistible natural rock charisma and an excellent set list perfect for partying, offered us once again an eclectic and unforgettable rock concert.

Adam Grahn (vocals and rhythm guitar), Hannes Irengård (lead guitar), Jonas Almén (bass) and Per Andreasson (drums) with big smiles on their faces are all out to unleash the enthusiastic crowd and offer them an unforgettable evening!

The 4 fantastic ones wear black leather Perfecto jackets adorned with pearls and embroidered Lovecop patches, black slim pants, white sneakers, neat and lacquered hairstyles especially for Adam who sports an impressive moustache as well as a superb transparent and luminous “Flying V” guitar.

Neon lights flood the stage, the illuminated logo is emblazoned in the background and even the drums light up in the rhythm. The title track of the new album, Lovecop, followed, and the audience is delirious.

Fiery drums, keytar groove, grainy and percussive riffs and powerful voice, the band bewitches the crowd that sang with them. The connection between the band and the audience is now indestructible.

Pumped up by the response of the crowd, they continue in the same vein with Getting Along. They string together poses, funny mimics, interactions and the few riffs of Metallica’s And Justice For All will only accentuate the happiness of fans.

Catchy, bouncy Baby and Boots will have the crowd dancing and jumping with even more excitement.

The party was in full swing when the band decided to create a real earthquake with the twirling Freakshow and Full Steam Spacemachine, the last one garnished with a new Metallica riff this time from Ride The Lighthing. Frenetic energy, Per’s fierce and breathtaking drumming is hallucinating. Everyone vibrates in unison. The crowd sings and jumps in all directions in the pit and in the stands.

Adam sings every word with a cheeky smile and a mischievous gleam in his eyes, visibly happy with the effect produced!

They will give us a moment of respite with a small acoustic interlude and the interpretation of Wow! Wow! Wow! and Boomerang with the 4 musicians playing on the edge of the stage, country-gospel atmosphere with harmonica and acoustic guitar. Funny and entertaining.

Then follows Electra and its dark and beautiful melody. Adam will go down to the middle of the pit to perform Ain’t Got Time with a guest fan and a cheerful crowd around them.

As soon as we catch our breath, they attack with the irresistible Fireman & Dancer and the Tommy-Gun anthem, greeted with roars by the cheering crowd. A huge chaos of enthusiasm in the room. It’s impossible not to jump and dance on the spot!

Royal Republic will return under thunderous applause for three last tracks:

The excellent ballad Lazerlove and its hypnotic groove that establishes a certain calm in the room before triggering a dizzying sound and visual storm with an ultra-powerful cover of Battery. Surge of strikes and riffs and lights accompany crazy headbanging throughout the room. “If you don’t like the song, don’t blame us, blame Metallica!” warns Adam, with a mischievous smile.

The finale was fanfare style with RATA-TATA sung at the top of the lungs by the entire unleashed room. A very good choice to close this astounding party that the Swedish band offers us once again with great generosity.

And as the last notes faded, the crowd continued to cheer and applaud and the band had a great time on stage to greet, dance, take pictures and above all thank the fans as they should.

Impossible to resist such magnetism, the crowd responded with enormous enthusiasm at every moment. Judging by the beaming faces of the exhausted but fulfilled fans who are slowly making their way out humming their favourite song over and over again, it’s clear that tonight’s ROYAL REPUBLIC performance was sensational.

And to describe tonight’s experience even better and shorter, why not borrow the title of their song: Wow! Wow! Wow!
