AYRON JONES enflamme l’Elysée Montmartre, Paris – 19 octobre 2023- Concert Review

Incontestablement, entre AYRON JONES et la France s’est tissé une véritable histoire d’amour. Ces deux dernières années, le guitariste, chanteur, auteur compositeur américain a multipliés les allers-retours entre sa ville natale, Seattle et la France et Paris est devenu pratiquement sa deuxième maison.

Le Kid de Seattle s’est produit sur des nombreuses scènes et festivals dans notre pays et on a pu l’écouter fréquemment à la radio (actuellement sa chanson Blood in the Water tourne en boucle et s’est classé numéro 1 chez Oui FM), le voir à la télé dans Taratata sur France 2 (attention ! Il a participé à l’enregistrement d’une deuxième émission qui sera diffusé bientôt) ou lire des articles élogieux à son égard dans la presse de spécialité (dont évidement sur notre site). Bref, Ayron Jones est partout.

Si on a été éblouis par son premier concert français et européen, il y a 2 ans au New Morning, on n’attendait pas moins de sa prestation le 19 octobre 2023 à l’Elysée Montmartre et on n’a pas été déçus. Récit :

On arrive tôt, pour voir THOSE DAMN CROWS, le groupe qui a la mission d’ouvrir la soirée. Les gallois sont en forme et tentent de chauffer la salle, pas encore très pleine, avec des sonorités rock alternatif grunge énergique garni de riffs tranchants et des belles mélodies. Des morceaux plus dynamiques alternent avec des jolies ballades rock.

Le très sympathique chanteur, Shane Greenhall, quand il n’est pas derrière le piano, ou avec sa guitare accrochée au cou, il court, il saute sur toute la scène, descend dans la fosse et monte même s’accrocher au balcon situé à l’arrière de la salle pour mieux voir le public et partager son enthousiasme. Il ne manque pas d’interagir avec l’audience et demander plus de participation. Il nous fera aussi savoir que leur dernière album « Inhale/Exhale » est numéro 3 en Uk et il s’étonne qu’en France, on n’en parle pas du tout.

Si au début, le public semble un peu sceptique, le groupe britannique arrive à le convaincre et l’enthousiasme monte au fur et à mesure de déroulement de leur set. Leur concert se termine avec le morceaux intitulé Rock N Roll Ain’t Dead qui fera joyeusement chanter le public ! Belle prestation !

Alors que la scène commence à être préparée pour Ayron Jones, on voit déjà le très sympathique bassiste Tyrone « Bob » Lovelace qui commence à faire des signes au public qui l’acclame. Les premiers rangs sont de plus en plus impatients et quand AYRON JONES arrive enfin l’accueil est énorme.

Le démarrage du set est un peu perturbé, car il semble que sa guitare ne soit pas prête : il lui manque la sangle et elle n’est pas accordée. Le chanteur plaisante tout en essaient de régler ce léger contretemps. On remarque aussi que son bras droit le guitariste, Matthew Jacquette, n’est pas présent. Il est remplacé par Patrick Rieflin, qui s’avère être est son technicien.

Le show démarre enfin avec l’électrique Boys From the Puget Sound mais il ya quelques problèmes de son qui semble bien embêter Ayron. Ils seront vite réglés et Emily, le deuxième morceau et son tempo groove addictif sonne déjà mieux. Les guitares s’emballent et le morceau monte en intensité. On retrouve avec grand plaisir la signature Ayron Jones.

Par contre les lumières, une catastrophe ! Je fais de mon mieux, mais on passe des lumières bleues, à des rouges foncés ou à pas de lumière du tout, à qui on rajoute la grande casquette d’Ayron qui fait l’ombre, donc il est quasi impossible de voir son visage. Pas mieux pour « Bob » Lovelace et son grand chapeau, très difficile à capter car le bassiste est carrément déchainé : véritable pile électrique, il court dans tous les sens et fait un spectacle de sauts, grimaces et poses. Le public l’adore !

“Filthy” arrive et déclenche beaucoup d’enthousiasme, le public connait les paroles par cœur. Beaucoup d’émotion et des riffs magiques dans l’interprétation de Otherside.

Moment très fort avec Take Your Time, repris en chœur par les fans et accompagné par une marée des bras en l’air. Toute la salle résonne ! C’est Magnifique !

La rage et le riff tueur de My America et les punchy The Title et Strawman montent encore plus la température. L’américain enchaine les solos puissants et les prouesses vocales.

La sublime ballade, My Love Remains, apporte de la douceur alors qu’on s’approche de la fin.

AYRON s’adresse souvent au public pour demander comment ça va et pour exprimer sa joie d’être de nouveau à Paris « my home away from home ». Il s’exerce même à quelques mots en français.

L’émouvante Blood in the Water et l’explosif Take me away vont clôturer merveilleusement le show. Ayron s’empare d’une baguette pour jouer à sa guitare comme sur un violon.

Quant au rappel, si sur la playlist scotchée au pied du micro, on pouvait lire Black Hole Sun, finalement on aura le droit d’écouter Purple Rain, la cover de Prince et son solo absolument éblouissant. L’audience émerveillée applaudi avec ferveur.

Ayron descendra à la barrière pour signer des autographes, faire de selfies et serrer des mains. On le retrouvera ensuite au stand de merchandising pour encore plus de photos et des échanges avec ses fans !

Avec une set list impeccable basé sur son nouvel album Chronicles Of The Kid, ce soir à l’Elysée Montmartre , le talentueux Ayron Jones épaulé par ses excellents musiciens, nous a encore une fois séduit. On a retrouvé avec grand plaisir le rock grunge addictif agrémenté de magnifiques touches soul et blues qu’on aime tant.

Même si le concert n’était pas complet, la salle était bien remplie et le public enthousiaste a assisté à une soirée magique et inoubliable.

Sans aucun doute Ayron Jones est devenu un artiste incontournable, sa popularité en France continue de monter en flèche et sa base de fans est grandissante.

Il sera de retour en France en février 2024 et nous l’attendons avec impatience. S’il passe à côté de chez vous n’hésitez pas ! Allez le voir !

Definitely, between AYRON JONES and France has woven a real love story. In the last 2 years, the American guitarist, singer, songwriter has multiplied the trips back and forth between his hometown, Seattle and France, Paris has practically become his second home.

The Seattle Kid has performed on many stages and festivals in our country and we have been able to listen to him in many radio shows (currently his song Blood in the Water runs in a loop and ranked number 1 on Oui FM), see him on TV in Taratata Show on France 2 (he has participated in the recording of a second show that will be broadcast soon) or read glowing articles the musical press (including of course on our website). In short, Ayron Jones is everywhere.

If we were dazzled by his first ever French and European concert, 2 years ago at the New Morning, Paris, we expected no less from his performance on October 19, 2023 at the Elysée Montmartre and we were not disappointed. Here is the story:

We arrive early at the venue, to see THOSE DAMN CROWS, the band whose mission is to open the evening. The Welsh are in good shape and try to warm up the room, not yet full, with an energetic grunge alternative rock sounds garnished with sharp riffs and beautiful melodies. More dynamic songs alternate with pretty rock ballads.

The very nice singer Shane Greenhall when he’s not behind the piano, or with his guitar hanging around his neck, he runs, he jumps all over the stage, goes down into the pit and even goes up to hang on to the balcony at the back of the room to get a better look at the audience and share their enthusiasm.

He does not fail to interact with the audience and ask for more participation. He will also let us know that their latest album “Inhale/Exhale” is number 3 in UK and he is surprised that in France, there is nothing at all. If at first, the audience seemed a little sceptical, the British band managed to convince them and the enthusiasm grew as their set progressed. Their concert ends with the song called Rock N Roll Ain’t Dead which will have the audience singing happily! Great performance!

As the stage begins to be set for Ayron Jones, we can already see the very fun bassist Tyrone “Bob” Lovelace starting to wave to the audience who cheer him. The front rows are getting more and more impatient and when AYRON JONES arrives finally on stage the ovations are huge.

The start of the set is a bit disturbed, because it seems that his guitar is not ready: he is missing the strap and it is not in tune. The singer jokes while trying to sort out this slight hiccup. We also notice that his right-hand man, the guitarist, Matthew Jacquette, is not present. He was replaced by Patrick Rieflin, who turned out to be his technician.

The show finally kicks off with the electric Boys From the Puget Sound but there are some sound problems that seem to annoy Ayron. They will be quickly fixed and Emily, the second track with its addictive groove tempo already sounds better. The guitars go into overdrive and the song picks up in intensity. It is with great pleasure that we find the Ayron Jones signature.

On the other hand, the lights are a total disaster! I do my best but we go between blue lights, dark reds or no light at all, to which we add Ayron’s big cap which makes the shadow, so it’s almost impossible to see his face. No better for “Bob” Lovelace and his big hat, also very difficult to capture because the bass player is downright unleashed: a real electric battery, he runs in all directions and makes a show of jumps, grimaces, poses. The audience loves!

“Filthy” arrives and triggers a lot of enthusiasm, fans knows the lyrics by heart. A lot of emotion and magical riffs in the interpretation of Otherside. A very strong moment with Take Your Time and a big crowd singalong accompanied by a tide of arms in the air. The whole room resonates! It’s wonderful! The rage and killer riff of My America and the punchy The Title and Strawman turn up the heat even more. The American performs powerful solos as well as vocal prowess. The sublime ballad, My Love Remains brings sweetness as we approach the end.

AYRON often addresses the public to ask if they are Ok and they enjoy the show and also to express his joy at being back in Paris “my home away from home”. He even practises a few words in French.

The moving Blood in the Water and the explosive Take Me Away will wonderfully close the show. Ayron grabs a stick to play his guitar as if he were playing a violin.

As for the encore, if on the playlist taped to the microphone stand, we could read Black Hole Sun finally we will have the right to listen to Purple Rain, Prince’s cover and its absolutely dazzling solo. The audience, amazed and applauded fervently.

Ayron will go down to the barrier to sign autographs, take selfies and shake hands. We will then find him at the merchandising booth for even more photos and exchanges with his fans!

With a great set list based on his new album Chronicles Of The Kid, tonight in Paris à l’Elysée Montmartre , the talented Ayron Jones, supported by his excellent musicians, seduced us one more time. We were very happy to find his addictive grunge rock embellished with magnificent soul and blues touches that we appreciate so much.

Although the concert was not sold out, the venue was well filled and the enthusiastic audience witnessed an unforgettable magical evening. Without any doubt, Ayron Jones has become an essential artist, his popularity in France continues to skyrocket and his fan base is growing constantly.

He will be back in France in 2024 and we are looking forward to see him again. If it happens to come next to you, don’t hesitate! Check it out!
