Happy F*cking Birthday Tour 2024, la tournée des BLUES PILLS commencée en début du mois, passait par Paris, le 16 octobre 2024.
L’une de plus belle découverte de l’année, le 4eme album du groupe sorti en août dernier, BIRTHDAY, figure dans notre « Best Of 2024 ». Il fallait maintenant qu’il passe le test du live, surtout que les Suédois se sont forgés une grande réputation live.
C’est donc avec une certaine fébrilité qu’on se dirige vers la Maroquinerie (et pas à la pharmacie !) par cette belle soirée d’automne pour tester les pilules bleus…
En arrivant à 20h, il y a toujours une file d’attente devant la Maroquinerie, ce qui va nous faire rater le début de la première partie, assurée ce soir par le groupe canadien Daniel Romano’s Outfit.
Premier constat, la salle grouille de monde et l’ambiance est chaude. Le groupe au look 70’s mené par Daniel Romano à la guitare et au chant, accompagné par Carson McHone (chant et tambourine), Ian Ski Romano (drums) et Tommy Commy /The Major (chant et bass) délivre une performance énergique et captivante.
Des solos dynamiques, des belles harmonies vocales, le groupe distille des sonorités blues rock vintage mêlés à des touches folk, psychédéliques et punk, situées quelque part entre The Who et The Ramones. Le public apprécie et applaudit chaleureusement.
Quelque réglages, environs 20 minutes d’attente et c’est enfin le tour de BLUES PILLS de prendre les commandes devant un public très impatient. La salle est comble ! C’est normal, le concert est SOLD OUT !
C’est sur la chanson de The Beatles – Birthday que le combo arrive sur scène peu après 21h : Zack Anderson (guitare), André Kvarnström (batterie) et Kristoffer Schander (basse) suivi de près par la chanteuse Elin Larsson qui porte une belle blouse noire fluide, pantalon vert métallique et petits bottines blanches.
Toute de suite, le blues rock grondant de BIRTHDAY fait trembler la petite salle. Riffs efficaces, rhythmique tonitruante et voix puissante, le morceau titre de l’album est suivi par l’exaltant, Don’t You Love It, rapide et accrocheur, véritable montée d’adrénaline et par l’explosive Bad Choices mené par un groove percussif et une cadence hypnotique.
Le groupe a donc choisi de démarrer le concert avec le même enchaînement de titres que sur le nouvel album et les morceaux prennent vie magistralement.
BLUES PILLS délivre ce soir un concert électrisant porté magistralement par Elin Larsson, radieuse et débordante de vitalité.
La salle est en feu. Le public, les bras en air, pulse au rythme de la musique et a les yeux rivés sur Elin.
On est immédiatement happé par son tempérament volcanique. En frontwoman charismatique, la chanteuse est au centre de l’attention. Son chant impressionnant nous envahi, son énergie débordante et communicative nous fascine.
Comme possédée par la musique, elle bouge de droite à gauche de la scène, danse, saute, monte sur les moniteurs en bord de scène, incline son micro et secoue fortement ses magnifiques cheveux longs et dorés qui flottent joliment autour d’elle.
Elin possède une sorte d’aura lumineuse qui nous attire et nous envoie des ondes positives. Radieuse, elle échange beaucoup avec ses fans, sourit, fait beaucoup de gestes amicaux et se lance dans des face to face avec les premiers rangs, sans oublier de s’approcher de chaque côté de la scène pour mieux engager ceux qui sont au fond de la salle.
Elle nous parle de sa joie de revenir à Paris après une si longue période d’absence pendant laquelle elle a eu un bébé (lire notre interview). Elle remerciera tout le monde pour ce concert sold out !
Après ce trio de nouveaux titres qui nous mettent KO et il est temps de reprendre le souffle avec la douce et merveilleuse balade Top Of The Sky aussi extraite du nouvel opus. On est bouleversé par la magnifique voix d’Elin. Un sublime moment d’émotion.
Raz-de-marée Rock N’Roll !
Un retour dans la passée avec la très 70’s Bliss, tornadesonore, titre extrait de leur premier EPet l’excellent Proud Woman, l’hymne qui célèbre l’empowerment des femmes, interprété par Elin avec beaucoup de passion et le poing levé.
La température continue de monter. Le concert tourne à plein régime quand le groupe fait une nouvelle incursion dans le nouvel album avec la séduisante Like a Drug, l’efficace Piggyback Ride, et l’explosif Holding Me Back.
Elin, infatigable reste l’élément central du show, alors que ses musiciens plutôt réservés l’accompagnent merveilleusement. Zack, le guitariste, reste un peu en retrait mais envoi des riffs dévastateurs. André se déchaîne derrière ses fûts et fait tourner les baguettes avec dextérité et Kristoffer enchaine des lignes de basses bien ficelées tout en gardant son air très sérieux.
La fin du set principal sera consacrée aux classiques. Parmi eux, High Class Woman qui déclenche une vague d’enthousiasme et Little Sun nous offre un moment privilégié avec encore une fois la voix magique d’Elin et un solo remarquable de Zack.
Très vite le groupe revient pour interpréter I Don’t Wanna Get Back On That Horse, une ballade poignante interprété avec émotion un superbe solo à l’appui. Bye Bye Birdy et son incroyable crescendo à 100 à l’heure va déclencher une mini émeute. Elin va traverser la foule créant un mosh pit endiablé autour d’elle. Le dernier titre, Devil Man explose avec une force et une rage absolue comme une dernière tornade avant la fin.
Cette fois-ci le concert s’achève sous les énormes ovations du public, définitivement conquis par ce Raz-de-marée Rock N’Roll !
Alors que les musiciens sortent à la rencontre de fans, je félicite Elin et je remercie André pour le drum stick attrapé à la fin du show !
C’était le concert qu’il ne fallait pas rater ! On a adoré l’album et on a adoré le concert, encore plus.
Un équilibre parfait entre les nouvelles sonorité blues rock modernes et énergiques et ceux plus vintage 70’s, des mélodies bluesy somptueuse, les riffs chatoyants et ardents et rythmiques implacable.
Un concentré d’énergie et d’émotions, BLUES PILLS délivre ce soir un concert électrisant porté magistralement par Elin Larsson, radieuse et débordante de vitalité. Avec sa présence scénique magnétique et ses interprétations d’une intensité brulante, elle a tenu en haleine le public émerveillé pendant toute la durée du set.
Energie. Emotion. Rock N’ Roll!
Une expérience a renouvelée rapidement. Je suis à deux doigts de prendre mon billet pour le concert de Toulouse (le 13.12 au Metronum) ou de Lyon (14.12 au Marche Gare) !!! Si vous êtes dans le coin, n’hésitez pas ! Allez les voir !
PS : Des lumières cosy qui virent du rouge au bleu et quelques spots lumineux créent ce soir une belle atmosphère vintage et intimiste. Très bien pour les yeux mais beaucoup moins bien pour les photos. J’avoue être un peu déçue du résultat.

Happy F*cking Birthday Tour 2024, the BLUES PILLS tour that started at the beginning of the month, arrived in Paris on October 16, 2024.
A band discovered this year, their 4th album released last August, BIRTHDAY, is in our “Best Of 2024”, now they had to pass the live test, especially since the Swedes have built a great reputation for their live performance.
It is therefore with a certain excitement that we head to La Maroquinerie (and not to the pharmacy!) on this beautiful autumn evening to test the blue pills…
When we arrive at 8pm, there is still a queue in front of the venue, which will make us miss the start of the opening act, provided tonight by the Canadian band Daniel Romano’s Outfit.
The first observation is that the room is crowded, and the atmosphere is hot. The band with a 70’s look led by Daniel Romano on guitar and vocals, accompanied by Carson McHone (vocals and tambourine), Ian Ski Romano (drums) and Tommy Commy /The Major (Bass and Vocals) delivers an energetic and captivating performance.
Dynamic guitar solos, beautiful vocal harmonies, the band distils vintage and effective blues rock sound mixed with folk, psychedelic and punk touches, somewhere between The Who and The Ramones. The audience appreciates and applauds warmly.
A few adjustments, about 20 minutes of waiting and it’s finally the turn of BLUES PILLS to take control in front of a very impatient audience. The room is full! It’s normal, the concert is SOLD OUT!
It is on The Beatles’ song – Birthday that the combo arrives on stage shortly after 9 p.m.
Zack Anderson (guitar), André Kvarnström (drums) and Kristoffer Schander (bass) closely followed by the singer Elin Larsson who wears a beautiful flowing black blouse, metallic green pants and small white boots.
Immediately, the rumbling blues rock of BIRTHDAY makes the small room tremble. Bouncy riffs, thunderous rhythm and powerful voice, the title track of the album is followed by the exhilarating, Don’t You Love It, fast and catchy, a real adrenaline rush and by the explosive Bad Choices led by a percussive groove and a hypnotic cadence.
The band has therefore chosen to start the concert with the same sequence of tracks as on the new album and the songs come to life masterfully.
The room is on fire. The audience, arms in the air, is pulsating to the rhythm of the music and has their eyes riveted on Elin.
We are immediately caught up by her volcanic apparition. As a charismatic frontwoman is at the centre of attention. Her impressive singing invades us. Her overflowing and communicative energy fascinates us.
Rock N’ Roll Tidal Wave!
As if possessed by the music, she moves from right to left of the stage, dances, jumps, climbs on the monitors at the edge of the stage, tilts her microphone and shakes her beautiful long golden hair that floats nicely around her.
Elin has that kind of luminous aura that attracts us and sends positive vibes. Radiant, she exchanges a lot with her fans, smiles, makes a lot of friendly gestures and launches into face-to-face with the front rows, without forgetting to approach each side of the stage to better engage those at the back of the room.
Elin tells us about her joy to be in Paris after such a long period of absence during which she had a baby (read our interview). She will thank everyone for this sold-out concert!
A return to the past with the very 70’s Bliss, a sound tornado, from their first EP and the excellent Proud Woman, the anthem that celebrates women’s empowerment, performed by Elin with a lot of passion and a raised fist.
The temperature continues to rise. The concert is in full swing when the band made a new foray into the new album with the seductive Like a Drug, the effective Piggyback Ride, and the explosive Holding Me Back.
Elin, tireless, remains the central element of the show, while her rather reserved musicians accompany her wonderfully. Zack, the guitarist, stays a little in the background but he sends devastating riffs. André goes wild behind his drums and spins the drumsticks with dexterity and Kristoffer strings together well-crafted bass lines while keeping his very serious look.
BLUES PILLS delivers tonight an electrifying concert carried masterfully by Elin Larsson, radiant and overflowing with vitality.
The end of the main set will be dedicated to the classics. Among them, High Class Woman which triggers a wave of enthusiasm and Little Sun that offers us a privileged moment with once again the magical voice of Elin and a remarkable solo by Zack.
Very quickly the band returns to perform I Don’t want to Get Back On That Horse, a poignant ballad performed with emotion and again a superb solo that charm us.
Bye Bye Birdy and its incredible crescendo at 100 miles an hour will trigger a mini riot. Elin will go through the crowd creating a frenzied mosh pit around her. The last title, Devil Man explodes with absolute strength and rage like a last tsunami before the end.
The concert ends under the huge ovations of the audience, definitively conquered by this Rock N’ Roll Tidal Wave!
The musicians will go out to meet fans so, I congratulate Elin, and I thank André for the drumstick caught at the end!
It was the concert you shouldn’t miss! We loved the album, and we loved the concert, even more.
A perfect balance between the new modern and energetic blues rock sound and the more classic 70’s one, sumptuous bluesy melodies, shimmering and fiery riffs and relentless rhythms.
A concentrate of energy and emotions, BLUES PILLS delivers tonight an electrifying concert mastefully carried by Elin Larsson, radiant and overflowing with vitality. With her magnetic stage presence and her performances of burning intensity, she kept the audience out of breath all along the set.
Energy. Emotion. Rock N’Roll!
An experience that must be repeated quickly. I’m thinking seriously to buy my ticket for Toulouse (13th December at Metronum) or for Lyon (14th of December at Marche Gare)!! If you are in the area, don’t hesitate! Go see them!
PS: Cozy lights that turn from red to blue and several spotlights create a beautiful vintage and intimate atmosphere tonight. Very good for the eyes but much less good for photos. I admit to being a little bit disappointed with the result.
