The Cult, le premier album de PARALLYX, est sorti le 4 octobre 2024 et le groupe français se prépare pour sa Release Party, prévue le 8 novembre 2024 à l’Espace Vasarely, 92160 Antony.

Formé par Lina Benabdesslem (vocals), Adrien Gottis (guitare), Robin Cabaret (Drums), Corentin Miara (Bass) et Mathis Megrier (Guitare) le combo originaire de la région parisienne nous offre un premier opus lourd et ultra énergique, truffé des belles mélodies qui mettent en valeur le chant éblouissant de la charismatique frontwoman. Neuf compositions de metalcore moderne et efficace enrichi par des éléments électro atmosphériques et des touches djent jazzy et bondissantes, le résultat d’un travail dur et passionné.

Si on avait déjà rencontré LINA pour son projet SLEEPING ROMANCE, cette fois, j’ai eu le plaisir de la rencontrer en compagnie de ses deux compagnons du groupe PARALLYX, Corentin et Adrien.

Nous avons parlé du groupe, de la création de ce premier album très réussi, de leurs inspirations, des futurs projets et de l’initiation au chant métal auprès des enfants. Découvrez notre interview et allez le voir en concert!

Lina, c’est toi qui as démarré le groupe. Est-ce que tu pourras nous raconter comment est né le projet PARALLYX ?

Lina : Comme tu le sais, j’ai 2 autres projets musicaux ABHCAN et SLEEPING ROMANCE. Et en fait, je trouvais qu’il me manquait un petit quelque chose. En créant PARALLYX, je répondais à une petite frustration que j’avais : de ne pas pouvoir faire de métal comme j’aime écouter à la salle. Avoir l’énergie folle de ces groupes que j’adore écouter. Et j’ai créé PARALLYX pour répondre à cette envie-là. 

J’ai recruté, donc d’abord Robin à la batterie qui partageait mes goûts et ma vision des choses aussi, parce qu’en termes de gestion de projet, je voulais quelqu’un qui veuille fonctionner de la même manière que moi.

Il m’a parlé de Corentin avec qui il avait déjà travaillé déjà pour d’autres projets. Corentin est arrivé et il m’a parlé d’Adrien avec qui il avait déjà travaillé. Robin m’a aussi parlé de Mathis avec qui il avait travaillé aussi et ça s’est fait comme ça. J’ai tiré le fil et tout le monde est arrivé au fur et à mesure.

Est-ce que le mot PARALLYX veut dire quelque chose ?

Lina : C’est un nom inventé. Concrètement, ça ne veut rien dire.Je voulais un nom qui n’évoque rien en particulier pour pouvoir vraiment se faire enfin comme on dit, une clean Slate (table rase). Quand tu pars de rien et qu’on n’attende rien de toi. Qu’on ne se fasse pas une idée du groupe juste parce que le nom de groupe ressemble à quelque chose.

Il y a « parallaxe » qui est l’effet du changement de position de l’observateur sur ce qu’il perçoit. Tu sais quand selon le point de vue où tu trouves, tu ne vois pas la même chose, alors que tu regardes la même chose.

Et même si j’aime bien l’idée que PARALLYX fasse penser à parallaxe pour ce que le concept évoque, c’est clair que le nom du groupe n’a pas été choisi à partir de là.

Lina tu écris de la fantaisie et pour l’album The Cult tu t’es inspiré de sectes. Pourras-tu nous dire un peu plus sur le thématique de l’album ?

Lina :  Oui, c’est clairement lié. Pour mes histoires, les sectes sont une grosse source d’inspiration, surtout les sectes où j’ai l’impression qu’il y a une histoire de paranormal, un truc magique derrière. Je voulais puiser donc dans cette source d’inspiration pour écrire aussi les paroles de PARALLYX.

D’ailleurs le signe de PARALLYX qu’on peut voir sur le artwork, le cercle avec les 2 traits se retrouve aussi dans un de mes romans pour le symbole d’une autre secte un peu inquiétante.

Mon but c’était vraiment de créer tout un univers autour des sectes.

Donc chaque chanson de The Cultraconte un épisode de l’histoire d’une même secte, une secte mexicaine crée par Magdalena Solis, dans des moments différents. Du moment où la secte a été créée par Magdalena avec ses frères au moment où elle s’est fait arrêter et même quand elle est en prison.

Comment ça s’est passé le processus de création ?  Comment est-ce que vous avez travaillé ensemble ?

Corentin : Pour ce qui est de la musique avant l’arrivée de Mathis et Adrien fin janvier, on avait très peu de morceaux et il a fallu qu’on compose beaucoup de morceaux rapidement puisqu’on avait des échéances qui arrivaient.

Lina : On s’est enfermé dans une grande maison en Suisse pendant une semaine.

Corentin :  c’était bien parce que ça nous a permis être complètement focus et de se concentrer à 100% là-dessus, baigner dans toute cette musique et de se concentrer, de venir chacun avec nos petites idées et broder là-dessous. Par exemple, Lina arrivait avec une mélodie et on trouvait des arrangements, des harmonies à mettre par-dessus.

Tout le processus de la composition jusqu’à la jusqu’au mixage final a pris environs 5-6 mois.

C’était rapide

Lina : On trouve que les choses le mieux ficelées aujourd’hui sont celles qui ne prennent pas trop de temps. Si je fais le parallèle avec l’écriture d’un roman, on dit souvent que pour garder le fil c’est plus simple d’écrire d’un coup. On ne parle pas de se précipiter, mais de se fixer un vrai temps de travail, qu’il soit bien délimité et bien cadré. à mon avis, ça va être moins décousu et plus pertinent et impactant quand c’est réalisé dans un dans un laps de temps donné. C’est ça que qu’on a essayé de faire

Et on est contents parce que notre album, il a été composé et va sortir dans la même année et ça c’est un luxe.

En même temps vous avez fait aussi des concerts cette été, donc vous avez pu jouer les nouveaux morceaux en live ?

Adrien : oui, en pluson a dû monter le live aussi. Une fois que les morceaux sont là, il faudra les faire aussi sur scène avec un bon son et tout ce que ça implique : le travail d’arrangement et le travail de mise en place de matériel. C’était une année chargée.

Est-ce que vous avez chacun d’entre vous une un morceau préféré ?

Adrien : Mon préféré est Pandemonium parce qu’il ya des éléments que j’adore, des effets un peu différents par rapport à d’autres morceaux.  J’ai aussi beaucoup travaillé dessus.

J’aime bien jouerRemedyaussi parce que c’est de la violence pure. Il est satisfaisant dans son agressivité. Il n’est pas trop difficile à jouer, il est assez terre à terre.

Lina : La preuve qu’on n’a pas besoin de faire des trucs hyper techniques en fait pour avoir des morceaux impactantes et qui font plaisir à la fois à écouter mais aussi à jouer.

Corentin : C’est difficile d’en choisir un morceau dans l’album mais on va dire que à jouer en live, Matriochka est très chouette parce que c’est très jumpy et il y a cette communion avec le public qu’on arrive à faire sauter là-dessus, et c’est très cool à jouer.

Remedy aussi parce que c’est quelque chose de très lourd, très impactant ; C’est un bel exutoire.Et puis à écouter Pandemonium est vraiment chouette. Le refrain est très épique, très grandiose.

Lina : Pandemonium est la plus versatile aussi et elle couvre le plus le spectre PARALLYX. Et pour répondre à ta question si je devais en choisir une à jouer tout le temps et une à écouter ça serait différent. A jouer Matriochka qui fait sauter tout le monde nous inclus et j’ai Pandemonium à écouter qui est très satisfaisante par ce riff djent et le refrain qui est super, hyper épique et les couplets qui sont screamé comme j’aime.

Le chant est impressionnant et très variée : clair ou saturé, rappe et un peu oriental avec quelques passages en arabe. Comment est-ce que tu colles le chant, à la musique ?

Lina :  Tout se met en place avec les instruments et les éléments d’atmosphère. Et là commence à se dire, là on verrait bien un scream ou là un chant en arabe.

Corentin : c’est aussi ce côté très éclectique de la voix de Lina. C’est très facile de composer parce que si on a une idée on ne se met pas de barrières. Du quelque chose très mélodique, très ample on peut passer avec la voix de Lina à un truc très rythmique que ça soit du rap ou scream. Et ça marche.

Et on se dit Waouh c’est super là et on va pousser le délire un peu loin. On essaie de voir dans un premier temps et ensuite on essaie les choses pour voir où ça nous mènera.

Lina : Effectivement on ne se met pas des limites. Sur Rituals par exemple, on n’avait jamais fait un couplet en arabe et ça a marché.

Il n’y a pas de chanson en français. Vous allez en faire ?

Lina : Ce n’est pas dans les plans. Rien contre la langue française Mais je préfère écrire en français que chanter en français.

Corentin : À moins d’une collab avec un artiste qui chante en français. On ne ferme pas les portes.

Vous avez travaillé avec plusieurs personnes sur l’album, dont Daniel Haniss d’Electric Callboy. Comment ça s’est passé cette collaboration ? Comme vous l’avez rencontré ?

Lina : on s’était croisée au Hellfest. On avait discuté et on s’est super bien entendu lui et moi et puis un jour, je lui ai dit  que je suis en train de chercher quelqu’un pour mixer l’album de mon premier groupe. On n’a encore que quelques demos est-ce que ça peut t’intéresser d’écouter ?

Il a accepté et Il a bien aimé. Et donc, je suis allée dans le studio d’ElectricCallboy pour enregistrer avec Daniel et il m’a coaché vraiment sur le chant de Vices Of Men. Et depuis on est en contact et ça se passe super bien. Pour nous, c’était important de l’avoir sur notre album et en plus, il est très sympa et il est expert dans ce qu’il fait. On était vraiment contents d’avoir son soutien dès le début. Il suit un peu Parallyx. Il voit ce qu’on fait, on est en contact, on échange, donc on se sent quand même chapeauté par lui.

Une collaboration bientôt avec eux ?

Lina : on a des styles qui sont assez quand même différents, même si on a un visuel assez similaire mais pourquoi pas s’ils ont le temps pour nous ça sera avec grand plaisir.

Ils ont explosé dernièrement. C’est un véritable phénomène. On aimerait se hisser à ce stade-là.

Corentin : Concernant les autres collaborations sur l’album, on a fait appel à Anthony Chognard qui mixe entre autres Smash Hit Combo et qui a aussi joué Smash Hit Combo.

C’est lui qui a mixé le reste de l’album et ça s’est très bien passé avec lui.

Lina : On a essayé de s’entourer des personnes bien implantées dans le milieu. Non pas parce qu’on voulait donner des noms, mais parce qu’on sait que ces personnes-là savaient ce qu’elles faisaient et parce qu’elles nous donneront des bons conseils pour la suite et manifestement ça marche bien.

Comment vous choisissez vos outfit pour la scène ? Lina, tu crées aussi des T shirts as-tu prévu quelque chose de spécial pour le groupe ?

Lina : J’aime bien mettre des vêtements qui sortent un peu de l’ordinaire sur scène, pas juste le noir et le cuir assez habituel.

Il ya donc une vraie recherche que je fais à chaque fois et les gars aussi d’ailleurs. On fait très attention à la manière dont on va s’habiller sur scène, parce qu’on veut sortir un peu du cliché du métalleux tout en noir, tout en gardant quand même un petit aspect noir parce que simplement le noir va a tout le monde.

On essaie de trouver un équilibre. J’ai un T shirt jaune, qu’on peut voir dans les clips comme un Simley avec les croix et ça me donne des idées aussi pour la direction à prendre. Je suis en train d’y réfléchir.

Effectivement, pourquoi ne pas en créer moi-même. Mais ça va demander un peu de temps. Et puis c’est vrai que se commander ça en exemplaire unique, ça ne sera pas forcément très rentable. A voir.

On fait du Gym Métal sur scène. Donc quand on vient nous voir en concert, on met ses baskets pour bien sauter ! Lina

La Release Party est prévue le 8 novembre, est-ce que vous avez d’autre dates prévues ?

Lina :  On a d’autres choses prévues début janvier,  aux 18 marches à Moissy-Cramayel (77) et hors France aussi.

Corentin :  On fait ça petit à petit et pour le moment, la date la plus importante, c’est La Release Party, vendredi 8 novembre à l’Espace Vasarely à Antony dans le 92. On a prévu une grosse soirée avec plein de surprises.

Lina : On va jouer notre album en entier aussi et ça n’arrivera probablement plus jamais.

Lina via tes nombreuses activités, tu fais la promotion du chant métal, même dans les écoles primaires. Tu pourras nous en dire plus ?

Lina : je suis prof de chant et c’est important pour moi de montrer à quel point le métal est truffé de bonne volonté par rapport aux préjugés qu’on lui attribue.

J’essaie vraiment de montrer, de partager cet aspect sain de la voix dans le métal. Ce n’est pas ce qu’on croit, ça fait pas mal. Ce ne sont pas des bruits de fous.

Je suis en train de créer une école de chant avec des amis prof de chants. L’école qui s’appelle Sing & Scream et c’est une école qui a pour vocation de mobiliser toutes les ressources pour que les gens comprennent le chant métal.

Et pour cela l’école Jacques Baumont de Montendrem’a contacté pour initier les enfants de CM1 et CM2 au chant Rock et Metal donc mon rôle est d’apprendre le chant saturé à des enfants en présence de leurs parents.

A l’occasion des Journées du Matrimoine à Macon près Lyon, je vais faire aussi un cours pour les femmes qui ont envie d’apprendre la saturation un peu loin du regard de hommes. Parce que forcément elles se sentent très vite jugés car les hommes y arrivent plus facilement.

En fait, il faut savoir qu’il n’y a rien qui fait que les hommes soit plus équipé pour le chant saturé, c’est juste qu’on les encourage à crier et à faire des bruits de monstre en étant enfant, alors que ce n’est pas trop le cas pour les filles.

Et donc en grandissant les garçons y arrivent plus vite. Et quand les filles apprennent avec des garçons à coté, y a tout de suite une frustration que se crée.

Et donc une asso a une idée, on va mettre juste des femmes dans une pièce et leur apprendre le chant saturé. Quand on m’a proposé, j’ai été toute de suite partante.

Est-ce que vous avez un groupe qui vous inspirent en ce moment ?

Corentin : on a des influences très éclectique, pas forcément tournées que autour du métal. Ou alors dans le métal, on écoute des trucs qui ne sont pas forcément ce qu’on a envie de jouer ou de faire transparaître en Parallyx, mais forcément ça nous influence un peu.

Moi, en ce moment j’aime Rise of the Northstar et The Amity Affliction, des groupes qui aucun rapport avec nous.

Lina :  ARCHITECTS j’adore, j’adore, j’adore. Ça a été une énorme découverte au Hellfest et c’est un groupe qu’en studio au début, je n’accrochais pas forcément et en live j’ai compris et depuis j’adore même en studio.

Et Bloodywood qui est mon énorme découverte. Je l’ai au vu à Hellfest à 11h00 du matin à le Mainstage, c’était génial, je n’avais jamais vu la Main stage aussi rempli si tôt dans la journée. Et je les ai vu au Trabendo aussi.

D’ailleurs le guitariste et le créateur de Bloodywood suit Parallyx de très près et on est devenue des bonnes connaissances. Il me donné beaucoup de précieux conseils, de conseils aussi sur la gestion du groupe. Il a écouté tout l’album et  il a adoré. Comme je disais on est bien entouré.

Adrien : c’est un peu difficile de répondre car j’écoute plein d’autres styles hors métal aussi. Pas si longtemps j’ai découvert LANDMVRKS.  J’aime beaucoup la branche hardcore du métal. J’ai écouté beaucoup de deathcore aussi, mais là j’ai vraiment aimé ce groupe parce qu’il y avait un côté hardcore très à l’ancienne mais en même temps une vague de fraîcheur dans leur musique que je n’arriverai pas à définir. Ils sont plus mélodiques et je trouve ils ont bien réussi à mêler les 2 univers et ça marche vraiment très bien. C’est un peu mon truc du moment.

Corentin : je sais que Mathis écoute beaucoup du Bring Me the Horizon en ce moment et que Robin écoute TEN56 pas mal aussi, donc encore autre chose si reste sur du métal exclusivement on va dire. Après on écoute aussi pas mal de Hip Hop & RNB pour Mathis, reggae pour Adrien, moi j’ai fait pas mal du jazz et du classique, des musiques de fims, donc forcément ça nous inspire pour certaines harmonies

Lina : on est tous très curieux en général. Et pour écrire cet album mais on s’est aussi penché sur ce fait maintenant et se cultiver à ce niveaux-là. On voulait tout simplement s’inspirer de ce que nous nous plaisait et ce qu’on aimait écouter et retrouver notre bonheur à nous.

Et la suite ? Quelle sont les projets ? Un 2e album déjà en préparation ?

Corentin : Ça a commencé tranquillement. On a des idées, il se peut qu’il y ait quelques maquettes en préparation.

Adrien : forcément on pense au 2eme album, même si là on est très focus sur la Release Party de ce premier album et toute la promotion de cet album. On a très envie de partager notre travail de toute cette année.

En fait, les premiers morceaux qu’on a composés sur ce premier album ils sont déjà un petit peu différent de ceux qu’on a composé sur la fin de l’album et un peu différents de ce qu’on va composer par la suite. En fait, tout évolue très vite, même nous dans nos goûts personnels et dans nos envies de composer. La suite va arriver.

Lina : les gens n’auront pas à attendre longtemps avant qu’on ait des nouveautés

Corentin : en décembre Il y a des petits trucs qui vont arriver, on n’en dit pas plus.

Lina :  ça sera toujours lié au premier album pour les sorties de décembre alors, mais ça sera on va dire sous un nouveau jour.

Un dernier mot

Adrien : Abonnez-vous et écoutez l’album. On j’espère qu’il vous plaira. A nous ça nous a plu, donc c’est un bon début.

Corentin : On a pris beaucoup de plaisir à l’écrire, à l’enregistrer et à le partager. On a mis beaucoup de temps, beaucoup d’énergie, beaucoup de passion, d’amour et de l’argent aussi. C’est un beau projet. N’hésitez pas à l’écouter c’est vraiment très chouette.

On a bien fait attention de mettre sur chaque morceau son importance. Y a un quasiment un clip par morceau.

Ce n’est pas le cas, ça pourrait arriver. Chaque morceau a vraiment son importance.

Lina : Chaque morceau sera mis en avant d’une manière ou d’une autre à l’avenir.

On a travaillé très dur sur chaque morceau et on veut que chaque morceau soit écouté. C’est pour ça qu’on a sorti 6 singles et on va continuer à mettre en valeur certains morceaux d’autres manières après la sortie de l’album pour que vraiment chaque morceau soit écouté, soit pris en compte et qu’on donne le temps à chaque morceau d’exister et pas qu’il y ait les singles et les autres.

C’est important pour nous que les gens réalise tout le travail qu’il y a derrière chaque morceau. On n’a pas fait de filler. Chaque morceau pour nous méritait d’être un single et on va le traiter comme tel.

Donc écoutez notre album, écoutez-le plusieurs fois, écoutez chaque morceau de notre album et partagez le si vous aimez.

Lina : on fait du sport sur scène. Avec PARALLYX on fait du Gym Métal sur scène. On fait du métal de salle de sport. Donc quand on vient nous voir en concert, on se prépare, on met ses baskets pour bien sauter !

The Cult, PARALLYX’s debut album, was released on October 4, 2024, and the French band is preparing for its Release Party scheduled for November 8, 2024 at Espace Vasarely, 92160 Antony.

Formed by Lina Benabdesslem (vocals), Adrien Gottis (guitars), Robin Cabaret (drums), Corentin Miara (bass), Mathis Megrier (guitars) the combo from the Paris region offers us a heavy and ultra energetic first album, full of beautiful melodies that highlight a dazzling singing of the charismatic frontwoman. Nine compositions of modern and effective metalcore enriched by atmospheric electro elements and jazzy and bouncy djent touches, the result of hard and passionate work.

If we had already met Lina for her project SLEEPING ROMANCE, this time I had the pleasure of meeting her in the company of her two PARALLYX bandmates, Corentin and Adrien.

We talked about PARALLYX, the creation of this great first album, their inspirations and also about the teaching of metal singing to children and women. Check out our interview and go to see them live !

Lina, you started the band. Can you tell us how the PARALLYX project was born? 

Lina: As you know, I have 2 other musical projects ABHCAN and SLEEPING ROMANCE. And in fact, I felt that I was missing something. By creating PARALLYX, I was responding to a little frustration I had: not being able to make metal as I like to listen to gym. To have the crazy energy of these bands that I love to listen to. And I created PARALLYX to meet that desire.

I first recruited Robin on drums who shared my tastes and my vision of things too, because in terms of project management, I wanted someone who wanted to work in the same way as me. He told me about Corentin, with whom he had already worked on other projects. Corentin arrived and he told me about Adrien with whom he had already worked. Robin also told me about Mathis with whom he had also worked… so I pulled the thread, and everyone arrived in the band.

Does the word PARALLYX mean anything?

Lina: It’s a made-up name. It doesn’t mean anything. I wanted a name that didn’t evoke anything in particular so that I could really finally make a clean Slate. When you start from nothing and nothing is expected of you. Don’t get an idea of the band just because the band name sounds like something.

There is “parallax” which is the effect of the change in the observer’s position on what he perceives. You know, when depending on the point of view you find, you don’t see the same thing, while you look at the same thing.  And even if I like the idea that PARALLYX is reminiscent of parallax for what the concept evokes, it’s clear that the name of the band was not chosen from there.

Lina, you write fantasy and for the album The Cult you were inspired by cults. Could you tell us a little more about the theme of the album?

Lina: Yes, it’s definitely related. For my stories, cults are a big source of inspiration, especially cults where I have the impression that there is a paranormal story, a magical thing behind it. So, I wanted to draw on this source of inspiration to also write the lyrics of PARALLYX. By the way, the sign of PARALLYX that can be seen on the artwork, the circle with the 2 lines is also found in one of my novels for the symbol of another disturbing cult.

My goal was really to create a whole universe around cults. So, each song on The Cult tells an episode of the history of the same cult, a Mexican cult created by Magdalena Solis. From the moment the sect was created by Magdalena with her brothers to the moment she was arrested and even when she is in prison.

How did the creative process go?  How did you guys work together?

Corentin: As for the music, before the arrival of Mathis and Adrien at the end of January, we had very few songs and we had to compose a lot of songs quickly because we had deadlines coming up. 

Lina: We locked ourselves in a big house in Switzerland for a week.

Corentin: It was good because it allowed us to be completely focused at 100% on it, to bathe in all this music and to concentrate, to come each of us  with our little ideas and embroider there. For example, Lina would come up with a melody and we would find arrangements, harmonies to put on top. The whole process from the composition to the final mix took about 5-6 months.

It was fast

Lina: We find that the best things put together today are the ones that don’t take too long. If I make the parallel with the writing of a novel, it is often said that to keep track it is easier to write all at once. We are not talking about rushing, but about setting a real working time, that it is well defined and well framed.

In my opinion, it’s going to be less disjointed and more relevant and impactful when it’s done in a given period of time. That’s what we tried to do.

 And we’re happy because our album, it was composed and will be released in the same year and that’s a luxury!

At the same time you also did some concerts this summer, so you were able to play the new songs live

Adrien: Yes, in addition we had to adapt them in the live show too. Once the songs are there, we will also have to do them on stage with a good sound and all that that implies: the work of arranging and the work of setting up the equipment. It was a busy year.

Do you each of you have a favourite song?

Adrien: My favourite is Pandemonium because there are elements that I love, effects that are a little different compared to other songs.  I also worked a lot on it.  I like to play Remedy too because it’s pure violence. He is satisfactory in his aggressiveness, and it is not too difficult to play, he’s quite down to earth.

Lina: Proof that you don’t need to do hyper technical stuff in fact to have impactful songs that are both fun to listen to and to play.

Corentin: It’s difficult to choose a song from the album but let’s say that playing live, Matryoshka is very nice because it’s very jumpy and there’s this communion with the audience that we manage to make jump on that, and it’s very cool to play.

Remedy also because it’s something very heavy, very impactful. And then listening to Pandemonium is really nice. The chorus is very epic, very grandiose.

Lina: Pandemonium is the most versatile too and it covers the PARALLYX spectrum the most. And to answer your question, if I had to choose one to play all the time and one to listen to, it would be different.

I love playing Matryoshka which blows everyone up includes us and I love listening to Pandemonium which is very satisfying with this djent riff and the chorus which is great, super epic and the verses which are screamed as I like. 

The vocals are impressive and very varied: clear or growl, rap or oriental with some passages in Arabic. How do you stick the vocals to the music?

Lina: Everything falls into place with the instruments and the atmospheric elements. And then you start to think, and you could see a scream or a verse in Arabic.

Corentin: It’s also this very eclectic side of Lina’s voice. It’s very easy to compose because if you have an idea you don’t put up barriers. From something very melodic, very ample we can go with Lina’s voice to something very rhythmic, whether it’s rap or scream. And it works.  And we say to ourselves, wow, that’s great and we’re going to push the delirium a little far. We try first and then we see where it will take us.

Lina: Indeed, we don’t set limits for ourselves. On Rituals for example, we had never done a verse in Arabic and it worked.

We do Gym Metal on stage. So, when you come to see us in concert put on your sneakers to jump well!

There are no songs in French. Are you going to do it?

Lina: It’s not in the plans. Nothing against the French language but I prefer to write in French than to sing in French.

Corentin: Unless there’s a collab with an artist who sings in French. We don’t close the doors

You worked with several people on the album, including Daniel Haniss from Electric Callboy. How did this collaboration go? How did you meet him?

Lina: We had crossed paths at Hellfest. We had talked and we got along really well and then one day, I told him that I’m looking for someone to mix the album of my first band. I told him that we only have a few demos yet, would you be interested in listening?

He accepted and he liked it. I went to Electric Callboy’s studio to record with Daniel and he really coached me on the vocals of Vices Of Men. And since then, we’ve been in contact and it’s going really well. For us, it was important to have him on our album and on top of that, he’s very nice and he’s an expert at what he does.

We were really happy to have his support from the beginning. He follows Parallyx a bit. He sees what we’re doing, we’re in contact, we exchange, so we still feel overseen by him.

A collaboration with Electric Callboy soon?

Lina: We have different styles even if we have a fairly similar visual but why not if they have time for us, it will be with great pleasure. They exploded recently. It is a real phenomenon. We would like to get to that stage.

Corentin: And regarding the other collaborations on the album, we called on Anthony Chognard who mixes Smash Hit Combo among others and who also played Smash Hit Combo. He was the one who mixed the rest of the album, and it went very well with him.

Lina: We tried to surround ourselves with people who are well established in the field. Not because we wanted to give names, but because we know that these people knew what they were doing and because they will give us good advice for the future and obviously it works well.

How you choose your outfit for the stage. Lina, you also create T-shirts so you have something special planned for the band?

Lina: I like to wear clothes that are a little out of the ordinary on stage, not just the usual black and leather.  So, there’s a real search that I do every time and so do the guys by the way. We are very careful about the way we are going to dress on stage, because we want to get out of the cliché of the metalhead all in black, while still keeping a little black aspect because black suits everyone. 

We try to find a balance. I have a yellow T-shirt, which you can see in the videos like a Simley with the crosses and it also gives me ideas for the direction to take. I’m thinking about it.  Indeed, why not create something myself. But it will take a little time. And it’s true that ordering this as a single copy won’t necessarily be very profitable. I’ll think about it.

The Release Party is scheduled for November 8th, do you have any other dates planned?

Lina: We have other things planned for the beginning of January at 18Marches (77- Moissy-Cramayel) and outside France too.

Corentin: We’re doing it step by step and for the moment, the most important date is the Release Party, Friday 8 November at the Espace Vasarely in Antony in the 92. We have planned a big evening with lots of surprises. 

Lina: We’re going to play our whole album too and it’s probably never going to happen again.

Lina through your many activities, you promote the metal singing, even in primary schools. Can you tell us more about it?

Lina: I’m a singing teacher and it’s important for me to show how metal is full of goodwill in relation to the prejudices that are attributed to it. I really try to show, to share this healthy aspect of the voice in metal. It’s not what we think, it doesn’t hurt. These are not crazy noises.

I’m in the process of creating a singing school with some singing teacher friends. The school is called Sing & Scream and it is a school that aims to mobilize all the resources so that people understand metal singing.

The Jacques Baumont school in Montendre contacted me to introduce CM1 and CM2 children to Rock and Metal singing, so my role is to teach growl singing to children in the presence of their parents.

And also, on the occasion of the Matrimony Days in Macon near Lyon, I give a course for women who want to learn growl far from the gaze of men. Because inevitably they feel judged very quickly because men can do it more easily. 

In fact, you should know that there is nothing that makes men more equipped for growl singing, it’s just that they are encouraged to scream and make monster noises as children, while this is not really the case for girls.

And so, as they grow up, boys get there faster. And when girls learn with boys next door, there is immediately a frustration that is created. And so an association has an idea, we’re going to put just women in a room and teach them growl singing. When they ask me to teach, I was immediately up for it.

Do you have a band that inspires you at the moment?

Corentin: We have very eclectic influences, not necessarily only around metal. Or in metal, we listen to stuff that is not necessarily what we want to play or to make appear in Parallyx, but inevitably it influences us a little. On my side, in this moment, I like Rise of the Northstar and The Amity Affliction, bands that have nothing to do with us.

Lina: ARCHITECTS I love, I love, I love them. It was a huge discovery at Hellfest and it’s a band that at the beginning, I didn’t necessarily like in the studio but live I understood and since then I love it even in the studio.

And Bloodywood which is my huge discovery. I saw it at Hellfest at 11:00 in the morning at the Mainstage, it was great, I had never seen the Mainstage so full so early in the day. And I saw them at the Trabendo, too.

By the way, the guitarist and creator of Bloodywood follows Parallyx very closely and we have become good acquaintances. He gave me a lot of valuable advice, advice also on the management of the group. He listened to the whole album, and he loved it. As I said, we are well surrounded.

Adrien: It’s a bit difficult to answer because I listen to a lot of other styles outside of metal too. Not so long ago, I discovered LANDMVRKS.  I really like the hardcore branch of metal. I listened to a lot of deathcore too, but here I really liked this band because there was a very old-fashioned hardcore side but at the same time a wave of freshness in their music that I won’t be able to define. They are more melodic, and I think they have managed to mix the 2 universes well. It’s kind of my thing at the moment.

Corentin: I know that Mathis listens to a lot of Bring Me the Horizon at the moment and that Robin listens to TEN56 a lot too, so something else if you stay on metal exclusively, let’s say.

Then we also listen to a lot of Hip Hop & RNB for Mathis, reggae for Adrien, I’ve done a lot of jazz and classical, film music, so obviously it inspires us for some harmonies

Lina: we’re all very curious in general. And to write this album, but we also looked at what is happening in music now and cultivate ourselves at that level. We simply wanted to be inspired by what we liked and what we liked to listen to and find our own happiness.

And what’s next? A 2nd album already in preparation?

Corentin: It started slowly. We have ideas, there may be some demos in preparation.

Adrien: Of course we’re thinking about the 2nd album, even if we’re very focused on the Release Party of this first album and all the promotion of this album. We really want to share our work this year. In fact, the first songs we composed on this first album are already a little different from the ones we composed at the end of the album and a little different from what we will compose later. In fact, everything evolves very quickly, even us in our personal tastes and in our desires to compose. The rest will come.

Lina: People won’t have to wait long for new stuff

Corentin: in December there are little things that will happen, we won’t say more.

Lina: It will still be linked to the first album for the December releases then, but it will be in a new light.

Adrien: Subscribe and listen to the album. I hope you like it. We liked it, so it’s a good start.

Corentin: We had a lot of fun writing it, recording it and sharing it. We put a lot of time, a lot of energy, a lot of passion, love and money too. It’s a great project. Don’t hesitate to listen to it, it’s really nice.  We were careful to put on each track its importance. There’s almost one clip per song. It’s not the case, it could happen. Each track really matters.

Lina: Every track will be highlighted in some way in the future. We’ve worked really every song and we want every song to be listened to. That’s why we released 6 singles and we’re going to continue to highlight certain tracks in other ways after the release of the album so that really each track is listened to, is taken into account and that we give time to each track to exist and not that there are singles and the others.

It’s important to us that people realize all the work that goes into each track. We didn’t do filler. Every song for us deserved to be a single and we’re going to treat it as such. So listen to our album, listen to it several times, listen to each track of our album and share it if you like.  And on November 8th, come listen to us, come meet us and buy our Merch to support us.  That’s what will help us produce the next album, there’s no secret.

Corentin: yes, come to see us on stage and above all come and enjoy all this energy with us on stage.
