Les belles couleurs de la Méditerranée, les couchers du soleil, le ciel étoilé, les déjeuners en terrasse, la végétation luxuriante, l’odeur du jasmin… cet été on profite au maximum de longues vacances à la mer.

Notre but ? S’éloigner de tout objet connecté et vraiment décrocher de notre vie sursollicité : travail, emails, réseaux sociaux ou des notifications qui arrivent en continu. Se reconnecter avec la nature, lire un bon livre (papier) et comme dirait le célèbre détective Hercule Poirot, reposer ses petites cellules grises. A quoi je rajouterais bien : écouter de la bonne musique.

CONQUER DIVIDE, SOEN, GRETA VAN FLEET, HALF MOON RUN, PHIL MANCA, ROYAL THUNDER, BARONESS, FIXATION, MAMMOTH WVH, ROGER WATERS, SLEEP TOKEN, NICK DRAKE TRIBUTE voilà quelques-unes de mes écoutes estivales que j’aimerais partager avec vous. Quelques disques déjà sortis ou des albums à paraitre et dont on va surement reparler à la rentrée, des nouveaux artistes ou des concerts à rajouter dans notre agenda. A vos écoutes !

GRETA VAN FLEET –The Falling Sky

Les américains de GRETA VAN FLEET revient avec un album stellaire, Starcatcher, produit par Dave Cobb (Slash, Rival Sons, Marcus King band…) sortie le 21.07.2023.

On savoure avec grand plaisir les sonorités de rock classiques 70s (avec toujours la belle touche Led ZEP) agrémentés avec habilité et beaucoup de talent de l’empreinte moderne du quatuor.

Une très belle collection de chansons réunis façon concept album, un enchainement des mélodies atmosphériques, des riffs ensorcelants, des arrangements classiques et bien sûr des rythmiques pure Rock N’Roll couronnés par la voix enchanteresse de Josh Kiszka. Un album cosmique et lumineux à écouter en boucle.

ROYAL THUNDER – Rebuilding The Mountain

On avait fait connaissance avec Royal Thunder, en 2017 via leur excellent album Wick. Les revoila avec un nouvel album, Rebuilding The Mountain, dans lequel on retrouve avec grand plaisirla voix sublime et hantée de Mlny Parsonz qui nous avait tout de suite ensorcelé.

Dès la première écoute, ce nouvel opus dégage beaucoup d’émotion, justement grâce à cette voix puissante et fabuleuse mais aussi aux riffs magnifiques tantôt énergiques tantôt doux et subtiles tissés avec maestria dans des rythmiques implacables. On en reparlera.

CONQUER DIVIDE – SLOW BURN

Originaires des États-Unis, du Royaume-Uni et du Canada les 5 musiciennes qui composent CONQUER DIVIDE ont sorti leur premier album en 2015, un album éponyme qui a généré plus de 30 millions de streams. Leur chanson At War, avait été nominée pour les Kerrang ! Awards. En 2020, c’est leur single Chemicals que Alternative Press qualifiait de “candidat au meilleur titre crossover hard rock/metalcore de l’année”.

Un son puissant, des paroles intenses et personnelles, un metal moderne et des mélodies irrésistibles, on fera plus ample connaissance à l’occasion de la sortie de leur nouvel album SLOW BURN, prévue le 8 septembre. Découvrez le premier extrait welcome2paradise.

SOEN –Memorial

Après un cinquième album, Imperial, véritable chef-d’œuvre que j’ai adoré, le quintette suédois SOEN revient avec un nouvel album Memorial, sortie le 1er septembre 2023 sur le label Silver Lining Music.

A travers un son puissant et grandiose, des riffs lourds et des belles mélodies entêtantes si caractéristiques à l’univers poétique du groupe suédois, ce 6ème opus studio aborde avec intelligence les maux de la société actuelle. On en reparlera.

HALF MOON RUN – Everyone’s moving out East

Des mélodies organiques, des harmonies vocales enveloppantes, des jolis riffs et des textes poétique, les onze titres qui composent le nouvel opus du groupe HALF MOON RUN est une belle découverte.

Sortie le 2 juin, Salt, puisse dans les racines du groupe maisse tourne également vers l’avenir avec des chansons écrites pendant la pandémie qui reflètent les angoisses omniprésentes du moment et le besoin profond et universel d’espoir.

Mené par le timbre singulier de Devon Portielje, le trio d’indie-folk-rock canadien sera de passage à Paris le 22 septembre au Bataclan. Notez dans vos agendas !

The Songs of NICK DRAKE – The Endless Coloured Way

L’album hommage au songwriter mélancolique NICK DRAKE est disponible depuis le 7 juillet 2023 chez Chrysalis Records.

Voilà une collection de vingt-trois des chansons les plus aimées de Nick Drake, interprétées et réimaginées avec amour par des artistes les plus talentueux du spectre musical actuel.

Un album hommage à la folk sombre et orchestrale de NICK DRAKE, disparu en 1974. Véritable héros romantique et tourmenté, le songwriter anglais a insufflé quelque chose de nouveau dans le folk. Aujourd’hui, une nouvelle génération d’artistes lui rend hommage avec 23 reprises étonnantes, inventives, mais tout autant cohérentes. Se succèdent ainsi sur cet opus : Fontaines DC, Emeli Sandé, Aurora, Ben Harper, Bombay Bicycle Club…

Une très bonne occasion de découvrir ou redécouvrir cet artiste disparu prématurément et qui continue à répandre son influence sur les générations suivantes d’artistes de la même manière que Bob Dylan, Bob Marley ou Joni Mitchell

PHIL MANCA  – NightStalker

Après la sortie de 2 albums SIGNS & DANCING SPIRITS qui mêlent heavy blues-rock et hard-rock, PHIL MANCA (guitariste de ERA-Ameno) est de retour en 2023 avec un nouvel album heavy metal : LAYERS OF PAIN déjà disponible depuis juin.

Des riffs puissants, des ballades magnifiques, des rhythmiques élaborés et des textes percutants, avec l’aide de ses complices Joselin « JJ » Jobard – lead vocals et Eric Lafont – Drums,le guitar Hero – auteur compositeur français nous offre un album remarquable.

Le single NightStalker évoque le tueur en série Richard RAMIREZ alias “NightStalker” qui sévissait à Los Angeles durant les années 80. Interview à la rentrée.

MAMMOTH WVH – MAMMOTH II

Il ya quelques mois on vous a parlé de Mammoth WVH, le groupe du talentueux Wolfgang Van Halen (le fils d’Eddie Van Halen).

Depuis il nous a fait forte impression au Stade de France en ouverture de Metallica et surtout avec son deuxième album “MAMMOTH II” qui vient de sortir. 10 morceaux enflammés, directs et extrêmement efficaces, enregistrés sous la direction de Michael “Elvis” Baskette [Alter Bridge, Slash] au fameux 5150 Studio.

Des riffs à couper le souffle, des solos étourdissantes, des mélodies accrocheuses, des rhythmiques à cadence infernale, le chanteur multi-instrumentiste auteur compositeur prouves largement son indéniable talent et sa technique millimétrée irréprochable. Un album hard & heavy rock puissant et délicieux d’une remarquable qualité. Je vous le conseille vivement !

Le très fun video clip de I’m Alright a été réalisée par Gordy De St. Jeor avec l’actrice Valerie Bertinelli, la mère de Wolfgang, qui fait une apparition dans le clip.

BARONESS –LAST WORD

Trois après son dernier album en date, Baroness, l’un des groupes le plus envoûtants de l’histoire du hard rock moderne, sortira un nouvel album intitulé “STONE” le 15 septembre 2023 sur Abraxan Hymns, son propre label, ouvrant ainsi un nouveau chapitre sur sa déjà riche carrière. Une autre belle découverte sur ma liste.

Petit historique pour ceux qui ne les connaissent pas : Fondé en 2003 à Savannah, Baroness se compose aujourd’hui de John Baizley (chant/guitare), Gina Gleason (guitare), Nick Jost (basse) et Sebastian Thomson (batterie). Désormais basé entre Philadelphie et à Brooklyn, le groupe compte cinq albums à son actif : “Gold & Grey” (2019), “Purple” (2015), “Yellow & Green” (2012), “Blue Record” (2009) et “Red Album” (2007). 

Le quatuor a reçu sa première nomination aux GRAMMY® en 2017 pour la chanson “Shock Me”. Le magnifique artwork de “STONE” est une peinture originale signée John Baizley.

FIXATION – Flat Earth

Le premier album de FIXATION, intitulé More Subtle Than Death” sortira le 8 septembre 2023. Avec leur son rock moderne / metalcore mélodique qui combine librement des éléments électro avec des riffs de guitares massifs la formation norvégienne va surement séduire les fans Bring Me The Horizon, Thrice ou Thirty Seconds To Mars.

Découvrez un nouvel extrait : Flat Earth. Intense et massif ce titre captivant est doté d’un refrain incroyablement accrocheur et des riffs de guitare heavy conjugués à des éléments électroniques.

Après avoir assuré la 1ère partie de la tournée française de Devin Townsend, les musiciens, Jonas W Hansen (chant), Martin Gravdal (basse), Martin S Selen (guitare), Tobias Østerdal (guitare) et Ola Dønnem (batterie) seront de retour à Paris, à La Boule Noire, en special guest de Annisokay le 10 octobre prochain. SLEEP TOKEN – Vore

Des ambiances mystérieuses, des sonorités extrêmement variées, une créativité sans frontières, le 3ème album de Sleep Token, Take Me back To Eden nous propose, comme le titre peut le suggérer, une incursion émouvante et hypnotique dans le paradis musical de ces artistes « anonymes » qui continuent d’explorer de différents horizons musicaux.

Cette troisième partie d’une trilogie- probablement la plus heavy – lancée en 2019 avec l’album Sundowning– s’étend sur 12 morceaux et clôt magistralement cette véritable saga.

Après avoir déchaîné les passions les passions sur les plateformes de digitales en atteignant des scores de streaming hallucinants pour un groupe de rock, maintenant c’est sur scène que Sleep Token crée la sensation !

Ils seront à l’affiche du Cabaret Vert le samedi 19 août.

ROGER WATERS – Money

Cette année, THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, le mythique albumde Pink Floyd, fete son 50eme anniversaire.

A cette occasionROGER WATERS annonce une version “REDUX” de “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” qui sortira en CD, vinyle & digital, le 6 octobre 2023 sur SGB Music Cooking Vinyl, une réinterprétation épique et ambitieuse de l’un des albums les plus célèbres et les plus emblématique de l’histoire de la musique.

Découvrez le premier single extrait de l’album, “Money”, interprété par Waters et accompagné d’une lyric-vidéo.

Enregistré par Pink Floyd alors que Waters n’avait que 29 ans, “The Dark Side of the Moon” est une méditation multidimensionnelle extraordinaire, sur l’expérience humaine, le temps qui passe, la chute vers les profondeurs abyssales de la folie.

En plus des 10 titres originaux revisités de “The Dark Side of the Moon” la 4ème face du double vinyle de “The Dark Side of the Moon Redux” comprend “en bonus” une composition originale de 13 minutes directement inspirée par ce réenregistrement.

Pour Roger Waters : “A certains égards, la version originale de The Dark Side of the Moon ressemble à la complainte d’un vieillard sur la condition humaine. Dave, Rick, Nick et moi étions si jeunes lorsque nous l’avons réalisée, mais quand vous regardez le monde qui nous entoure aujourd’hui, il est clair que le message n’est plus le même. C’est pourquoi j’ai commencé à réfléchir à ce que la sagesse d’un octogénaire pourrait apporter à une version remaniée » pour ensuite rajouter “Je suis immensément fier de ce que nous avons créé, une œuvre qui peut trôner fièrement à côté de l’originale, l’accompagner main dans la main, à travers un demi-siècle d’existence”.

English Version

The beautiful colors of the Mediterranean, the sunsets, the starry sky, the lunches on the terrace, the lush vegetation, the jasmine flowers perfume… This summer we enjoy a long holiday by the sea.  Our goal? Move away from any connected object and really get away from our overworked life: work, social networks or notifications that arrive from everywhere. Reconnect with nature, read a good book (paper) and as the famous detective Hercule Poirot would say, rest “the little grey cells”. And I will add of course, listen to some good music.

GRETA VAN FLEET –The Falling Sky

The Americans of GRETA VAN FLEET came back with a stellar album, Starcatcher, produced by Dave Cobb (Slash, Rival Sons, Marcus King band…) and released on 21.07.2023.

We savour with great pleasure the sounds of 70s classic rock (always with the beautiful touch of Led ZEP) embellished with skill and a lot of talent of the modern imprint of the quartet.

A very beautiful collection of songs gathered like a concept album, a sequence of atmospheric melodies, bewitching riffs, classical arrangements and of course pure Rock N’Roll rhythms crowned by the enchanting voice of Josh Kiszka. A cosmic and luminous album to listen to on repeat.

ROYAL THUNDER – Rebuilding The Mountain

We met Royal Thunder in 2017 through their excellent album Wick. Here they are again with a new album, Rebuilding The Mountain, in which we find with great pleasure the sublime and haunted voice of Mlny Parsonz.

From the first listen, this new opus exudes a lot of emotion, precisely thanks to this powerful and fabulous voice but also to the magnificent riffs sometimes energetic sometimes soft and subtle woven with mastery in relentless rhythms. We’ll talk about it again soon.

CONQUER DIVIDE – SLOW BURN

Originally from the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, the 5 musicians who make up CONQUER DIVIDE released their first album in 2015, a self-titled album that generated more than 30 million streams.

Their song At War, had been nominated for the Kerrang! Awards. In 2020, it was their single Chemicals that Alternative Press called “a candidate for the best hard rock/metalcore crossover track of the year”.

A powerful sound, intense and personal lyrics, modern metal and irresistible melodies, we will get to know each other better on the occasion of the release of their new album SLOW BURN, due on September 8th.

SOEN – Memorial

After a fifth album, Imperial, a true masterpiece that I loved, the Swedish quintet SOEN returns with a new album Memorial, due on September 1, 2023 on the Silver Lining Music label. 

Through a powerful and grandiose sound, heavy riffs and beautiful catchy melodies so characteristic of the poetic universe of the Swedish group, this 6th studio album intelligently talks about the ills of today’s society. We’ll talk about it again.

HALF MOON RUN – Everyone’s moving out East

Organic melodies, enveloping vocal harmonies, beautiful riffs and poetic texts, the eleven titles that make up the new opus of the group HALF MOON RUN is a beautiful discovery. 

Released on June 2, Salt, can in the roots of the band but also looks to the future with songs written during the pandemic that reflect the omnipresent anxieties of the moment and the deep and universal need for hope.

Led by the singular vocal timbre of Devon Portielje, the Canadian indie-folk-rock trio will be in Paris on September 22 at the Bataclan. Mark your calendars!

The Songs of NICK DRAKE – The Endless Coloured Way

The tribute album to melancholic songwriter NICK DRAKE is available since July 7, 2023 on Chrysalis Records. This is a collection of twenty-three of Nick Drake’s most beloved songs, lovingly performed and reimagined by the most talented artists in today’s musical spectrum.

PHIL MANCA – NightStalker

After the release of 2 albums SIGNS & DANCING SPIRITS that mix heavy blues-rock and hard-rock, PHIL MANCA (guitarist of ERA-Ameno) is back in 2023 with a new heavy metal album: LAYERS OF PAIN already available since June.

MAMMOTH WVH – MAMMOTH II

A few months ago, we talked about Mammoth WVH, the band of the talented Wolfgang Van Halen (the son of Eddie Van Halen). Since then, he has made a strong impression on us at the Stade de France opening for Metallica and especially with his second album “MAMMOTH II” which has just been released.

10 fiery, direct and extremely effective tracks, recorded under the direction of Michael “Elvis” Baskette [Alter Bridge, Slash] at the famous 5150 Studio.  Breathtaking riffs, stunning solos, catchy melodies, infernal cadence rhythmics, the singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist largely proves his undeniable talent and his impeccable millimetre technique.

A powerful and delicious hard & heavy rock album of remarkable quality. I highly recommend it!  The fun music video for I’m Alright was directed by Gordy De St. Jeor with actress Valerie Bertinelli, Wolfgang’s mother, who makes an appearance in the video.

BARONESS –LAST WORD

Three years after their latest album, Baroness, one of the most mesmerizing bands in the history of modern hard rock, will release a new album titled “STONE” on September 15, 2023 on Abraxan Hymns, its own label, opening a new chapter on their already rich career. SLEEP TOKEN – Vore

Mysterious atmospheres, extremely varied sounds, creativity without borders, the 3rd album of Sleep Token, Take Me back To Eden offers us, as the title may suggest, a moving and hypnotic incursion into the musical paradise of these “anonymous” artists who continue to explore different musical horizons.

This third part of a trilogy – probably the heaviest one – launched in 2019 with the album Sundowning – extends over 12 tracks and masterfully closes this real saga. After unleashing passions on digital platforms by reaching incredible streaming scores for a rock band, now it’s on stage that Sleep Token creates the sensation! They will be on line up of the Festival Cabaret Vert on Saturday, August 19.

This year the legendary Pink Floyd’s albumTHE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON celebrates its 50^th anniversary.
